  • Chrome Mobile: The Mobile Web Developers Toolkit (Part 1)

Chrome Mobile: The Mobile Web Developers Toolkit (Part 1) Building for mobile web requires a different mindset than desktop web development, and a different set of tools. The tools we're used to using often aren't available or would take up too much screen real estate. And going back to the dark ages of tweak/save/deploy/test/repeat isn't exactly optimal, so what can we do? Thankfully there are a number of great options - from remote debugging to emulation, mobile browsers are offering more and more tools to make our lives easier. We'll take a look at a couple of tools that you can use today to make cross platform mobile web development easier and then peer into the crystal ball to see what tools may bring in the future. Join us for Part 1 - as we take a look at a few boiler plates, frameworks and helpful libraries for building the mobile web. This week’s ArchBeat program presents highlights from the panel discussion from the event held in Anaheim. Listen The voices you’ll hear in these highlights belong to (listed in order of appearance): Ralf Dossmann: Director of SOA and Middleware in Oracle’s Enterprise Solutions Group LinkedIn | Oracle Mix Floyd Teter: Innowave Technology, Oracle ACE Director Blog | Twitter | LinkedIn | Oracle Mix | Oracle ACE Profile Basheer Khan: Innowave Technology, Oracle ACE Director Blog | Twitter | LinkedIn | Oracle Mix | Oracle ACE Profile Jeff Savit:  Oracle virtualization expert, former Sun Microsystems principal engineer Blog | LinkedIn | Oracle Mix Geri Born: Oracle security analyst LinkedIn | A 10-minute podcast can't really do justice to the hour-long panel discussion at each Architect Day event, let alone the discussion that is characteristic of each session throughout each Architect Day. But at least you’ll get a taste of what you’ll find at the live events. You’ll find slide decks and more from this first series of 2010 events in the Architect Day Artifacts post on this blog. More dates/cities will be added soon to the Architect Day schedule.  Coming Soon Next week’s ArchBeat program kicks off a three-part series featuring Cameron Purdy,  Oracle ACE Director Aleksander Seovic, and Oracle ACE John Stouffer in a conversation about data grid technology and Oracle Coherence. Devoxx 2011 is kicking off today and Oracle will be well represented for all its Java efforts. Here's a quick rundown of the Java EE and GlassFish side of things. Cameron Purdy, now responsible for the entire Oracle middleware stack (WebLogic, GlassFish, TopLink, Coherence) will host the Java EE keynote, mostly focused on Java EE 7. There will be sessions on individual JSRs by spec leads : Nigel Deakin for JMS 2.0, Marek Potociar for JAX-RS 2.0, and Greg Luck (EHCache) for JSR107 / javax.cache. Oracle's Shaun Smith will also cover JPA 2.1 with some of the unique EclipseLink features such as multi-tenancy. BOFs on Java EE.next and CDI are also planned during the week. Finally, Arun Gupta will be delivering a complete Java EE 6 hands-on lab. There will also be GlassFish-related sessions. A first one will focus on the current state of the community and product (3.1.x) with customers production stories, while GlassFish architect Jerome Dochez will walk you through the enhancements the team is working on for Java EE 7 and GlassFish 4 - virtualization, PaaS, elasticity and more. Last but not least, our good friends from Serli will discuss their latest GlassFish contributions on Application versioning and high-availability rolling upgrades.

  • codepad.org Perl runner limitations

    - by Lemurik
Sometimes I see people use http://codepad.org as a way to quickly run/test their Perl snippets (it supports doing that with a wide variety of languages, from C to Scheme to Perl). It's pretty obious that there must be some limitations as to what code/features can be tested with codepad - does anyone know what those limitations are for Perl runner? I'll get the ball rolling on my own observation: not every CPAN module is avialable :(

  • ffmpeg - How to determine if -movflags faststart is enabled? PHP

    - by IIIOXIII
While I am able to encode an mp4 file which I can plan on my local windows machine, I am having trouble encoding files to mp4 which are readable when streaming by safari, etc. After a bit of reading, I believe my issue is that I must move the metadata from the end of the file to the beginning in order for the converted mp4 files to be streamable. To that end, I am trying to find out if the build of ffmpeg that I am currently using is able to use the -movflags faststart option through php - as my current outputted mp4 files are not working when streamed online. This is the way I am now echoing the -help, -formats, -codecs, but I am not seeing anything about -movflags faststart in any of the lists: exec($ffmpegPath." -help", $codecArr); for($ii=0;$ii<count($codecArr);$ii++){ echo $codecArr[$ii].'</br>'; } Is there a similar method of determining if -movflags fastart is available to my ffmpeg build? Any other way? Should it be listed with any of the previously suggested commands? -help/-formats? Can someone that knows it is enabled in their version of ffmpeg check to see if it is listed under -help or -formats, etc.? TIA. • Examples of CoffeeScript in NodeJS?

    - by Austin Hyde
As a pet project, I am trying to get familiar with NodeJS and CoffeeScript, and am finding it hard to get the ball rolling. I've found plenty of examples of single-file super-simple apps like in CoffeeScript's examples folder, however, none of those really show what a full application would look like. I've also scrounged Google to no avail. Do you have any examples of medium-sized, multi-file CoffeeScript/NodeJS apps I could learn from?

  • What are codepad.org's Perl runner limitations?

    - by Lemurik
Sometimes I see people use http://codepad.org as a way to quickly run/test their Perl snippets (it supports doing that with a wide variety of languages, from C to Scheme to Perl). It's pretty obvious that there must be some limitations as to what code/features can be tested with codepad - does anyone know what those limitations are for Perl runner? I'll get the ball rolling on my own observation: not every CPAN module is available :(
