    I'd like to broadcast audio from my Mac desktop to my Palm Pre, as the Pre is more portable and I can use it in the kitchen, or while I'm exercising, and so on. I can already capture the audio using Soundflower, but how might I create an MP3 stream out of the audio input device? For all intents and purposes, Soundflower can reduce this question down to, "How can I create an MP3 stream from the built-in microphone on my Mac?" as the answer can be applied equally well to iTunes output.

  • Best way to integrate applications to windows 7 install.wim image

    I have right now an unmodified .iso of a windows 7 32bit and 64bit installation disk. And I need to integrate to that some applications (office, adobe reader etc) and windows updates so that when windows are installed the above applications/updates are already installed and working. Requirements: My output has to be a install.wim image containing the new/improved windows installation files because the deployment is done via a pxe server and a custom windowsPE enviroment. The procedure to create the install.wim has to be as automatic as possible. I can't create it manually every time I want to incorporate a new windows or application update to the image. The image will be installed on 100+ computers so it needs to be 'generic'. I've never done something like this before but from what I searched a possible solution to this issue would be: To create a reference installation (preferably on a vm so I can take snapshots) complete with its applications/updates/settings. After the complete setup I take a snapshot of the installation Run C:\Windows\System32\sysprep\sysprep.exe /oobe /generalize /shutdown to sysprep the machine. Boot to a WindowsPE enviroment and capture the .wim image using gimagex. Deploy the .wim and enjoy the rapid installation times. :D Does that sound ok? Would you recommend anything else? Right now the applications are installed after the installation of windows is complete. So the total installation time is quite long. That's why I need a different approach.

  • Are there any open source reseller packages?

    My department has just been given the right/responsibility to manage our own VPS. The idea being that the bureaucracy will be less for the many small web projects we run. Since each project will be managed by a different team, I was planning on approaching a shared hosting model. Are there any free pieces of software that would help automate the provision of resources each time a team request a new project? Most of the projects have identical requirements - basically LAMP - so it would be these resources that I would want provisioning (and de-provisioning, if that is a word) automatically. Ideally, there would also be a way to hook it into our LDAP authentication backend too, though I could probably make this sort of modification if necessary. Since we won't be charging our "client" however, we won't need the ability to generate invoices, handle payments, etc. etc. EDIT: Sample workflow Login authenticated against LDAP Username checked against admin group (not on central LDAP) Click 'new project' and enter project name User created on VPS with project name as username Apache virtual host created and subdomain (using project name) allocated FTP & MySQL users created

  • Determining the Source of a Given File System Mount on Unix [migrated]

    Background Recently I have run into a bit of a snag on my home FreeBSD server. I recently upgraded it to the latest stable release, and I have noticed some strange behavior with the /var partition. Originally, I had the system configured such that /var had its own partition with /var/run and /var/log in memory disks (/tmp, too). After the upgrade, I notice there is a new, fourth memory disk mounting directly to /var that I had not set up manually and is not in my fstab. It is only 28 megs or so in size and is causing problems when trying to update my ports collection. The ramdisk mounts atuomagically at boot and cannot be unmounted while in multi-user mode. If I drop to single user mode, I am able to unmount it without issue, however rebooting causes it to pop right back up. System specifications have been included at the end of the post. Question Is there any way to determine exactly what is mounting a given memory disk (or any filesystem, for that matter) after it has been mounted? Alternately, does anybody have any ideas what might have caused the new /var ramdisk to pop up?     Hi I want to protect SSH access to our live web server from all IP's except our office static IP. There are some employees who connects to this live server from their dynamic IP's. So, it is not always possible for me to change in the iptables rule in live server whenever the dynamic IP of the employee changes. I tried to put them in office VPN and allowed only SSH access from office IP but the office connection is slow in compared to our employee's private internet connection, moreover it adds an extra overhead to our office network. Is there any way I can solve this problem ?

  • Install VirtualBox on Ubuntu 12.04.1 (on [Samsung] Chromebook)

    I have dual booted Ubuntu Linux 12.04.1 LTS on my Samsung Series 5 ChromeBook, and am trying to run/install Oracle VirtualBox (from the generic .run file downloaded from their website). However, every time I try to run it (as root from the command line), it gives me the following error occurs: Please install the build and header files for your current Linux kernel. The current kernel version is 3.4.0 Problems were found which would prevent VirtualBox from installing. I have tried the version from the Software Center, as well as the command line installation, both of which gave me errors based on my linux-headers/linux-kernel/linux-[kernel]-image. Here's an error I keep getting (on the command line): First Installation: checking all kernels...   • Using AutoHotKey to change audio output source?

    I have two primary audio outputs on my machine: The speakers and a USB headset. Currently, in Windows 7 Professional x64, I type "sound" in the Start search menu to open up this dialog: I only care about the top two options for the purposes of this question. I would like to know if there's a way in AutoHotKey to switch from "Speakers (4- Sennheiser USB Headset)" to "Speakers (VIA High Definition Audio)" so I can avoid having to open this dialog every time I wish to switch.   • Cannot Install Phusion Passenger 3.0.13 with Nginx 1.2.1

    I installed gem Passenger which installed 3.0.13. Then I executed passenger-install-nginx-module which is what the Nginx instructions on http://www.modrails.com said to do. It installs the latest stable version which is 1.2.1 according to the Nginx official wiki page. I said to install Nginx to /usr/local/nginx (which is the default if you go to the nginx wiki website).     I am in the situation to give our marketing department the opportunity to maintain their redirects by their own. Until now, they passed the information to the IT department and we maintained it for them in nginx.conf. Some of these guys are quite familiar with redirections in IIS or even in apache but it is no option to give them direct access to the nginx configuration. I see, that there is no nginx support for .htaccess files which I could give access to and I would also prefer not to grant write access to an conf-file that nginx includes. I expect, that our marketing will break our nginx setup within hours... Is there a secure possibility without giving them access our the heart of our load balancer?

  • Time Machine vs Source Control?

    Finally got convinced to start using some kind of version control for my code instead of zipping down a copy of the project at the end of each day. Downloaded Tortoise SVN and used it to create a repository localy on my hdd. I've been using it for 2 days now but I have to say that using it is actually more hassle than just copying the project manually in explorer. Sure, you only store incremental changes but with the cheap disks of today I can't really say that's an argument when you only have small projects. I haven't realy found a quick way to browse the older versions of my files eighter. What I want is an infinite undo that is completely transparent while I code, if I save the file I want a backup. I don't want to check out, check in and don't even get me started on moving files. I haven't tried Time Machine for OS X but it looks like it's exactly what I'm looking for. Does such a program exist for windows? Preferably free and with some kind of tagging-system so I can tag a timestamp when the project is working etc. Maybe should add that I mostly work alone on a single computer. Update: Some of you asked why I want backup. Since I work alone it's mostly to allow me to quickly hack up a solution without worrying that something will screw up.

    I have installed openssh-server in my Ubuntu PC using apt-get install openssh-server. The version is 5.9. Now, I would like to compile and install openssh-server version 6.2 from source codes. I have successfully downloaded the source codes, and run the following commands: ./configure make make install I found that the new version of openssh-server was installed into /usr/local/sbin/. The old version of openssh-server is in /usr/sbin/. I found that the service script in /etc/init.d/ssh is still pointing to /usr/sbin/. And the old openssh-server (v5.9) is still running. How can I replace the old openssh-server with the new openssh-server that I have just compiled and installed? How can I create a init.d script to start and stop the new openssh-server that I've compiled from source manually? How to start the new openssh-server on boot? When I install openssh-server using apt-get install, the config files will be installed into /etc/ssh/. If I compile and install it from source, where is the config file? If I compiled openssh-server from source, but I install openssh-client package using apt-get install, will there be any config files conflict? Thanks.

    I have a web site hosted in an EC2 instance (2008 r2 + iis7.5 + sql server). I put one linux box running RHEL with varnish. After some configuration trail and error, I found a configuration that works. Now I want to duplicate the varnish boxes to other availability zones, but continue to pull the pages from the original windows box. It is my understanding that I can put the varnish boxes in different zones and pull from the windows box via it's external IP. But what do I need to do in order for each user to receive content from the box physically closest to them? Is this even possible? Thank you!

  • Install MS Office on Windows Server 2008 - in support of Quickbooks RemoteApp

    How can I install MS Office on Windows Server 2008? The purpose would be to enable Quickbooks to be able to export to Excel. Quickbooks is set up to run as a RemoteApp in a Terminal Server environment. The Quickbooks applicaiton senses whether or not Excel is installed and will not allow the user to create an Excel report unless Excel is actually installed on the client running Quickbooks. Since the client and the server are the same machine in a Terminal Server environment, Excel must be installed on Windows Server for the Quickbooks Excel exporting feature to work in this setup. There is no need to actually use Excel in a Terminal Services environment. We only need to generate the Excel files using the server, then we can use an installed version Excel on a regular Windows 7 machine to work with the Excel file. MS Office does not normally install on Windows Server. Is there any way to buy a special license? Could we somehow fool Quickbooks into thinking Excel is installed, if that would work?

  • Known USB 2.0 devices don't install driver, but must be manually forced

    When a known USB 2.0 device is plugged in and detected, it doesn't install the driver correctly but shows a Code 28 error and lists the device under "Other Devices" in Device Manager. When view properties of this device , it shows the following status; The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28) There is no driver selected for the device information set or element. To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver. When updating the driver manually and selecting the appropriate driver Windows doesn't believes it's the correct driver, but you can force the installation and it works! The other condition the driver will auto-install is when the same USB device is plugged into a USB 3.0 port. Power related issues are not also causing this as I have tried vi a Docking station, USB hub. etc.. Devices tried; Jabra Headset USB-Mass Storage Device (flash disk and ext HD) MS Wireless Keyboard & Mouse USB Ethernet controller (USB-MAC controller) This is on a laptop part of a Domain with Windows 7 Ent 7601, I am logged in as a local administrator. There isn't any Group Policies blocking not signed driver or whitelisted devices on the domain. Any suggestions please feel free

    i wrote a CD with an iso-image from debian.org. the debian-7.5.0-amd64-CD-1.iso from this folder. Debian Wheezy 7.5 stable 64bit There was an error at Select and install software step. It said Retrieving file 770 from 800 and then it failed the installation. I continued the instal and when i opened the computer it doesn't work the Ctrl + Alt + F7 as i waited. It starts at tty1 and after logging in i edited config file cause it had a lot of errors and said E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages or Couldn't found the package.   • Communication btwn active 3d glasses and source(s)?

    I know that 3d active shutter glasses work with infared or radio (radio = only bluetooth?). I know that both of them are harmfull but, with either of them, does only one signal get send, to just syncronize glasses with monitor, or the trnasmitter and glasses communicate the whole tiime? An infared/bluetooth transimition for a second(s) is tottaly acceptable, no complain at all, unless the transimition is the whole time.

  • Windows 8 Install Hanging at first white-font boot splash

    I'm trying to install the Windows 8 preview on my Samsung Series 9 (2012, Ivy Bridge). I've done a bit of a custom scheme with this one: I'm using EFI/UEFI on this system. I've seen no indication that this system supports secure boot (yay!) My SSD is set up with GPT Ubuntu is already installed and working great via UEFI. I'm trying to boot the Windows 8 install from a USB stick via UEFI I don't have access to a CD drive. The problem is that the boot seems to hang at the very first splash screen that looks like this. White windows font, the little beads don't show up. My USB stick has an activity light and it does blink for the first few seconds, but then goes back to it's "nobody is talking to me" idle pulse. What I know: UEFI booting is definitely working. Windows 8 for those few seconds seems to have some kind of access to the USB drive. My Series 9 is running the latest BIOS/firmware. Any idea what I might be able to do to get Windows 8 installed??
