  • using remote MS Access database which connects to remote SQL server

    Hi, We have a Microsoft Access database + application (on Server A) which connects to a remote SQL server (Server B) using System DSN ODBC connection (on Server A) to the SQL database server. The users are open this Access database remotely as it is on a shared location on the server A. They still have to create a local ODBC connection on their computers to connect to Server B. Is there anyway that they can access the Access database and not have to create a local ODBC connection? thanks in advance

  • Turn off Snap and Glue in MS Visio 2007 permanently

    Every time I create new drawing document in Microsoft Visio 2007, drawing options "Snap" and "Glue" are turned on by default. I find both of them particularly annoying, so every time I create a new drawing I open "main menu - Tools - Snap & Glue" and turn these options off for that particular document. Is there an option or setting to turn "Snap" and "Glue" off permanently for all new Microsoft Visio 2007 drawing documents? Update: Maybe there's some way to bithack executable file (EXE or DLL) in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12?

    I have installed available all components of "MS_SQL_05" as give named instance on Win-7. I had a default instance running of MSSQL08. While Installing MSSQL05 Instance I choose to use windows authentication. But now I got a problem and my database engine is not running, actually no components are working except I am just able to login to Integration service. I think there is some Username issue, coz It using UsrNm :'Anas-PC\Anas' which seems incorrect. But what i want to achieve here is count of arg consumers Total of ARG_TOTALAMT total of that subquery PAID difference between PAID & Total amount.   • MS SQL Server and "No Hard Drive Space Left"

    Got a server running a document delivery system on it. The machine is running extremely poorly (Windows XP). I've checked the regular things, like doing a memtest (turned out fine) and trying to degraf the HDD (not needed). The only thing weird about this machine is that its running MSSQL server. And Symantec Anitvirus. (ugh) Sometimes the machine reports "No hard drive space left". I immediately look at the one hard drive at the machine and it still has 20 gigs left. Each and every time. Could MSSQL server cause this? Could this be tied to the machine's terrible performance? Thanks!

    I am planning a series of tests that take a couple of hours each. However, you can not split a test so I do not want the next test to begin if there is not enough time within the specified working hours of the day to complete it. Also, I would like to begin each day with a set-up period before the actual testing can begin. Is there a way to automatically begin each day with a setup period and have tasks that can not complete before the end of the specified work day defer starting until the next day?

  • ms sql 2005 server role problem

    On one of our sql 2005 servers we are no longer able to give any users server roles (ex. sysadmin). It appears to be successful both through the UI and through code. But when we check in the db and in the UI the role is unchecked and not shown for the user in the master db. Permissions don't seem to be the issue as we are testing this as system administrator levels of access. There are also no errors in the log. Any ideas? Thanks, Brandon

However, does anyone have details/a link for a version of this that offers similar functionality but is in an excel spreadsheet.   • Program shortcuts disappearing in Windows Mobile 2003, any way to get them back?

    I have a WM2003 device with some programs installed on it and a full backup created and saved to a SD card. If the device runs out of charge for some time (or the battery removed) everything is reseted back to defaults, so the custom programs and configs are gone. When this happens I used to restore the full backup to put everything back to normal again. But I've recently installed TomTom Navigator 7 and for some reason, its shortcut in the "Programs" section is not saved when creating a full backup (with the eBackup app provided) and the installation doesn't create a shortcut in the main screen (as version 6 used to do). Is there any way to make this shortcut persistent? Is there any way to create custom shortcuts in the programs section or in the main screen (preferably)?   • Scripting a database copy from MS Sql 2005 to 2008 without detach/backup/RDP

    My goal is to move a single SQL 2005 database to a seperate 2008 server. The issue is my level of access to both servers. On each I can only access the database and nothing else. I cant create a backup file or detach the database because I don't have access to the file system or to create a proxy. I've tried using the generate script function of sql 2005 management studio express to restore the schema but receive command not supported errors when attempting to execute the sql on the new database. Similarly I tried using EMS SQL Manager 2005 Lite to script a backup of the schema and data but ran into similar problems. How do I go about acomplishing this? I can't seem to find any solutions outside of using the detach and backup functions.

    When opening a temporary file, Powerpoint 2010 usually creates a temporary, hidden file called ~$filename.pptx in the same directory. This is undesirable, since it can cause unnecessary activity with e.g. Dropbox. Furthermore, the "Documents" folder should not be used for temporary files -- we have the %TEMP% folder for that. So, is it possible to have Powerpoint create its temporary files in %TEMP% instead?   • Can't connect to MS SQL Server database using SSMS

    I have a database on line with Godaddy (who uses SQL Server 2005). They provide basic management tools, but tell you that for more advanced tools you can connect directly using SSMS. I followed their instructions to ensure my online database will accept remote connections, and can apparently log in using SSMS with success (after giving my hostname and access data). However: Now from in SSMS, when attempting to expand the "Databases" folder tree, I get the following error: Failed to retrieve data for this request. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Sdk.Sfc) An exception occurred while executing a Transact-SQL statement or batch. (Microsoft.SqlServer.ConnectionInfo) The server principal "cmitchell" is not able to access the database "3pointdb" under the current security context. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 916) The irony is that 3pointdb isn't my database. It is just another in a long list of databases that show up when I access my Godaddy backend. From SSMS, I selected the default database to be the name of my database, which it did locate on the list when I browsed. Still same error message. It is trying to connect to a database that isn't mine! :( Godaddy support, after a bit of testing, said the problem isn't on their end. it's on mine. – Charles

    We are looking for a way to provide members of three loosely connected organizations with access to authenticated resources such as file shares, printers, and lab computers. I've seen federation facilities for web resources; is ther something similar for domain logins? Our Active directory domains are not connected so we would have to use email addresses for the username to insure uniqueness. Is there any openid like mechanism that works for AD logins?

    I have a test machine. Server 2008 with Hyper V MSSQL 2008 Enterprise Lets call it MACHINE A on the VM it is as well Server 2008 with another MSSQL 2008 Ent Call it VM B I setup a DB on MACHINE A then backed it up and restored following the prepare database for mirroring instructions on MSDN onto VM B. I used to be able to connect to the VM B Instance from the main test server (MACHINE A) but now I cannot for some reason. It cannot seem to find the instance at all even when I browse network databases. I can ping the VM from any computer on the network and access its shares so I know it is discoverable. Just the end of a long day maybe I am missing something here.

    Hi, I have migrated some DTS packages to SSIS 2005 using "Migration" wizard. When I tried to run it, it fails saying you need a higher version of SSIS even though the destination SSIS server is on 9.0.4211 level. then I digged in the package using business intelligence studio and saw that one of the package subtasks is "Transform data task" (the dts version) and the package fails to run that. The storage location for this dts task is set to "Embedded in Task". I didn't touch it. why didn't it convert this task to an SSIS data flow task? any help please? Thansk in advance

  • Assigning resources to MS Project 2007

    Hi, I'm planning a redesign of a site in Project 2007. I have three developers to hand, all with the same skills. There are about 80 templates to be rendered as part of the redesign, and each template has been added as a project task. Each of these tasks can be done by any of the 3 devs, and each will take a day (with a few exceptions). There is no order in which the tasks must be completed, so there are no predecessor rules. I'd like to be able to assign tasks to a 'Developer' resource group, and for Project to see that three tasks can be done at once (as the group has three resources members) and queue the tasks as such. Googling leads me to Team Assignment, but that appears to be part of Project Server. Surely I can do this in standalone Project? Thanks, Adam

  • Why is my mail stuck in the queue with the status "retry" in Exchange 2003?

    I have been having a problem recently where some of our mail is not getting to clients. I looked into the Message queue on my SBS2k3 server and noticed that several recipients are showing up in the queue with a state of "Retry". When I highlight the recipient, the additional queue information says "An SMTP protocol error occured". How can I find out more specifically what error occured, and how could I then go about correcting it? Thanks, Mike

The central firewall at this office allows any any outbound, tcp and udp. The DNS server has no local firewall nor antivirus. My windows client, located in the same subnet as the DNS server can do the lookup by asking the nameservers that are in control of www.iis.se.
