  • FBReader: How do I get it to display partial images?

    I've been using FBReader so far for reading e-books, but my problem with it is how it handles images. Whenever there's an image, it isn't displayed until all of it can be displayed (i.e. it won't show if you haven't scrolled down far enough) and scrolling isn't smooth because the image is treated as one line. Is there a way to change this so that it displays the partially visible images? If there is not a way to change this, I am open to software suggestions to use as an alternative (I'm using Linux). I have already tried Calibre, but I find that it's too bloated. It takes ages to start up, and I don't want a directory for all my e-books...

  • Is there a free tool/package that can monitor web traffic and display URLS accessed? [closed]

    I couldn't find a similar question but then maybe I am searching for the wrong terms. A few years ago I used a router like device, I'm pretty sure it was a SonicWall, that did this on a clients site. Basically all traffic would be routed through this device and it allowed the manager/administrator to inspect web usage of the workers, determine how often certain resources were accessed and block them if necessary (much like content filter). It showed reports based on domain name reached etc. Facebbok.com, Bebo.com and so on. It also displayed the usual IP traffic information etc. it was a UTM also. I have tried Endian firewall, with it's NTOP install, but I don't think that will show URLs browsed. Maybe I just haven't found it in NTOP yet? I need this to troubleshoot connection and traffic issue at my home, with about twenty devices/users so didn't want to buy a dedicated solution and have spare hardware to use a community product.

  • How to display recently installed programs and when they were installed?

    I have a Windows XP and I just installed about 12 new programs. Big mistake! Before I installed these programs, my internet connection was running great. But now after installing and restarting my laptop, the internet is crawling. How can I see what was changed? Hint: prior to installing these 12 programs, I installed IE version 8. So probably if I removed that it would fix it, but the problem is I need IE in order for my SQL/C# web application to work properly.

  • Why my browsers display XML files as blank pages?

    Every time I open an XML file, all I get is blank page instead of tag tree. The file itself is correct and loads okay, I can see it via View Source or in the Firebug. I've tried turning off all my addons and tried running Firefox in safe mode, but the problem was not solved. I'm guessing that I've messed up my configuration somehow and Firefox now tries to render XML files as HTML ones. I've tried googling, but with no success. Help, please?   • How Can I Not Show the Green Download Progress Display for Google Chrome in the Windows Taskbar?

    I use Windows 7 and when downloading with Google Chrome the icon in the taskbar has a partially green background that indicates the download progress. Is there a way to not show this green status indicator in the Windows taskbar? I find it distracting when I am working. It seems there is no option to disable it. I do not want to hide the icon entirely but rather just not show the green background. Is this possible? I have searched for an option or setting to change this but there seems to be surprisingly little information about this on the internet. I imagine that others would also appreciate it if there is some solution for this. Thanks.

  • arp "who-has tell" on cloned machine

    I have a urgent problem to solve today, but I'm lost. Please help. I've cloned a Virtual Machine hosted on VM Ware ESXi 4.1 The OS is now Ubuntu Server 12.04 LTS, but at the time of cloning it was 10.04 LTS. I fixed the MAC address manually inside /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules. It is a known problem on Ubuntu. I had to remove the old MAC address and set the new one as eth0. Everything seems to work fine, except ARP. My provider OVH sent me a warning to resolve it today (this is the second day) or they will block my IP! The log contains many lines like this: Tue Jun 5 01:04:29 2012 : arp who-has 178.32.136.212 tell 178.32.136.224 where .224 is the cloned server that is causing problems, and .212 is the cloned one. arp -na returns: ? (178.33.230.254) at 00:07:b4:00:00:02 [ether] on eth0 ? (178.32.136.212) at 00:50:56:09:8e:f1 [ether] on eth0 The first IP is the ESXi machine. The second one should not be there.   • Outlook 2003: How to display my own messages in conversation view?

    When I select View-Arrange By-Conversation in Outlook 2003, the messages I sent myself are not shown in the message threads (unlike the conversation view in say, Gmail). To show my own messages I have to go to the Sent Items folder, if not someone has replied to one of my messages and included my original text. I'd like to allow the QA team access to the Nagios UI and i want them to be able to view only monitors which are related to their work. More than that, these servers which i want the QA team to monitor should be displayed for the admins group as well (as it is configured at the moment) in addition to the QA team. Is that doable?

  • How do I correctly display special characters in my Firefox browser?

    (Firefox 3.6.13 on Windows XP) Every once in a while I notice an odd character on certain web pages when browsing the web. It is a outline of a box with a 4-digit number inside. And example of a page that has these characters is: http://aws.amazon.com/ec2/#highlights After each section heading (Elastic, Completely Controlled, ...) I see a box with the number "0096" inside. I looked at the cached version on Google, and google has &ndash; in it's place, so I'm guessing I should be seeing a dash there instead of the box with the numbers in it. I have tried changing the character encoding in Firefox but haven't been able to find one that shows these characters correctly. Is there a way to allow Firefox to view these characters?     I am looking improve the efficiency of an Access 2010 database by using a web server with images and only storing the hyperlink source (i.e, http://www.images.com/images/image1.jpg) in the table. I know that one can save images as "attachements", using a "blob" object type, but when you're dealing with thousands of images, queries are bogged down, and performance suffers. So in short, is there are relatively simple way of displaying images on MS Access forms with a source that is a hyperlink address (storing files locally and using filepaths is not preferable).   • I'm trying to setup Xvfb to run an GUI app on a remote server with no display

    I have a 3rd party java app that I need to run on a remote server. Unfortunately, the app is designed for the desktop and assumes a GUI is available. The thing is I would like to leave this app running on the remote server without having to tie up my desktop machine with a persistent VNC connection to the remote machine. I'm trying to setup Xvfb on the remote machine so emulate a graphical environment, connect to the remote machine via VNC to launch the app and configure parameters and then log off and let it run. Here's what I have so far: I have ubuntu 11.04 server apt-get install xvfb apt-get install fluxbox apt-get install x11vnc Xvfb :1 -screen 0 1024x768x16 & fluxbox & At this point I run into a problem because it gives a very undescriptive error: Cannot connect to server. How do I know if the server is running and that it's running properly?

    I have an ASUS ENGT440/DI1GD5 video adapter which has three output ports: D-Sub (HD-15), DVI and HDMI. I am using both the D-Sub and DVI ports, but my main monitor is connected to the DVI output. Everything works fine except for which monitor is designated the console during boot. The video adapter seems to prefer the D-Sub output for the console. When both the VGA and DVI monitors are connected, then the VGA monitor always becomes the console which displays the motherboard logo, POST information and booting progress. When only the DVI monitor is connected, then it becomes the console as desired. How do I make the video adapter always use the DVI output (instead of the VGA port) for the console while booting?

  • How can I turn off display resolution auto-detection in Windows Vista?

    At work I've 4 different computers connected using a keyboard/video/mouse switch. Quite often when I switch to windows vista the resolution is totally wrong and I need to get the screen properties dialog, change to another wrong resolution (because the fun part is that the apparently current resolution listed in the dialog is the correct one) then re-switch to the correct resolution. I would really like to just shut that broken resolution autodetection code off. Is there a way to disable screen resolution autodetection in Windows Vista?

  • How can I get (g)Vim to display the character count of the current file?

    I like to write tutorials and articles for a programming forum I frequent. This forum has a character limit per post. I've used Notepad++ in the past to write posts and it keeps a live character count in the status bar. I'm starting to use gVim more and I really don't want to go back to Notepad++ at this point, but it is very useful to have this character count. If I go over the count, I usually end up pasting the post into Notepad++ so I can see when I've trimmed enough to get by the limit. I've seen suggestions that :set ruler would help, but this only gives the character count via the current column index on the current line. This would be great if I didn't use paragraph breaks, but I'm sure you'd agree that reading several thousand characters in one paragraph is not comfortable. I read the help and thought that rulerformat would work, but after looking over the statusline format it uses I didn't see anything that gives a character count for the current buffer. I've seen that there are plugins that add this, but I'm still dipping my toes into gVim and I'm not sure I want to load random plugins before I understand what they do. I'd prefer to use something built in to vim, but if it doesn't exist it doesn't exist. What should I do to accomplish my goal? If it involves a plugin, do you use it and how well does it work?

  • Can I filter multiple column headers to display subheadings of each in Excel?

    I can't seem to find this anywhere... it may not even be possible without coding? I have a spreadsheet containing more than one heading in a single column. These headings are identified with blue background and white font. Each of these headings have items listed below them. These "subheadings" are smaller, auto-black font and no fill background. Currently I have to scroll down the spreadsheet to view all headers and their contents. How do I create a filter that would allow me to sort on whichever header I want, so that (only) the contents of that particular header are displayed?
