  • Linksys router cannot change default password

    - by Jessica M.
My wireless internet suddenly stopped working today. I have Windows 7 and Lindsys WRT54G router. I tried to log into the Linksys setup router page by typing in www.192.168.1.1 into firefox and it prompted me for a username and password as usual. The problem is when i tried to enter my regular username and password it did not work. I finally solved my problem when I came across this post here and the very last post solved my problem. It suggested I try username: root / password: admin. For some reason the username and password has been changed. When i tried username: root / password: admin , it worked and allowed me to get into the Linksys setup page. The problem is I can't change the username or password anymore. Every time I want to log into my Linksys setup page I have to enter username: root / password: admin. I can't change the "WPA shared key" (password). For the security settings I selected WPA2Personal + AES. Also the post said "If the firmware was upgraded to non-linksys firmware - the default will be different" . The problem is I didn't update anything and I'm worried that someone installed a virus or something or somehow changed the firmware on my router. How did I get non-Linksys firmware on my router? EDIT: I figured out how to change the password when I log into the Lynksys setup page. Administration -- Management -- password. I still don't understand if my router firmware was changed or who changed it or if it happened by mistake.

  • Unknown user in terminal

    - by Giles B
Im having a strange problem with the terminal in OS X. When I open the terminal the username at the command prompt is: unknown-04-0c-ce-e3-0d-c2: ~ I can't pinpoint when this first started or why unfortunately. I usually use iTerm for web development purposes but this also occurs in the normal OS X Terminal app. Any ideas/help would be really appreciated. Thanks Update: Thanks to @fayadfami and @aliasgar for the correct answers and steering me in the right direction. Also this forum post helped http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=152407 The extract from the right post: Having run into the exact same issue myself, and having come across this thread while attempting to figure it out, I thought I'd post the answer. OS X is initially setting your hostname to what's set for your Computer Name in Sharing; however, if you're set up for DHCP and you match a current lease on your DHCP server (i.e., match the IP address of another recent user), OS X will then set your hostname to whatever the DHCP server currently has for that lease. This freaked me out incredibly at first, as I had just reformatted (having just purchased my first Mac and wanting to see how the installer worked) and knew I had not yet changed the Computer Name in Sharing -- yet my system hostname at the Terminal prompt was indeed changed to what I had previously set, pre-format. I grepped around, not finding the name anywhere save log entries; I thought either the format didn't actually properly wipe everything, or I was losing my mind. Finally I logged into my router (it's a Linksys WRT54GS running OpenWRT), and found the hostname in the current leases file. I then manually set my Mac's IP to something different, and volia! -- the hostname was back to what I expected. I hope this helps save someone from the same paranoia I went through.

  • Why won't this script accept any arguments?

    - by Nate Wagar
I'm trying to write an SVN post-commit hook and, strangely, am getting hung up on what should be the easiest part. The Script: set REPO="$1" set REV="$2" set SVNBIN="/opt/CollabNet_Subversion/bin/" set SSHBIN="/usr/bin/ssh" set HOST="staging.domain.net" set timeout=30 set USERNAME="svn-usr" set E_NO_CONNECT=2 set E_WRONG_PASS=3 set E_UNKOWN=25 set CHANGED=`"$SVNBIN"svnlook changed --revision $REV $REPOS` echo "Here are changes: $CHANGED" >> /var/svn/repos/www/logs/testing echo "Command: $0; Repo: $REPO; Rev: $REV; Total: $#" >> /var/svn/repos/www/logs/testing set PROJECT "" Yet when I call it, it doesn't seem to be seeing the arguments I pass to it: /var/svn/repos/www/logs> sudo ../hooks/post-commit /var/svn/repos/www 33 svnlook: missing argument: --revision Type 'svnlook help' for usage. /var/svn/repos/www/logs> cat testing Here are changes: Command: ../hooks/post-commit; Repo: ; Rev: ; Total: 1 This is on a Solaris 10 SPARC box. I'm a bit of a script newbie, but shouldn't this be really easy??

  • Need Corrected htaccess File

    - by Vince Kronlein
I'm attempting to use a wordpress plugin called WP Fast Cache which creates static html files from all your posts, pages and categories. It creates the following directory structure inside wp-content: wp_fast_cache example.com pagename index.html categoryname postname index.html basically just a nested directory structure and a final index.html for each item. But the htaccess edits it makes are crazy. #start_wp_fast_cache - do not remove this comment <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{REQUEST_METHOD} ^(GET) RewriteCond /home/user/public_html/wp-content/wp_fast_cache/%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI}x__query__x%{QUERY_STRING}index.html -f RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} !(iPhone|Windows\sCE|BlackBerry|NetFront|Opera\sMini|Palm\sOS|Blazer|Elaine|^WAP.*$|Plucker|AvantGo|Nokia) RewriteCond %{HTTP_COOKIE} !(wordpress_logged_in) [NC] RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /home/user/public_html/wp-content/wp_fast_cache/%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI}x__query__x%{QUERY_STRING}index.html [L] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_METHOD} ^(GET) RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} ^$ RewriteCond /home/user/public_html/wp-content/wp_fast_cache/%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI}index.html -f RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} !(iPhone|Windows\sCE|BlackBerry|NetFront|Opera\sMini|Palm\sOS|Blazer|Elaine|^WAP.*$|Plucker|AvantGo|Nokia) RewriteCond %{HTTP_COOKIE} !(wordpress_logged_in) [NC] RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /home/user/public_html/wp-content/wp_fast_cache/%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI}index.html [L] </IfModule> #end_wp_fast_cache No matter how I try and work this out I get a 404 not found. And not the Wordpress 404, and janky apache 404. I need to find the correct syntax to route all requests that don't exist ie: files or directories to: wp-content/wp_fast_cache/hostname/request_uri/ So for example: Page: example.com/about-us/ => wp-content/wp_page_cache/example.com/about-us/index.html Post: example.com/my-category/my-awesome-post/ => wp-content/wp_fast_cache/example.com/my-category/my-awesome-post/index.html Category: example.com/news/ => wp-content/wp_fast_cache/example.com/news/index.html Any help is appreciated.

  • Wget save cookies not working

    - by TrymBeast
I've been trying to login in the pyload through the web api, but wget is not saving the cookies and I don't understand why. I'm using the following command: wget --delete-after --keep-session-cookies --save-cookies=my_cookies.txt --post-data="username=USERNAME&password=PASSWORD" http://localhost:8000/api/login But the content of my_cookies.txt is: # HTTP cookie file. # Generated by Wget on 2012-06-23 22:31:33. # Edit at your own risk. • .ashx cannot find type error on IIS7 , no problems on webdev server

    - by Aivan Monceller
I am trying to make AspNetComet.zip work on IIS7 (a simple comet chat implementation) Here is a portion of my web.config. <system.web> <httpHandlers> <add verb="POST" path="DefaultChannel.ashx" type="Server.Channels.DefaultChannelHandler, Server"/> </httpHandlers> </system.web> <system.webServer> <handlers> <add name="DefaultChannelHandler" verb="POST" path="DefaultChannel.ashx" type="Server.Channels.DefaultChannelHandler, Server"/> </handlers> </system.webServer> When I publish the website on my localhost IIS7 I receive an error: POST http://localhost/DefaultChannel.ashx 500 Internal Server Error Could not load type 'Server.Channels.DefaultChannelHandler The target framework of this project is .Net 2.0 I tried the Classic and Integrated Mode application pool for .Net 2.0 with no luck. I also tried converting the project to 4.0 and tried the Classic and Integrated Mode application pool for .Net 4.0 with no luck. I also tried adding the managed handler through IIS Manager's Handler Mappings. If you have time please download the source (184kb) to reproduce the problem on your own machine. The zip contains a VS2010 solution (.Net 2.0). You could also try to convert this to .Net 4.0 I am using Windows 7 anyway if that matters. If you need more details, please drop your comments below. This is working fine by the way on my webdev server.

  • Has anyone managed to build php5-xapian on Ubuntu 12.04?

    - by jetboy
As Xapian's been dropped from the Ubuntu repositories, I'm attempting to build my own .deb from the instructions here: http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.search.xapian.general/8855 http://beeznest.wordpress.com/2011/07/06/howto-build-your-own-binaries-of-php-xapian-bindings-for-debian/ I can only get things to progress beyond the first few seconds by leaving out 'rm debian/control', but if I do, it looks as if the Python and Ruby bindings are building and passing their versions of smoketest correctly. However, the PHP part of the build is failing with this error: /home/charlie/xapian-bindings-1.2.8/php/smoketest.php:38: include(xapian.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory FAIL: smoketest.php There's a xapian.php file in /home/charlie/xapian-bindings-1.2.8/php/php5/ but if I copy it to /home/charlie/xapian-bindings-1.2.8/php/ or change the path to it in smoketest.php, the build fails right near the start with: dpkg-source: error: aborting due to unexpected upstream changes Unfortunately I'm out of my comfort zone building from source. Anyone got any ideas? Edit post James' answer: Builds fine if I follow instructions exactly. I built it on a test VM initially, but that didn't build the PHP package as PHP itself wasn't installed. Obvious gotcha, but worth mentioning. Installing generated the following error: Setting up php5-xapian (1.2.8-1) ... Processing triggers for libapache2-mod-php5 ... dpkg (subprocess): unable to execute installed post-installation script (/var/lib/dpkg/info/libapache2-mod-php5.postinst): Permission denied ssion denied dpkg: error processing libapache2-mod-php5 (--install): subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2 Errors were encountered while processing: libapache2-mod-php5 It's only a script for restarting Apache. Stopping Apache before running sudo dpkg -i php5-xapian_*.deb prevents the error. Xapian now shows up in phpinfo(). Job done. Thanks.

  • Juniper’s Network Connect ncsvc on Linux: “host checker failed, error 10”

    - by hfs
I’m trying to log in to a Juniper VPN with Network Connect from a headless Linux client. I followed the instructions and used the script from http://mad-scientist.us/juniper.html. When running the script with --nogui switch the command that gets finally executed is $HOME/.juniper_networks/network_connect/ncsvc -h HOST -u USER -r REALM -f $HOME/.vpn.default.crt. I get asked for the password, a line “Connecting to…” is printed but then the programm silently stops. When adding -L 5 (most verbose logging) to the command line, these are the last messages printed to the log: dsclient.info state: kStateCacheCleaner (dsclient.cpp:280) dsclient.info --> POST /dana-na/cc/ccupdate.cgi (authenticate.cpp:162) http_connection.para Entering state_start_connection (http_connection.cpp:282) http_connection.para Entering state_continue_connection (http_connection.cpp:299) http_connection.para Entering state_ssl_connect (http_connection.cpp:468) dsssl.para SSL connect ssl=0x833e568/sd=4 connection using cipher RC4-MD5 (DSSSLSock.cpp:656) http_connection.para Returning DSHTTP_COMPLETE from state_ssl_connect (http_connection.cpp:476) DSHttp.debug state_reading_response_body - copying 0 buffered bytes (http_requester.cpp:800) DSHttp.debug state_reading_response_body - recv'd 0 bytes data (http_requester.cpp:833) dsclient.info <-- 200 (authenticate.cpp:194) dsclient.error state host checker failed, error 10 (dsclient.cpp:282) ncapp.error Failed to authenticate with IVE. Error 10 (ncsvc.cpp:197) dsncuiapi.para DsNcUiApi::~DsNcUiApi (dsncuiapi.cpp:72) What does host checker failed mean? How can I find out what it tried to check and what failed? The HostChecker Configuration Guide mentions that a $HOME/.juniper_networks/tncc.jar gets installed on Linux, but my installation contains no such file. From that I concluded that HostChecker is disabled for my VPN on Linux? Are the POST to /dana-na/cc/ccupdate.cgi and “host checker failed” connected or independent? By running the connection over a SSL proxy I found out that the POST data is status=NOTOK (Funny side note: the client of the oh-so-secure VPN does not validate the server’s SSL certificate, so is wide open to MITM attacks…). So it seems that it’s the client that closes the connection and not the server.

  • Apache Reverse proxy Http to https

    - by Coppes
I have a website which is fully running on Https. For some reason i did get the task to find a way to convert a url for example: http://www.domain.com/a/e-nc/youless to a https version of it, without losing HTTP POST header such as the POST values which are in it. So i thought (not even sure) let's try to make a reversed proxy in apache and see how that works. Anyway after a lot of struggling i came to the point to ask it here. So to be speicific my goal is: Convert the http://www.domain.com/a/e-nc/youless to https://www.domain.com/a/e-nc/youless without losing the POST conditions. What i have tried until now is the following: Created a file called: proxiedhosts in my apache2/sites-enabled folder with the following contents: SSLProxyEngine On SSLProxyCACertificateFile /etc/apache2/ssl/certificate****.pem ProxyRequests Off ProxyPreserveHost On <Proxy *> Order allow, deny Allow from all </Proxy> ProxyPass /a/e-nc/youless/ https://www.domain.com/a/e-nc/youless/ ProxyPassReverse /a/e-nc/youless/ https://www.domain.com/a/e-nc/youless/ Thanks in advance!

  • CloudFront for dynamic content CDN

    - by Elad Lachmi
I would like to use CF as a CDN for my entire site, including static and dynamic content. I have been using CF for static content for a while and I am very happy with the results. I am now doing POC of putting the web server completely behind CF. For the dynamic content I created a new distribution and set the origin to be my web server. Right now I'm looking to test the solution, so I have the web server on the original domain and the CF distribution on the amazon domain. This works with the exception of HTTPS urls and POST requests. For HTTPS requests, I see the requests are forwarded to the original site domain for now, but how will CF handle them when I move the distribution to the www cname? What configuration changes should I make so that CF forwards HTTPS requests to the origin? For POST requests, I want the post to be made to the origin server. Can I set this up in CF? Finally, the site has membership. Can I configure CF to pull all content from the origin if the user is logged in? Sorry for the long question. I'm a little lost and documentation for dynamic CF is still kind of scarce. Thank you!

  • Sudden and frequent hangs on desktop computer: mobo or CPU fault?

    - by djechelon
I have a desktop computer equipped with an ASUS Crosshair 2 Formula and a Phenom x6 3.2GHz CPU. My problem is that often the computer will hang all of a sudden, completely stopping responding. When that occurs, reset key is inoperative and power button turns the computer off but is unable to turn it back on. I have to physically disconnect power cable. The problem can occur anytime, when I'm booting Windows, when I'm logging in, when I'm listening to a song, when I'm browsing Internet, etc. It always occurs after very few minutes of 3D gameplay I thought it was a video card fault. I had 3 8800GTX so I could try all combinations of them: didn't fix I thought it was a RAM problem: I tried running with only a subset of my DDR2 banks but didn't fix. Almost every time I have to reset and reconfigure BIOS (without AHCI, Win7 won't boot, so I need to restore a few things). If I enable AMD Live, Cool&Quiet or other things from CPU configuration menu I'll be sure that the computer won't reach Windows desktop in 99% of cases (it randomly hangs somewhere in the boot process or even in the BIOS POST). Another interesting thing is that during the POST process the computer always takes unusually long time detecting USB devices (LCD POSTer shows USB INIT), and I've also tried disconnecting all USB devices but didn't take less time to POST BIOS revision is 2702, the latest. Today I found a different behaviour once: during boot screen I got a BSOD with error Stop 0x00000101 A clock interrupt was not received on a secondary processor within the allocated time interval, and this is usually related to overclocking, but I never overclocked my CPU. Judging from the description of my problem, hoping someone had the same and fixed, and since I don't have a spare CPU or motherboard for replacement, I'd like to ask if you think this is a problem with faulty CPU or faulty motherboard, and if I can perform additional tests (I mean software tests because of my lack of spare components) to identify the component to replace.

  • (updated) Subfolder needs whitelist and standard redirect for all others

    - by Superstrong
How can I allow access to the foo.html files in the .com/song/private/ subfolder for: a logged-in Wordpress user; or any referral domains (including subfolders) I add; or any URL on our own domain from the com/song/private folder; For all others, the user should be redirected to the corresponding public version of the Post, which is the same html filename and structured .com/song/foo.html. (The private versions uses a different template with different custom fields for each Post.) Update: Here's what I have so far: <Limit GET POST> order deny, allow deny from all allow from domain.com/song/private allow from otherdomain.com </Limit> RewriteRule ^(.*)$ ../$ [NC,L] More: Will that last rewrite rule take people back to the public version, from com/song/private/foo.html to com/song/foo.html? I found the following rule for detecting Wordpress logged-in status, but what do I put aferward with a RewriteRule, and will it work anyway? (If not, is there an alternative?) RewriteCond %{HTTP_COOKIE} !^.*wordpress_logged_in_.*$ N.B. I have added code to my root .htaccess allowing me to insert additional .htaccess files in other subfolders as needed. Copied from Stack Overflow, where they suggested I ask here.

  • This is the End of Business as Usual...

    - by Michael Snow
This week, we'll be hosting our last Social Business Thought Leader Series Webcast for 2012. Our featured guest this week will be Brian Solis of Altimeter Group. As we've been going through the preparations for Brian's webcast, it became very clear that an hour's time is barely scraping the surface of the depth of Brian's insights and analysis. Accordingly, in the spirit of sharing Brian's perspective for all of our readers, we'll be featuring guest posts all this week pulled from Brian's larger collection of blog postings on his own website. If you like what you've read here this week, we highly recommend digging deeper into his tome of wisdom. Guest Post by Brian Solis, Analyst, Altimeter Group as originally featured on his site with the minor change of the video addition at the beginning of the post. This is the End of Business as Usual and the Beginning of a New Era of Relevance - Brian Solis, Principal Analyst, Altimeter Group The Times They Are A-Changin’ Come gather ’round people Wherever you roam And admit that the waters Around you have grown And accept it that soon You’ll be drenched to the bone If your time to you Is worth savin’ Then you better start swimmin’ Or you’ll sink like a stone For the times they are a-changin’. - Bob Dylan I’m sure you are wondering why I chose lyrics to open this article. If you skimmed through them, stop here for a moment. Go back through the Dylan’s words and take your time. Carefully read, and feel, what it is he’s saying and savor the moment to connect the meaning of his words to the challenges you face today. His message is as important and true today as it was when they were first written in 1964. The tide is indeed once again turning. And even though the 60s now live in the history books, right here, right now, Dylan is telling us once again that this is our time to not only sink or swim, but to do something amazing. This is your time. This is our time. But, these times are different and what comes next is difficult to grasp. How people communicate. How people learn and share. How people make decisions. Everything is different now. Think about this…you’re reading this article because it was sent to you via email. Yet more people spend their online time in social networks than they do in email. Duh. According to Nielsen, of the total time spent online 22.5% are connecting and communicating in social networks. To put that in perspective, the time spent in the likes of Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube is greater than online gaming at 9.8%, email at 7.6% and search at 4%. Imagine for a moment if you and I were connected to one another in Facebook, which just so happens to be the largest social network in the world. How big? Well, Facebook is the size today of the entire Internet in 2004. There are over 1 billion people friending, Liking, commenting, sharing, and engaging in Facebook…that’s roughly 12% of the world’s population. Twitter has over 200 million users. Ever hear of tumblr? More time is spent on this popular microblogging community than Twitter. The point is that the landscape for communication and all that’s affected by human interaction is profoundly different than how you and I learned, shared or talked to one another yesterday. This transformation is only becoming more pervasive and, it’s not going back. Survival of the Fitting But social media is just one of the channels we can use to reach people. I must be honest. I’m as much a part of tomorrow as I am of yesteryear. It’s why I spend all of my time researching the evolution of media and its impact on business and culture. Because of you, I share everything I learn in newsletters, emails, blogs, Youtube videos, and also traditional books. I’m dedicated to helping everyone not only understand, but grasp the change that’s before you. Technologies such as social, mobile, virtual, augmented, et al compel us adapt our story and value proposition and extend our reach to be part of communities we don’t realize exist. The people who will keep you in business or running tomorrow are the very people you’re not reaching today. Before you continue to read on, allow me to clarify my point of view. My inspiration for writing this is to help you augment, not necessarily replace, the programs you’re running today. We must still reach those whom matter to us in the ways they prefer to be engaged. To reach what I call the connected consumer of Geneeration-C we must too reach them in the ways they wish to be engaged. And in all of my work, how they connect, talk to one another, influence others, and make decisions are not at all like the traditional consumers of the past. Nor are they merely the kids…the Millennial. Connected consumers are representative across every age group and demographic. As you can see, use of social networks, media sharing sites, microblogs, blogs, etc. equally span across Gen Y, Gen X, and Baby Boomers. The DNA of connected customers is indiscriminant of age or any other demographic for that matter. This is more about psychographics, the linkage of people through common interests (than it is their age, gender, education, nationality or level of income. Once someone is introduced to the marvels of connectedness, the sensation becomes a contagion. It touches and affects everyone. And, that’s why this isn’t going anywhere but normalcy. Social networking isn’t just about telling people what you’re doing. Nor is it just about generic, meaningless conversation. Today’s connected consumer is incredibly influential. They’re connected to hundreds and even thousands of other like-minded people. What they experiences, what they support, it’s shared throughout these networks and as information travels, it shapes and steers impressions, decisions, and experiences of others. For example, if we revisit the Nielsen research, we get an idea of just how big this is becoming. 75% spend heavily on music. How does that translate to the arts? I’d imagine the number is equally impressive. If 53% follow their favorite brand or organization, imagine what’s possible. Just like this email list that connects us, connections in social networks are powerful. The difference is however, that people spend more time in social networks than they do in email. Everything begins with an understanding of the “5 W’s and H.E.” – Who, What, When, Where, How, and to What Extent? The data that comes back tells you which networks are important to the people you’re trying to reach, how they connect, what they share, what they value, and how to connect with them. From there, your next steps are to create a community strategy that extends your mission, vision, and value and it align it with the interests, behavior, and values of those you wish to reach and galvanize. To help, I’ve prepared an action list for you, otherwise known as the 10 Steps Toward New Relevance: 1. Answer why you should engage in social networks and why anyone would want to engage with you 2. Observe what brings them together and define how you can add value to the conversation 3. Identify the influential voices that matter to your world, recognize what’s important to them, and find a way to start a dialogue that can foster a meaningful and mutually beneficial relationship 4. Study the best practices of not just organizations like yours, but also those who are successfully reaching the type of people you’re trying to reach – it’s benching marking against competitors and benchmarking against undefined opportunities 5. Translate all you’ve learned into a convincing presentation written to demonstrate tangible opportunity to your executive board, make the case through numbers, trends, data, insights – understanding they have no idea what’s going on out there and you are both the scout and the navigator (start with a recommended pilot so everyone can learn together) 6. Listen to what they’re saying and develop a process to learn from activity and adapt to interests and steer engagement based on insights 7. Recognize how they use social media and innovate based on what you observe to captivate their attention 8. Align your objectives with their objectives. If you’re unsure of what they’re looking for…ask 9. Invest in the development of content, engagement 10. Build a community, invest in values, spark meaningful dialogue, and offer tangible value…the kind of value they can’t get anywhere else. Take advantage of the medium and the opportunity! The reality is that we live and compete in a perpetual era of Digital Darwinism, the evolution of consumer behavior when society and technology evolve faster than our ability to adapt. This is why it’s our time to alter our course. We must connect with those who are defining the future of engagement, commerce, business, and how the arts are appreciated and supported. Even though it is the end of business as usual, it is the beginning of a new age of opportunity. The consumer revolution is already underway, and the question is: How do you better understand the role you play in this production as a connected or social consumer as well as business professional? Again, this is your time to define a new era of engagement and relevance. • Should we hire someone who writes C in Perl?

    - by paxdiablo
    One of my colleagues recently interviewed some candidates for a job and one said they had very good Perl experience. Since my colleague didn't know Perl, he asked me for a critique of some code written (off-site) by that potential hire, so I had a look and told him my concerns (the main one was that it originally had no comments and it's not like we gave them enough time). However, the code works so I'm loathe to say no-go without some more input. Another concern is that this code basically looks exactly how I'd code it in C. It's been a while since I did Perl (and I didn't do a lot, I'm more a Python bod for quick scripts) but I seem to recall that it was a much more expressive language than what this guy used. I'm looking for input from real Perl coders, and suggestions for how it could be improved (and why a Perl coder should know that method of improvement). You can also wax lyrical about whether people who write one language in a totally different language should (or shouldn't be hired). I'm interested in your arguments but this question is primarily for a critique of the code. The spec was to successfully process a CSV file as follows and output the individual fields: User ID,Name , Level,Numeric ID pax, Pax Morgan ,admin,0 gt," Turner, George" rubbish,user,1 ms,"Mark \"X-Men\" Spencer","guest user",2 ab,, "user","3" The output was to be something like this (the potential hire's code actually output this): User ID,Name , Level,Numeric ID: [User ID] [Name] [Level] [Numeric ID] pax, Pax Morgan ,admin,0: [pax] [Pax Morgan] [admin] [0] gt," Turner, George " rubbish,user,1: [gt] [ Turner, George ] [user] [1] ms,"Mark \"X-Men\" Spencer","guest user",2: [ms] [Mark "X-Men" Spencer] [guest user] [2] ab,, "user","3": [ab] [] [user] [3] Here is the code they submitted: #!/usr/bin/perl # Open file. open (IN, "qq.in") || die "Cannot open qq.in"; # Process every line. while (<IN>) { chomp; $line = $_; print "$line:\n"; # Process every field in line. while ($line ne "") { # Skip spaces and start with empty field. if (substr ($line,0,1) eq " ") { $line = substr ($line,1); next; } $field = ""; $minlen = 0; # Detect quoted field or otherwise. if (substr ($line,0,1) eq "\"") { $line = substr ($line,1); $pastquote = 0; while ($line ne "") { # Special handling for quotes (\\ and \"). if (length ($line) >= 2) { if (substr ($line,0,2) eq "\\\"") { $field = $field . "\""; $line = substr ($line,2); next; } if (substr ($line,0,2) eq "\\\\") { $field = $field . "\\"; $line = substr ($line,2); next; } } # Detect closing quote. if (($pastquote == 0) && (substr ($line,0,1) eq "\"")) { $pastquote = 1; $line = substr ($line,1); $minlen = length ($field); next; } # Only worry about comma if past closing quote. if (($pastquote == 1) && (substr ($line,0,1) eq ",")) { $line = substr ($line,1); last; } $field = $field . substr ($line,0,1); $line = substr ($line,1); } } else { while ($line ne "") { if (substr ($line,0,1) eq ",") { $line = substr ($line,1); last; } if ($pastquote == 0) { $field = $field . substr ($line,0,1); } $line = substr ($line,1); } } # Strip trailing space. while ($field ne "") { if (length ($field) == $minlen) { last; } if (substr ($field,length ($field)-1,1) eq " ") { $field = substr ($field,0, length ($field)-1); next; } last; } print " [$field]\n"; } } close (IN);

  • How and where to implement basic authentication in Kibana 3

    - by Jabb
I have put my elasticsearch server behind a Apache reverse proxy that provides basic authentication. Authenticating to Apache directly from the browser works fine. However, when I use Kibana 3 to access the server, I receive authentication errors. Obviously because no auth headers are sent along with Kibana's Ajax calls. I added the below to elastic-angular-client.js in the Kibana vendor directory to implement authentication quick and dirty. But for some reason it does not work. $http.defaults.headers.common.Authorization = 'Basic ' + Base64Encode('user:Password'); What is the best approach and place to implement basic authentication in Kibana? /*! elastic.js - v1.1.1 - 2013-05-24 * https://github.com/fullscale/elastic.js * Copyright (c) 2013 FullScale Labs, LLC; Licensed MIT */ /*jshint browser:true */ /*global angular:true */ 'use strict'; /* Angular.js service wrapping the elastic.js API. This module can simply be injected into your angular controllers. */ angular.module('elasticjs.service', []) .factory('ejsResource', ['$http', function ($http) { return function (config) { var // use existing ejs object if it exists ejs = window.ejs || {}, /* results are returned as a promise */ promiseThen = function (httpPromise, successcb, errorcb) { return httpPromise.then(function (response) { (successcb || angular.noop)(response.data); return response.data; }, function (response) { (errorcb || angular.noop)(response.data); return response.data; }); }; // check if we have a config object // if not, we have the server url so // we convert it to a config object if (config !== Object(config)) { config = {server: config}; } // set url to empty string if it was not specified if (config.server == null) { config.server = ''; } /* implement the elastic.js client interface for angular */ ejs.client = { server: function (s) { if (s == null) { return config.server; } config.server = s; return this; }, post: function (path, data, successcb, errorcb) { $http.defaults.headers.common.Authorization = 'Basic ' + Base64Encode('user:Password'); console.log($http.defaults.headers); path = config.server + path; var reqConfig = {url: path, data: data, method: 'POST'}; return promiseThen($http(angular.extend(reqConfig, config)), successcb, errorcb); }, get: function (path, data, successcb, errorcb) { $http.defaults.headers.common.Authorization = 'Basic ' + Base64Encode('user:Password'); path = config.server + path; // no body on get request, data will be request params var reqConfig = {url: path, params: data, method: 'GET'}; return promiseThen($http(angular.extend(reqConfig, config)), successcb, errorcb); }, put: function (path, data, successcb, errorcb) { $http.defaults.headers.common.Authorization = 'Basic ' + Base64Encode('user:Password'); path = config.server + path; var reqConfig = {url: path, data: data, method: 'PUT'}; return promiseThen($http(angular.extend(reqConfig, config)), successcb, errorcb); }, del: function (path, data, successcb, errorcb) { $http.defaults.headers.common.Authorization = 'Basic ' + Base64Encode('user:Password'); path = config.server + path; var reqConfig = {url: path, data: data, method: 'DELETE'}; return promiseThen($http(angular.extend(reqConfig, config)), successcb, errorcb); }, head: function (path, data, successcb, errorcb) { $http.defaults.headers.common.Authorization = 'Basic ' + Base64Encode('user:Password'); path = config.server + path; // no body on HEAD request, data will be request params var reqConfig = {url: path, params: data, method: 'HEAD'}; return $http(angular.extend(reqConfig, config)) .then(function (response) { (successcb || angular.noop)(response.headers()); return response.headers(); }, function (response) { (errorcb || angular.noop)(undefined); return undefined; }); } }; return ejs; }; }]); UPDATE 1: I implemented Matts suggestion. However, the server returns a weird response. It seems that the authorization header is not working. Could it have to do with the fact, that I am running Kibana on port 81 and elasticsearch on 8181? There are quite a few posts available regarding that topic but it appears that in order to solve my problem, it would be necessary to to make some very granular configurations on apache and also make sure that the right stuff is sent from the browser. So I reconsidered the strategy and found a much simpler solution. Just modify the vhost reverse proxy config to move the elastisearch server AND kibana on the same http port. This also adds even better security to Kibana. This is what I did: <VirtualHost *:8181> ProxyRequests Off ProxyPass /bigdatadesk/ http://127.0.0.1:81/bigdatadesk/src/ ProxyPassReverse /bigdatadesk/ http://127.0.0.1:81/bigdatadesk/src/ ProxyPass / http://127.0.0.1:9200/ ProxyPassReverse / https://127.0.0.1:9200/ <Location /> Order deny, allow Allow from all AuthType Basic AuthName “Username/Password” AuthUserFile /var/www/.htpasswd Require valid-user </Location> ErrorLog ${APACHE_LOG_DIR}/error.log </VirtualHost>

  • Issues POSTing XML to OAuth and Signature Invalid with Ruby OAuth Gem

    - by thynctank
[Cross-posted from the OAuth Ruby Google Group. If you couldn't help me there, don't worry bout it] I'm working on integrating a project with TripIt's OAuth API and am running into a weird issue. I authenticate fine, I store and retrieve the token/secret for a given user with no problem, I can even make GET requests to a number of services using the gem. But when I try using the one service I need POST for, I'm getting a 401 "invalid signature" response. Perhaps I'm not understanding how to pass in data to the AccessToken's post method, so here's a sample of my code: xml = <<-XML <Request> <Trip> <start_date>2008-12-09</start_date> <end_date>2008-12-27</end_date> <primary_location>New York, NY</primary_location> </Trip> </Request> XML` response = access_token.post('/v1/create', {:xml => xml}, {'Content-Type' => 'application/x-www-form-urlencoded'}) I've tried this with and without escaping the xml string before hand. The guys at TripIt seemed to think that perhaps the xml param wasn't getting included in the signature_base_string, but when I output that (from lib/signature/base.rb) I see: POST&https%3A%2F%2Fapi.tripit.com%2Fv1%2Fcreate&oauth_consumer_key %3D%26oauth_nonce %3Djs73Y9caeuffpmPVc6lqxhlFN3Qpj7OhLcfBTYv8Ww%26oauth_signature_method %3DHMAC-SHA1%26oauth_timestamp%3D1252011612%26oauth_token %3D%26oauth_version%3D1.0%26xml%3D%25253CRequest%25253E %25250A%252520%252520%25253CTrip%25253E%25250A %252520%252520%252520%252520%25253Cstart_date%25253E2008-12-09%25253C %252Fstart_date%25253E%25250A %252520%252520%252520%252520%25253Cend_date%25253E2008-12-27%25253C %252Fend_date%25253E%25250A %252520%252520%252520%252520%25253Cprimary_location%25253ENew %252520York%252C%252520NY%25253C%252Fprimary_location%25253E%25250A %252520%252520%25253C%252FTrip%25253E%25250A%25253C%252FRequest%25253E %25250A This seems to be correct to me. I output signature (from the same file) and the output doesn't match the oauth_signature param of the Auth header in lib/client/ net_http.rb. It's been URL-encoded in the auth header. Is this correct? Anyone know if the gem is broken/if there's a fix somewhere? I'm finding it hard to trace through some of the code.

Dear All: I am reading here http://groovy.codehaus.org/modules/http-builder/doc/handlers.html "In cases where a response sends a redirect status code, this is handled internally by Apache HttpClient, which by default will simply follow the redirect by re-sending the request to the new URL. You do not need to do anything special in order to follow 302 responses." This seems to work fine when I simply use the get() or post() methods without a closure. However, when I use a closure, I seem to lose 302 handling. Is there some way I can handle this myself? Thank you p.s. Here is my log output showing it is a 302 response [java] FINER: resp.statusLine: "HTTP/1.1 302 Found" Here is the relevant code: // Copyright (C) 2010 Misha Koshelev. • Jquery return multiple values in ajax call

    - by Scarface
    I have a jquery post function that returns a response on success after the click of a div. However, I would like to return multiple variables on success. Do I have to use JSON, and if so, is it possible to integrate it into the $.ajax function after success? $.ajax({ type: "POST", data: "action=favorite&username=" + username + "&topic_id=" + topic_id + "&token=" + token, url: "favorite.php", success: function(response) { } });

  • WebKit "Refused to set unsafe header "content-length"

    - by Paul
    I am trying to implement simple xhr abstraction, and am getting this warning when trying to set the headers for a POST. I think it might have something to do with setting the headers in a separate js file, because when i set them in the <script> tag in the .html file, it worked fine. The POST request is working fine, but I get this warning, and am curious why. I get this warning for both content-length and connection headers, but only in WebKit browsers (Chrome 5 beta and Safari 4). In Firefox, I don't get any warnings, the Content-Length header is set to the correct value, but the Connection is set to keep-alive instead of close, which makes me think that it is also ignoring my setRequestHeader calls and generating it's own. I have not tried this code in IE. Here is the markup & code: test.html: <!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <script src="jsfile.js"></script> <script> var request = new Xhr('POST', 'script.php', true, 'data=somedata', function(data) { console.log(data.text); }); </script> </head> <body> </body> </html> jsfile.js: function Xhr(method, url, async, data, callback) { var x; if(window.XMLHttpRequest) { x = new XMLHttpRequest(); x.open(method, url, async); x.onreadystatechange = function() { if(x.readyState === 4) { if(x.status === 200) { var data = { text: x.responseText, xml: x.responseXML }; callback.call(this, data); } } } if(method.toLowerCase() === "post") { x.setRequestHeader("Content-Type", "application/x-www-form-urlencoded"); x.setRequestHeader("Content-Length", data.length); x.setRequestHeader("Connection", "close"); } x.send(data); } else { // ... implement IE code here ... } return x; }

  • URI encode and HTML encode

    - by Anil Namde
If I have the xml/html data to post we need to encode the data to avoid the XSS validation. So should we use HTMLencode or URI encoding for this. If URI encoding is used will it cause issues as form POST automatically URI encode all the data before sending.

  • Fmylife javascript copy-paste into link

    - by davezor
Fmylife.com has a nifty feature that when you copy the text from a post, it actually copies a LINK (html) so that when you paste it into your email/facebook/instant messenger/twitter/whatever it automatically will link to the post, giving them more traffic and more page views and more ad revenue, etc. I looked into their javascript files but can't seem to find how they do it. How would one go about copying this behavior?

  • Google Visualization API chart in Blogger / Blogspot

    - by gotgenes
Is it possible to embed (chart) visualizations created by the Google Visualization API in a Blogger post? I tried stripping out the <head> and <body> tags (and closing tags) from the pie chart example, however, the pie chart visualization fails to render, even on a published post. NOTE: I'm asking about the Visualization API, rather than the Google Image Charts (Charts API).

  • Rails ActiveRecord: Select Posts WITHOUT comments

    - by Nathan
I have a a Comments table and a Posts table, where a Post has many comments and a comment belongs to a post (i.e. it has a post_id in the table). How can I efficiently select the last ten Posts that DO NOT have comments. I can't seem to accomplish this without first selecting all the posts and checking each for a 0 comment count. Thanks in advance for any help. -Nathan
