Validate NSString

I am validating an NSString to ensure that the string does not contain apostrophes. The code I'm using to do this is NSCharacterSet * invalidNumberSet = [NSCharacterSet characterSetWithCharactersInString:@"'"]; NSScanner * scanner = [NSScanner scannerWithString:string]; NSString * scannerResult; [scanner setCharactersToBeSkipped:nil]; [scanner scanUpToCharactersFromSet:invalidNumberSet intoString:&scannerResult]; if(![string isEqualToString:scannerResult]) { return 2; } Returning 2 represents an error. This code works, except for the case where the string is an apostrophe. To get around this issue, I added the following code above the preceding block. if([string isEqualToString:@"'"]); { return 2; } This code is evaluating to true, regardless of the input. I need to either prevent the first block from crashing with the input of ', or get the second block to work. What am I missing?

CSS: can change height by px, but not by %

I am trying to edit the CSS of my Wordpress theme. I have an element whose height I can successfully change from within Element Inspector, if I specify a certain pixel height, e.g. height=100px; But when I try to change the height by specifying a percentage, e.g. height=50%; the element does not change height. Any thoughts on what I'm doing wrong, or how to troubleshoot? None of the parent elements appear to have any height properties.

Hi, Is it possible to get all properties of a css class associated with an element? e.g. .hightligh { font-weight: bold; border: 1px solid red; padding-top:10px; } Lets say the css class "hightlight" is assigned to div element <div class='highlight'></div> Now using JavaScript, I need to iterate through all style properties of css class "highlight" associated with the div element. Basically, I want to treat it as a JavaScript object whose properties can be accessed using iterator or for loop. Thanks in advance

Rails link to PDF version of show.html.erb

Hi Everyone, I have created a pdf version of our rails application using the Prawn plugin, the page in question is part of the Kase model - the link to the kase is /kases/1 and the link to the pdf version is /kases/1.pdf. HTML5 Form: Page Is Reloading Instantly After Restyling (And It Shouldn't Be)

I have a form. I have made it so that if your name is not put in, a red border is put on the name field. That works, BUT...it's for a split second, and then the page reloads. I want the red border to appear, and then stay there. For some reason it's for a split second. Can someone help me make it so the page doesn't reload after displaying the red border? Unable to boot Windows 7 after installing Ubuntu

I have Windows 7 on my machine and then installed Ubuntu 12.04 using a live CD. I can see both Windows 7 and Ubuntu in the grub menu, but when I select Windows 7 it shows a black screen for about 2 seconds and the returns to the Grub menu. But if I select Ubuntu it's working fine. While going through RFC1321, I came across the following paragraph: This step uses a 64-element table T[1 ... 64] constructed from the sine function. Let T[i] denote the i-th element of the table, which is equal to the integer part of 4294967296 times abs(sin(i)), where i is in radians. The elements of the table are given in the appendix. From what I understood from paragraph, it means T[i] = Integer_part(4294967296 times abs(sin(i))) We know the following is true for all x: 0 <= sin(x) <= 1 Since i is an integer, abs(sin(i)) may very well be 0 for all values of i. That means table will contain all zero values ( 4294967296 times 0 is 0). In the implementation, this is not true. Why is this so? Appendix contains just the raw values after calculation. It does not show how it is derived from the sine function.

Gnome Shell segfault in libglib-2.0

I have been using Ubuntu 11.10 + Gnome Shell with a Nvidia card, but now I've moved it to my new PC which has an ATI card, at first it wasn't booting but I installed the driver from amd.com and then it worked. Anyway my problem is that gnome-shell is crashing, mostly when I try to start a VirtualBox machine (it happened in other times but I don't remember what I was doing). Sometimes gnome-shell respawns and it continue working but sometimes it doesn't so I have to restart lightdm and lose all the windows I was using. Adding UCM as a search source in Windows Explorer

A customer recently pointed out to me that Windows 7 supports federated search within Windows Explorer. This means you can perform searches to external sources such as Google, Flickr, YouTube, etc right from within Explorer. While we do have the Desktop Integration Suite which offers searching within Explorer, I thought it would be interesting to look into this method which would not require any client software to implement. Basically, federated searching hooks up in Windows Explorer through the OpenSearch protocol. A Search Connector Descriptor file is run and it installs the search provider. The file is a .osdx file which is an OpenSearch Description document. It describes the search provider you are hooking up to along with the URL for the query. If those results can come back as an RSS or ATOM feed, then you're all set. So the first step is to install the RSS Feeds component from the UCM Samples page on OTN. If you're on 11g, I've found the RSS Feeds works just fine on that version too. Next, you want to perform a Quick Search with a particular search term and then copy the RSS link address for that search result. Here is what an example URL might looks like: http://server:16200/cs/idcplg?IdcService=GET_SCS_FEED&feedName=search_results&QueryText=%28+%3cqsch%3eoracle%3c%2fqsch %3e+%29&SortField=dInDate&SortOrder=Desc&ResultCount=20&SearchQueryFormat= Universal&SearchProviders=server& Now you want to create a new text file and start out with this information: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><OpenSearchDescription xmlns:ms-ose="http://schemas.microsoft.com/opensearchext/2009/"> <ShortName></ShortName> <Description></Description> <Url type="application/rss+xml" template=""/> <Url type="text/html" template=""/> </OpenSearchDescription> Enter a ShortName and Description. PowerShell Try Catch Finally

PowerShell Try Catch Finally I am a relative novice to PowerShell and tried (pun intended) to use the “Try Catch Finally” in my scripts. Alas the structure that we love and use in C# (or even – shudder of shudders - in VB) does not always work in PowerShell. It turns out that it works only when the error is a terminating error (whatever that means). Well, you can turn all your errors to the terminating kind by simply setting - $ErrorActionPreference = "Stop", And later resetting it back to “Continue”, which is its normal setting. Now, the lazy approach is to start all your scripts with: $ErrorActionPreference = "Stop" And ending all of them with: $ErrorActionPreference = "Continue" But this opens you to trouble because should your script have an error that you neglected to catch (it even happens to me!), your session will now have all its errors as “terminating”. Obviously this is not a good thing, so instead let’s put these two setups in the beginning of each Try block and in the Finally block as seen below: That’s All Folks!!

CCNet TFS Migration - Dealing with left over folders

Im currently in the process of migrating our many BizTalk projects from MKS source control to TFS. While we will be using TFS for work item tracking and source control etc we will be continuing to use Cruise Control for continuous integration although im updating this to CCNet 1.5 at the same time. Ill post a few things as much as a reminder to myself about some of the problems we come across. Problem After the first build of our code the next time a build is triggered an error is encountered by the TFS source control block refreshing the source code. For some reason the source control block when it does a full refresh of the code does not get rid of this folder and then complains thats a problem and fails the build. Interestingly there are other folders created by the build which are deleted fine. My assumption is that this if something to do with the file adapter polling the directory. However note that we have not had this problem with other source control blocks in the past. To workaround this I have added a prebuild task to the ccnet.config file to delete this folder before the source control block is executed. clear explanation sought: throw() and stack unwinding

I'm not a programmer but have learned a lot watching others. I am writing wrapper classes to simplify things with a really technical API that I'm working with. Its routines return error codes, and I have a function that converts those to strings: static const char* LibErrString(int errno); For uniformity I decided to have member of my classes throw an exception when an error is encountered. I created a class: struct MyExcept : public std::exception { const char* errstr_; const char* what() const throw() {return errstr_;} MyExcept(const char* errstr) : errstr_(errstr) {} }; Then, in one of my classes: class Foo { public: void bar() { int err = SomeAPIRoutine(...); if (err != SUCCESS) throw MyExcept(LibErrString(err)); // otherwise... } }; The whole thing works perfectly: if SomeAPIRoutine returns an error, a try-catch block around the call to Foo::bar catches a standard exception with the correct error string in what(). Then I wanted the member to give more information: void Foo::bar() { char adieu[128]; int err = SomeAPIRoutine(...); if (err != SUCCESS) { std::strcpy(adieu,"In Foo::bar... "); std::strcat(adieu,LibErrString(err)); throw MyExcept((const char*)adieu); } // otherwise... } However, when SomeAPIRoutine returns an error, the what() string returned by the exception contains only garbage. It occurred to me that the problem could be due to adieu going out of scope once the throw is called. I changed the code by moving adieu out of the member definition and making it an attribute of the class Foo. After this, the whole thing worked perfectly: a try-call block around a call to Foo::bar that catches an exception has the correct (expanded) string in what(). Finally, my question: what exactly is popped off the stack (in sequence) when the exception is thrown in the if-block when the stack "unwinds?" As I mentioned above, I'm a mathematician, not a programmer. I could use a really lucid explanation of what goes onto the stack (in sequence) when this C++ gets converted into running machine code.

Avoiding Flicker with JQuery Tabs

I am a huge fan of JQuery because it seems like every time I want to do something it has a plugin that already does it. Adding a tabbed interface to a web page was always quite an annoyance, but JQuery UI offers a pretty descent tabs solution (click here to see it). If you read through the documentation, you'll find that you can create a tabbed interface by calling the tabs() method on an element containing an unordered list. The only problem that I've experienced with the method is that on slower machines you can see the unordered list render out in its original state before being updated into the final tabbed interface. A quick way to fix that issues is to set the CSS display property of the element to none, then call the show() method directly after calling the tabs() method. Do backlinks to blocked content add value?

We've been debating the following SEO question at our office: If you block bot access to a page either via robots.txt or on-page noindex metadata, does that negate the value of any backlinks to that page? We have a client who wants to block some event booking form pages from being indexed as each booking form page has a unique URL parameter and the pages are "clogging up" the Google index; however lots of websites link to those booking form pages and we wouldn't want to lose the value of those links. Any opinions welcomed.

2d libgdx: runtime level generation

I have encountered a problem during my first game development: I thought of a Array<Ground> groundArray that does groundArray.add when a new ground will appear on the screen, and removes oldest ground when it will no longer be seen, if player only moves to the right, like in flappy bird. The perfect structure would be a queue for such a mechanic, but libgdx doesnt have one. Using libgdx's Array is not intuitive too - i have to reverse the order of elements. It has a method pop() that removes the last element, but no such method to use on the first element. What are my options here? extend Array class and add something? writing my own queue-like class?

Role based access control in Oracle VM using Enterprise Manager 12c

Enterprise Managers let’s you control any element in the environment and define which users can do what on each element. We will show here an example on how to set up RBAC (Role Base Access Control) for Oracle VM using Enterprise Manager, this will be a very simplified explanation to help you get going. For more comprehensive explanations please refer to the Enterprise Manager User Guide. OK, first some basic Enterprise Manager terminology: Target – any element in the environment is a target – server, pool, zone, VM etc. Administrators – these are the Enterprise Manager users who can login to the platform. Roles – roles are privilege profiles which could be applied to Administrators. The first step will be to discover the virtual environment and bring it in to Enterprise Manager, this process is simple and can be done in two ways: Work on your Oracle VM manager, set it up until you feel comfortable and then register it in Enterprise Manager Use Enterprise Manager and build it all from there. In both cases we will be able to see the same picture from Oracle VM and from Enterprise Manager, any change made in one will be reflected in the other. Oracle VM Manager: Enterprise Manager: Once you have your virtual environment set up in Enterprise Manager it is time to start associating VMs with users (or Administrators as they are called in Enterprise Manager). Enterprise Manager allows us to connect to multiple different identity services and import users from them but the simplest way to add Administrators is just go to setup->security->Administrators and create new Administrator. The creation wizard will walk you through several stages and allow you to assign role(s) to your newly created Administrator, using roles can really shorten the process if done multiple times. When you get to “Target Privileges” stage, scroll down to the bottom to the “Target Privileges” section. In this section you can add targets (virtual machine in our case) and define the type of privileges you would like to assign to the Administrator which you are creating. In this example I chose one of the VMs and granted full privileges to the newly created Administrator. Administrator creation wizard "Target Privileges": Now when you login as the newly created administrator, you will only see the VM that was assign to you and will be able to have full control over it. That’s it, simple and straight forward, Enterprise Manager offers many more things which I skipped here but the point is that if you need role based access control Enterprise Manager can give it to you in a very easy way. Oh and one more thing, virtualization management in Enterprise Manager has no license cost, sweet.
