  • Moving 2d objects on a 3d plane - AS3

    - by Borkz
I have a 2d plane rotated on its x axis, with 2d display objects I want to move around on the plane. Its pretty similar to a chess board: http://static.open.salon.com/files/chess011237853612.jpg The board is a rotated rectangle, and the pieces are just 2d display objects. Whats the easiest way to manipulate those objects so they appear to be moving on the board?

  • Tell smarty to print block as is

    - by Juriy
Hello guys, I need to inline some javascript code into the Smarty template files and these {ldelim} {rdelim} things are killing me. Is there a way to tell smarty to ignore the markup for a block and just output it as is? Something similar to CDATA blocks in the xml? Just in case: here is how simple javascript looks now: $(function() {ldelim} $( "#slides" ).accessNews({ldelim} speed : "{$speed}", slideBy : 1 {rdelim}); {rdelim}); creepy heh?

  • Dynamic memory managment under Linux

    - by petersohn
I know that under Windows, there are API functions like global_alloc() and such, which allocate memory, and return a handle, then this handle can be locked and a pointer returned, then unlocked again. When unlocked, the system can move this piece of memory around when it runs low on space, optimising memory usage. My question is that is there something similar under Linux, and if not, how does Linux optimize its memory usage?

When a user click on the search button, i am displaying the results in the above mentioned div tag. I have a requirement to close the above div tag when the user clicks outside the div tag. It is similar to google search auto comlete. Thanks in advance.

  • How can I connect to SQL Server using (local)\INSTANCE_NAME?

    - by Brandon
I have a developer that is having trouble connecting to a SQL Server instance by entering the server name (local)\HIS_SERVER_INSTANCE into Visual Studio-Server Explorer. If he replaces (local) with his machine name, it connects fine. I have had similar issues before but they seemed to fix themselves. Does anyone know a fix for this?

  • Remove never-run call to templated function, get allocation error on run-time

    - by Narfanator
First off, I'm a bit at a loss as to how to ask this question. So I'm going to try throwing lots of information at the problem. Ok, so, I went to completely redesign my test project for my experimental core library thingy. I use a lot of template shenanigans in the library. When I removed the "user" code, the tests gave me a memory allocation error. After quite a bit of experimenting, I narrowed it down to this bit of code (out of a couple hundred lines): void VOODOO(components::switchBoard &board){ board.addComponent<using_allegro::keyInputs<'w'> >(); } Fundementally, what's weirding me out is that it appears that the act of compiling this function (and the template function it then uses, and the template functions those then use...), makes this bug not appear. This code is not being run. Similar code (the same, but for different key vals) occurs elsewhere, but is within Boost TDD code. I realize I certainly haven't given enough information for you to solve it for me; I tried, but it more-or-less spirals into most of the code base. I think I'm most looking for "here's what the problem could be", "here's where to look", etc. There's something that's happening during compile because of this line, but I don't know enough about that step to begin looking. Sooo, how can a (presumably) compilied, but never actually run, bit of templated code, when removed, cause another part of code to fail? Error: Unhandled exceptionat 0x6fe731ea (msvcr90d.dll) in Switchboard.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0xcdcdcdc1. Callstack: operator delete(void * pUser Data) allocator< class name related to key inputs callbacks ::deallocate vector< same class ::_Insert_n(...) vector< " " ::insert(...) vector<" "::push_back(...) • Why is a c++ reference considered safer than a pointer?

    - by anand.arumug
    When the c++ compiler generates very similar assembler code for a reference and pointer, why is using references preferred (and considered safer) compared to pointers? I did see Difference between pointer variable and reference variable in C++ which discusses the differences between them. EDIT-1: I was looking at the assembler code generated by g++ for this small program: int main(int argc, char* argv[]) { int a; int &ra = a; int *pa = &a; }

  • Paginating data, has to be a better way

    - by John Tyler
I've read like 10 or so "tutorials", and they all involve the same thing: Pull a count of the data set Pull the relevant data set (LIMIT, OFFSET) IE: SELECT COUNT(*) FROM table WHERE something = ? SELECT * FROM table WHERE something =? LIMIT ? offset ?` Two very similar queries, no? There has to be a better way to do this, my dataset is 600,000+ rows and already sluggish (results are determined by over 30 where clauses, and vary from user to user, but are properly indexed of course).

  • Server.Execute - render .ASP from MVC controller action

    - by David Lively
I need to render an ASP page to a string from an MVC controller action. I can use Server.Execute() to render a .aspx page, but not a .asp page. Here's what I'm using: public ActionResult Index() { Server.Execute("/default.asp"); return new EmptyResult(); } which returns `No http handler was found for request type 'GET'` Any suggestions? I can do something similar with with a web request, but I'd rather avoid the overhead of a loopback request.

  • Warning: newtype `CInt' is used in an FFI declaration,

    - by vivian
When building gtk2hs-buildtools with ghc 7.4.2, I get the following warning: c2hs/toplevel/C2HSConfig.hs:110:1: Warning: newtype `CInt' is used in an FFI declaration, but its constructor is not in scope. This will become an error in GHC 7.6.1. When checking declaration: foreign import ccall safe "static bitfield_direction" bitfield_direction :: CInt I get similar warnings with FFI calls, even though I have import Foreign.C.Types(CInt). What is the correct way of getting rid of this warning?

  • Creating a wine static executable?

    - by asdf
Hi, I have some windows command line applications, in binary form (I do not have the source code) which I use frequently. Sometimes I need to run them in Linux machines, and it works perfectly under wine (wine is not an emulator). The problem I'm facing now is that I need to work on a cluster which has not wine installed on it. I wonder if it is possible to create in another similar linux machine kind of a static executable or so, so i can run this windows program on the cluster Thanks

  • Making a CMS extendable by plugins - examples

    - by Anant
I'm working on an open source script. I would like to provide a feature to extend the script by use of plugins/modules. I need some recommendations on open source cms/scripts to study code from, to gather the best practices on making script extendable by plugins. I've used WordPress in the past, and was planning to implement a similar system, but I'm looking to dive into alternatives, which might be better. Language preferred is PHP 5

I have some content that's being loaded with ajax, and need that content to get the same event connections. dojo.query(".allTheseElements").connect("onclick", function() { /***/ } And then have the dynamically loaded content fire on this too.

  • Memory randomization as application security enhancement?

    - by Paul Sasik
I recently came upon a Microsoft article that touted new "defensive enhancements" of Windows 7. Specifically: Address space layout randomization (ASLR) Heap randomization Stack randomization The article went on to say that "...some of these defenses are in the core operating system, and the Microsoft Visual C++ compiler offers others" but didn't explain how these strategies would actually increase security. Anyone know why memory randomization increases security, if at all? Do other platforms and compilers employ similar strategies?
