  • Windows 7 NNTP Server

    I am doing some development that requires some interaction with an NNTP server, however I don't want to develop against a live server for obvious reasons and am trying to get a local NNTP server setup for testing, but for the life of me I can't find any guides on setting one up in (preferably) Windows 7. Can anyone shed some light? I've found that in IIS 6 you were able to setup an NNTP server, but I unfortunately do not have a 2003 VM at my disposal, I'm stuck with either XP or Windows 7. Thanks

  • Why does PSEXEC work if I don't specify a password?

    When I run PSEXEC to launch a process on a remote machine, if I specify the password in the command line it fails with: PsExec could not start cmd.exe on web1928: Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password. psexec \\web1928 -u remoteexec -p mypassword "cmd.exe" If I just specify: psexec \\web1928 -u remoteexec "cmd.exe" and type in the password it works just fine. The originating server is Windows 2003 and the remote server is Windows 2008 SP2.

    I have a domain controller running on Windows 2008 Server R2 and users login to application servers on which Windows 2003 Server SP2 is installed. I have applied a Group Policy to clean temporary internet files on exit i.e to delete all temporary internet files when users close the browser. But the group policy doesn't seem to work as user profile size keeps on increasing and the major space is occupied by temporary internet files therefore increasing the disk usage. How can i enforce automatic deletion of temporary internet files?

  • What are the side-effects of disabling the old Lan Manager hash?

    All of the computers in our domain are running Windows XP/Server 2003 and above (with one exception, a Win2Ksp4 server, which is not a domain controller). I intend to disable the LM hashes via group policy as indicated in KB299656, and want to ensure that there won't be any unforseen problems or side-effects. Does anyone have experience with performing this change? Are there any caveats that I should keep in mind?

    Hi I have created a windows2003 cluster and then try to configure MSDTC by following the link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/301600/#appliesto after follow this i have enable network DTC access in Windows Server 2003 by following http://support.microsoft.com/kb/817064/ But the group i have created MSDTC( as said in first link from 7th point onwards ) for the resourse Distribution Transaction Coordinator failed and all are in online after done this. But i dont know why it is failing.. I dont know how to post the screen shot here.....

    Hey all I'm running XP Pro SP3 on a Late 2007-era 2.2Ghz Macbook. Unfortunately, it's recently started giving me a Blue Screen of Death when I try to hibernate it. It gives me the error "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL", and at the bottom says that it's in "hiber_atapi.sys". Most of the Googling I've done thus far turns up things referring to Windows Server 2003, which is obviously less than useful. Anyone know any way to fix this short of a full re-install?

    I have a machine with Windows XP, Server 2003 R2, and Server 2008 R2. Right now, bootmgr has one entry for Server 2008 R2 and one entry for ntldr, which then leads to the ntldr boot.ini menu. Is it possible to add two different nt52 entries on two partitions so that I can access all three OSes from the bootmgr menu? Right now, Server 2008 and XP are in logical drives on an extended partition, but (I assume) I can image them onto basic partitions if necessary.

    I have MSMQ installed on two Windows XP computers. Can I configure them to pass messages back and forth, or do I need an MSMQ server in the middle? If I need an MSMQ server, does the normal MSMQ with Win2003 able to act as that? And then, how do I connect my Windows XP to that Windows 2003 server? It works fine when using GPO at: Setting Path: Computer Configuration/Administrative Templates/Windows Components/Internet Explorer/Internet Control Panel/Security Page Supported On: At least Internet Explorer 6.0 in Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 Problem is this settings also affect other zones making it impossible for people in company to add sites to other zones themselves. Is there a way to fix this so that Intranet Zone is deployed thru GPO and rest of settings stay in gesture of users?

    We have a backup application that uses the Windows API BackupRead. It works correctly on Windows Server 2003, 2008, 2008 R2. It does not work on Storage Server 2008 R2. It always fails with error 50 - The request is not supported. The documentation for BackupRead gives no indication that it will not work with Storage Server 2008 R2. Anyone else have any experience using this API on Storage Server 2008 R2?

    We have a sever that shares all the printers. The PC's that are running on XP professional get a error message quoting (Connect to Printer). The only way I can find to get around the problem is by restating the printer and as soon is it comes online you can then add it but you have not got long. do you think it could be anything to-do with updates on the sever? the sever system is running Windows Server 2003 any help would be much appreciated.   • IBM x260m won't boot from PCI raid card

    Hi. We ghosted our old Windows 2003 drive to a new 1TB one, and connected through new PCI SATA card. The server fails to boot with error 1962: Boot sector not found. When we connect the drive directly to motherboard, it boots fine, so the problem is probably in getting BIOS boot from the SATA card. Does anyone know how to do it? Thanks.
