• How do I run shell script "convert" in OSX Mavericks

  I have been successfully converting jpgs to pdf in Mountain Lion with: do shell script "/System/Library/Printers/Libraries/./convert -f " & "\"" & _posix & "\"" & " -o " & "\"" & _newPosix & "\"" I recently moved to Mavericks and now get this error: -- error "sh: /System/Library/Printers/Libraries/./convert: No such file or directory" number 127 The error message is right - the directory does not exist under Mavericks. Can anyone suggest a replacement for this code?

• OSX pdf-kit vs Linux poppler or pdf/x

  I keep reading and hearing that the reason that there is no good pdf editing software for Linux is that the libraries are not as well developed. That is why there is no equivalent for Skim or Preview in Linux. I had a look a the pdf-kit documentation and the poppler documentation and they looked very similar to my admittedly non-technical view. Could someone explain to me why the OSX libraries (eg) are so much easier to write projects like Skim in than the linux ones. I'm not sure if the same applies to OSX projects to NVAlt, but it seems to be a common theme - I'd just like to understand what is behind the thesis that OSX is easier to code these projects in, and what would be involved in changing it. (I'm not disputing the value of Okular or Evince and the like, just noting that they don't have the richness of functionality of Skim, Preview or even things like Goodreader on the Ipad).

  Take for example the following regex match. preg_match('!^publisher/([A-Za-z0-9\-\_]+)/([0-9]+)/([0-9]{4})-(january|february|march|april|may|june|july|august|september|october|november|december):([0-9]{1,2})-([0-9]{1,2})/([A-Za-z0-9\-\_]+)/([0-9]+)(/page-[0-9]+)?$!', 'publisher/news/1/2010-march:03-23/test_title/1/page-1', $matches); print_r($matches); It produces the following: Array ( [0] => publisher/news/1/2010-march:03-23/test_title/1/page-1 [1] => news [2] => 1 [3] => 2010 [4] => march [5] => 03 [6] => 23 [7] => test_title [8] => 1 [9] => /page-1 ) However as the last match is optional it can also work with matching the following "publisher/news/1/2010-march:03-23/test_title/1". My problem is that I want to be able to match (/page-[0-9]+) if it exists, but match only the page number so "publisher/news/1/2010-march:03-23/test_title/1/page-1" would match like so: Array ( [0] => publisher/news/1/2010-march:03-23/test_title/1/page-1 [1] => news [2] => 1 [3] => 2010 [4] => march [5] => 03 [6] => 23 [7] => test_title [8] => 1 [9] => 1 ) I've tried the following regex '!^publisher/([A-Za-z0-9\-\_]+)/([0-9]+)/([0-9]{4})-(january|february|march|april|may|june|july|august|september|october|november|december):([0-9]{1,2})-([0-9]{1,2})/([A-Za-z0-9\-\_]+)/([0-9]+)/?p?a?g?e?-?([0-9]+)?$!' This works, however it will also match "publisher/news/1/2010-march:03-23/test_title/1/1". I have no idea to perform a match but not have it come back in the matches? Is it possible in a single regex?

One starts at the root (selecting some node as the root in the graph case) and explores as far as possible along each branch before backtracking. So is BFS? Regex Buddy uses the term "catastrophic backtracking" if you do not limit the scope of your Regexes. It seems to be too wide umbrella-term. So: how do you define "Backtracking" GRAPH-theoretically? what is "backtracking" in BFS and DFS?

  Hi All, I'm having a bit of trouble with regex's (C#, ASP.NET), and I'm pretty sure I'm doing something fundamentally wrong. My task is to bind a dynamically created gridview to a datasource, and then iterate through a column in the grid, looking for the string "A&I". An example of what the data in the cell (in template column) looks like is: Name: John Doe Phone: 555-123-1234 Email: [email protected] Dept: DHS-A&I-MRB Here's the code I'm using to find the string value: foreach(GridViewRow gvrow in gv.Rows) { Match m = Regex.Match(gvrow.Cells[6].Text,"A&I"); if(m.Success) { gvrow.ForeColor = System.Drawing.Color.Red; } } I'm not having any luck with any of these variations: "A&I" "[A][&][I]" But when I strictly user "&", the row does turn red.   Im trying to filter rows based on a column say c1 that contains boolean values. I want to show only rows that have 'true' in c1. I looked up the examples in http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/components/table.html#sorting. The example uses a regex filter. Is there any way I can use boolean values to filter rows? Then I use the following code to grab the and put it in a string variable. However, I have tried multiple regex statements to replace the new line character with "" but nothing I have tried has worked...   I have a question field with a list of allowed characters : A-Z,0-9,colon (:), question mark (?), comma(,), hyphen(-), apostrophe ('). I have the regex which works fine, in the fashion : $question->addValidator('regex', true, array(<regular expresstion>)) The default error message is something like ''' does not match against pattern '' I want to write a custom error message that says ' is not allowed in this field' Is there a simple way to do it using the existing zend components that I'm missing? Is writing a custom validator the only way to achieve what I'm trying to achieve? If yes, how do I write a custom validator (I looked at the documentation and didn't quite understand how I can customize the error messages) If there is any other way, I'd most appreciate that input too. This works great unless there are nulls in the dataset. I tried to compensate for the nulls, but the RDLC file generates an error message that it can't display the subreport. I'm just thinking it would be nice to reformulate that query so it could be called like SELECT * FROM dbo.table1 WHERE column1 REGEXLIKE '[0-9][A-Z]' Is it possible to create new comparison operators using CLR Code. (I'm guessing from my brief glance around the web that the answer is NO, but no harm asking)

• Globbing with MinGW on Windows

  I have an application built with the MinGW C++ compiler that works something like grep - acommand looks something like this: myapp -e '.*' *.txt where the thing that comes after the -e switch is a regex, and the thing after that is file name pattern. It seems that MinGW automatically expands (globs in UNIX terms) the command line so my regex gets mangled. I can turn this behaviour off, I discovered, by setting the global variable _CRT_glob to zero. This will be fine for bash and other sensible shell users, as the shell will expand the file pattern. For MS cmd.exe users however, it looks like I will have to expand the file pattern myself. So my question - does anyone know of a globbing library (or facility in MinGW) to do partial command line expansion? I'm aware of the _setargv feature of the Windows CRT, but that expands the full command line. Please note I've seen this question, but it really does not address partial expansion.

  Problem: I'm trying to use a library named DCMTK which used some other external libraries ( zlib, libtiff, libpng, libxml2, libiconv ). I've downloaded these external libraries (*.LIB & *.h files ) from the same website. Do not use the /NODEFAULTLIB workaround, because strange software crashes may follow. Fix the problem! DCMTK is by default compiled with the "Multithreaded" or "Multithreaded Debug" code generation option (the latter for Debug mode). Either change the project settings of all of your code to use these code generation options, or change the code generation for all DCMTK modules and re-compile. MFC users beware: DCMTK should be compiled with "Multithreaded DLL" or "Multithreaded DLL Debug" settings if you want to link the libraries into an MFC application. What Code Generation Options? WTH are they? Documentation specifically warns us not to use /NODEFAULTLIB workaround. (example /NODEFAULTLIB :msvcrt ). Why? How would I cause troubles? what exactly is it? Please explain the last point in the documentation for MFC users. Because I'm going to use MFC later in this project. Explain Why should we do it?   I'm writing a custom dice rolling parser (snicker if you must) in python. Basically, I want to use standard math evaluation but add the 'd' operator: #xdy sum = 0 for each in range(x): sum += randInt(1, y) return sum So that, for example, 1d6+2d6+2d6-72+4d100 = (5)+(1+1)+(6+2)-72+(5+39+38+59) = 84 I was using regex to replace all 'd's with the sum and then using eval, but my regex fell apart when dealing with parentheses on either side. Is there a faster way to go about this than implementing my own recursive parsing? Perhaps adding an operator to eval?

• Modifying the initrd.img to run additional binaries in a PXE booted RHEL 6

  I am trying to add additional automation to our existing RHEL 6 (or Oralce's implementation thereof) PXE install process by running a script in the %pre section of my kickstart config that call hpacucli, HP's raid device configuration binary. My approach has been to modify the PXE served initrd.img. I've unpacked the initrd.img and copied in the required libraries, binaries, and scripts but when the system boots using the modified initrd.img, the modified /lib (and /lib_64) are moved aside to /lib_old and /lib is linked to the /mnt/runtime/lib. How can I change this configuration so that the /lib is not moved (unlikely) or required libraries are available in the runtime /mnt/runtime/lib? To test and confirm this I've been able to get the install process to move to the 6th virtual console, which allows me to see errors, and then open a shell (a useful debugging mechanism). %pre exec /dev/tty6 2 /dev/tty6 chvt 6 /bin/sh

• C#: Efficiently search a large string for occurences of other strings

  Hi, I'm using C# to continuously search for multiple string "keywords" within large strings, which are = 4kb. This code is constantly looping, and sleeps aren't cutting down CPU usage enough while maintaining a reasonable speed. The bog-down is the keyword matching method. I've found a few possibilities, and all of them give similar efficiency. 1) http://tomasp.net/articles/ahocorasick.aspx -I do not have enough keywords for this to be the most efficient algorithm. 2) Regex. Using an instance level, compiled regex. -Provides more functionality than I require, and not quite enough efficiency. 3) String.IndexOf. -I would need to do a "smart" version of this for it provide enough efficiency. Looping through each keyword and calling IndexOf doesn't cut it. Does anyone know of any algorithms or methods that I can use to attain my goal?

For escaping HTML characters I used: txtOut.Text = Regex.Replace(txtIn.Text, @"[\u0080-\uFFFF]", m => @"&#" + ((int)m.Value[0]).ToString() + ";"); But I'm not sure how to convert the match to the correct hexadecimal format that JS uses. For example this code: txtOut.Text = Regex.Replace(txtIn.Text, @"[\u0080-\uFFFF]", m => @"%" + String.Format("{0:x}", ((int)m.Value[0]))); Returns "%a9%221a" for "©v" instead of "%C2%A9%E2%88%9A". It looks like I need to split the string up into bytes or something. Edit: This is for a windows app, the only items available in System.Web are: AspNetHostingPermission, AspNetHostingPermissionAttribute, and AspNetHostingPermissionLevel.

Is there a more advanced tutorial? Has any one though to build one to help uses take their VIM skills to the next level. Most tutorial and cheat-sheet sites out there for vim only show commands but not necessarily specific uses and examples. Is there an advance tutorial out there?
