  I am using Xcode's SplitView template as the base for my project and I only want to accept Landscape mode. • I need a simple slideshow for images of different sizes

  I'm looking for a very basic slideshow which displays images of various sizes. For example, the first image could be a standard 800x600 but the next might be a taller portrait image and so on. The slideshow doesn't need to have any controls. The specification just states that the page will be black and in the centre there'll be the area where images will display. As far as I know, it will be very simple like this - www.jeffcutter.net. I'm limited on time here so I'm not able to look into writing a custom one or anything like that.   I am designing an image decoder and as a first step I tried to just copy the using c. i.e open the file, and write its contents to a new file. Below is the code that I used. while((c=getc(fp))!=EOF) fprintf(fp1,"%c",c); where fp is the source file and fp1 is the destination file. The program executes without any error, but the image file(".bmp") is not properly copied. I have observed that the size of the copied file is less and only 20% of the image is visible, all else is black. When I tried with simple text files, the copy was complete. Do you know what the problem is?

• Is there a faster way to access a property member of a class using reflection?

  I am currently using the following code to access the property of an object using reflection: Dim propInfo As Reflection.PropertyInfo = myType.GetProperty(propName) Dim objValue As Object = propInfo.GetValue(myObject, Nothing) I am having some issues with the speed since this type of code is being called many times and is causing some slowdown. I have been looking into using Refelction.Emit or dynamic methods, but I am not sure exactly how to make use of them. Background Information: I am creating a list of a subset of the properties of the object, associating then with some meta information (such as if they can be loaded from the database or xml, if they are editable, can the user see them). This is for later consumption so we can write code such as : foreach prop as BaseWrapper in graphNode.NodeProperties prop.LoadFromDataRow(dr) next The application makes heavy use of having access to this list. The problem is that on the initial load of a project, a larger number of objects are being created that make use of this, so for each object created it is looping through this code a number of times. I initially tried adding each property to the list manually, but this ran into problems with not everything being initialized at the correct time and some other issues. If there is no other good way, then I may have to rethink some of the design and see what else can be done to improve the performance.

  I've been toying with an interesting idea (No idea if I'll include it in any code, but it's fun to think about) Let's say we have a program that requires a large number of classes, all of a certain subclass. And those classes all need to be singletons. Now, we could write the singleton pattern for each of those classes, but it seems wasteful to write the same code over and over, and we already have a common base class. It would be really nice to create a getSingleton method of A that when called from a subclass, returns a singleton of the B class (cast to class A for simplicity) class A{ public A getSingleton(){ //Wizardry } } class B extends A{ } A blargh = B.getSingleton() A gish = B.getSingleton() if(A == B) System.out.println("It works!") It seems to me that the way to do this would be to recognize and call B's default constructor (assuming we don't need to pass anything in.) I know a little of the black magic of reflection in Java, but i'm not sure if this can be done. Anyone interested in puzzling over this?

  Hi, I am trying to make text appear briefly before it disappears. It would be along the lines of 1) Set color to black 2) wait x amount of seconds 3) set color to background color The method I call is repaint(), which then calls paintComponent(Graphics painter). repaint() is called only if I press the space-bar. I thought of trying repaint();Thread.sleep(1000);repaint(); (I do catch the Interrupt exception, just not shown), but it only calls paintComponent once per space-bar . Is there an easy way to do this or is this something that is a bit challenging?

• What approach should be suitable for user authentification in simle client/server app

  My previous question was closed so I will be more specific. I need to create an application, desktop one written in C#, that will ask for user credentials and after verification opens the GUI allowing to work with DB (black box for users). It should be used from everywhere, not LAN or SQL domain. I assume I would need to do the following: Create a client and a server applications that will deal with authentification. That would mean a lot of socketing stuff.. Once the user is verified, the client queries would be sent to database (client-server-DB). The server would need to send the DB data sets back to the client. As you can see, this is just my guess but I have no idea whether its too complicated or completely wrong. The main thing is that it must be desktop app (not web based one) and accessible from everywhere. I am interested in main points how to design the system and will be extremely grateful for that.

• What is common between environments within a shell terminal session?

  I have a custom shell script that runs each time a user logs in or identity is assumed, its been placed in /etc/profile.d and performs some basic env variable operations. Recently I added some code so that if screen is running it will reattach it without needing me to type anything. There are some problems however. If I log-in as root, and su - to another user, the code runs a second time. Is there a variable I can set when the code runs the first time that will prevent a second run of the code? I thought to write something to the disk but then I dont want to prevent the code from running if I begin a new terminal session. Here is the code in question. It first attempts to reattach - if unsuccessful because its already attached (as it might be on an interruped session) it will 'take' the session back. screen -r if [ -z "$STY" ]; then exec screen -dR fi Ultimately this bug prevents me from substituting user to another user because as soon as I do so, it grabs the screen session and puts me right back where I started.   I would like to know if the app icon on the iPhone can be slightly different than the one shown in a large version in Apple's App Store.   In Expression Blend 4, I want to change the Foreground of a custom button on different states. I'm just able to change the Background and BorderBrush. Just like this: If the state is "Normal", the color of text "Button" is Black, while the state is "Pressed", the color of text "Button" is White. On Brushes Panel under Properties Panel, there're 3 properties but no Foreground property: Who can help me? I'm so perplexed. Edit I find ContentControl have a Foreground property, but ContentPresenter haven't. Wether I should use ContentControl instead of ContentPresenter?

• viewForHeaderInSection - create header that would display properly in all cases

  I have an interesting problem/question and i'm not sure if it is even doable. So I have a custom header view for regular UITableView. But it's transparent and it doesn't fill fill table width. So it displayed properly when table is scrolled and this header view is displayed above cell content (sticked to the top). But when same header is displayed between two sections down - it looks ugly, because it's transparent and it's either displayed above black rectangle or above table background. I was wondering is there way to customize header view for when it's stick to the top and when it's not. Or... may be it's possible to specify what needs to be displayed underneath header view when it's between sections. Something like sectionSeparatorView?

  I have an input text in a form that has a problem in MSIE7. When the text field is filled and I continue typing, the background starts scrolling left along with the text.   I've written code to smooth an image using a 3x3 averaging filter, however the output is strange, it is almost all black. • What's a very easy C++ profiler (VC++)?

  I've used a few profilers in the past and never found them particularly easy. Maybe I picked bad ones, maybe I didn't really know what I was expecting! But I'd like to know if there are any 'standard' profilers which simply drop in and work? I don't believe I need massively fine-detailed reports, just to pick up major black-spots. Ease of use is more important to me at this point. It's VC++ 2008 we're using (I run standard edition personally). I don't suppose there are any tools in the IDE for this, I can't see any from looking at the main menus?

• UITextView refuses to change its color

  Hello, in some cases things you'd expect to solve within a sec turn out to become a lifetime adventure. This is one of these cases :) All I wanted to do, is simply change the text color of one of my UITextViews. So far I tried: UIColor *myColor = [UIColor colorWithHue:38 saturation:98 brightness:100 alpha:1.0]; [myTextView setTextColor:myColor]; OR UIColor *myColor = [UIColor colorWithPatternImage:[UIImage imageNamed:@"colorImage.png"]]; [myTextView setTextColor:myColor]; Both seem to work fine for UILabels, but fail for UITextView elements. When I try [UIColor colorWithHue... I only get a reddish kinda color, no matter what values I choose (except values for black and white. They work). The colorWithPatternImage does not change textColor at all. Strange isn't it? I obviously must be missing something. Help is very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  I'm currently making a console application in C# (will be going to a Windows Form application in the future. Sooner if needed). My current objective is to have a matrix (current size 52x42) be exported as an image (bitmap, jpeg, png, I'm flexible) where each value in the matrix (0, 1, 2, 3) is portrayed as a white, black, blue, or red square of size 20px x 20px with a grid 1px wide seperating each 'cell'. Can this even be done in a console application, and if so how? If not, what would I need to get it working in a Windows Form application?

• Make the text of a disabled textbox easier to see

  I have a text box that when it is disabled the text in it is gray and kind of dithered. (This is the standard functionality.) Is there a way to make this easier to see? I have tried this: txtBoxNumber.Enabled = false; txtBoxNumber.ForeColor = Color.Black; and that has no effect.   Please see the two long linklabels below (please ignore the black lines above) Linklabels' length is made dynamically during runtime, and as seen, could be that it's too long and overlapping other text we have (there is another text where you see 'Differences'). My questions are: a) Can I limit the maximum length of a linklabel? b) Is that possible to use a scrollbar with a linklabel (or any similar control) in case that it's too long? e.g. setting it to 200 pixels, and in case it's longer, the user has to scroll the horizontal scroller and see end of the text.
