    I have created a number of dump files using Linux dump(8), using the -A option to get a table of contents on disk (the backups are on tape). Now I'm trying to look into these archive files, using restore -i -A <archive>` However, this insists on asking what tape to use, and complains if I say none. What am I doing incorrectly? I was hoping that I can use these archive index files without having to insert the tape to use.

In my situation it is a slow USB drive that I use for nightly backup, but I would prefer to use my C drive for the install folder.     We are having trouble adding our batch scripts to the new Windows 7 taskar. Our batchfiles take some arguments and just execute other application based on those arguments . To keep it simple, we created some shortcuts for our customers which they just need to click in order to get everything running. The question here is: How can we pin those shortcuts or batch files to the taskbar? (The customers aren't supposed to access the file system and that's why they can only see the taskbar)

    I'd like to be able to do something like Host * HostName *.mydomain.com ... So I can type something like ssh test ssh ci ssh dev Instead of having to type ssh test.mydomain.com ssh ci.mydomain.com ssh dev.mydomain.com Right now I have separate entries for each one, but we have dozens of machines, so I'd rather have a default rather than have to duplicate everything so many times.

    Is it possible to trace which file or process or database query is effecting the load on a VPS? I am using Centos with 512 MB Guarantee Memory and 1 GB burst Memory, I am running 3 wordpress sites from it, where all are having daily traffic of 30-100 visitors each, After every 2-3 days I need to restart my VPS because the resources are taking high usage of memory, I tried running top command and it shows Apache as high, But is it possible to check which website is taking load? Some of the machines( we have no information regarding their ip, name and no physical access to the servers) in the network are connected to internet and they run an http proxy at some port say 3128. Is there a program which can be run on Windows or Linux which will give me the list of machines(ip addresses and ports if possible) acting as proxy servers?

  • How to circumvent ISP Limiting "Unknown" traffic - (SSH)Proxy, VPN

    I am having issues with using a proxy/VPN, with my current ISP (Comenersol, Spain). From my point of view they limit traffic by protocol or by traffic they "know" and "dont know". I'll explain my findings so far below. Internet connection in Spain: ~400-420KByte/sec (speedtest.net) OpenVPN Server in Sweden(pfsense): 100/100Mbit. LZO Compression. TCP. Tun. Aes128 Squid Proxy server in Sweden (pfsense): 100/100 (same box as the vpn server). Plain, no encryption. Runs in stealth mode to hide the use of proxy. NOT running OpenVPN or Squid Proxy, this is my findings: When I download a file from my pfsense box in Sweden, I get maximum speed When I run speedtest.net and choose any european server (including Swedish), I get max speed When I download a torrent (with non default port above 10K), I get limited to ~100KByte/sec. Encryption is turned off If I download something through https, I get max speed Running either Squid Proxy or VPN, this is my findings When I download a file from my pfsense box in Sweden, I get ~100KByte/sec When I run speedtest.net and choose any european server (including Swedish and Spanish), I get ~100Kbyte/sec When I download a torrent, I get same limitation ~100KByte/sec When I download something through https, I get ~100KByte/sec I verify the speeds above with speedtest.net measure, firefox measure in addition to having bmon running in terminal in the background. This way I am certain that the speeds I get presented, are in fact correct. If I connect through a different ISP with VPN or Squid Proxy, I get better speeds (400KByte/sec ++) In short: Whenever I tunnel my traffic through Sweden, my SPanish ISP throttles the traffic. I thought tunneling it through Squid would solve the issue, since I then would no longer hide my traffic through encryption. This does not seem to be the case. Wget and fetch gives same result. I did not try 'nc', but I assume this would give the same result. Does anyone know how to circumvent this issue? I would very much like to be able to get full speed with Swedish ip, as this would make me able to stream TV at higher quality than today. 100KByte/sec just does not cut it quality wise.     There are some badly implemented programs like iTunes that are very... difficult to close, and interpret a close command (alt-f4 or clicking the 'x') as "minimize". Is there any setting I can change so that when I close a program it forces it to close, without having to go through the trouble of opening the task manager, find the program, kill it or clicking "close/quit" in 1000 different places hoping that one will do the trick?

  • Hide non printable characters in vim

    Vim shows non-printable characters prefixed with a ^ (for instance ^@ for a NUL byte). I have a column based file containing both printable and non-printable characters which is difficult to read, since each non-printable character shifts all remaining columns one character to the right. Is there a way to hide non-printable characters or simply display a placeholder char instead? I also don't mind having every character be represented by two characters.

    i have a server i save a lot of files, i wonder how i use webdav with netbeans. eg. import a webdav folder edit the php files and save it the new changes apply immediately on the web server (cause the webdav folder is the same as the apache web root folder) i think this is a very smart solution so that you can change the website immediately, without having to download, change and upload. anyone that knows how to accomplish this? (feel free to propose other quick solutions for how to do quick edits)

    I'm wondering where to find detailed information regarding the Microsoft Advanced Windows Firewall command line settings. For instance, from reading a couple technet articles I've learned that I can run the following: netsh advfirewall firewall set rule group=”File and Printer Sharing” new enable=Yes The bit about 'group="File and Printer Sharing"' is the part I'm having trouble finding documentation for.     For a frequent task, I need a file manager window open with about 8 tabs, each a different location. I'd like to be able to open the tabs once and then save them as a "tab set", so that in future sessions, I can simply open a file manager and restore the saved tab set, without having to open each tab manually. I'm running Mint 16 with Thunar, but could use a different file manager if needed. Is there a way to do this?
