    In Firefox 3.6, IE7 and Opera 10 on Windows, this HTML has an odd behavior: <html><head></head> <style> span { font-family: monospace; background-color: green; } span.b { font-weight: bold; } </style> <body> <span>Text</span><span class="b">Text</span><span>Text</span> </body> </html> The bold span in the middle is shifted down by one pixel. That doesn't happen for other fonts. Why is that? How can I fix it?

    Greetings my wonderful StackOverflow family :) I grew up using Windows and switched to OSX as a Computer Science major in College. I've recently started my first real software developer job, and have a ThinkPad and Windows XP for developing ASP.NET / MS SQL applications (Visual Studio 2008). Question: Basically, I am wondering if any developers out there have had real success creating ASP.NET applications on a Mac using a VM? I've been fighting with Parallels 5 all week and finally have Windows 7 and VS 2008 running but my hot-keys are all screwed up. Is it worth the work to keep beating this thing into submission? Should I give up? Should I give Mono a try instead? Thanks Folks, I can't wait to see what you all think!

    I'm using the Drupal Quiz module, and have setup some basic quizzes and stuff like that. However some further customization is required, involving more than 1 question per page, and a multi-type answer in this type of format: Question 1: Describe 4 things you did last summer a) [ short answer space - text field ] b) "I wept" c) "My whole family died so I learned self reliance" d) "I got another xbox" Question 2: Describe 2 things you hate about yourself a) "My arms are way shorter than my legs" b) "I was born without human emotion" So I guess in two parts, how to show multiple questions per page, and then how to allow multiple text fields for answers. Oh and this quiz is not graded, it's like a self assessment. Thanks!

    Open Firmware device tree gives no clue what device might decode at physical address 0x80000000 to 0x8008200 on a G4 New World Macintosh. The mmu has three adjacent Virtual=Real translations for that block. They are the only address translations reported between the top or physical dram at 20000000 and the start of the PCI bridges at f0000000. (A possible clue is that frame-buffer-addr is reported as 9c008000 by Open Firmware, and that is not in the reported translation table either). I believe the architecture has been around since about 1999.

  • 8051 microcontroller kit recommendation?

    I'm a first year Computer Science student looking to get started with development for micro-controllers. I'd like to use the 8051, as it's common as dirt, and is used frequently in the real world. During my junior or senior year, I'll be taking a PIC micro-controller based embedded design class, so I'd rather not do PIC now; otherwise, I'll be fairly bored during that course. Most commercial kits I see are for the AVR or PIC series of microprocessors. I'm just looking for something with decent development tools, documentation, and enough add-ons to keep my novice self occupied for the summer. Any recommendations for an 8051 family kit? Thanks!

    I am trying to use checkinstall to build a package from source code. However, when i run checkinstall , it ask : /root/rpmbuild has no source directory, please write the path to the rpm source directory tree. i am running on fedora 12 and system was installed through kickstart via repository of dvd of fc12. I was not aware of the rpm source directory during the installation. so how can i check whether rpm source has been installed or not. if not, how to make the rpm source directory so that i can please the checkinstall and build the package successfully. or can i bypass it? thanks a lot

(Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services) (yes, there really are two dots) Does anyone know how to resolve this so I can restore the backup?     Hello, I have a folder tree, like this (it's only an example, it will be deeper in my real case): C:\test | +---folder1 | foo bar.txt | foobar.txt | +---folder2 | foo bar.txt | foobar.txt | \---folder3 foo bar.txt foobar.txt My files have one or more spaces in the name and I need to perform a command on them, so I am interested in foo bar.txt but not in foobar.txt. I tried (inside a batch file): for /r test %%f in (foo bar.txt) do if exist %%f echo %%f where the command is the simple echo. It does not work because the space is skipped and I get no output. This works but it is not what I need: for /r test %%f in (foobar.txt) do if exist %%f echo %%f It prints: C:\test\folder1\foobar.txt C:\test\folder2\foobar.txt C:\test\folder3\foobar.txt I tried using the quotation mark (") but it does not work: for /r test %%f in ("foo bar.txt") do if exist %%f echo %%f It does not work because the quotation mark is still included in the output: C:\test\folder1\"foo bar.txt" C:\test\folder2\"foo bar.txt" C:\test\folder3\"foo bar.txt"

    How would one (download and) convert HTML-structures into EPUB (or any other format suitable for the Sony PRS-505 reader)? My question is not how to convert a single HTML file into an EPUB file, as this is easy; what I mean is, I have some books I want to read on my Sony PRS-505 and these books are most often online in HTML format but withmany interlinked pages and there is one page with the list of contents, like this example http://www.edge.org/documents/ThirdCulture/d-Contents.html ... or sometimes it's a little bit more complicated as the list of contents only lists the chapters, and inside the chapters there are links to sub-chapters, like in this example: http:SLASHSLASHwww.hyw.com/Books/WargamesHandbook/Contents.htm (I can only post 1 hyperlink now b/c of user restriction, so this is why there is SLASHSLASH instead of //) I want to convert these examples and several others, with correct chapters, images and some acceptable formatting etc, so basically I want to make a proper ebook out of the HTML-tree.     I'm trying to create some web test with selenium IDE. But I have one problem when I click on a javascript link it opened a new tab. I need perform some check on this new tab but I can't get he focus that is still in main page. I tried several things that I'ad search on google without succeed to do it works.     Here's a story: User A should be able to upload an image. User A should be able to set a privacy. ("Public" or "Private"). User B should not be able to access "Private" images of User A. I'm planning to user Paperclip for dealing with uploads. If I store the images under "RAILS_ROOT/public/images", anyone who could guess the name of the files might access the files. (e.g., accessing http://example.com/public/images/uploads/john/family.png ) I need to show the images using img tags, so I cannot place a file except public. How can I ensure that images of a user or group is not accessible by others?

  • MongoDB on FreeBSD

    We are currently using MongoDB 2.0.0 on MacOS but our servers are running FreeBSD. The most recent port of MongoDB is the 1.8.3 version. I have tried to compile the 2.0.0 by hand but I came across errors that I didn't manage to fix. I came across on the Internet a few old resources which are saying that MongoDB does not run well on FreeBSD mainly for performance issue (memory mapped files). Is that true ? Does it mean we have to switch our server to another OS ? Thanks for your opinions!     Hi, Can somebody tell me how to rename the DB server instance name and a DB name in SQL Server 2005? Right Now I Have SERVER/OLDNAME -- oldnameDB I want to change the server instance and also change the db name. I have tried: EXEC sp_renamedb 'oldName', 'newName' and that has changed the dbname as it appers in the tree directory. But, when I do "select @@servername" it is the old name. Also, the MDF and LDF files are still the old name. How do change instance and db names as a clean sweep across the server? Thanks.

    I have a DIV with position:absolute inside another with position:relative. But the inside DIV is flowing out of the other and positioning it self based on the browser not the containing DIV. Any ideas why this is happening?   • Will Hotmail DELIVER to spam-friendly ISP?

    I have a user who is using Hotmail to communicate with one of our suppliers. Recently, Hotmail started bouncing emails to that address (while other ISPs are working fine.) Hotmail bounce messages contain very little details. Investigating, I found that the supplier's ISP has appeared on a blacklist of ISPs who do not do enough to prevent spamming from their users. (Note: Neither my user nor the supplier are mass-mailing.) In the circumstances, I can understand Hotmail declining to accept emails from the host, or accepting them but being quick to mark them as spam. However, I am surprised that they might refuse delivery. Does this sound plausible to you, or am I barking up the wrong tree?

    In Rails 2.x you can use validations to make sure you have a unique combined value like this: validates_uniqueness_of :husband, :scope => :wife In the corresponding migration it could look like this: add_index :family, [:husband, :wife], :unique => true This would make sure the husband/wife combination is unique in the database. Now, in Rails 3 the validation syntax changed and the scope attribute seems to be gone. It now looks like: validates :husband, :presence => true Any idea how I can achieve the combined validation in Rails 3? The Rails 2.x validations still work in Rails 3 so I can still use the first example but it looks so "old", are there better ways?

    I'd like to count the number of keys in a map in Pig. I could write a UDF to do this, but I was hoping there would be an easier way. data = LOAD 'hbase://MARS1' USING org.apache.pig.backend.hadoop.hbase.HBaseStorage( 'A:*', '-loadKey true -caching=100000') AS (id:bytearray, A_map:map[]); In the code above, I want to basically build a histogram of id and how many items in column family A that key has. In hoping, I tried c = FOREACH data GENERATE id, COUNT(A_map); but that unsurprisingly didn't work. Or, perhaps someone can suggest a better way to do this entirely. If I can't figure this out soon I'll just write a Java MapReduce job or a Pig UDF.

    I have a network drive mapped to a share on a Window Server 2003. I have a shortcut to this drive stored in my Windows 7 favorites. When I double click the shortcut and then rename a file on the drive, if the file is longer than 8 chars or contains spaces then I get this error The drive that this file or folder is stored on does not allow long file names, or names containing blanks or any of the following characters:... If I get to the network drive by click on it in the tree under computer then it works fine. Is there a way to get round this?

    Hi everyone. I'd like to know, please, the correct way to write the symbols that the C family of languages use to begin and end comments. Before you all respond "a slash followed by an asterisk", I mean what's the correct way to write them on paper. (IE, How many points should the asterisk have? What angle should the slash be? etc) Everything I need so I can sit down and draw correct comment start and end symbols. Please note, I'm looking for the correct standard way. If there is no industry standard, please respond with "there is no standard" and I will accept that answer.
