  • help understanding the concept of javascript callbacks with node.js, especially in loops

    hi I am just starting with node.js. I have done a little ajax stuff but nothing too complicated so callbacks are still kind of over my head. I looked at async but all I need is to run a few functions sequentially. I basically have something that pulls some json from an api, creates a new one and then does something with that. obviously i can't just run it because it runs everything at once and has an empty json. mostly they have to go sequentially but if while pulling a json from the api it can pull other json while it's waiting that is fine. I just got confused when putting the callback in a loop. what do I do with the index? i think i have seen some places that use callback inside the loop as kind of a recusive function and don't use for loops at all. simple examples would help alot thanks!

    I'm interested in using the Module Pattern to better organize my future projects. Unfortunately, there are only a few brief tutorials and proof-of-concept examples of the Module Pattern. Using the module pattern, I would like to organize projects into this sort of structure: project.arm.object.method(); Where "project" is my global project name, "arm" is a sub-section or branch of the project, "object" is an individual object, and so on to the methods and properties. However, I'm not sure how I should be declaring and organizing multiple "arms" and "objects" under "project". var project = window.project || {}; project.arm = project.arm || {}; project.arm.object = (function() { var privateVar = "Private contents."; function privateMethod() { alert(privateVar); } return { method: privateMethod }; }()); Are there any best practices or conventions when defining a complex module structure? Should I just declare a new arm/object underneath the last?

  • Scroll to a text position in Javascript

    I have a real-time HTML editor, with a textarea on the left for code entry, and a 'preview' DIV on the right to contain the preview of the code entered. At the moment, when editing the code in the left pane, the preview just sits where it is, so often the part of the code you're editing is not in the visible area of the preview (especially when images are involved). My question is how do I make the preview scroll to show the part of the code that's currently being edited? Here is the page I have so far: http://www.caerphoto.com/rtedit.html You'll notice in the source I have a (currently unused) matchPreview() function that tries to match the scroll position of the preview based on the scroll position of the textarea, but obviously if images or large text are involved the two panes no longer match.

    Hi, I want to show different images in a DIV, the turn of an image depend on a random number. The image name is like 1.gif, 2.gif, .. 6.gif to do that I coded var img = document.createElement("IMG"); img.src = "images/1.gif"; document.getElementById('imgDiv').appendChild(img); but it does not replace the old image how ever it add an another image right in the bottom of first image. syntax for DIV is: <div id="imgDiv" style="width:85px; height:100px; margin:0px 10px 10px 375px;"></div> may u halp me ?

  • Javascript Function for related select elements onSubmit

    I am trying to create (4) Select elements within a form element. Each select element has a different number of options. So if a user click one option on Select #1 and then click another option on Select #2, after hitting submit they will be taken to www.blah.com/option1/option2 page which will display the filtered results. Or they can chose an option from all 4 select menus and be taken to option1/option2/option3/option4 page. The categories are all related .Select #1 is a category, Select #2 is a subcategory of 1, Select #3 is a subcategory of #2 and Select #4 is a subcategory of #3. A great example would be on (LINK) http://www.safavieh.com/rugs (LINK) except only four Select elements. I would also like to add the "Reset" button next to "Submit." I know I need to construct a function in my header and use onSubmit attribute within the form but other than that I am unsure of what's involved so I'm hoping someone could point me in the right direction.     Is there a way to get a list of the exposed functions from a Flash object? For example, you could get a list of all methods in an object by executing: for (var i in object) { if (typeof object[i] == "function") { console.log(i); } } The only issue is that this won't expose any methods registered through the ExternalInterfaces API. I can try and see if the function exists (object['method']) and it tells me it is a function, but I would have to guess every existing method in this manner. NOTE: Obviously, I don't have access to the actionscript.

    I am working on a web page that uses dojo and has a number (6 in my test case, but variable in general) of project widgets on it. I'm invoking dojo.addOnLoad(init), and in my init() function I have these lines: dojo.connect(dijit.byId("project" + 0).InputNode, "onChange", function() {makeMatch(0);}); dojo.connect(dijit.byId("project" + 1).InputNode, "onChange", function() {makeMatch(1);}); dojo.connect(dijit.byId("project" + 2).InputNode, "onChange", function() {makeMatch(2);}); dojo.connect(dijit.byId("project" + 3).InputNode, "onChange", function() {makeMatch(3);}); dojo.connect(dijit.byId("project" + 4).InputNode, "onChange", function() {makeMatch(4);}); dojo.connect(dijit.byId("project" + 5).InputNode, "onChange", function() {makeMatch(5);}); and change events for my project widgets properly invoke the makeMatch function. But if I replace them with a loop: for (var i = 0; i < 6; i++) dojo.connect(dijit.byId("project" + i).InputNode, "onChange", function() {makeMatch(i);}); same makeMatch() function, same init() invocation, same everything else - just rolling my calls up into a loop - the makeMatch function is never called; the objects are not wired. What's going on, and how do I fix it? I've tried using dojo.query, but its behavior is the same as the for loop case.

  • Safari javascript cookie issue

    I've hit a bit of a weird issue in Safari in regards to setting a js cookie. The cookie itself is just a rgb colour value, which gets set using .click(), and is working fine in Chrome and Firefox, yet in Safari the value of the cookie is incomplete, showing up as rgb(193 instead of rgb(193, 184, 76) as the other browsers do.
