• Matrix camera, movement concept

  I was talking to some guy. He said that my movement concept in game is bad. When left or right arrow is pressed I'm scrolling background what makes you feel that player is moving (player's X remains same). So... he told me something about matrix view. I should create all walls and platforms static and scroll only the camera and move player's rectangle. I did a little research in Google, but nothing found. Can you tell me anything about it? How to start? Maybe links, books and resources? My programming language is Java (2d). Thank you!

• Exclude pages from search results based on device class (mobile/desktop)

  We're currently building a new responsive website. While working on the site map, we figured that we don't want to show certain sections on mobile devices. This can be easily done by hiding the navigation parts using CSS/media queries. However, the trouble is that the hidden sites would still show up in search engine results. If a user happens to click on one of these links she might happen to see a badly formatted page as we'd use desktop/tablet only code to show images and video. Is there any way influence the search engines to exclude certain pages if the search is done on a mobile device? Do search engines crawl pages once or with a device specific view twice? Could we set a noindex meta tag for a specific device class?

  I'm interested in reasons for disallowing content editors on medium to large sites, from using various forms of WYSIWYG editors. A common problematic scenario I can think of is that with the use of a WYSIWYG, an editor uploads an image "somewhere" to the file-system, inserts it directly into the text, and publishes the article. Shortly afterwards, someone wants to pull out "The last 10 uploaded images", and display them on the frontpage. Good luck parsing all the content. Taking a look around at some large international online magazines, such as http://www.time.com/, and some local ones, I see that the editors seem to produce articles that are almost only consisting of raw text. Images are usually at the top of the article, and otherwise the most complex content are usually links. What are some common reasons for refusing editors access to WYSIWYG tools?

  I have an SQL query which links 3 tables using UNION: $sql ="(SELECT Drive.DriveID,Ram.Memory from Drive,Ram where Drive.DriveID = Ram.RamID) UNION (SELECT Drive.DriveID,External.Memory from Drive, External where Drive.DriveID = External.ExtID)"; Suppose I want to get Ram.Name as well. How do I do this? If I use Ram.Name in the first SELECT statement it would not produce the correct result. Any method for tackling this? I want to do it using UNION.

  Hi everyone, First of all, Happy New Year! I am thinking about making my blog accessible and enjoyable on mobile devices (as many handsets as possible). I am using Wordpress 3.0.4. What I've found is couple of cool plugins like WPTouch (for touch enabled devices), The Wordpress Mobile Edition and the Wordpress Mobile Pack. I am wondering which one is the best to use if I can use only one. If I can use more or (even all these three) are they compatible? Does anyone have any experiences in this topic?   This question already has an answer here: How did Google find my unlinked newly created pages? 3 answers I am working on a web project that has nearly 100 thousand instant users and there is a webpage that we are using for test cases. There are no links pointing to it from other pages. It shouldn't be indexed by Google or any other search engines. "noindex" can be used in this situation, I know but I wonder if Google (or any others) indexes this page, if I don't do anything to prevent it.

• 3D primitive rendering library

  Hi, I am looking for a library which would easily allow me to render shapes (cubes, spheres, lines, circles, etc.) in 3D3 and OpenGL if possible. I want to be able to rapidly design visual debugging tools and I am not proefficient enough in graphics rendering to do it myself (writing the low level stuff that is). The library would have to be for C/C++. I've already taken a look at the open-source 3d engine, but I feel those are too big for what I really need. Do any of you know if such library exist? If so, links would be appreciated!

• New domain and submission to search engines

  I have registered a new domain with a hosting company. They offer the feature that for each new domain there is an associated placeholder page. Actually it is a "Site not configured page" with some technical text and links to the hosting site. I could: submit its URL to search engines right now remove the page and submit the URL when the site will be online (could be a couple of months) replace the default page with "coming soon" contents and submit the URL opt for simplicity and add a blank html page having a focused and well descriptive title and maybe some meta tag other? I prefer 4 over 3 because at the moment there aren't precise project details to provide. What's the proper way to notify search engines that soon this site will be online, without getting penalized for side effects I'm not considering or aware of?

• Google Analytics + External Site Statistics Tracking in one application?

  My company is a broker in the real estate industry. As such, we send a lot of our listings to sites like Trulia.com and Zillow.com, among others. These sites direct leads to our realtors, and provide us with reports every month detailing the activity our listings have had on their site-- links back to our website, emails generated, etc. Our Marketing and Advertising departments want to take that information and enter it into a system to keep track of everything in one place, for the purpose of producing comparison reports. I cannot find any externally available product that provides this functionality. I would sincerely like to avoid writing this tool myself. Does anyone know of a tool that could do this? In short, an ideal system would: Imports Google Analytics data via API Imports real estate listing site data via CSV import / manual entry Provides comparison reports based on data Does anyone know of anything pre-made that can do this?

• Global variable in a Linux shared library

  Suppose we have the following setup under Linux, .so library named "libcnt.so" and 3 user space apps: "app1", "app2", "app3". This library does 1 simple thing, it says to the app (app dynamically links the library at runtime) by how many apps it is already linked. Apps should have access to link counter. My knowledge in C and Linux is somewhat limited in this aspect, but as I understand this information should be stored in a global variable inside the shared object. Something like: in libcnt.h extern int cnt_loads; in libcnt.c int cnt_loads = 0; // where each linking increments this counter or something... So, my question is how it should be declared and/or defined inside .so library to guaranty that multiple apps from user space get the same instance of that variable counter?

  I have a question about designing MVC app architecture. Let's say our application has three main categories of views (items of type 1, items of type 2...). And we have three (or more in future) types of users - Admins, let's say Moderators and typical Users. And in the future there might be more of them. Admins have full access to app, Moderators can visit only 2/3 type of items, and Users can visit only basic type of items. Should I divide my controllers/views/whatever like this: Items "A", Items "B", Items "C", then make them 100% finished and at the end add access privileges? Pros: DRY option Cons Conditional expressions in views Or another options: Items "A" / Admin, Items "A" / Moderator / Items "B" Admin ...? Pros: Divided parts of application for specific user (is that pros?) Cons: A lot of repeated code I don't have great experience in planning such things so it would nice if you can give me some tips or links to learn something about it.

• Synchronizing (updating) published files

  How can I update a published file and maintain the same URL? After saving an update of a published file on my desktop, it will automatically "synchronise" with the corresponding files at UbuntuOne (and it does). Problem is that the "new file", actually the updated file with the same name, is no longer published. Pressing the publish button results is a new URL. I now have to mail new URL's and change embedded links, as old URL will result in a failure to find the updated file (or indeed any file). I am not sure if it is a bug or a design flaw (maybe intentional?), but it seems strange to me.

The reports I'm working with usually require 1-2 pages for each record.   I am dealing with a frustrating problem with Joomla that is going to require some url trickery. The idea is straight-forward but after reading a bunch of guides for mod-rewrite, I still can't seem to get it work. Let's say my site is www.mysite.com. Joomla is already performing some rewriting for SEF urls so I have links like www.mysite.com/home and www.mysite.com/news and so on. I want to be able to have (4) pseudo-subdirectories like www.mysite.com/mode1/ and www.mysite.com/mode2/ and so on. These subdirectories should work as if the subdirectory isn't there, ie both www.mysite.com/mode1/home and www.mysite.com/mode2/home should pull up the same www.mysite.com/home. It should point any www.mysite.com/mode1/anypagehere to www.mysite.com/anypagehere. The reason I am asking for this is because I will be reading the url for mode1, mode2, etc, to modify the template page. There will be a landing page that will direct people to /mode1/ and /mode2/ etc and the template will change based on that. Note, that I don't want to actually pass a parameter to the url accessible by a GET or whatever because Joomla removes it (perhaps because of my current mod_rewrite settings).   I am developing an application that is using WebSphere MQ v6.0. WebSphere MQ is currently not working due to the following issue: WebSphere MQ service runs under local user "MUSR_MQADMIN" in the local group "mqm" I attempt to use the service using my own account, BIZ\noahz MUSR_MQADMIN needs to check if BIZ\noahz is in local group "mqm" MUSR_MQADMIN does not have permission to read the Active Directory group membership of BIZ\noahz The following error appears in the MQ log file: ----- amqzfubn.c : 3582 ------------------------------------------------------- 1/31/2011 18:51:32 - Process(704.1105) User(MUSR_MQADMIN) Program(amqzlaa0.exe) AMQ8079: Access was denied when attempting to retrieve group membership information for user 'noahz@biz'. EXPLANATION: WebSphere MQ, running with the authority of user 'musr_mqadmin@noahz-biz', was unable to retrieve group membership information for the specified user. • Nginx as a proxy to Tomcat

  Pardon me, this is my first attempt at Nginx-Jetty instead of Apache-JK-Tomcat. I deployed myapp.war file to $JETTY_HOME/webapps/, and the app is accessible at the url: http://myIP:8080/myapp I did a default installation of Nginx, and the default Nginx page is accessible at myIP Then, I modified the default domain under /etc/nginx/sites-enabled to the following: server { listen 80; server_name mydomain.com; access_log /var/log/nginx/localhost.access.log; location / { #root /var/www/nginx-default; #index index.html index.htm; proxy_pass http://127.0.0.1:8080/myapp/; } error_page 500 502 503 504 /50x.html; location = /50x.html { root /var/www/nginx-default; } } Now I get the index page of mypp (running in jetty) when I hit myIP, which is good. But all the links are malformed. eg. The link to css is mydomain.com/myapp/css/style.css while what it should have been is mydomain.com/css/style.css. It seems to be mapping mydomain.com to 127.0.0.1:8080 instead of 127.0.0.1:8080/myapp/ Any idea what am missing? Do I need to change anything on the Jetty side too?
