  • Wireless networks are not detected at start up in Ubuntu 12.04

    I have recently (three four days ago) installed Ubuntu 12.04 via windows installer i.e. wubi.exe. After the installation completed wireless and Ethernet were both working well. But after restart wireless networks didn't show up while in the network manager both networking and wireless were enabled. Though sometimes after boot it did show the networks available but very rarely. So I went through various posts regarding wireless issues in Ubuntu 12.04 and tried so many things but ended up in nothing satisfactory. I have Broadcom 4313 LAN network controller and brcmsmac driver. Then relying on some suggestions I tried to install bcm-wl driver but couldn't install due to some error in jockeyl.log file. Then i tried fresh installation of the same driver but still could resolve the startup issues with wireless. Then again I reinstalled Ubuntu inside windows using wubi installer. This time again same problem occurred after boot. But this time I successfully installed wl driver before disturbing file-system files of Ubuntu. But again the same issue. This time I noticed some new things: If I inserted Ethernet/LAN cable before startup then wireless networks are available and of course LAN(wired) networks also work. but if i don't plug in cable before startup and then plug it after startup then it didn't detect Ethernet network neither wireless. So I haven't noticed it before that LAN along with wifi also doesn't work after startup. But if i suspend the session and make it sleep and again login then it worked. I tried it every time that WLAN worked perfectly. But still i m unable to resolve that startup problem. Each time i boot first I have to suspend it once then only networks are available. It irritates me each time i reboot/boot my lappy. So please help out of this problem. Any ideas/help regarding this issue would be highly appreciated.   • Multiple data series in real time plot

    Hi, I'm kind of new to Python and trying to create a plotting app for values read via RS232 from a sensor. I've managed (after some reading and copying examples online) to get a plot working that updates on a timer which is great. My only trouble is that I can't manage to get multiple data series into the same plot. Does anyone have a solution to this? I imagine I need to use find with a regexp/regex, and then tell it to run another bash script on the results.

  • Hyper-V Server 2012 with Zambezi AMD FX-Series - Hardware assisted virtualization not present

    I'm trying to set up VDI across Windows Server 2012 VMs running on Hyper-V 2012. The wizard's compatibility check for the Virtualization Host server failed with "Hardware-assisted virtualization is not present on the server". I'm running an FX-8120 CPU and have the ASUS M5A97 motherboard. I know I'm supposed to enable No-Execute (Hyper-V Hardware Considerations) but I cannot find that or any other synonyms of it in my motherboards UEFI BIOS (NX, XD, EVP, XN... nothing). I found this: PAE/NX/SSE2 Support Requirement Guide for Windows 8 which in short says "Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 requires that systems must have processors that support NX, and NX must be turned on for important security safeguards to function effectively and avoid potential security vulnerabilities." this leads me to believe NX is on by default if I was able to get this far and install Hyper-V 2012 and Windows Server 2012.. Also I tried to disable AVX in cmd with "bcdedit /set xsavedisable 1". Did not resolve My processor is Zambezi FX-8120 and also supports RVI/SLAT/other synonym: processor: Newegg Processor FX-8120 support proof: AMD Processors with Rapid Virtualization Indexing Required to Run Hyper-V in Windows 8 What's going on here? I bought this CPU specifically after I had the same problems with an older AMD Athelon II and made sure to buy one with AMD-V and RVI. Thank you

Can this router alone be enough to get what I need (VPN tunnelling for users and site to site VPN) or will I require purchasing an additional ASA appliance?

So far the major limitations are: Only Internet Explorer 6 (manual says IE 5.5!) works for the web interface SSH exists but is not practically useable because the only key length that is supported is no longer even used by most modern SSH installs. (I get the error "RSA modulus too small" in openssh 4.x/5.x) This is with the latest firmware revision, I believe, although Cisco's website does not actually tell you what version you're downloading. All in all, I think, they must be trying to tell me that if I want a good-quality switch, I shouldn't buy these SRWs and should buy a Dell or an HP ProCurve, or save up my pennies, and buy a Catalyst. The question here, then, at long last: Has anyone gotten the web-browser to work via some IE 7 or IE 8 compatibility mode settings or used another browser (Opera? KDE/Safari/WebKit?) and spoofed IE6? Is there any way to get the SSH key length upgraded? I'm guessing a 0% chance of a yes on that last one. I found an XP machine, used telnet (via PuttyTel.exe) and IE6 to set this up, and I doubt we'll have to touch it again. Which is fine with us. But it would be nice if I could administer this thing from either (a) a linux box, or (b) my primary desktop which is windows 7. It looks like XPMode with IE6 on the virtual XP machine may be my only way to administer this type of switch via the web.

    I have a scenario when i have to establish peer-to-peer preshared key based VPN to a vendor. This vendor uses Cisco EasyVPN with Cisco VPN 3000 as access concentrator. I check the compatibility of the type of VPN from http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/iosswrel/ps6537/ps6586/ps6635/ps7180/prod_brochure0900aecd80582078.pdf and it appears that it would only work on cisco hardware. I am looking for a less inexpensive and possibly and open replacement to this to save my cost and also recommend to them. I have tried OpenVPN and thinking about vyatta.

  • InterVLAN routing on a HP V1910 series switch

    Recently bought a HP V1910-16G switch (former 3com 29??) with IPv4 routing capabilities. After unpacking I did a firmware upgrade to the latest 5.20 Release 1513P06. I did set up additional VLANs (#2 and #3) and VLAN interfaces for those. The problem is that connected PCs on different VLAN's can't ping each other. Looks like VLAN routing doesn't even work. So here's my setup: VLAN ID VLAN interface 1 10.0.0.21/24 2 10.0.5.1/24 3 10.0.6.1/24 Have one PC connected to VLAN 2 (IP address 10.0.5.2, default gateway 10.0.5.1) and a second PC connected to VLAN 3 (IP address 10.0.6.2, default gateway 10.0.6.1) Routing table: Destination IP Mask Next Hop 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 10.0.0.1 10.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 10.0.0.21 10.0.0.21 255.255.255.255 127.0.0.1 10.0.5.0 255.255.255.0 10.0.5.1 10.0.5.1 255.255.255.255 127.0.0.1 10.0.6.0 255.255.255.0 10.0.6.1 10.0.6.1 255.255.255.255 127.0.0.1 127.0.0.0 255.0.0.0 127.0.0.1 127.0.0.1 255.255.255.255 127.0.0.1 The first PC can't ping the second PC one and vice versa. They only can ping their own gateways and that's all. What I'm doing wrong?

  • connect 2.1 stereo speakers to LG LCD-TV (5500 series)

    I bought a pair of speakers for my dad's TV, LG 32LE5500. When I installed them, it just sounded worse than the integrated ones and that's where I realized the subwoofer didn't work at all and both speakers make lower volume than the internal ones. The audio output jack says "H/P" (standing for headphones, and a matching symbol) before buying I checked this output with my phone's headphones and it worked so I figured it would work with a set of speakers since it's a standard audio output. I guess it's literally for headphones and not any other kind of sound players. There is only one other audio output and it is the optical-digital, so I can't use that. Not at least with these speakers.. am I screwed? or is there any workaround?

  • Configuring vlans on Cisco SG200 series switch with Ubuntu server

    I created a vlan on Ubuntu with vconfig tool with 21 as id and eth1 as the host port. I connected eth1 to one of the ports on the swtich (GE23) as all ports trunk by default. In the webgui I created a vlan named test with the id 21 and I made GE2 are port as an access port. In port to vlan mapping I selected vlan 21 and added it port GE2 by selecting untagged option. I have assigned 192.168.1.1/24 as the ip of eth1.21 on Ubuntu. If I connect another cleint pc to GE2 port with a ip of 192.168.1.2/24 I cannot ping the server ip (192.168.1.1/24). Ping from server to client also does not work. I inspected packets that are sent out eth1 on the server and I could see the vlan 21 tag. And I connect the other end of the cable to a different Linux pc and inspected the packets but no vlan tags can be seen. What could be preventing me from getting vlans working? Edit 1 screenshots:

  • Eee PC Seashell series netbook screen is cut off at bottom no matter the resolution

    I have an Eee PC 1015PE Seashell netbook running Windows 7 Home Premium with an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3150 (8.14.10.2230) with a "Generic Non-PnP Monitor" detected. I tried: Changing the resolution (Control Panel = Appearance and Personalization = Display = Screen Resolution) to 1024x768 Updating the video driver (to 8.14.10.2230) Uninstalling the driver and rebooting Pressing the Windows Key + "-" (magnifier) Pressing Ctrl + Mouse Scroll only resizes the desktop items Pressing Fn + F4 shows 1024x600 (which I think is what I should be using, but nothing happens) EDIT: Changed from Landscape to Portrait and it works Attached an External Monitor and when I extend or set as desktop it works only on the External Monitor (shows up as "Generic PnP Monitor in Device Manager) Basically the bottom inch of my desktop is off-screen hiding my start bar, but my wigets are in their proper position (the start bar is not hidden). Pressing Ctrl + Esc shows the start menu but its cut-off. I'm pretty sure I should be using 1024x600 resolution, any advice? What's odd is that this only started happening recently. EDIT2: Here are some screenshots showing the problem: Resized Window to fit: Opened Start Menu - notice it cut off: Maximized window and then scrolled down - notice no Start Menu: I downgraded my graphic driver I downloaded from the Intel Download Center for the Graphic Media Accelerator 3150 (now: 8.14.10.1972) and now my "Generic non-PnP Montior" detects as "Digital Flat Panel (1024x768 60Hz)".

    I have a Printer Server running server 2008. I'm trying to setup some Samsung ML printers on it (ML-3050, 2150 and 2570 printers). The print server is server 2008 and all my clients are Windows 7 x86. I just never know which drivers to get for the server. On the site they have Universal, PCL5 and PCL6, PostScript, and SPL drivers. From what I've read PS is the best right? I just have problems getting them installed on the server and having clients connect. Which driver type is the best?

Here is the windows experience index scores I got : Nvidia 9300 GS : Base Score 3.9 Processor : 7.1 Memory : 7.5 Graphics : 3.9 Gaming Graphics : 5.1 Hard Disk : 5.9 Intel HD 2000 : Base Score : 5.2 Processor : 7.1 Memory : 5.9 Graphics : 5.2 Gaming Graphics : 5.8 Hard Disk : 5.9 My questions are : When using Intel HD graphics, it reduces the score of my Ram! How is that possible? It checks the speed of the ram. Not the size (i think). Intel graphics take some of the ram space but how can that effect the speed? From both of them, what will be the good choice?

    Are there any known tools that can take a serie of pictures and generate a single sprite sheet from them? (ie. place all the images into a single image, one after the other). I have found some very basic software doing this, but I am looking for one that is able to detect duplicate frames as well as outputting some kind of data structure that allow me to programatically retrieve the coordinate of each frame on the generated image. I need this to convert existing animations with many duplicate frames and I am a bit surprised that there is no standard software to do this, as most infos you can find on the web about this is people doing this completely manually.. Any recommendations?

    i have a cisco asa5520 in transparent mode. the interface is on the same subnet as some windows machines, which are generating a lot of broadcast traffic that is filling up the logs. is there any way to have it not log that its blocking those packets? its a bunch of these messages: "through-the-device packet to from management-only network is denied: udp src..." im also seeing some of those zeroconf requests that id like to drop logging for. i tried to just put a rule on the management interface, but apparently thats not allowed.

  • SSH to remote host (edgemarc 4200 or 4500 series routers) and pull arp data

    I've been trying to think of a method to do this for days, but have not come up with anything yet. Ideally, this is what I'm looking to do: From a windows XP machine, I need to open an SSH connection to a remote host, send the arp command, and pull the text results of the command back for use on the client. I will need to parse this data and preferably produce a 2D array of IPs and MAC addresses. There will be no shared keys, this is all done with a username and password that will always be different, they will need to be fed into the command via variables that will be pulled from a database using an autoit script based on the WAN ip of the remote host. Now the actual parsing of the data and creation of the array will be easy if I can just get the text of the arp table. Is there any way to ssh to a remote host, run a command and return the data from that command to the client in a batch script or perl script (it is ok if it writes the text to a file, I can read it out of the file later, I just need it to get to the client)?
