• Installing a personal security certificate for Windows Server 2008 Terminal Services user

  We use StoneEdge Order Manager, which runs under Microsoft Access, on several Windows computers as well as through Terminal Services on Windows Server 2008. Terminal Services users are unable to process credit cards using the First Data Global Gateway on the server. We have followed the necessary setup instructions provided under the user account, which involves adding a certificate in the Internet Options control panel. The Windows XP desktops require this to be done, or a generic 'unable to connect' message is shown when attempting to charge a card. On the server, this message is shown regardless of whether the certificate has been installed. Is there anything else that needs to be done that is specific to Windows Server that is not mentioned in the workstation instructions? Setup Instructions

• Games + Closed Lid = Hibernation

  I have an ASUS N53S that I mainly bought for its RAM capacity. (I run a lot of VMs.) But as a bonus, it came with a fancy ATI video card. So I decided to install GTA 4 and plug it into a big monitor and settle down for some casual mayhem. But after about 5 minutes, it goes into hibernation! What gives? Since I was using an external monitor and didn't need the keyboard (using an XBox controller) I closed the lid on the laptop. Gaming is compute-intensive, so my GPU and CPU were both working hard and generating heat. Closing the lid interfered with cooling. Since I have the laptop configured to hibernate when I press the power button, the heat-triggered shutdown caused hibernation.

• Nvidia 8600 GT drivers Will not run setup

  I am attempting to upgrade my video card drivers with my nvidia 8600 gt. I downloaded the drivers from NVIDIA and when I run the setup, nothing happens. It does appear in the Processes, but never does anything. I've tried restarting, tried killing the process and re-running, I am an admin account... nothing works. What is wrong? [EDIT] The installer does run, it extracts the setup files to C:\NVIDIA as normal then when it tries to run that setup to do the actual install, nothing happens (the process does show up in Task Manager and just sits there). Attempting to run the installer manually via C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver\296.10\WinXP\English\Setup.exe has the process open, but nothing happens. This machine is WinXP 32bit.

• Force Windows 8 Metro apps to run lower resolutions below 1024x768?

  I have installed Windows 8 Consumer Preview on my Samsung NB30 netbook. I was very excited to try it on this little box cause it has a touchscreen and Windows 8 is supposed to be optimized for touchscreen devices. The installation was quick and smooth and all the drivers seem to work well including the one for the touchscreen. There is one major problem, though: when I try to tap one of the tiles on the Metro UI it displays This app can't open. The screen resolution is too low for this app to run. The machine has Intel Atom N450 processor and Intel GMA 3159 integrated graphics card and has maximum resolution 1024x600. I've read that Metro requires at least 1024x768. Is there a solution to this problem? Is there a way to force Windows 8 Metro apps to run in lower resolutions?

• Can DVI look different?

  I have a desktop with an nVidia GT 9500 which has two DVI slots. I have a 24" TN-Panel TFT on that and it looks pretty good. Then I hooked it onto the DisplayPort of my ThinkPad with the Intel HD 3000 card with an DP-DVI adapter and I think that the fonts look even clearer. Both computers run Kubuntu 12.04, although the ThinkPad is freshly set up, while the desktop is migrated from the previous release. Is this a hardware thing or is it just some setting in the anti-aliasing or sub-pixel-hinting?

• memtest86+ crashing on server

  we have a few DELL 1950 servers. 1 of this servers has CentOS6.3 and its randomly rebooting so I suspected it was hardware. (no log generated) the other 4 servers do not randomly reboot. We passed memtest86+ on the 5 servers, and on 3 of them memtest86+ crashes (displaying an odd and colorful screen, like if a video card failed) Although I tested old memtest86 (not +), and all servers did not crash. I also tested other RAM testers utilities, no tool failing. have any of you guys experience this? thanks

• If I double my ram on a x86 processor, does that double the ram I can use for each individual process?

  I don't understand how 32-Bit OS's use RAM on a per process basis. I've read the max RAM my x86 processor running a 32-bit OS can use is 2^32 = 4gb; but that's just for one process, right? 3DS Max keeps crashing, but it typically can never use more than 2GB of RAM before it crashes, if I increase my RAM from 4-8GB, would that double how much RAM I can use for each individual process or actually cause no change in my performance? Also would increasing my VRAM and getting a better graphics card increase the extent to which individual programs can preform? Lastly, is there any way to upgrade a 86-bit processor to be able to run a 64-bit OS? I feel like it would be ridiculous to sell modern processors that are capped at 4GB of RAM? Thanks.   I'm in the midst of resolving a bunch of security issues on a clients server to get them compliant with credit card laws and such. The first order of business is getting php from 5.2.14 to 5.2.16.   I have fibre broadband with speeds up to 38mbs, my Dell D600 has its max 2gb ram and has an ATI Mobility RADEON 9000 4xAGP 32mb card in it...Its TV support it says is NTSC or PAL in S-video and composite modes with a 7-pin mini-DIN connector (optional S-video to composite video adapter cable) and a vga port which i am using at the moment... The laptop runs Windows XP, an 80g HD with only windows + necessary updates and anti virus software on it..... There is HDMI on the TV, but not the laptop Fairly slow moving and close up pictures arent too bad, but when the movment is fast(a shot on goal) or in the distance, I cant see the ball and the images go out of focus.

• How to copy files without slowing down my app?

  I have a bunch of little files in my assets which need to be copied to the SD-card on the first start of my App. The copy code i got from here placed in an IntentService works like a charm. However, when I start to copy many litte files, the whole app gets increddible slow (I'm not really sure why by the way), which is a really bad experience for the user on first start. As I realised other apps running normal in that time, I tried to start a child process for the service, which didn't work, as I can't acess my assets from another process as far as I understood. Has anybody out there an idea how a) to copy the files without blocking my app b) to get through to my assets from a private process (process=":myOtherProcess" in Manifest) or c) solve the problem in a complete different way Edit: To make this clearer: The copying allready takes place in a seperate thread (started automaticaly by IntentService). The problem is not to separate the task of copying but that the copying in a dedicated thread somehow affects the rest of the app (e.g. blocking to many app-specific resources?) but not other apps (so it's not blocking the whole CPU or someting) Edit2: Problem solved, it turns out, there wasn't really a problem. • Multiple network cards, controlling where my traffic goes

  This is an Ubuntu 12.04 server install. I have multiple network cards, eth0 and eth1 lets call them. eth0 is connected to the internet, and all of my traffic goes through it, until eth1 gets plugged in. Then the machine tries to send everything through eth1, which for various and sundry reasons does not go out to the Interent. The only traffic it doesn't send through eth1 is traffic on eth0's subnet. It also will not accept inbound connections on eth0 from outside of eth0's subnet. I'd like all outbound traffic to go out eth0, but I'd like incoming connections from to either card from any subnet to work.

• VM: Windows 7 host, Linux guest, VT-d?

  I am sick of the driver issues of Linux. So I am planning to switch to Windows 7 as a host and virtualize my Linux into it. My laptop has integrated Intel graphics and supports VT-d. For speed reasons I would like to assign that card to Linux. Now, Parallels could do it but this page says Note: If you have only one PCIe video adapter, its name will be grayed out in the PCI Devices list and you will not be able to allocate it to your virtual machines. I would be perfectly fine with a headless Windows 7 (I can remotely admin from other computers or just the Linux guest) -- is there any VM software that doesn't have this restriction?

• Virtualbox, slow upload speed using nat

  Im running Virtualbox on a Ubuntu 12.04 server (host) and I'm running a Windows 7 as guest os. Im using the (virtual) Intel PRO/1000 MT network card. I get good network performance for download using both nat and bridged network settings but upload speed is really slow using nat. I have tied this on tow different servers, one brand new, and one a several years old, both gave the same result. If you can explain this behavior or have ideas of further test I can perform please let me know.

• My Router is fast when i reset it but slows down seconds later

  I have a Belkin N wireless router which until recently worked perfectly fine. Now i have to reset the router every few minutes, otherwise it slows down to a crawl. What can I do? I have tried turning the routers firewall off, but it does not make any difference. As far as I'm aware there have been no recent firmware updates. EDIT: The other devices on my network (laptop and iphone) do not have this problem. I connect to the router using a TP-Link wireless network card and I have already tried uninstalling and installing the driver. Hopefully this will narrow down the problem significantly.

• Recovering data from a Silicon Image SiI3114 RAID

  I have a set of 3 disks in RAID 5 originally created with a Silicon Image SiI3114 on-board RAID controller. The old motherboard is dead. The new motherboard (which has a different raid controller) won't boot from the array. I have no reason to believe that the drives are damaged or corrupted. I'm 99% sure that the problem is that the new controller isn't compatible or I'm not setting it up properly. Is it possible to recover data from the drives using a different controller? Would a PCI card like this one allow me to read from the array again?

• Does Google Tv (NSZ-GS7) work with HTPC?

  I was wondering if my Google Tv will seamlessly work with my HTPC. I'm running Windows Media Center using a InfiniTv quad tuner with a cable card. I'm able to connect my GTV with my HTPC and be able to see the GTV interface overlaid on top of media center. Unfortunately, I'm not really able to use the Tv/Movies App to look at live shows and change the channel. I have the Video device setup as Media Center PC, but then the Live Tv App doesn't work. If I change to my tv service provider (Verizon FIOS), the Live Tv App works, but then it won't be able to change the channel.

• Why does everybody have the same MAC address as me?

  I just bought some consumer-grade McCheap PCI-E NICs (and this was a bad idea). They both have the same MAC address. When I google it, it seems like every card of that company has the same address: 00:50:43:00:45:3e. Shouldn't they be unique? According to lspci it's a Marvell Technology Group Ltd. 88E8053 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 20). Is there a way to permanently flash a new address?

• Dual 9500GT video cards, one works

  I have two video cards, both are PCIe 512MB Nvidia 9500GTs. One is an Evga and the other is another brand. If I put them both in, the one in the top slot will work (either card). The one in the lower slot says Code 12, not enough resources to use this device. I've tried disabling Firewire and a few other things in an attempt to get more "resources". Intel DP45SG motherboard. 4G Ram. 64bit Vista. Q8200 CPU. I do not have the SLI connector.

• Is a memory upgrade a viable option to fix performance issues? [closed]

  I'm currently seeing my PC getting bogged down by Firefox 11.0 alone with only one hundred tabs open. Resulting in a memory use of over 530M , VM size of over 800M and an insane amount of page faults (easily reaching 100 million over the course of the day). The PF delta during normal operation easily reaches 7k with peaks to 15k sometimes reaching over 20k. This leads to a (real) deterioration to response time when switching, opening and closing tabs, opening menus, typing, ... My question is: Am I right in assuming that plugging in more RAM (either adding 2x1GB or replacing the existing RAM with 2x2GB or 4x1GB) will solve this problem? My specs: Windows XP Home Edition SP3 (32 bit) Intel Core Duo 2,4 GHz 2x512MB RAM 800MHz DDR2 (dual channel) 4MB unified cache 320GB HDD Intel G33 (X3100) onboard graphics (no graphics card but PCI express x16 slot is available)

• Windows backups to VM Esxi

  I'm very new to ESXi, so apologies if this is a silly question. I have ESXi 5.1 running running on HP Proliant Microserver with internal LUNs RAIDed with HP P410 Smart Array card. I have 2 Windows Server 2012 VMs running as Domain controllers. These are being backed-up up with GhettoVCB to a dedicated datastore hosted on LUNs on a eSata external device. I have several Windows 8 & 7 PC's connected to this domain. I want to back up these Windows PCs, via the built in backup software, ideally to the external eSata device as well. What do I need to do to have the Windows PC's see the datastore? I assume I could create a VM for FreeNas or something, or share out the datastore via one of the Windows Server 2012 VMs. Both those options seem a little bit of an over kill?

• DVI monitor detected only on computer startup

  I've recently connected a new monitor, LG M2252D-PZ, to a rather outdated computer with Windows XP and Radeon 9600. XP has SP3 installed, video drivers are the latest version back from the times the video card was still supported. My problem is that the monitor works fine only as long as I don't turn it off or switch it to a different input. When I turn it back on, it says "no signal". The key to the problem must be the DVI port, to which the new monitor is connected. The previous monitor was connected to the VGA output, and I've tested that the new one also works fine when connected to the analogue port. Apparently, the computer tests for the presence of a monitor on the DVI port only on startup. The question is, how do I change this?

  Hi all, I need to install linux for my acer 4741 laptop. Anyone who did this before and managed to solve the device driver problems please share your experience with me. I already installed the backtrack linux and I able to make it work the both wireless and wired network connections and also the sound card is also working. But the problem is that I unable to configure 1360x768 resolution of the display.
