  I just bought a nettop. It came with WinXP Home. I first installed Win 7 on it. I wasn't that happy with the performance so I decided to go back to XP. I am using an external dvd drive and a Win XP Pro disc. I boot from the dvd drive and during the install get this error: Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer. Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that any disk-related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer-supplied diagnostic or setup program. Setup cannot continue. To quit Setup, press F3.   Background: Have a problem at work where I am constantly being locked out of my computer. We are in an environment that has a Domain Controller and we use Active Directory for authentication. By going through my normal workflow while on the phone with Desktop Support we were able to track the bad password attempts that were causing the lockouts to an application: "Eclipse". This is the application I use to do software development. I immediately thought it was a cached password for our SVN server that's the culprit, however the desktop support person couldn't tell me which resource the password attempt was being made against (i.e. which URL for instance). Question: Is there a way that I can monitor bad authentication requests made by an application on my desktop and find out what resource they are attempting it against?

  Here is the point. I set Windows to display all the hidden files and protected operating system files but even after that, my antivirus (Kaspersky) is still getting a ".dll" file on "c:\windows\system32" saying it's a riskware 'Hidden.Object'. I tried to find this file everytime but it's not there. So I asked one of the developers to create a service that verifies the folder each 5 seconds and, if it founds the file, copies to another place. After a lot of research I just found out that every file with this same name on this specific server gets cloak, doesn't matter the file extension. How can I found this kind of file? How can I "uncloak" it? How can I know what this file is doing?

  I have a file containing a text: PADLST20120907:D:05B:UN:IBTA+TK4 17 JFL01+01'BGM+250+C'RFF+TN:TK4 I want to find this file in Linux, using these two strings: "JFL" and "20120907". As you see above, the file contains both "JFL" and "20120907". What should I write in command line? Stirngs may or may not be in the same line. I want to see file names with full path in the output. I don't want to see error messages or permission denied warnings. I want to search recursively in the directory I am standing in or I would like to specifiy a path. regards

• Where can I find a good, tab-less privacy filter for my monitor?

  Hi, I have an ASUS laptop with a 14" monitor (12" by 7" to be more specific), and I've been looking for a decent privacy filter that I can use with for, yet I couldn't find any. The problem with the filters I've found is that they all use those ugly "tabs" that you have to stick on the sides of your monitor in order to slip the filter in. I'm looking for ones that are like HP privacy filter, where parts of it goes under the frame of the monitor to hold it in place. Too bad HP doesn't sell filters that fit my screen. So, any idea where I can get a good privacy filter? Your help is so much appreciated

• Synchronisation software to find files that have moved paths within a folder?

  Say I have a pictures folder which I reorganized on one computer. I'd like to use that directory as the base and compare it with another version on a backup drive. Will any Synchronisation/compare program find that a file in one folder has moved locations within a compare folder? For instance, say I reorganized my pictures from trips into folders by year with the trips folders inside each year folder. If I use a regular compare utility I wind up with two copies of everything that's moved in different locations.

  I recently converted my external hard drive from FAT32 to NTFS using the Command Prompt. Everything was working fine, I copied a 7GB file to it and everything worked. The next day I switched on my PC, I couldn't and still can't find my external 1.5TB hard drive by my computer. I have about 500 to 800 GB of data on it that I really don't want to lose. Its a Iomega Seagate Freeagent HDD. Has no switch, it switched on automatically, don't know if that helps.

I would like to know how to find a string or a substring within a file that is within a particular directory. If I was knew the file which contained my target substring, I would just cat the file and pipe it through grep, thus: cat file | grep mysubstring But in this case, the pesky substring could be anywhere within a known directory. How do I hunt down my substring ?

What I would like to be able to do is go to a specific PC and see what group policies are being applied, so I can focus on those policies. • Upgrade Subversion 1.6 to 1.7 on CentOS? (can't find yum repository)

  I want to upgrade my SVN Server from 1.6 to 1.7. Unfortunately I can't find anything on the internet how to do this with yum. I have checked rpmforge-extras but it has only svn 1.6 and not 1.7 I wanted to update with yum because this is the most secure way for me. I'm not an experienced Linux user. Is there a yum repository that contains 1.7 (subversion.x86_64 0:1.7.xxxxx.el5.rfx) I hope somebody can help me out? If there is non, perhaps a short explenation how to update with just step by step.

  I have a LibreOffice Writer document that has undergone a process of editing, and sections of the text that needed to be rewritten were highlighted in yellow. As I fixed those sections, I removed the yellow highlight. Now, I want to make sure there are no remaining areas of highlighted text that have not been fixed or possibly the highlight was not removed. It's many hundreds of pages, so a manual scan is unfeasible. Also, it might be that one space or one character got accidentally left highlighted, and I want to ensure I've accounted for them all. How can I search the document to find all instances where text has been highlighted?

Anyway, I fixed it somehow, from terminal, with some packages, after a couple of reboots, now I have problem with the adobe-flashplugin. I'm trying this in terminal but: sudo apt-get install adobe-flashplugin Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done E: The package adobe-flashplugin needs to be reinstalled, but I can't find an archive for it. I also tried the update manager, but I get something about partial upgrade but that thing also isnt working, and I get a message that I have to install it manually or I remove it completely. So, how can I remove it completely and then I will install it clean again from the beggining?

  Hi, I've got a bit of a strange problem. On one of our computers, pressing ctrl + alt + left/right/up/down will move the mouse pointer on the screen, but it's not clear which software makes this happen. It interferes with other software that uses these shortcuts. I've already tried disabling some software, such as WinKey and a Kensington mouse driver, but that didn't make a difference. It's happening on a Windows XP SP3 computer by the way. Does anyone have an idea of how to find the software that traps this shortcut? This allows you to know what was done and even to create a custom uninstaller. Unfortunately InstallRite seems to no longer be maintained and has not been updated since 2008.

  How can I tell if the repair shop stole my hard drive? I had my computer in the shop for a couple of days to get a diagnostic check and he quoted me $130. I have a family member who said he would do it for $30 so I rejected the offer and requested it back. When he returned it I hooked it back up and now I get a low disk space warning; when I dropped it off I had at least 50 gb of space left, on a total of 149 gb and all my pictures movies, and music are gone. Can I find if he indeed did steal my hard drive or something?

  I've been using svn thru tortoise and svn:// protocol on windows for a couple of years and I'm pretty comfortable with it. Nevertheless tThere are a couple of features I'd like to hove, mainly shelves (something like local commits) and easier branch / merge support. From my experience, svn / tortoise on windows is rock solid stuff. I was wondering if git / tortoisegit has achieved the level of maturity and stability so as to be a replacement for svn on windows.   I have an application that displays images from network cameras. The application will show multiple images on a single page. Each image container has a button on it that causes jQuery to scale that image up to fill a 64x480 div vs much smaller when multiple images are present. I change the src in the image with jquery as you'd expect: $("#imageId").attr("src", "http://cameraUrl.com:6000?width=640&height=480&d="+date.getTime()); the date.getTime() is intended to override the caching in a browser. It works for retrieving still images. Sometimes the video changes to the larger resolution. Other times it just sticks with the original image scaled up to fit the larger div as if it is not loading the new URL. This is evident by the fact it's grainy and the text overlay from the camera is scaled up. Occasionally the image finally loads in the higher resolution version and it works evidenced by the image clarity and the text overlay scaling to what it should be. Is there a correct way to force the setting of an image src where the src points to a motion jpeg stream to reload?

  I am tired of Windows Forms...I just am. I am not trying to start a debate on it I am just bored with it. Unfortunately we have become dependent on 4 controls in DevExpress XtraEditors. I have had nothing but difficulties with them and I want to move on. What I need now is what the closet replacement would be for the 4 controls I am using. Here they are: LookUpEdit - this is a dropdown that filters the dropdown list as you type. MemoExEdit - this is a textbox that 'pops up' a bigger area when it has focus CheckedComboBoxEdit - this is a dropdown of checkboxes. CheckedListBoxControl - this is a nicely columned list box of checkboxes This is a LOB app that has tons of data entry. In reality, the first two are nice but not essential. The second two are essential in that I would either need to replicate the functionality or change the way the users are interacting with that particular data. I am looking for help in replicating these in a WPF environment with existing controls(codeplex etc) or in straight XAML. Any code or direction would be greatly appreciated but mostly I am hoping to avoid any commercial 3rd party WPF and would instead like to focus on building them myself(but I need direction) or using Codeplex

  Hi there, Trying to create a KNN search using a KD-tree. I can form the KD-tree fine (or at least, I believe I can!). My problem is that I am searching to find the closest 2 neighbours to every point in a list of points. So, is there a method to find the K nearest neighbours to a point using a KD tree even if the point is actually IN the tree, or do I need to construct a seperate KD tree for each point, leaving out the point that I wish to search for?   Hi there, Suppose I have this very simple method in Store's model: def geocode_address loc = Store.geocode(address) self.lat = loc.lat self.lng = loc.lng end If I want to write some test scripts that aren't affected by the geocoding service, which may be down, have limitations or depend on my internet connection, how do I mock out the geocoding service?
