  I've installed a new Ubuntu 12.04 on an AWS EC2 instance and everything worked fine till now. I followed the instructions in this great tutorial: http://www.exratione.com/2012/05/a-mailserver-on-ubuntu-1204-postfix-dovecot-mysql/ Now i'm on the point "installing monit" and when i restart the service i get this error message now: monit: Cannot translate '(none)' to FQDN name -- Name or service not known I started googling and someone is writing there, that monit uses getaddrinfo in his startup-process to determine the hostname. Ok, so i thought i try out on myself what is getaddrinfo delivering, and then i got: getaddrinfo: command not found I guess, something is missing on my system. Can anyone help?

• Vista laptop won't connect to airport extreme

  Our previous router died, and to replace it I procured an apple airport extreme. My mac, my wrt54gs (with ddwrt acting as a bridge) and a linux machine have had no problem connecting to the wireless. None of the wired clients are having a problem obviously. The problem is one of my roommates can not connect. That's not strictly true. He can connect to the network, and will, infact, get a dhcp lease. However he cannot get any packets out. Can't ping the router, can't access any web sites, nothing. However he's fine if we switch to an unsecured network. Which is obviously not acceptable. The airport only allows for 'wpa/wpa2 personal' and 'wpa2 personal' (and of course the enterprise versions there of) I keep reading about this problem in multiple spots on the web, but never see any actual answers... • Unable to open Synaptic manager, unable to install packages, what can I do?

  I have installed the sun java6-jdk package but it's not installed completely. After that it's giving an error when I try to install a new package. In terminal when I write "sudo apt-get install [any package name]" I get an error like this: E: could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock -open (11 Resource temporable ) E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg). Also Synaptic package manager is not opening and none of the packages are downloading through any of the methods I know. Please help!

• How to find ip address of my Asus RT-AC86U in Access Point mode?

  I'm using an Asus wireless router model RT-AC68U and can connect fine to the internet using it wirelessly. I configured the router to be an Access Point, but having done so, I can no longer locate the GUI to adjust the router as I have no idea what its IP Address is anymore. The router is plugged into a cable modem and router which is a model SMCD3G is a business class gateway labeled Comcast Business IP Gateway. This gateway is assigning ip addresses in the range 10.1.10.XX and I went to the web interface at 10.1.10.1 and listed the connected devices and see my laptop which is connected to the Asus access point along with a few other devices, but none of the devices listed are the Asus router (I tried all the six ip addresses listed). How can I determine the IP Address of my Asus router in access point mode so I can see the GUI interface again to control the router other than by doing a factory reset?

  I installed xampp back around January 2009, and CF8 to test coldfusion on my macbook (note: I do not think that this issue is related to CF, but only xampp). I only ever used the apache part of xampp, and this was working for over a year. In the last couple of months at the most I've started getting the following error message (even for none CF sites, and non .cfm pages, the error occurs for .html files..): Access forbidden! • nohup or persistent process on Mac OS X ssh

  I know this has been asked before but none of the answers seems to work in OS X mountain lion. I would like to launch a process via SSH and close the terminal without kill the process. nohup ccl64 -e '(ql:quickload :"file")' & doesn't work. When the terminal is closed the process dies nohup ccl64 -e '(ql:quickload :"file")' same here I think there must be a way. this is very annoying as it works as a standard in any linux system yet mac os x refuses to work with any of these combinations. • Exchange 2003 HTTP Account Error

  We are trying to get one of our users connected to our Exchange 2003 server using the HTTP method as they already have an existing Exchange account on another server. The setup goes through and they appear to get connected fine however none of the subfolders are listed. Instead we get one folder of "Error-Pls file a Bug". The usual Google search just throws up nothing useful. Does anyone know how to fix this? Or has anyone actually gotten Outlook (2003 or 2007) to connect to an Exchange 2003 server?

  Hope I have not duplicated an issue already posted but I could not find anything from the search... Right here is the problem, we have recently updated all our desktops to the MS Office 2007 suite and people have issues trying to open simple files like word documents... the systems are Windows XP (SP3) Novell Network with novell client Office 2007 when they try to open a word document from a usual network share word presents a message reporting Access Denied Contact Administrator So we assumed network permissions, none of which have changed...so try the same file with Wordpad and it opens fine, be it with formating issues of course... Now copy the file to your desktop, which is not redirected, and you can open the file in word as normal... so does anyone know if office 2007 uses some new permission when opening files? does it create temps or something... any pointers would be appreciated

I have mod_jk configured for Apache front end and I am able to get the Tomcat index.jsp Now I created two virtualhosts for app1 and app2 so that app1.domain.com will point to app1 in tomcat and app2.domain.com will point to app2 in Tomcat but it's not working.   I'm looking for an FTP client that can connect to two different FTP servers at the same time and allow file transfer or synchronization between those two servers. Basically what I want to achieve is to transfer/synchronize files between 2 different sites from my local machine. Are there any clients around that support this functionality? If there are none, is there an alternative to achieve this? I've taken a look at net2ftp, a web based FTP client, which provides almost the same functionality that I need. What I'm looking for though is a desktop app. Any ideas?

• Wireless DHCP doesn't work until wired Ethernet plugged in

  A client of mine has an Asus R1F tablet running Windows XP Tablet SP3. It has an Intel 3945ABG wireless card; wired Ethernet is a Realtek something-or-other. In the past few days, it's developed an odd problem: WiFi authenticates, but can't get an address via DHCP. plug in wired Ethernet - both interfaces get good addresses unplug cable, WiFi continues to work until shutdown. Next morning, repeat process. I've tried: turning WiFi off/on (there's a slider switch) disabling/re-enabling via Device Mangler uninstalling and reinstalling the driver for the 3945ABG... changing from Intel Pro/SET to Windows Wireless Zero Config (and back) restarting the router changing the static DHCP assignments at the router upgrading the router firmware, just on general principles The router/access point is pfSense 1.2.3RC1 (was 1.2.2); wireless card is Atheros-based. None of the 12 other users (5 with tablets) are having problems.

  I need a database engine that can utilize multiple servers for processing a single SQL query in parallel. So far I know that this is possible with the some engines, though none of them are feasible for me either because of pricing or missing features. The engines currently known to me are: MS SQL (enterprise) DB2 (enterprise) Oracle (enterprise) GridSQL Greenplum Which other engines have this feature? • Is there a stable Linux distro using btrfs?

  I'm a big fan of ZFS on FreeBSD (I've been using it on my home server since before it got stable; bleeding edge, baby!) and I'd like to try out btrfs to see how that's evolving. Since it's still largely in development, none of the usual mainstream distros have btrfs as an option. I haven't used Linux in a bunch of years, so I don't really know what my best options are for giving btrfs a try. • Video Streaming in Windows 7

  I just got Windows 7 up and running, and I turned on the new media streaming feature and added all of my music and videos to the corresponding libraries on my machine. I can then go to my XBox 360 and pull up my entire music collection with no problem, but when I try to find the videos it says there are none. Now, I DID NOT import any of the music or videos into Windows Media Player...I know you used to have to stream things this way. But why does it work with Music and not with Videos?? They are all in formats that I know both Windows 7 and the Xbox can play as well...I used to use TVersity and didn't have to even transcode the files to play them.

• Does scheduling recycling app pool in IIS7 help the server conserve memory better?

  Hello, I have a VPS (IIS7 with Win 2008) It's got: 40 websites and a SQL Server 2008 powering them with only 2 Gigs of RAM. None of the sites are mission critical, they are all just demos. I often have ram issues on the server because each site has does caching and generally uses a lot of memory. Would it make sense to set the application pools to recycle every 3 hours? I'm sure this would free up any memory leaks or processes left "hanging" Are there any other tips on this? Thank you very much!, Aron

• How do I get Windows 7 wallpaper to display the company logo properly?

  Windows 7 is not displaying our company background properly. Curves show pixelation and straight lines are jagged. I'm working with a scalable vector graphics (SVG) image that I've exported to the same resolution (pixel dimensions, to be technical) as the desktop, which is 1440x900. I have tried exporting the image as a .png, .jpg, and .bmp. All of these look correct in an image viewing program, such as Windows Photo Viewer and Paint, but when I set the Windows background to these images, curves show pixelation and straight lines are jagged. Reading online, it seems that behind the scenes, Windows is converting the image to a .jpg with low quality compression, which is causing the issue. I've tried setting the image as a background through Internet Explorer, saving it as a .jpg, and putting the file in the Windows photo directory as suggested in some online forums, but none of those solutions have fixed my issue.

• What does ActiveSync on Android(Nexus One) actually do?

  Under the accounts settings of my nexus one I added a Microsoft ActiveSync account and pointed it to our OWA url. It doesn't seem to do anything, and I'm not really sure what it is supposed to do. I have both email sync and contacts sync enabled in the settings, but none of the email I get through outlook shows up on the phone nor are there any contacts added to my contacts list. When I setup the account settings if I type something in wrong it gives me an error, so it is doing something to test the connection, so to some extent I must have it setup right. It just doesn't seem to do anything. What is it actually supposed to do? Where would the contacts and emails show up if it sync'd successfully? How can I test it to ensure I have the correct URL specified?

  I have installed Windows 7 on MacBook Pro using BootCamp. Usually when turning my Bluetooth headset on and trying to pair it with Mac for the first time, Windows would fail to install drivers and open solution in Action Center, which suggests to download the driver from the Broadcom webpage. This worked before and drivers would install and work. However now, when I start driver installer, it would get stuck at "Detecting Bluetooth Device" stage. Below the steps there is also a warning with text, which says "Please plug in or turn ob your Bluetooth device". This is how the installer looks like when it's stuck: I have tried turning my headset on/off, bringing it into pairing mode, installing/uninstalling device to/from the Bluetooth Devices. None of these worked. Any ideas?

• Start FF with plugins disabled.

  Strange problem. Opened FF 3.6.3 after a re-boot and my last opened tabs appeared but none of the page or menu elements would respond to a click. No error messages...just locked up. Started FF with a different profile and it works normally. Next i used FEBE to restore a backup of my working profile and, after the restore, it's doing the same thing - locked out. No newly installed plugins but since a brand new profile works while a restored one doesn't it kinda points to a problematic plug-in. Is there any way to start FF with all plugins disabled? thx

• How do I diagnose a HP Notebook which has hardware issues?

  My HP DV6t-2300 recently crashed while using FLV Player. It wouldn't start up after this so I had to do a hardware reset (remove power sources, hold down power button ~15 seconds, put back power sources). After this it would turn on, but start up would freeze in Ubuntu, Windows 7, Ubuntu Recovery Mode, and various Linux Live CDs. The only successful way to boot was in Windows 7 Safe Mode. The HP Customer Service was very polite, but they are trying to blame it on a corrupt operating system which is clearly not the case (since I have tried 4 operating systems and none work). I am thinking it might be the GPU since 1) I was watching movies when it crashed and 2) Windows Safe Mode might not use the dedicated GPU. I already ran Memory and HDD tests and there were no detected errors. Any ideas of what's wrong, or suggestions for tests that I should run in safe mode? Should I try reinstalling Windows 7 to convince HP that it's not the OS?

• Transmission-daemon not picking up on watch directory

  Trying to get my transmission-daemon to pick up files from a dropbox folder, to make remote starting easier (it's a headless system). As far as I can tell, the settings.json file is as expected, but none of the files I place in the folder get picked up. I have checked that dropbox is syncing correctly. Here is the whole settings.json file, but the relevant lines are included below: "watch-dir": "/home/john/Dropbox/torrents", "watch-dir-enabled": true Update It appears to be a permissions issue. From /var/log/syslog: Unable to watch "/home/john/Dropbox/torrents": Permission denied (watch.c:79) I have tried stopping the daemon - sudo service transmission-daemon stop - changing permissions of folder using chown - sudo chown -R john /home/john/Dropbox/torrents - restarting daemon - sudo service transmission-daemon start Same result, however Update 2 Permissions for the folder are: drwsrwsrwx 2 john debian-transmission 4096 2012-04-09 19:40

• Is there a SIP provider in the UK which provides the P-Asserted-Identity header?

  In the US, Flowroute (low cost SIP trunking provider) provides P-Asserted-Identity in the SIP invite request header (example screenshots). It also allows you to set the caller ID for outgoing calls, for example by using the follow in extensions.conf for Asterisk: exten => id,n,Set(CALLERID(all)=123) However, in the UK, I've tried a couple of SIP providers and none of them let me do either of those things (see P-Asserted-Identity or set the caller-ID). Is this because of some sort of restriction in the UK phone networks, or is it only available to really expensive SIP trunking providers?
