They have been ignored, or old ones used instead. Initially I thought that for whatever reason the repositories were down, so I switched from the Canada server to the main server. I still got the same error. I also tried installing some things from the ubuntu software center. Funny thing is, that worked fine and I was able to successfully download and install software from the software center, so it seems that only update manager can't access the repositories. I have searched for and found similar cases (relating to ubuntu 12.10), but most of those cases involved ppa's, and I don't use any ppa's. Help would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • HP Envy 15 3040nr sound issues

    I have successfully set up my Envy 15" for Ubuntu 12.04 except for the sound, anyone have any ideas about how to get it working? I had to blacklist snd-usb-audio to my alsa to stop pulseaudio from freezing on login and logout, but now no sound plays.     Now, it's time to blink the other GPIO ports with the other LEDs connected to them. This is easy using Java Embedded, since the Java programming language is powerful and flexible. Embedded developers are not used to this, since the C programming language is more popular but less easy to develop in. We just need to use a dynamic Java String array to map to the pinouts of the GPIO port names from the previous diagram posted.   • Wordpress .htaccess preventing subfolder access

    This is sort of a goofy setup, but it's not in my power to reconfigure it at this time. I'm running in a shared hosting environment. The domain is example.com. This is an add-on domain on the host side with example.com being redirected to the www/example.com sub-directory. That directory houses a standard Wordpress site which acts as the main site when you visit example.com. The .htaccess file within that directory is: # BEGIN WordPress <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> RewriteEngine On RewriteBase / RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule . /index.php [L] </IfModule> # END WordPress <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> RewriteEngine On RewriteRule ^wp-admin/profile\.php$ /ssm/welcome [R] </IfModule> I have a subdirectory, at the root level with the /example.com subdirectory that houses a cake php application. That subdirectory is /tracker. My problem is that when I attempt to browse to example.com/tracker, I get a 404 from Wordpress because perma links are on. What I think I need is a rewrite rule in the Wordpress .htaccess file that short circuits the existing rewrite rules and permits example.com/tracker to work independently of the Wordpress install. Or a rewrite rule at the root level that short circuits the redirect to the /example.com directory in the first place. Not sure how well I explained that so here's a summary. The www/ directory structure: example.com/ tracker/ Add on domain of www.example.com redirecting to the /example.com directory with Wordpress and a tracker/ directory running CakePHP which I would like to access via www.example.com/tracker.     I don't know what has got into my computer today. I was developing just fine in VS 2008 and testing my ASP.NET web site on my development server. Then suddenly, out of the blue, I can't run my web site any more! As soon as I hit F5, the message appears: Unable to launch the ASP.NET Development server because port '1900' is in use. And it doesn't matter what port I change to, it's always in use! AAARRRGGGHH!!! I have tried: Changing the port number Restarting Visual Studio Rebooting my machine Installing IIS Clue: My IIS refuses to start. But I didn't have IIS installed when I was happily working earlier, so that is probably not the issue; it might just be highlighting something else... Thanks in advance... Update: after rebooting, IIS does start, but the problem here persists.

    If I understand right, applications sometimes use HTTP to send messages, since using other ports is liable to cause firewall problems. But how does that work without conflicting with other applications such as web-browsers? In fact how do multiple browsers running at once not conflict? Do they all monitor the port and get notified... can you share a port in this way? I have a feeling this is a dumb question, but not something I ever thought of before, and in other cases I've seen problems when 2 apps are configured to use the same port.

    So, you've followed the previous steps to install Java Embedded on your Raspberry Pi ?, you went to Fry's and picked up some jumper wires, LEDs, and resistors ?, you hooked up the wires, LED, and resistor the the correct pins ?, and now you want to start programming in Java on your RPi? Yes? ???????! OK, then... Here we go. You can use the following source code to blink your first LED on your RPi using Java. In the code you can see that I'm not using any complicated gpio libraries like wiringpi or pi4j, and I'm not doing any low-level pin manipulation like you can in C. And, I'm not using python (hell no!). This is Java programming, so we keep it simple (and more readable) than those other programming languages. See: Write Java code to do this In the Java code, I'm opening up the RPi Debian Wheezy well-defined file handles to control the GPIO ports. First I'm resetting everything using the unexport/export file handles. (On the RPi, if you open the well-defined file handles and write certain ASCII text to them, you can drive your GPIO to perform certain operations. See this GPIO reference).   • The right way of using index.html

    I have quite a lot of issues I'd like to hear your opinion on, so I hope I'll manage to explain it well enough. I should also note that I'm beginner equipped only with the knowledge of HTML and CSS so although I'm almost sure that there is a simple solution using powerful PHP, it won't help me. Let's say that I have my personal blog on the address example.com/blog.html and there are links to several sub-blogs example.com/blog/math.html, example.com/blog/coding.html etc. So my root folder contains blog.html and blog folder, the blog folder itself contains files math.html and coding.html. First of all, I learned (from Google Webmasters Tools) that for SEO and aesthetical purposes it's good to unify example.com.com and example.com/index.html by adding _rel="canonical"_ attribute into the source of the index.html. Using a couple of other tricks (like linking to ../ and ./) I got rid of the ugly index.html appearing in my web addresses. And now I wonder if this trick can be used not only for the root folder but for any folder? I mean, I would move my blog.html into the blog folder, rename it into the index.html and add rel="canonical" to unify example.com/blog/index.html with example.com/blog/. This trick would change the address of my blog from example.com/blog.html into example.com/blog/. Not finished! I'm also experiencing problems with the google robot indexing my folders. So when I type site:example.com/ into the google search, the link to my folder example.com/blog/ with raw files, icons etc. appears among the other results. I guess there are also other ways how to fix it, but IMHO the change mentioned above would do the trick too - the index.html in the blog folder would preserve the user from viewing the actual raw content of that folder, there would appear only the right link example.com/blog/ in the google search and (I hope that) _rel="canonical"_ would make the second, unwanted link example.com/blog/index.html not to appear in the search results. So my questions are: Is it a good practice to have the index.html file in every subfolder or is it intended to be only in the root folder? Are there any disadvantages or problems that may occur when using the second, "index in every folder" method? Which one of the two ways of structuring the website described above would you prefer?

I have a server which resolves to the domain example.com . This is running Apache2 and Tomcat 6. The requirement is to direct requests to example.com to apache2 and app.example.com to Tomcat. I know I have to do a VirtualHost proxy pass for this to work.     So, I finally gave up on all my previous the Microsoft Mobile/Phone OS devices and made my switch to Android this year. I am using my Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000 with CyanogenMod 9.1.0 (http://get.cm/get/jenkins/7086/cm-9.1.0-n7000.zip) and ClockworkMod 6.0.1.2 (http://download2.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-6.0.1.2-n7000.zip) since August this year and I am so happy with the performance and the flexibility it offers me. As a software developer by profession, I would expect most of my gadget to be highly customizable and programmable (one time or at intervals) to suit my needs as close as it can. I was introduced to Automation for Android – Tasker (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.dinglisch.android.taskerm&hl=en) via reddit (http://www.reddit.com/r/tasker) and the word ‘automation’ was enough for me to dive right into this app. Only automation that I did earlier was switching profiles depending on location on there phones. And now, just imagine a complete set of possibilities that can be automate on the phone or via the phone. I did my research and found a couple of other tools that do the same/as close as what Tasker can do and few of them are even free. There’s one even by Microsoft called on{X} (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.microsoft.onx.app&hl=en). Microsoft’s on{X} really caught my eye. You can write code for your phone on the web application by them, deploy it on your phone and even trace the flow all using your PC. Really brilliant, I love the fact that it’s all JavaScript. Here comes the but, it is still very very young and it’s policy of accessing my News Feed on Facebook is not something that I can not digest. On{X} is good, but as I said earlier, the API is not very mature and hence, I gave up on it. I bought Tasker, the best 5,00 € I spent in ages and I want to talk about it in this post. I am still a “noob” while operating this tool, but I tried my shot at automating WhatsApp (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.whatsapp&hl=en), a popular messenger for various platform. The requirement for the automation is that, if I send a WhatsApp ‘wru’ message to the phone, it should respond back giving the location and battery level of my phone.
