• PLS HELP!!How to boot windows 7 after installing ubuntu 12.10?

  Im new to linux and im interested in learning it so I installed ubuntu 12.10 yesterday. Installation went smoothly and i chose "install alongside windows option" and I set about 50 gb using that slider and i tot i used 50 gb from c: drive but to my shock it used 50 gb space from f: drive. This was my first shock.Then when i restarted n tried to log into windows, nothing happened a black screen appeared saying "To restart press alt+ctrl+delete" but even pressing that it wont restart. No matter how many times i try rebooting windows is not booting same black screen saying restart appears. But i can log in to ubuntu and i can see that windows c: drive is fine. PLEASE HELP ME!!!!

  Ubuntu 12.10 beta 2 has awfull 3d performance and Video Tearing do something about this. Tearing is common issue on linux and makes linux sucks. Ubuntu also is bloated and uses compiz , i hope ubuntu developers should be more serious cause even a noob should know that compiz sucks now. I have no screen tearing and full opengl 3d performance on cinnamon ! And thats why i like linux mint 13. Ubuntu is so slow applications launching time is bigger compared to linux mint or xubuntu and many many times slower compared to arch linux. I was sattisfied before the 12.04 version now i'm just dissapointed..... (downvoters are simply noobs or silly fanboys and they deserve ubuntu)

• laptop suspend broken after latest kernel update

  I ran a software update (Ubuntu 14.04) on my laptop over the weekend, which included an update from kernel 3.13.0-24 to 3.13.0-27, among other things. Today i had to take my laptop to work, so closed the lid and put it in my bag. However, it never went into suspend mode! I tried several times, even rebooting. Finally I tried the previous kernel from the grub menu (reverting back to the -24 one) and suspend works the same as it always had before. Did something suspend related change between the -24 and -27 kernels used in Ubuntu 14.04? I think by only reverting to a previous kernel to temporarily fix it, i've ruled out any other software changes made during the weekend's upgrade.

  At times when we develop new features or functionality, we gradually "turn it on" to ensure a smooth transition and minimal impact for users. Instead of one big sudden change, we are able to control with the configuration aspects of the functionality that make it more or less intrusive to the user. This is all done in the same release/version of the software, so no software development changes are required (unless bugs turn up that need to be fixed). For example, initially we may only perform logging or analysis of data without acting upon it. Or we make something optional for a period of time before it becomes compulsory. The idea is that this reduces the potential for problems either on the technical side as well as unexpected changes by the user. The question is, is there a formal name for this approach?

  Hello everyone. I am working on website and I am trying to make it fast as much as possible - especially the small things that can make my site a little bit quicker. So, my to my question - I got loop that run 5 times and in each time it echo something, If I'll make variable and the loop will add the text I want to echo into the variable and just in the end I'll echo the variable - will it be faster? loop 1 (with the echo inside the loop) for ($i = 0;$i < 5;$i++) { echo "test"; } loop 2 (with the echo outside [when the loop finish]) $echostr = ""; for ($i = 0;$i < 5;$i++) { $echostr .= "test"; } echo $echostr; I know that loop 2 will increase a bit the file size and therefore the user will have to download more bytes but If I got huge loop will it be better to use second loop or not?   I have one machine in which Windows8 is already installed and having 3 partitions(one for windows OS). Now i wanted to install Ubuntu12.04, i have tried many times but ubuntu 12.04 installer not able to fine those partitions, even it is not recognise windows partition. please refer the images and please help me to solve this issue. Somehow i am not able to update images so i am just explain here. "Installation type " window - this window only shows two options 1)Erase disk and install ubuntu" 2) Something else * here there is no option for "Along with windows 8" option and in second window of "Installation type" it shows Device : /dev/sda freespace 500107 MB *there is nothing else. but i reality there is three partitions and i wanted to install Ubuntu in other partitions. I don't formate windows8. I am new with Ubuntu so please help me to install Ubuntu. Thanks.

• Internet connection crashes while wifi / lan stay connected

  I am connected to a router by wifi or lan. But every few moments (sometimes seconds, sometimes half an hour) my connection to the internet breaks down. So in one moment I can surf with my firefox and have ping times of 20 ms (wifi) to the google server. And in the next moment I can't open any pages in any browser and the ping shows no new messages first and then "Destination Host Unreachable". This is especially odd as another computer or my smart phone stays connected at the same time to the same network and seems to notice nothing. So I have a problem independend of wifi or lan drivers but with something else. Where should I look for logs that could tell me more information? I can't find some in syslog. Just if I reconnect to the router (wich works for another few moments) there are a lot of informations. But everythin is okay then.

My question is however given the “simplicity” of the game I need to build (simple kind of scratch game where you find or not something behind a tile), do I really need complex tools (canvas or node.js for example) ? The game The gamestakes place with a picture of our office as a background (tilemap). For HR purpose, we wish to create the following game fore employees: each day they can come to the website and click on a certain number of tiles (3 max per day) and find behind it motivation advice and interesting facts about the company. The constraints and rules the screen is divided into isometric 2D square tiles. There are basically an image (photograph of our office) number of tiles on the screen game: about 10,000 to much more (with scroll , see below) the players can scroll in 4 directions there are only 2 types of tiles: already open and closed player can open tiles that have not been yet open by other players there is no path for players : any player can click on any tile on the screen at any moment (if it’s not already done by another player) 2 players can’t be on the same tile at the same moment (or if they can, I’ll have to manage to see which one clicked on it first) only one type of player (all with similar roles), no weapon, no internal score… very simple game. no complex physics (collision only occurs if 2 players are on the same tile) The target I need to achieve: cross device, cross browsers high performance reaction (subsecond reactions) average nb of players per hour: up to 10K players per hour (quite high indeed but it’s because we aim at proving our case for the game to our business unit) So what I would like to know: 2D Tiled map: Do I need tiledmapeditor or can I enable me split the screen like here ? should I use canvas or plain html/css could be sufficient for my need? do I need a game engine/framework such as melon.js or crafty./js ? (even if the game play is extremely basic, I do need mouse and touché device support, mouse emulations on touch devices…) or ca I easily/quickly do it without? for my constraints and targets, should I use CPU acceleration ? for my constraints and targets, should I use web workers ? for the database, for a massively real time game should I avoid to put the current locations of player in MySQL as i feel it might slow me down. To lessen load times, I plan to minify it all in to one file before deploying. The problem is this: how should I avoid launching page specific JS on pages which don't require it? This number, attributed to "one specialist", and widely repeated across the interwebs, seems incredibly far-fetched (even assuming a large fraction of that number includes standard libraries). If this is an accurate estimate, it would truly be staggering (as this fascinating infographic vividly reveals). I realize StackExchange:Programmers isn't Snopes.com, but I'd like to find out if anyone here believes this is even remotely possible. I'd like to know if there is a plausible system of accounting (using examples from publicly available data, if possible) that could lead someone to conclude that such an estimate is within the realm of reason. How could a codebase (by any measure) sum up to such an exhorbitant number of code lines?

  While installing ubuntu i accidently hit the high contrast option. I could not figure out how to diable it within the install, so i let it complete. I booted up into ubuntu 13.04 and HC was still on. I disabled it in Universal Access, and now am noticing my mouse curose is huge in web browsers. This is very much a stock install. Is there a setting to disable the HUGE mouse? I mean the thing is 4 times the size of text etc on normal pages. and its only in broswsers from what ive seen so far. EDIT Looks like its in everthing with text.. terminal, app store, folders and files... /sigh.

  I recently experienced OS problems with Windows 8 so I decided to wipe my hard drive and install Ubuntu using a usb boot. I am able to "Try Ubuntu" or choose to install instantly, however, after installation it asks me to restart my computer but when I do this I receive the same installation options I originally had, "Try Ubuntu", "Install", "OEM Install", "Repair Disk". I initially thought this was the result of leaving the boot usb in, so I tried reinstalling, but now I just receive a message saying "No boot disc or boot disc failed". This happens with any type of install I do, I've tried clearing the hard drive multiple times, making a new boot usb, but nothing seems to help. I've tried reinstalling windows, but I encounter the same problem, without the usb I get an error. I have an Acer Aspire M3470, I cleared my hard drive and attempting to install via usb boot. I have a weird BIOS menu probably because of AMD but it's been hard to find information regarding my particular BIOS menu. HERE is an image of my BIOS menu

• Xubuntu: how do I automatically mount external NTFS drive with writes allowed?

  i would have thought mine was such a common question that there would be a simple solution already built in to xubuntu - but there isnt. i have 2 separate external hard disks and connect them to a usb port at different times - i would like them to be automatically mounted as read/write, but apparently the designers of gnome-volume-manager decided that shouldnt be possible and they are mounted as read-only in fact, i can write new files to them, but cannot then delete the new files i just wrote! is there a workaround? i read somewhere that etc/fstab doesn't apply to removable media, which are mounted by gnome-volume-manager and therefore cannot be unmounted by a user

  I've tied in the code for the facebook like button from the facebook dev site (I currently use the iframe version) directly into the html of a node (or content post). I want to be able to manipulate what text is sent when someone hits the like button. you can see the site and buttons here www.masteringmoneybasics.org I've tried both the iframe and html5 versions of the button and can't see where to alter what is sent. If there is no way to directly alter what is sent, does anyone know what it looks for in content to be sent so I can structure the node correctly? If you notice, when you like the page, it doesn't get the first sentence of the content, but all content after it, and I've tried putting different content in between the two lines (in its own <p>) and it still grabs the latter. Also how it figures out which image to grab from the page? Most times it doesn't take any image, however twice it's grabbed the middle school image.

  I'd like my HP Bluetooth Mouse x4000b (no usb dongle) to connect automatically when starting my HP laptop (Ubuntu 14.04), but I can't succeed in it : I'm forced to do it manually by clicking the "connect" button. I know this topic has been answered many times, but no solution worked for me. Here's what I tried so far : Creating the file /etc/default/bluetooth with lines : HIDD_ENABLED=1 HIDD_OPTIONS="--connect F0:65:DD:7D:EC:A0 --server" Putting hciconfig hci0 reset at the end of /etc/init.d/bluetooth Putting /etc/init.d/bluetooth stop sleep 1 /etc/init.d/bluetooth start in /etc/rc.local None of these solution worked, I've read a lot of topics but couldn't find a solution ... that's why I'm asking that here, hoping you can help me troubleshooting that. Everything went well (i choose the language, and then i choose ' install'), the purple screen with the title 'ubuntu' come up, it started loading too. After a time black screen come up with white letters last sentence was something like: panic occured, switching back to text. • how can I make the launcher disappear after notication

  I have a generally stock configured Unity 2d, with the launcher in auto-hide mode. When I get a notification, the launcher pops out and the relevant icon wiggles. That is all functioning well. My problem is that the launcher pops out for maybe 5 seconds before hiding. Often times I'm typing or using the mouse on the portion of the display that is now covered by the launcher. After I've mentally received the notification is there some way to tell the launcher "I've seen this, you can go away now". Note, I'm not wanting to modify or shorten the default display time. I'd be very happy to hit 'alt-h' or some other key combination to make it go away.
