  • Create table class as a singleton

    I got a class that I use as a table. This class got an array of 16 row classes. These row classes all have 6 double variables. The values of these rows are set once and never change. Would it be a good practice to make this table a singleton? The advantage is that it cost less memory, but the table will be called from multiple threads so I have to synchronize my code which way cause a bit slower application. However lookups in this table are probably a very small portion of the total code that is executed. EDIT: This is my code, are there better ways to do this or is this a good practice?   • Trying to create C++/CLI assembly for use in .NET

    I'm trying to bring a C++ library into C#, so naturally I am trying to make a C++/CLI project. In visual studio I created a new project (Visual C++ project, class library). I then tried to make a test class out of the pre-generated "Class1" namespace Test { public ref class TestIt { public: void DoWork() { System::Console::WriteLine("sup"); } // TODO: Add your methods for this class here. }; } So I compile in and go to the build folder.... hrmm no .dll wetf?? There's a .dll.intermediate.manifest file, but no .dll. So wut I did wrong?

    stdinBackup = 4; dup2(0, stdinBackup); Currently I am doing the above to 'backup' stdin so that it can be restored from backup later after it has been redirected somewhere else. I have a feeling that I am doing a lot wrong? (eg arbitrarily assigning 4 is surely not right). Anyone point me in the right direction?

    Hello, gcc 4.4.4 c89 I am writing a client/server application. I have finished and now I want to implement some logging feature that will display log messages on the screen as well as log to a file. However, I don't want to display all log messages (warning, error, critical, unrecoverable, debug, etc). Maybe I can set so that it will display, just errors and debug messages and nothing else. For example, the user might not be interested in the debug messages. Is there any design-pattern that I can follow? What do you normally for for logging? Any tutorials out there that address logging? many thanks for any suggestions,

    I have just started learning programming and I would like to make a script into a chrome extension. Its a basic script and I hope to practice more and more and develop bigger projects and set myself bigger tasks This script has to do the following : reload a page every 20 seconds (say google.com) after 6 months the script must not run (maybe prompt a window saying "its over 6 months") The code should be able to go into a small chrome extension and also the 6 month time period should be absolute not relative to the time the script was started; for example should the browser crash and i have to turn on the extension again it should not restart the 6 month counter. Also if anyone could recommend any good sources for JavaScript to learn (preferably books; nothingIi read online ever seems to stick)

    Another annoying one for me but probably something simple. I have a number of possible where clauses for a query based on user input, my question is how can I add these programmatically? I've tried ArrayLists, Dictionaries and a few other methods but can't find a way of doing it.   • Create table with PHP and populate from MySQL

    Hi all, I am creating a table to display on a web page and that table is populated from data in a MySQL database. I am trying to do a couple of things that are making it difficult for me. First I am trying to have call the PHP code that exists in a separate file in HTML via JavaScript. I think I have that working right but I am not 100% sure (because the table will not display). I think it is working right because some of the code for the table (which is in the PHP file) displays in FireBug. Second I am trying to make it so the rows alternate colors for easy viewing too. My PHP code so far is below.     I need to ask if any of you has any knowledge of creating file thumbnails on the fly. I have found a free component but it works only for PDF files, PDFThumbnailer. But my requirement is to convert DOC/RTF/PDF/XLS files to thumbnails on the fly, and if possible allow to save it as an image for later reference which currently PDFThumbnailer doesnt allow. PDFThumbnailer takes the pdf file and renders an image for it on browser, if that image can also be saved somehow to my machine that would be great too. Please guide me of how to achieve the above requirements. Any help for any filetype is appreciated. Thanks Imdadhusen

    I probably couldn't depict it better in the title (and if it has a term let me know), but just to quell the obscurity, I was referring to something like this. After you wait for the page to load, see how when you scroll down, the social media left bar stays fixed, but then when you scroll just enough that it meets your upper side, it sticks to it as you scroll further. I wanted to implement something corny and pretentious like that, so does anybody know a tutorial or a method to get that done in jquery? (I can probably do it myself, if I'm not mistaken, just need some sense of direction from savvy jqueryists). Is there a way to know when and how much a user scrolls? Can it be done with id's like the # url appendix to jump to a specific element? Just some ideas...

So I attempted to copy the class style of the box and do the same for my Icons.. code looks like this... class Icons(pygame.sprite.Sprite): def __init__(self): pygame.sprite.Sprite.__init__(self) self.image = pygame.image.load("images/airbrushIC.gif").convert() self.rect = self.image.get_rect() self.rect.x = 25 self.rect.y = 550 the code in the main() rect = image.get_rect() rect.x = 25 rect.y = 550 ic1 = Icons((screen.get_rect().x, screen.get_rect().y)) screen.blit(ic1.image, ic1.rect) pygame.display.update() This code produces a positional (accepts 1 argument but 2 are there) error or an image is not referenced error (inside the Icon class). I'm unsure if this is the right way to go about this anyways.. I know for sure that I need to load all the images (as sprites)... store them in an array... and then have my mouse check if it is clicking one of the items in the array using a for loop. Thanks. Which begs the question how I make sprites outside of a class.. If there is a way to make the class work please let me know.

    Here is my current issue. I need to display a tree like structure displaying a recall roster. Our DBA created a stored procedure that returns [level],[name],[contact_info]. Example looks like: [1] [test name1] [contact info] [2] [sub to1] [contact info] [3] [sub to2] [contact info] [4] [sub to3] [contact info] [3] [sub to2] [contact info] [2] [sub to1] [contact info] etc... It's sorted in the order of the hierarchy I haven't really worked with XML much but is that the way to go in loading/presenting this data. Currently when I retrieving the data I'm returning it in a datatable. There may also be a need to export this data to Excel. Can anyone point me a good direction to go with this?

  • How to make your more experienced and authoritative teammates not to create 'fast temporary solution

    I'm currently working on a small short-lived project. But despite the size it's complicated enough with very unclear logic. That's why it was started by more experienced developers. They work on it from time to time because it's not their main project. They made some code drafts with numerous places which 'would be rewritten in the nearest future'. After that they added several another 'temporary pieces'. And then again.. So, now the project is a mess of 'half-working' pieces of code with some hardcoded values, like file names or some constants which 'will be replaced latter with working parts'. The API is awful (nobody thinks about it actually). And it's really, really hard to do development now (for me it's the main and only project). I caught myself thinking that I spent about an hour every day just to understand again all that tricky 'temporary' things and API weaknesses. And after that hour my brain melts. I can't just say that "guys, your code smells like a trash dump". What's the correct way?
