• Randomly getting a 500 error on my website

  I am randomly getting a 500 error on my websites, all of which are hosted on a shared server. It won't happen all the time, just randomly when I will refresh the page I will get a 500 error. It usually will come back after I refresh a few times. I've been reading about it and have heard that .htaccess files can cause this... I did recently start using an .htaccess file to tell my server to start using php 5. I got the code straight from the hosting company that I am with. This is what is in the .htaccess file: AddType x-mapp-php5 .php If anyone has any ideas as to what would be causing this, that would really help. Thanks!

• Adding FTP publishing to IIS Website: cannot connect

  I used the wizard to add ftp publishing with anonymous access and mydomain.com as binding (I followed this tut: http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_tutorials/IIS-FTP-Publishing-Service-Part2.html ) When I try to connect with filezilla with anonymous user I get "EAI_NODATA - No address associated with nodename". The tutorial on IIS never mentions anything like this so how to fix this ? Should I use ftp.mydomain.com instead ? If yes should I do something (add A record in dns ?)

  I have a production web server that makes sites to be very slow when load for first time. After the first time all connections are normal and fast. In the following screen you can see the first test I have run for a random site in my server: and here you can see the result of the second time request: As you can see there is a big change in the second load of the same page. Here is the page load time graph: My problem is that I don't really know anything about Red Had Linux server, and also I don't know where can I start. Can somebody to help me ? • Unable to get anything except 403 from a .Net 4.5 website

  Scenario: Clean Server 2008 R2 Install with IIS Role. Installed Framework 3.5 (Server Features) Installed Framework 4.5 RC (MS Download) executed C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319>aspnet_regiis.exe -i (I'd use -iru on existing servers but this is a clean build). Published via File System (SMB share) Converted the folder into an application using the .Net 4.0 Integrated App Pool Stopped/restarted everything. Browsing to localhost/TestApp results in a 403.14 (Directory browsing forbidden) What step have I missed out? The site in question is MVC4 and targets the 4.5 RC framework

  I was wondering if there was a way to schedule automatic FTP site backup with any free or open-source software? Clients like FileZilla do not have an automatic backup (ftp download) option. Is there a way to schedule this with any program, by using the windows task scheduler? Or maybe we need to use a macro program like imacro in combination with FireFTP to do the job? Do you think using macro is a feasible and secure(reliable) solution?

• How can I download videos from this website?

  I wanted to downlaod some of these short videos from chinadaily.com. For example, http://video.chinadaily.com.cn/2013/1012/1388.shtml I have tried NetVideoHunter with Firefox, which works for me for many other sites. But here, NetVideoHunter shows me very small segments of less than 200 KB and when I try to play them (in the NVH panel itself), it says 'Connecting' and then 'Stream not found'. I have seen other question on SuperUser about how to download a Flash video. • I can't externally access my home server's wordpress website

  Basically, I can access everything just fine using 127.0.0.1, but if I use my external IP (123.123.123.123), I get page not found. My router is port forwarding HTTP port 80 to port 8080 on my servers internal IP address. • Round robin DNS for dynamic website

  We want to setup multiple servers hosting the same site. Each server (iis6 or iis7) is on its own. Meaning it does not sjare any information with the others. They are not even in the same country. The problem we encounter is that if we setup a round-robin DNS (multiple IDs under one Domainname) is that the client (browser) switches the servers so that the asp.net session gets lost. The question is how do we set this up, so the clients are randomly send to one of the servers and if one fails the users go to the next one. But if a user is using one of the it should stay there. • Windows Authentication with IIS7 with public facing website

  By default in IIS7, Windows Authentication was turned off and I had to make a configuration change to activate it. When I did that there was a description for Windows Authentication that explained this should only be used for intranet sites, not public facing websites. When you consider NTLM/Kerberos does not use plain text I am not sure why Microsoft have decided this, all of a sudden. Can anybody explain?

Externally it is not accessable, I have tried the url and ip and neither work. I have tried different configuring on port 8081 as a test and that didnt work either.   Hi, I've been battling with this issue for couple of months. I need to send bulk mail (not spam) through my social network to users in situations like newsletters, site invitations (when user imports their address book contacts) I'm using shared hosting and it limits 500 mails per hour. Even though i manage to send mails most of them end up in user's spam box. After researching these are the solutions that i finally came up with. 1) Use Google Apps SMTP (http://www.google.com/apps/intl/en/business/features.html) 2) Move into VPS 3) Use shared hosting with throttle enabled Please advise me on what to choose. Will using Google Apps prevent mail being sent as spam? I can't use other 3rd party SMTP like iContact or Aweber as "invitation sending script" will send emails to thousands of contacts, depending on user's addressbook. Thanks in advance

When I get home, the most mundane task like opening a web-page becomes a five minute stress-test. So what I was thinking was to download the web-page, for example superdickery. I was wondering what the best method would be to download the entire image archive of the page? Would this be illegal, if I did this?   I'm a programmer by trade, "server administrator" by company necessity. We're looking at dumping the old painful "update site by FTP upload" style of deployment. Having the webserver check out the latest code base from version control into a folder and having a "current" symlink point to the latest checkout (allowing for easily stepping back to an older version by changing the symlink) seems to be the way we want to go. But I have a question: what's a good practice for dealing with user-uploaded content? This stuff isn't in version control. I have a couple of ideas for dealing with this, but what is the smart, accepted practice?

  I have CentOS 5 installed on my server. I'm in VPS server. I have site where I have constant online ~150. First look on site looks OK. But when I go through links, sometimes I receive Out of memory PHP error. It looks like this Fatal error: Out of memory (allocated 36962304) (tried to allocate 7680 bytes) in /home/host/public_html/sites/all/modules/cck/modules/fieldgroup/fieldgroup.install on line 100 And always, not allocated memory is very small. In average I have 30% CPU load, 25% RAM load. So I think here is not a physical memory problem. My PHP memory limit was set to 1500MB. • Fix/Bypass "Cannot connect to the real website-blocked" error in Google Chrome with OpenDNS blocking

  I have a large problem with Chrome in my organisation. I use DNS to manage web site blocking, for sites which are not appropriate and are potentially a risk to the organisation where I do this. I only want to use Chrome over the network, as Internet Explorer has compatibility problems with some sites that we use (We cannot change this either or use different sites). Therefore using internet explorer is not a solution. I do not want to install a different browser, for multiple reasons. Mainly because of the difficulty of rewriting the customised add-ons that we use. However, recently, I have had lots of problems with Chrome SSL Errors. I cannot use my custom OpenDNS block pages, which uses the contact form to request an unblocking. Chrome often blocks OpenDNS for sites (a good example is Facebook) that request HTTPS. Some sites like https://internetbadguys.com (OpenDNS example) This means that chrome refuses to load the blocking page, explaining that the site is blocked. Instead they often call IT support, but they want a solution, as they are sick of getting lots of SSL errors. I have tried looking into ways to turning this off. I have tried: Typing "proceed". That didn't work. Typing "proceed", pressing enter. Didn't work I cannot find phishing and anti-malware any more in Chrome, from the internet guides. Not using HTTPS. However there is an automatic redirect to HTTPS on most sites. Therefore the error keeps coming up. Checking my clocks. They were correct. Does anyone have an idea on how to disabling, bypassing or working around this "feature"? EDIT: This is an example what I am talking about - I found that on google images. I do not block google. EDIT 2: My clocks are correct. I cannot stop using OpenDNS either. EDIT 3: My question is: How do I stop chrome from refusing to load pages that are blocked by OpenDNS, where the server has explicitly requested HTTPS.

  Without configuring apache to support SNI, can I purchase a SSL cert and use on a Centos Linux server that has 2 name-based Vhost? I'm only interested in securing ONE of the two domains. Could this be configured in the httpd config file, such as maybe listing the domain that needs to be secured, first etc? I know SNI can be used for multiple certs on a single server with multiple domains. In my case, I'm only interested in securing a single domain.

• How to diagnose website performance/app pool recycling with Windows 2008/IIS7

  Ok, so there are various symptoms here (clients and and our own employees complaining of intermittent slowdowns, getting 'kicked out' to login page or just having a save request not properly save the submitted data). The environment: Windows Server 2008 (Datacenter), Service Pack 2, 64-bit, 2x2.8 GHz processors, 7.5 GB RAM MS SQL Server 2008 (running on the same machine) IIS 7 There are ~10 websites running on the server, each in their own application pool - most of these pools are running in Integrated mode, 2 are in Classic, all are on .NET 2.0 and all run as ApplicationPoolIdentity. I'm trying to analyze, diagnose, and troubleshoot and am struggling with where to get more info about what could be happening. Here are some steps i have already taken: Set each application pool to recycle once per day, and removed any other automatic recycling Set a Virtual Memory Limit for each to 1024000KB (1GB) Enabled ALL 'Generate Recycle Event Log Entry' entries (Config Changes, Isapi Reported Unhealthy, Manual Recycle, Private Memory Limit Exceeded, Regular Time Interval, Request Limit Exceeded, Specific Time, Virtual Memory Limit Exceeded) I have seen the app pool processes recycle (in Task Manager) - a new one will start up, and then the first one dies off - and this has happened without the memory or time going over the settings. This is a fairly new server, and most of these came from Windows Server 2003/IIS6. Any 'next steps' for setting up information gathering, logging, diagnosing, etc. would be much appreciated! j
