• WRTU54G-TM router with 3rd party firmware; Can custom firmware include stock binary portions?

  I've been doing a lot of reading online about the Linksys WRTU54G-TM router model that I now own. It seems getting a custom firmware onto it is not a problem. But no one is talking about retaining the Voip features (yet). So far they're all disappointed that it's not a SIP machine and used GSM over IPSec. Personally I don't care about using it with non-t-mobile. If I take the original firmware, shouldn't I be able to extract it, and it's SquashFS image, and then move all of the t-mobile specific binaries for enabling the calling features over to a custom firmware installation (maybe OpenWRT)? You might ask why, and the reason is, that if I do this I could retain my calling features, which I do want, and ssh to the router and use it to run additional software, as any OpenWRT router could do. Does anyone know if this can be done, and how the firmware's binaries could be gotten at and installed correctly? Update I have found someone working on 3rd party WRTU54G-TM firmware. I am still interested in my second part of the questions, that is can't the stock firmware images be pulled apart and have the close-source, if any, binary kernel modules moved into another more flexible custom firmware?

• Connect bluetooth headphones both to PC and phone at the same time

  I have recently bought Philips SHB6110. Extract from the 13th page of manual: Therefore you can connect your Bluetooth stereo headset. with a Bluetooth stereo enabled phone to both listen to music and lead calls, or with a Bluetooth phone that does not support Bluetooth stereo (A2DP) to lead calls and at the same time to a Bluetooth audio device (Bluetooth enabled MP3 player, Bluetooth audio adapter etc.) to listen to music. Make sure to pair the phone first with your Bluetooth headset, then turn both the phone and headset off to then pair the Bluetooth audio device. With the SwitchStream feature you can listen to music and monitor your calls at the same time. Even while listening to music, you will hear a ring tone when receiving a call and can switch to the call simply by tapping the button. The manual however doesn't specify how do I connect to both device at the same time. I use Toshiba Satellite Pro P300-1CG laptop with Belkin Mini Bluetooth Adapter and Nokia N95 phone. Operating system is Windows 7 64-bit and I have Skype installed. Both phone and compute can be used for listening to music and talking on the phone (on PC via Skype). Best solution would be if I could connect to PC and phone as the same time and monitor calls both mobile and Skype calls while listening music from Winamp. If that is not possible, then I would like at least to be able to listen music from PC, while monitoring calls from mobile. So, please tell me how do I connect both PC and phone to headphones?

• Are there any Microsoft Exchange Clients for iOS and Android that store their local data in an encrypted manner?

  I don't feel like this is a product recommendation question, more of a "does this tech even exist and is it feasible" question, but if I'm wrong, feel free to give this question the boot. Context: Our company has a bunch of traveling employees who access the company's Exchange server via thier iDevices or android phones, but because of the data protection laws in the state where our company is based (and the nature of the data our company works with), a recent security audit found that all mobile devices (laptops, phones, etc) operated by our company need to have all company correspondence and related data encrypted all the time. For laptops, that was easy: BitLocker or TrueCrypt, problem solved. For phones and tablets, however, I'm stumped. Sure, you can put lock screens/passwords on the phones, but the data is still accessible via external extraction, as law enforcement authorities already know. Question: Are there any clients for Microsoft Exchange that run on iOS or Android which store local data encrypted? The people using our mobile devices do a lot of their work while offline, so just giving them OWA access with SSL connection security isn't enough. Are there apps/technologies that present an additional login credential prompt to decrypt locally stored data in the app's storage area on the phone? My gut reaction when I started looking into this was "that doesn't sound like something Apple would allow into the App Store", but I've been wrong before...

  Next year I'll be 21. I'll have 3 years of professional experience under my belt (with a one year break as a soldier). I'm planning to take 2 to 3 years off. Instead of going to a university I'm planning to work on personal projects and learn on my own. I'm looking for suggestions of great, cheap, programmer-friendly (e.g. lots of cafes, ordered food, parks, blazing fast internet connection, wifi, lots of people that speak English) cities around the world, (and specifically in Europe as I also have european citizenship). If you can supply with an estimate cost of living for that city, or a site for comparisons that will also be great. edit: I'm living in Tel Aviv, ~20 highest cost of living city in the world, so statistically speaking almost all the cities are cheaper.

• What steps should I follow to start developing website applications?

  Hello, I've been developing desktop applications for about 4 years, using .NET, C++, C, and a little of Python. I've covered lots of topics while developing my applications, and even web technologies (cookies, GET/POST methods, when programming some scrapers/crawlers). I've been always waiting to start developing websites, preferably using PHP + MySQL, although other advises will be welcomed to make this question more useful and generic for others. I know I could use a CMS instead of starting from scratch, but sometimes I don't need an entire CMS to do minor things... What steps should I follow to create a website? Let's suppose I have a web designer. First of all, the designer designs the entire website (CSS, etc) and then I do the programming stuffs, like loading dynamically things from databases, doing some client-side stuffs with javascript, etc? Or how is the best way to do it? Edit: I'm not looking for tools/frameworks/languages suggestions. What I want to know is how a team (or a developer with a designer) starts creating a website. The steps they do, what tasks they do first, how they integrate the work, etc. An example of an answer could be: 1) Design the entire website with good CSS practices, using containers instead of tables in some cases, etc. 2) Use that design and develop the logic or the functionalities of the website. Of course, that's just an example. I'm looking for a good way to approach it, because I've been wanting to start on it but don't really know how exactly to organize the job :/

• Will my new HTML5 website decrease my Google ranking?

  Hi, I have a traditional HTML website that loads pages/sections of the site when people click on menu items. Pretty standard. Currently, I'm working on relaunching my website with a brand new HTML5 code & jquery that loads the whole thing, and just slides from one section to the next, sort of like this website: http://www.mino.pl/ My concern is that this will affect my ranking with google and websiteoutlook.com because it may seem like the website only has one page now instead of 8, making it look like I have less pageviews and making my site less relevant for search engine rankings. Are my concerns legit? If so, do you have suggestions on how to avoid it? I really like the idea of working with a page that 'slides' to different sections better than having pages load all the time. Any suggestions/thoughts would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

  Few weeks ago, I implemented translation functionality for the website of my company. The website is now available in french and english and I did look on the internet the best way to do if we want to do not lose any ranking and to have our pages on Google. My html tag is set with a lang attribute: <html lang="en"> and <html lang="fr"> There is a <link rel="alternate" hreflang="en" href="EnglishPageUrl"> on french pages and a <link rel="alternate" hreflang="en" href="frenchPageUrl"> on english pages. But Google keeps referring to some english pages when I'm doing a search on french engine, knowing that the website was first only available in english. Is that normal? Then my concern is about seo friendliness. say the main domain of my account is maindomain.com on which I have added an addon domain say domain2.com. That means cpanel will generate domain2.maindomain.com and the contents of domain2.com will be practically stored into a subfolder in maindomain.com. Now, assume both maindomain.com and domain2.com have same structure both optimized for seo same way. I don't want to be too limiting in terms of what file formats I support, etc. Some specific questions: Are there specific formats artists like to model in? Does it not matter because the 3D modeler abstracts the data storage away? Is it okay if I don't support per-vertex coloration in my game engine? If I have to store a diffuse, specular, ambient, and emissive color value for each vertex, it doubles the size of vertices in the buffer. Is it reasonable to ask artists to do all these things in textures / maps? Any other tips you have about making it so that artists have to adapt their style to my specific engine as little as possible would be nice.

• Receiving and processing SMS messages through a script?

  I am attempting to setup a system to receive and process SMS messages automatically. The system is intended for use in a context (an unfunded migrant workers' union in India) where both finances and sysadmin skills are extremely constrained (I would be the only person, in the near future, who would be administering the system). The intention is to make some functions - registration of members, generation of ID cards, communication of alerts and other information - easier. However, for receiving and sending SMS, I have not been able to find any email to SMS or other kind of gateway that functions in India. Perhaps there is one (edit: apparently Clickatell does have an India service, but the prices appear astronomical). If not, can one rely on a USB mobile modem (such as those provided by many mobile providers in India)? It seems like, with utilities such as gammu or bitpim, SMS operations on such a modem could be scripted. Is this actually feasible, though? • how can i track visits to ALL of the subpages of my website COMBINED TOGETHER?

  Right now im using statcounter and google analytics. They are great. But my counts are currently separated. Ex: website.com = 1000 visits a day, website.com/about = 50 visits a day, website.com/privacy = 10 visits a day, etc.. How can have a combined count of all of my sub-pages? (mainpage + about page + about 100 other sub-pages ) I can of course manually add them all together, but that's time consuming because there are many pages. I tried placing a separate tracking code in a php include that sits in each of the sub-pages, but it doesnt seem to be working. It seems to require a single URL to create it, which it then only counts the visits from the one url, rather than ALL of them. Ex: website.com) Any help would be appreciated. Hopefully im just missing something very obvious. Thank you!
