• How to read using C++ (C#) sound stream sent by flash?

  Hello. I need to read sound stream sent by flash audio in my C++ application (C++ is not a real limitation, it may be C# or any other desktop language).   I realize standard C++ only picks functions by argument type, not return type. I.e I can do something like: void func(int); void func(double); but not double func(); int func(); Where in the former, it's clear, in the latter, it's ambigious. Are there any extensions that lets me tell C++ to pick which function to use also by return type? Thanks!

• I have a 18MB MySQL table backup. How can I restore such a large SQL file?

  I use a Wordpress plugin called 'Shopp'. It stores product images in the database rather than the filesystem as standard, I didn't think anything of this until now. I have to move server, and so I made a backup, but restoring the backup is proving a horrible task. I need to restore one table called wp_shopp_assets which is 18MB. Any advice is hugely appreciated. For example class B; // forward declaration class A { private: B* pB; }; Would it be good idea to declare such a member as shared_ptr, instead of naked pointer? I would prefer scoped_ptr, but AFAIKit it won't be in standard.

• What programming shortcuts do you end up regretting or backing out?

  I saw this question and it reminded me of AutoGenerateColumns in the old DataGrid. The few times I've used them, I ended up backing it out because I needed data formatting past the standard "spit out the Data Source columns." Likewise, with toggle, it sounds like it would save time, but then you end up needing to keep track of state or something else, and you rewrite the code accordingly. Are there things that you end up using thinking it will save you time, but end up backing out because it doesn't do what you need?

  For C# Visual Studio uses 4 spaces by default, whereas for C++ it is hard-tabs. Why is it so? Why is it different? My project consists of both C# and C++ code and the difference really annoys me. I want to set a common standard for all the sources, but I wonder if this would have any drawbacks.

  Hi, I am working in an ASP.NET mvc application. With regards to URL's I could see the Controller and action names in the address bar when user navigates between pages. Is there a way to hide them, such that the address bar always displays http://mywebsite.com without any action names or controller names suffixing them, or is there any other standard practices? Or is it ok to leave the URL as such which can contain action and controller suffixes?

• Cannot get Request.Form by name in ASP.NET

  I have an ASP.NET page which utilizes jQuery for an autocomplete-type scenario. The jQuery tucks the actual selected values into a hidden field it creates on the fly, but for some reason I cannot get the value of that standard HTML field on postback by calling Request.Form["HiddenFieldName"]. I can see it by ordinal in the Request.Form object, but if I add/remove controls it will break. Any suggestions?

  So, I'm working in eclipse were everything compiles and runs correctly. However, when compiling under ant for the build server, A large number of tests fail with a NoSuchMethodError saying: class A implements B interface B extends C C requires method getSyncID() // standard getter for an int field. A.java contains getSyncID() A.class contains getSyncID() and yet the Error is still thrown. Does anyone know how the hell this could happen? how to fix it.

  Yesterday I added a custom MembershipProvider to an ASP.NET web application, but when I deployed the application to its remote host server, it failed. I know I had the login info correct, and I also know that for nearly any exception in the login process, the Login control displays the standard error message, "Your login failed", so I assume something is wrong in the code/config. • Showing pagination with only single page using will_paginate

  I'm using will_paginate as standard, but it only shows the pagination controls (< 1 2 etc) when there's more than one page to display. Normally, this would be what is wanted, but I want to see the pagination controls (for UI consistency and to get round an annoying CSS quirk in the system I'm working on) even when there's only 1 page to display (showing < 1 ). Is this possible?

• Extend Javascript Date Object

  Hi Folks, I'm curious what would be the best practice to extend the Date constructor. The problem I'm facing is, that the Internet Explorer (< 7+8) can't parse a date like new Date('2010-05-11'); I have to admit that this is not a standard method to parse, anyways FireFox and Chrome perform well on that kind of date string. Now I'm wondering, should I just split/parse/rebuild the string before calling new Date() or is there a more elegant solution ?

• Is it possible to 'talk' to servers in a Windows intranet and pull information? (.Net 4.0)

  I am attempting to make a program that will pull data such as OS, IP, Server Name, Websites, Databases, etc. in a server farm. Is there a .Net library that allows you to connect to servers and get information such as this with the proper authentication? I do not really know where to start, thank you.
