• 3D touch "Minority Report" style interface - what platform gets me there the fastest?

  I'm working on a project that requires touch interface, though the use case is desktop more than mobile. Want to start out platform agnostic, not a mobile app. There will be gridwork type of 3D objects and diagraming being represented - think AutoCAD or Minority Report. Want to build a prototype that will have hooks into a database to represent the data. Any advice on what tools to use both for the design and the development of the functionality is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

• GPG Workflow in 11.04

  At work we handle the transfer of small bits of sensitive data with GPG, usually posted on a secure internal website. Until Firefox 4 was released, we used FireGPG for inline decryption; however the IPC libraries that it relied upon were no longer present in FF4, making it unusable and it will no longer install in FF5. Currently I'm manually pasting the GPG blocks into a text file, then using the Nautilus context-menu plugin or the command line to decrypt the contents of the file. When we're handling large amount of these small files throughout the day this starts to become a real chore. I've looked around but can't seem to find much information on useful GPG clients in Ubuntu. A client that allowed me to paste in a GPG block and instantly decrypt it, and also paste in plaintext and easily encrypt it for multiple recipients would be ideal. So my question is does this exist? I can't seem to find anything about this with obvious searches on Google, so hopefully someone here can help, or offer an alternative workflow.

  After one has generated many grid based puzzles like sudoku, kakuro or even plain crosswords and now one has to print them in a book. How does one make a pdf (book file) from them automatically. To explain the question better. One has the puzzle ready in computer format like ..35.6.89 for all nine rows. The dot being the empty cell. How does one convert then to a picture on a PDF page complete with box, automatically without doing them individually and then print a book from the pdf file. As can be seen there are other things also printed on the page all this is done automatically.

• Tracking a single page on another domain in Google Analytics

  I have access to edit a 'mini-site' hosted on our organisation's parent site. I'd like to track this page using Google Analytics, however I don't have access to the front page so I can't verify this as my domain. Using the tracking code for our main site works, however I don't want this data to be confused with similarly named pages on our site (for example, our mini-site is at /radio, and if we had a /radio at our main site this would be counted as the same). Has anyone been in this situation before? I'd like to just redirect visitors to our mini-site to our main site, seeing as it ranks higher in Google, but I've been told to maintain a separate site with our main features.

What's the problem? Is the libguestfs-tools not the guestfish in Debian? Or it's just a broken dependency in libguestfs-tools in Debian7.1(my KVM Host)?

• Acer Aspire One 725 - missing graphic card driver for Radeon HD 7290?

  Recently I bought an Acer Aspire One 725 Netbook and installed Ubuntu 12.10 on it. I bought it, because it can run HD movies and has Full HD on external VGA port. However, movies from youtube have a really slow framerate. If you open three tabs in Opera (for example g-mail, youtube and askubuntu) it gets really laggy. My suspicion is that the driver for graphic card is missing. When I check the System->Details->Graphics the driver is unknown. After running lspci | grep VGA I get this output: 00:01.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI Device 980a From what I see, I have a AMD C70 processor integrated with AMD Radeon HD 7290. Has anyone had the same problem? Do you know which drivers need to be installed for the graphics to work properly? On official Acer page there are only drivers for Win7 and Win8... Update: OK.   I'm currently recoding a bar chart in my app to make use of the Chart class in the WPF Toolkit. Using MVVM, I'm binding the ItemsSource of a ColumnSeries in my chart to a property on my viewmodel. Here's the relevant XAML: <charting:Chart> <charting:ColumnSeries ItemsSource="{Binding ScoreDistribution.ClassScores}" IndependentValuePath="ClassName" DependentValuePath="Score"/> </charting:Chart> And the property on the viewmodel: // NB: viewmodel derived from Josh Smith's BindableObject public class ExamResultsViewModel : BindableObject { // ... private ScoreDistributionByClass _scoreDistribution; public ScoreDistributionByClass ScoreDistribution { get { return _scoreDistribution; } set { if (_scoreDistribution == value) { return; } _scoreDistribution = value; RaisePropertyChanged(() => ScoreDistribution); } } However, when I update the ScoreDistribution property (by setting it to a new ScoreDistribution object), the chart gets an additional series (based on the new ScoreDistribution) as well as keeping the original series (based on the previous ScoreDistribution). To illustrate this, here are a couple of screenshots showing the chart before an update (with a single data point in ScoreDistribution.ClassScores) and after it (now with 3 data points in ScoreDistribution.ClassScores): Now, I realise there are other ways I could be doing this (e.g. changing the contents of the original ScoreDistribution object rather than replacing it entirely), but I don't understand why it's going wrong in its current form. I'm developing a tool in PHP that could attain quite a lot of users, if it works out right. However while I'm fully capable of developing the program I'm pretty much clueless when it comes to making something that can deal with huge traffic. So here's a few questions on it (feel free to turn this question into a resource thread as well). Databases At the moment I plan to use the MySQLi features in PHP5. However how should I setup the databases in relation to users and content? Do I actually need multiple databases? At the moment everything's jumbled into one database - although I've been considering spreading user data to one, actual content to another and finally core site content (template masters etc.) to another. My reasoning behind this is that sending queries to different databases will ease up the load on them as one database = 3 load sources. Also would this still be effective if they were all on the same server? Caching I have a template system that is used to build the pages and swap out variables. Master templates are stored in the database and each time a template is called it's cached copy (a html document) is called. At the moment I have two types of variable in these templates - a static var and a dynamic var. Static vars are usually things like page names, the name of the site - things that don't change often; dynamic vars are things that change on each page load. My question on this: Say I have comments on different articles. Which is a better solution: store the simple comment template and render comments (from a DB call) each time the page is loaded or store a cached copy of the comments page as a html page - each time a comment is added/edited/deleted the page is recached. Finally Does anyone have any tips/pointers for running a high load site on PHP. I'm pretty sure it's a workable language to use - Facebook and Yahoo! give it great precedence - but are there any experiences I should watch out for? Thanks, Ross

  I have an array whose elements are name, reversed_name, first_initial and second_initial. A typical row is "Aaron Smith", "Smith, Aaron", "a", "s". Each row in the array has a first_initial or second_initial value of "a". I need to display the rows alphabetically but based on the "a" part, so that either the name or reversed_name will be displayed.   How do I Capture ASP.NET output and then store it as temp memory so that I can use them in an application to do comparison. example. there's this site which has ASP output. Sorry I do not have server access, what I can do is view the output.   I've got a column in a database which contains company names, and customer names all in one field... what I'd like to do is keep the CompanyName column completely intact, but wherever there is a comma in the CompanyName I'd like to take that information and populate it into a FirstName and LastName field. So that basically...
