  • Looking for "tech call" tracking software.

    The company I work for is looking for the best way to track "tech calls". We would most likely develop in house using vb.net, but possibly could look at using some open source vb.net software already out there. We will probably want to track just the basic info like client, datetime, length of call & a notes section about the call. One idea that has floated around is recording everyone's calls, watching a directory for new files and popping up a form so the user can enter the info when the call is over. We really don't want to spend a lot of time tracking/logging these calls, something quick & simple. Anybody have a good idea or solution that they have used before?

  • MS Chart Control for ASP.NET 100% Stacked Bar Chart Question.

    Hello All, I am trying to display a chart with several different bars that represent a ratio of some values. For example, one bar may say that there are 25 items in three different groups (maybe dirty, clean, and broken) and of those 25 items x items from each category add up to the total. Later the data will dynamically change and be displayed accordingly. But for now all I want to do is be able to display three different values on the same bar. Unfortunately, whatever properties I need to bind the data to are buried somewhere in the menus and I cannot seem to find them. Do any of you guys have experience with this sort of chart?

  • Google Web Toolkit or Microsoft Technology (Silverlight, ASP.NET)

    We have a large code base in MFC and VB. A few applications are in .NET. All these applications interoperate with each other on the user's machine and also connect with Unix servers via sockets. Recently we have started discussing a re-write of our applications and possibility of moving a lot of these desktop applications to web (they would run in intranet). A straight forward way is rewritting them in one of the .NET technologies. But a suggestion about using Google Web tookit has popped up and the argument is that it would help creating applications that would run in a browser on both desktop and mobile devices. One of the key problem that I see is that GWT is a large abstraction over Javascript. This will require the team to learn GWT, Javascript, IDEs etc as their experience has been primarily Microsoft technologies and not Java. It would be easier for them to learn .NET technologies instead of GWT. I do not have a depth of GWT and its drawback pittfalls and do not know about a parallel Microsoft Technology that I should investigate. So I would appreciate if people here can share their views or experiences using GWT or equivalent Microsoft technology.

    Hi, ASP.NET MVC web app that exposes "friendly" URLs: http://somesite.com/friendlyurl ...which are rewritten (not redirected) to ASP.NET MVC-style URLs under the hood: http://somesite.com/Controller/Action The user never actually sees any ASP.NET MVC style URLS. If he requests one, we hard 404 it. ASP.NET MVC is (in this app) an implementation detail, not a fundamental interface. My question: how do you examine an arbitrary incoming URL and determine whether or not that URL matches a defined ASP.NET MVC path? For extra credit: how do you do it from inside an ASP.NET-style IHttpModule, where you're getting invoked upstream from the ASP.NET MVC runtime? Thanks!

  • iOS Support with Windows Azure Mobile Services – now with Push Notifications

    A few weeks ago I posted about a number of improvements to Windows Azure Mobile Services. One of these was the addition of an Objective-C client SDK that allows iOS developers to easily use Mobile Services for data and authentication.  Today I'm excited to announce a number of improvement to our iOS SDK and, most significantly, our new support for Push Notifications via APNS (Apple Push Notification Services).  This makes it incredibly easy to fire push notifications to your iOS users from Windows Azure Mobile Service scripts. Push Notifications via APNS We've provided two complete tutorials that take you step-by-step through the provisioning and setup process to enable your Windows Azure Mobile Service application with APNS (Apple Push Notification Services), including all of the steps required to configure your application for push in the Apple iOS provisioning portal: Getting started with Push Notifications - iOS Push notifications to users by using Mobile Services - iOS Once you've configured your application in the Apple iOS provisioning portal and uploaded the APNS push certificate to the Apple provisioning portal, it's just a matter of uploading your APNS push certificate to Mobile Services using the Windows Azure admin portal: Clicking the “upload” within the “Push” tab of your Mobile Service allows you to browse your local file-system and locate/upload your exported certificate.  As part of this you can also select whether you want to use the sandbox (dev) or production (prod) Apple service: Now, the code to send a push notification to your clients from within a Windows Azure Mobile Service is as easy as the code below: push.apns.send(deviceToken, {      alert: 'Toast: A new Mobile Services task.',      sound: 'default' }); This will cause Windows Azure Mobile Services to connect to APNS (Apple Push Notification Service) and send a notification to the iOS device you specified via the deviceToken: Check out our reference documentation for full details on how to use the new Windows Azure Mobile Services apns object to send your push notifications. Feedback Scripts An important part of working with any PNS (Push Notification Service) is handling feedback for expired device tokens and channels. This typically happens when your application is uninstalled from a particular device and can no longer receive your notifications. With Windows Notification Services you get an instant response from the HTTP server.  Apple’s Notification Services works in a slightly different way and provides an additional endpoint you can connect to poll for a list of expired tokens. As with all of the capabilities we integrate with Mobile Services, our goal is to allow developers to focus more on building their app and less on building infrastructure to support their ideas. Therefore we knew we had to provide a simple way for developers to integrate feedback from APNS on a regular basis.  This week’s update now includes a new screen in the portal that allows you to optionally provide a script to process your APNS feedback – and it will be executed by Mobile Services on an ongoing basis: This script is invoked periodically while your service is active. To poll the feedback endpoint you can simply call the apns object's getFeedback method from within this script: push.apns.getFeedback({       success: function(results) {           // results is an array of objects with a deviceToken and time properties      } }); This returns you a list of invalid tokens that can now be removed from your database. iOS Client SDK improvements Over the last month we've continued to work with a number of iOS advisors to make improvements to our Objective-C SDK. The SDK is being developed under an open source license (Apache 2.0) and is available on github. Many of the improvements are behind the scenes to improve performance and memory usage. However, one of the biggest improvements to our iOS Client API is the addition of an even easier login method.  Below is the Objective-C code you can now write to invoke it: [client loginWithProvider:@"twitter"                     onController:self                        animated:YES                      completion:^(MSUser *user, NSError *error) {      // if no error, you are now logged in via twitter }]; This code will automatically present and dismiss our login view controller as a modal dialog on the specified controller.  This does all the hard work for you and makes login via Twitter, Google, Facebook and Microsoft Account identities just a single line of code.   • .NET Framework 3.5 wont install on VISTA 32bit

    Running VISTA 32bit. I am trying to install c# Visual Express 2008 - but it requires .NET 3.5. One of the prerequisites during the install is .NET 3.5 ... it attempts to install it but fails, with no real error message. So I downloaded .NET 3.5 standalone from MS website and tried that.Again it fails with the error [10/17/08,23:17:07] WapUI: [2] DepCheck indicates Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0SP1 (CBS) is not installed. [10/17/08,23:50:55] Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0SP1 (CBS): [2] Error: Installation failed for component Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0SP1 (CBS). MSI returned error code 34 I currently have c# Express edition 2005 installed. But everything I read says that I can have these two applications installed together. I believe that 2005 runs Framework 2.0. 2005 express edition works fine. - its just the 2008 edition im having problems installed the .NET 3.5 with .... any ideas ? thanks

Please help me deciding whether I change my OS or not, here is the List of software and app I want to work on: Visual Studio 2008/2010 SQL Server 2008 ASP.NET MVC and Entity Framework WPF application P.S. : I can create all my application [except WPF] with Windows Server 2003. I have a idea that I can install VS 2008 on XP but not exactly sure about MVC framework and other latest technology stuff.

    i have an asp.net-mvc site where users can add content and links and the data gets saved in a database. They now want the ability to upload attachments to pages and i wanted to figure out a few things: I have upload code that will upload files (pdfs, images, etc) but i wanted to see where i should be storing them. should i store them outside the website directory structure ? Is there any file types that i should be concerned with storing. I would basically have a file picker on the front end.

  • .NET applications sometimes doesn’t work on Windows CE

    Hi, I write applications for Windowe ME and CE in C# .NET 2.0. Sometimes I’ve got problems because applications don’t work on some navigation devices. On Windowe ME it is not problem because .NET can be installed from a cab, but on most Windows CE devices it is impossible because after soft reset all changes disappear. I found out that in most difficult cases good solution is to put all dll-s belonging to .NET installation cab in the folder where the application runs and everything work well. However there are some devices for example Navroad NR460 (Windows CE 5.0) on which none of .NET applications work (it is funny because previous and next version of that navigation works well). I didn’t found on this device cgacutil.exe program. Is this possible to force the device to run any .NET application without installing the Windows again? What should I try to do to check if running .NET a applications is possible? What conditions should be fulfilled to run easiest application written even in .NET 1.0

  • VBE6.dll not found when opening Access 2007 database in Access 2010

    I have an access 2007 database that has some VBA code in it. I need to open this database in Access 2010, but when I first open it I get an error that says: the expression on open you entered as the event property setting produced the following error: file not found: VBE6.dll I believe it's becuase Access 2010 references VBE7.dll when it loads up, and my database was built to reference VBE6.dll. I've tried putting VBE6.dll in the same folder that VBE7.dll resides in, hoping it would just get loaded up, but no luck. What can I do to resolve this?

  • Offset the tickmarks of a secondary axis

    I would like to offset the tickmarks of a secondary axis in excel WITHOUT changing the minimum. Here is a very complicated VBA class that apparently solves the issue but I would like a solution that doesn't require me to construct my entire chart in VBA. Here is an example of what I mean (I removed the chart insides so it looks funny, but really only the axes matter for this question): I am happy with the primary axis on the left. The secondary axis is just the primary axis plus 7.96%, so the secondary axis HAS TO have 0.0796 as a minimum. But I would like my tickmarks to be at nice rounder numbers so I would like to offset the starting point of the secondary axis' tickmarks to only start at 8%. Does anyone know of a way to achieve this? Just to be clear about the VBA, I am happy to use a VBA solution but I don't have the time to actually construct the chart itself in VBA. Using VBA to get a handle on the chart and make the adjustment would be perfect.

  • Why is lassoing ink in OneNote so slow in general? Doesn't anyone care?

    Now I understand that this is especially an (known) issue in the OneNote 2013 preview and that it will probably be fixed in the final release. But lassoing in OneNote 2010 was no sprightly affair either. I'm just perplexed really, why on earth is there such an issue? Is lassoing intrinsically computationally expensive? OneNote would be soooooooooooo much more useful if there's no lasso lag. And doing a laggy lasso on tablet pcs with weak processors is just so much worse. Or do most folks just don't use the lasso feature much? I use it primarily to shrink intermediate calculations for future retrieval.

  • I want to move columns in a gradebook based on the column header title to another gradebook

    I have to average grades based on each objective for a new report card we have to complete this year. For example Column one has students names, each additional column will have the objective associated with the assignment. I would like to move the entire column to another sheet for each objective. Is there a formula or macro that will do that. For example objective 3.1A is in columns 2, 5, and 7, objective 3.2B is located in columns 1, 4, 10, and 12, objective 3.4c is in column 3, 6, 9, and 11. I would like to have a spreadsheet for each objective.

  • PowerPoint '10 avoid animation completion on click & advance slide or start new one

    Scenario I have PowerPoint 2010 On the "Transitions" tab the "Advance Slide On Mouse Click" check box is checked. I have a long, slow, timed, non-repeating animation working in the background of the slide. I click to advance the slide before the animation is finished, but ... Instead of advancing the slide, the animation moves to the completed state ... Forcing a second click to actually advance the slide. Additionally If I have other animations on the slide that are initiated by a click, the long animation also advances to a finished state before starting the new animation. Desired Behavior On click, I want the slide to advance or the next on-click animation to start whether the long animation is done or not, and without having that long animation first "complete" itself. In the case of another animation, I simply want the long animation to continue, while also doing the new animation. Ultimate Question Is there a way to either: Set an option somewhere to not have that animation complete on click and simply "continue" to animate with the start of a new animation or to advance the slide (as the case may be)? Create a VBA script that will produce the desired behavior for the long animation?

    What's the most efficient way to "chain" combo/boxes in an Access 2007 form, so that the result of the first affected the contents of the second? I already know how to associate a combo box on a form with a query. Here's a example of my scenario: cmbCarMake Behavior: User starts typing, and list shows all manufacturers in a table starting with those characters (e.g., "Ford") cmbCarModel Behavior: Once cmbCarMake has a selected a Make, this object will limit the possible models the user can search for by only displaying models from that one manufacturer. (e.g., "F-150") Thank you for any examples/links.

    I don't believe this has been asked before, and I'm curious, Is there any way to change the default font in MS Word 2010 beta? Or MS Word 2007? I'm getting really tired of changing fonts every time I write a document. I simply don't like the Calibri font and change it every time... and it's getting annoying. Thanks.

  • Importing tab based outline txt file into Word outline

    Given a text file containing and outline with tabs to indent each level, I would like to import this into a Word 2007 document so that the each indentation level is converted to a H1, H2, etc heading level. I tried copy pasting the text into the outline view and opening the text file via File, Open. Both did not give the expected result. Level 1 Level 2 Level 3 Level 1 Level 2 Note: I am using spaces instead of tabs to indent this sample.

  • My powerpoint seems working in right-to-left

    I don't seem to find a way to switch it off. See picture. There seems to be no way to say the paragraph is not RTL. There are addable RTL buttons in the customize ribbon dialog, but they are grayed in ribbon cfg view, even though buttons that are actually there are also grayed in the same way. Looks like there's no way to get some other buttons shown on the office ribbon. I already found how to do it with VBA, but I find no way of doing it from UI and I spent much time searching and trying. Am I senile?
