  • How can I copy a Virtual Machine on VMWare ESXi 4 while maintaining Thin Provisioning?

    We have an ESXi host we use for testing, which results in a ton of VMs being created and copied on a regular basis. We don't have the storage capacity to use thick provisioned VMs on this server, and have been maintaining the copies using VMWare Converter. But using the converter is an incredibly slow operation which copies the entire contents of the VM over the network several times before actually finishing the copy. Is there a way to simply clone the VM but maintain the thin-provisioning?

  • Can I run a site search like Lucene on a single 2 gig server that's also a web & mysql server

    My site's pages have exceeded the limit of pages for Google Custom Search so many of the results are not found in our site search. I've been reading about Lucene, Nutch, Solr, etc and I'm wondering if I'd have the requirements for running those on a single server that also runs the site (on nginx) and our mysql server. We hae 2 gigs of RAM. I'd appreciate any suggestions for migrating to a new site search.

  • Remote Desktop triggers a loud Beep on local machine - how to shut it up?

    When I remote desktop into a server, I get a loud beep coming out of my local machine whenever certain messageboxes pop up. (An example is to search for something in the Event Log - when the search finds no results, I get a message box accompanied by a loud beep) Annoyingly, the beep still happens even if I have sound turned off locally or the volume right down - it seems to be hooking in to some low level OS-beep mechanism. Any way to turn it off?

    We are running two servers with identical software setup but different hardware. The first one is a VM on VMWare on a normal tower server with dual core xeons, 16 GB RAM and a 7200 RPM drive. The second one is a VM on XenServer on a powerful brand new rack server, with 4 core xeons and shared storage. We are running Dynamics AX 2012 and SQL Server 2008 R2. When I insert 15 000 records into a table on the slow tower server (as a test), it does so in 13 seconds. On the fast server it takes 33 seconds. I re-ran these tests several times with the same results. I have a feeling it is some sort of IO bottleneck, so I ran SQLIO on both. Is this enough to say there is some sort of bottleneck with the shared storage? I need to know if I can take this evidence and say we need to launch an investigation into this.     Suppose my PATH is C:\WINDOWS\system32\;C:\Program Files\Important\ SET NEW_PATH=C:\My\Dir\ SETX PATH "%PATH%;%NEW_PATH%" Results in a path of: C:\WINDOWS\system32\;C:\Program Files\Important\;C:\My\Dir" Notice the quotation mark at the end of the path. It's as though the backslash at the end of %NEW_PATH% escaped the final quote mark. I need the quotation marks because I have spaces in my path, but I don't want backslashes to be interpreted as escape characters. What's the right way to include my PATH in the call to SETX?

I don't think it is in the registry as I've: created a new folder called "_ZYX_Searchable" and added a new toolbar. searched the registry for this string and found no results. I've also searched the entire "c:" drive in case it has created a ".lnk" file somewhere but not found anything. Can any one point me in the right direction? G

  • "Back" command for org-mode

    When I type C-c C-v to see the list of TODOs, or C-/ m to see headlines with a certain tag, org-mode shows me a sparse tree with the results. How do I then go back to seeing the tree the way it was before I issued this command? Note that I haven't changed the file in any way, so this isn't your normal "undo", it's about going back to how org-mode was displaying the tree before.

I can tell it has to do with tracking bug reports and build problems for specific ports but the acronym is baffling me. It may also be used in the Linux world but Googling for "Linux PR" only yields results related to Public Relations. Apparently FreeBSD has PRs and Linux has Public Relations.

  • Dynamics CRM 2011 report view can't be changed?

If I export it to Excel I can tinker around with the results but I would rather that I change the actual report than have users manually change it. I've narrowed down the problem: there are no SQL services installed: Bringing up the Services control panel applet shows me there are no MS SQL services installed. Things I've tried: Repair install of SQL Complete uninstall and reinstall of all MS SQL products. How can I get SQL Server running?

    I'm trying to run the netdiag command to troubleshoot the internet connection but when I run it in cmd I get the following message: 'netdiag' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. Also, I have tried typing "net diag", which gives me a syntax error, but that NET command seems to be something completely different. Searching on google for answers gives me results that deal with Windows Server 2003; I'm on a Windows XP machine.

  • Can see partial encrypted in XP but not in windows 7

    I used truecrypted V.6.3a to partially encrypted (5gb) on my 16gb usb flashdrive on my XP netbook and eveything was fine. However, I don't see the ecrypted partial (5gb) when stick the usb into windows 7-32 bits (desktop). Tried to re-encrypted the usb on windows 7 (desktop) but results are the same. No problem seeing it on XP but windows 7. Thanks
