  • Add webservice reference, the classes in different file

    Hi, When I add webservice as service reference in my .Net project, it creates a service folder within "Service References". All the interfaces and classes are contained within that service folder. I wanted to know how to split the interface's method and classes. Actually I wanted the web service reference to import classes defined in different dll. I wanted to define this way because of my design constraints. I've 3 layered application. Of which third layer is communication layer which holds all web service references. second is business layer and first is presentation layer. If the class declarations are in layer-3 and I'm accessing those classes from presentation layer, it is logically a cross-layer-access-violation. Instead, I wanted a separate project which holds only the class declarations and this would be used in all 3 layers. I didn't faced any problems to achieve this with layer-1 and layer-2. But, I'm not sure how to make communication layer to use this common declaration dll. Your suggestion would help me to design my application better. Thanks in advance Regards ArunDhaJ

    I've downloaded Direct X SDK from the microsoft website but when I try to compile my code i'm getting this error: Error 1 error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol _Direct3DCreate9@4 referenced in function "void __cdecl initD3D(struct HWND__ *)" (?initD3D@@YAXPAUHWND__@@@Z) C:\Users\Josh\Desktop\Tutorial\Tutorial\Tutorial.obj Tutorial I have added Direct X to my C++ build directories like that: $(DXSDK_DIR)include $(DXSDK_DIR)Lib\x64 I've googled it and found out that most of the time people were forgetting this line: #pragma comment (lib, "d3dx9.lib") But it's there for me here are my includes and lib: #include <windows.h> #include <windowsx.h> #include <d3d9.h> #include <d3dx9.h> #pragma comment (lib, "d3d9.lib") #pragma comment (lib, "d3dx9.lib") Can anyone help me with this?     hi all, we're building an survey webapp which will let the user to add new records to the survey when offline and will upload when the browser reconnects with the server. We've identified that this will need offline storage and hence google gears seems to be an obvious choice (we understand that adobe Flash has Offline Storage but not sure if that is the best way). I am aware of Dojo offline javascript toolkit which uses google gears for the underlying functionality. However, dojo offline is not part of the dojo toolkit after version 1.3. (currently dojo is 1.4.2). Google gears toolkit is currently frozen except for critical vulnerability fixes (it has not been updated almost for the last 1 yr) because they think that HTML 5 is the way to go ahead. Hence, we're looking for a higher abstraction on top of Google Gears engine TODAY, AND which will (in the future) switch the underlying engine to HTML5 if the browser supports HTML5 standards. We'd love to use Dojo but they have discontinued Dojo offline -- we'd prefer something that will be maintained for some time. Which are possible good strategies, JS toolkits/libraries to use for building this webapp ? Pls. advise.

  • What are the typical reasons Javascript developed on Firefox fails on IE?

    I developed some javascript enhanced pages that run fine on recent Firefox and Safari. I missed to check in Internet Explorer, and now I find the pages don't work on IE 6 and 7 (so far). The scripts are somehow not executed, the pages show as if javascript wasn't there, although some javascript is executed. I am using own libraries with dom manipulation, from YUI 2 I use YUI-Loader and the XML-Http-Request, and on one page I use "psupload", which depends on JQuery. I am installing Microsoft Script Editor from Office XP and will now debug. I will also write specific tests now. What are the typical failing points of IE? What direction I can keep my eyes open. I will also ask more questions here for specific tasks later, but for now I am interested in your experience why IE usually fails on scripts that run fine in Firefox

  • Elements are listed in a vob but not able to checkout/checkin in CCRC

    Hi, There are 2 windows domains named as OPR & BDC. In OPR domain the CCRC server is hosted, users accessing from BDC domain can able to connect to CCRC and list the vob....and also able to join the project. To perform any checkout/checkin/loading resources it is taking long time and after a day it is in same state.Connectivity is fine to OPR domain from BDC domain ( ping & tracrt is working fine) .     Hi, I am exploring the option of querying a web-page, which has a CGI script running on its end, with a search string (say in the form of http://sw.mycompany.com/~tools/cgi-bin/script.cgi?param1=value1&param2=value2&param3=value3 ), and displaying the result on my app (after due processing of course). My app is written in MFC C++ , and I must confess that I have never attempted anything related to network programming before. Is what I'm trying to do very infeasible ? If not, could anyone point me at the resources I need to look at in order to go about this ? Thanks !

    I have an asp.net C# web forms application in .net framework 4 In my pages, when I view html source it changes control IDs to something like ctl00_CPHPageContents_txtUserID actually it is txtUserID This application was first in Framework 3.5 and IDs were generated like CPHPageContents_txtUserID So, in short, in Framework 3.5 Id was CPHPageContents_txtUserID and now in Framework 4 ID is ctl00_CPHPageContents_txtUserID which is breaking our automation tests. Can I remove this ctl00 added by Framework 4?

  • Once installed geos library (C++, and C), and then trying to install rgeos package (R), it reports geos-config missing!

    Knowing that the package rgeos, from the R language, requieres a prior installation of geos libraries, I installed, both, libgeos and libgeos-c1 (3.2.2), using the synaptic installer in my Ubuntu 12.04 (32 bit) machine.   • How do I pitch ASP.NET over PHP to a potential client?

We had a client who asked us to review (improve) the data model for his web app, but said that he wants to develop his app in PHP (he knows "a guy" who can do it). When I asked him why he wants to go with PHP, he gave me the standard set of arguments from the 90's: Microsoft is evil, and PHP is free Writing an ASP.NET app is more expensive (software-wise) Why would Facebook use PHP if it was a bad idea? [classic] He had a few more comments about the costs associated with going .NET. The truth is that "Microsoft is expensive" does not hold water any longer, with their "Express" suite, you can develop an ASP.NET app without paying anything for software. When it comes to hosting, you can save a few bucks with PHP over .NET, but that's a small fraction of the projected development costs (we quoted 10-15k). Going back to my question, what arguments would I give to a client in favor of ASP.NET over PHP? [please provide sources for quantitative claims]

    So I was playing around with NavigationNodeCollection, which is basically like SPNavigationNodeCollection just to make sure it worked without a hitch…Here is a little sample snippet of what should work: Unfortunately, you get a nice little javascript error that does not allow you to access the child nodes.  I tried a foreach() loop that gets a NavigationNode for each parent then loops through the NavigationNode.Children that did not work either.  I threw in two ExecuteQueryAsync statements thinking that would help, unfortunately adding a second statement provides no different results.  This appears to be a bug in the Silverlight Client Object Model.  I reported the error.  Hopefully, we get a fix by RTM so that we can use the easier method to get items into Silverlight, otherwise it’s back to WCF and cross domain policies.  We all love cross domain policies right?   • Should functions of a C library always expect a string's length?

    I'm currently working on a library written in C. Many functions of this library expect a string as char* or const char* in their arguments. I started out with those functions always expecting the string's length as a size_t so that null-termination wasn't required. However, when writing tests, this resulted in frequent use of strlen(), like so: const char* string = "Ugh, strlen is tedious"; libFunction(string, strlen(string)); Trusting the user to pass properly terminated strings would lead to less safe, but more concise and (in my opinion) readable code: libFunction("I hope there's a null-terminator there!"); So, what's the sensible practice here? Make the API more complicated to use, but force the user to think of their input, or document the requirement for a null-terminated string and trust the caller?

  • How to save one role implementing a client/server pattern in Azure?

    Sometimes you need to have an instance performing a server role when other instances are playing the client role. An example can be a file sharing like in this great post: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/mariok/archive/2011/02/11/sharing-folders-in-azure.aspx, one instance shares a folder that all other instances are using to write files that the server processes. The problem is that there is not discovering mechanism in Azure that allows one instance to know where the instance acting as a server is located. A first approach can be having a server role and a client role like in the previous post. This means more instances, more money. A solution to save this "server" role is to use Instance 0, always available, to act as a server. An instance can know that it should act as the server checking RoleEnvironment.CurrentRoleInstance.Id.EndsWith(".0"). Other instances can iterate the RoleEnvironment Instances collection to find the instance whose name ends with ".0", getting its endpoints and acting as its clients.

    I'm searching for compelling git and Mercurial clients on Mac OS X. The most clients I've found so far were less compelling as I expected. Some of the clients are programmed even in ruby or tcl/tk, which IMO aren't good OSX citizens in regard of integration in the OS. I've clients in mind similar to Versions.app or Cornetstone which are subversion-only clients. Perhaps somebody got an insider tip for me.

  • Fastest XML parser for small, simple documents in Java

    I have to objectify very simple and small XML documents (less than 1k, and it's almost SGML: no namespaces, plain UTF-8, you name it...), read from a stream, in Java. I am using JAXP to process the data from my stream into a Document object. I have tried Xerces, it's way too big and slow... I am using Dom4j, but I am still spending way too much time in org.dom4j.io.SAXReader. Does anybody out there have any suggestion on a faster, more efficient implementation, keeping in mind I have very tough CPU and memory constraints? [Edit 1] Keep in mind that my documents are very small, so the overhead of staring the parser can be important. For instance I am spending as much time in org.xml.sax.helpers.XMLReaderFactory.createXMLReader as in org.dom4j.io.SAXReader.read [Edit 2] The result has to be in Dom format, as I pass the document to decision tools that do arbitrary processing on it, like switching code based on the value of arbitrary XPaths, but also extracting lists of values packed as children of a predefined node. [Edit 3] In any case I eventually need to load/parse the complete document, since all the information it contains is going to be used at some point.
