• Video learning for database design

  I'm trying to learn good relational database design (using mysql and php if that makes any difference). I've already done some database work, so I'm not totally clueless, but I suspect that my solutions may not have adhered to best practices for efficient searching, optimization, etc. Can someone suggest a good set of videos on the topic? If you know something is superb or has really made a difference in your own learning, please post your suggestion. Prefer videos, but books (as long as they're not too huge) are ok too. But prefer videos. Thank you

• How to use Mesa3D on Mac OS X and Windows

  Hello all, I need to use Mesa3D for a cross platform application(windows and Mac only) which uses only offline software rendering. The reason I wanted to use Mesa3D is because it has the same Drawing calls as OpenGL and they are really easy. Now I know that Apple itself has a software implementation (which I heard is flaky), but I prefer using Mesa so that it's a lot easier for me to maintain the code on both platforms. On windows I managed to compile three DLL's from the Mesa3d source, but don't know what to do with them. On Mac OS X I am completely clueless. I would highly appreciate your help.   Recently i was asked to prove the power of C# 3.0 in a single line( might be tricky) i wrote new int[] { 1, 2, 3 }.Union(new int[]{10,23,45}). ToList().ForEach(x => Console.WriteLine(x)); and explained you can have (i) anonymous array (ii) extension method (iii)lambda and closure all in a single line.I got spot offer. But..... The interviewer asked me how will you convert an anonymous type into know type :( I am 100% sure ,we can not do that.The interviewer replied there is 200% chance to do that if you have a small work around.I was clueless. As usual,I am waiting for your valuable reply(Is it possible?).

• How to close a window (unload a NIB)?

  I have a custom NSWindowController subclass that loads a NIB file during initialization like this: self = [super initWithNibNamed:@"myNib"]; if (self != nil) { [self window]; } The nib contains some custom views and some other controls. The NSWindowController is the file's owner and at least one of the views even binds to it. Simply, what do I have to do to close and release that window? I spend the whole day trying to figure that out and I am still clueless. Please help me.

• Should I distinguish OpenIDs based on protocol prefix or not? http vs https

  I have implemented a straightforward OpenID support for my ASP.NET app with DotNetOpenAuth. Yet I recently realized that the implementation was treating http://johndoe.example.com/ as a distinct user compared to https://johndoe.example.com. This lead to quite a few confused users. I am unsure what to do at this point. Is this a bug or a feature? Indeed, I can consider this behavior as a feature: if the user specifies the HTTPS, the user might not want the system to accept HTTP auth in the first place. On the other hand: if the user specifies HTTPS out of sheer cluelessness (the casual web visitor is clueless concerning the purpose of the "S" part), then rejecting it's authentication attempt is confusing. What is considered as the best practice?

What tutorials/books/websites do you guys suggest that I should learn from? What's IoC? Do I use it alongside MVC? What components of the Spring framework should I use? How do I know what to use?   I'm quite new with this topic so any help would be great. What i need is to optimize a neural network in MATLAB by using GA. My network has [2x98] input and [1x98] target, i've tried consulting matlab help but im still kind of clueless about what to do :( so, any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. edit: i guess i didn't say what is there to be optimized as Dan said in the 1st answer. I guess most important thing is number of hidden neurons. And maybe number of hidden layers and training parameters like number of epochs or so. Sorry for not providing enough info, i'm still learning about this.

• Highlight Read-Along Text (in a storybook type app for iPhone)

  I love this feature (well, my son loves it), and I would like to implement it in a kid's book app I am doing for iPhone, but I'm clueless where to begin. I'm using Cocos2d for all the animated sprite/transition stuff, but I'm not sure how to approach highlighting text as it is narrated. Example: "Jack and Jill, drank their fill, and were too drunk to go for water." As the text is narrated (.mp3 plays on each page), the text would be highlighted. I considered investigating Core animation, but I"m more familiar with Cocs2d at this point (tenuously at best). If someone has a clue, I'd really appreciate it. Brendang

• Architecture of chatroulette

  Could somebody explain to me the architecture behind chatroulette? I was thinking about a similar project that would only implement Audio support (for starters). Is the best way to set this up a flash server? If so, how should I go about getting into flash, will I need flex 4? I have some beginner experience with c++, c# and java but I have never developed anything for the web. I was also wondering how the randomizer matches up the participants. How would you code something like this. Im obviously pretty clueless here and I'd greatly appreciate some advice regarding this problem -- I don't expect copy and paste solutions. • Nike + iPod app like customisation ?

  Hi, I am very much curious about Nike + iPod app look and feel. They have selected uitabbar buttons red in color The tableviewcell selection style as red in color. The disclosure indicator is also red in color. The solution in my mind for two of these is: I can use a red colored arrow image to use it as accessory view. I can flip between a red colored and white colored view with animation for having the selection style But I am clueless of how the tabbar thing is to be done. I am very curious to know the tricks behind this, I also accept that I may be wrong with my other two solutions. So please suggest the solution for any of the problems.   Hello! :-) In my current RCP-project i use a MultipageEditorPart. It has various pages, with simple SWT composites on it. The composites contain some Text and Combo elements. When the user right clicks onto the editor page, I want a context menu to open. This menu holds a command for creating a new editor page, with a composite on it. The command is already working, but I'm quite clueless about how to implement the context menu for the editor. Can someone help with this?

• Cannot Translate to SQL using Select(x => Func(x))

  I'm slowly learning the ins and outs of LINQtoSQL, but this is confusing me. Here is the statement I have: IQueryable<IEvent> events = (from e in db.getEvents() select e).Select(x => SelectEvent(x, null)); What the SelectEvent does can be explained in this answer here. I am not using the .toList() function as I don't want potentially thousands of records brought into memory. public IEvent SelectEvent(SqlServer.Event ev, EventType? type) { // Create an object which implements IEvent // I don't have the code in front of me, so forgive the lack of code } My question is really for the Select() method. I get the "Cannot translate to SQL" error and the Select() is listed in the error message. Clueless on this one :-/.

Yeah, I know I post a lot of questions, but thats because I either need assurance that I am doing it right, what I am doing wrong, or if I am totally clueless, and cant find anything in the documentation. Anyways, I am trying to check for duplicate nodes. Here is how I would want to do it: Loop thru my nodes, and compare each single node's text (record), but if I got many nodes, wouldnt that be too time and memory consuming? • Generating Dynamic web pages without server side scripting

  Hi guys, I am trying to control a media device which has lot of multimedia content that it can play using another device(remote control device) like an ipad connected to the LAN. (UPnP) I want the media device to be able to send the content listing to the remote device so that it will be rendered as a webpage on the remote controller. And actions on the webpages needs to be sent to the the device as commands to execute (like play, pause, next etc). The media device is an embedded device, hence can't have any server side scripting, all has to be done on the client side. I want the page rendered to be HTML5. So, is it possible to generate dynamic HTML5 pages using just client side scripting? Thanks a lot. I am an embedded systems developer hence clueless about the web designing stuff.

• How do you handle live video streaming in Flash AS3?

  I've been dabbling with socket servers in Java and now I'm ready to get my feet wet with an idea I had. I would like to use python for my socket server and obviously AS3 for my client. I'm able to create a full chat using my own python socket server but I'm almost clueless what to do now that I want to add in LIVE video (want to make it a live video "chat"). I've found tutorials but they are for FMS and I can not afford that, also Red5 looked nice but couldn't find a live video tutorial off hand (plus I would have to switch to Red5 from my own socket server). So if someone could even nudge me into some resources on the subject (the subject of live video without using FMS) that would be very helpful, Google is failing me right now.

• Java regex replace multiple file paths in a large String

  So a Regex pro I am not, and I'm looking for a good way to do this. I have a large string which contains a variable number <img> tags. I need to change the path on all of these images to images/. The large string also contains other stuff not just these img's. <img src='http://server.com/stuff1/img1.jpg' /> <img src='http://server.com/stuff2/img2.png' /> Replacing the server name with a ReplaceAll() I could do, it's the variable path in the middle I'm clueless on how to include. It doesn't necessarily need to be a regex, but looping through the entire string just seems wasteful.

• PHP getting blank pages after submit a form + signal Segmentation fault (11)

  I few days ago I update my macbook pro to snow leopard, and since then some php files are not showing. This is what happens: I created a php form, when going to 'http://localhost/webform.php' I can see the form just fine. Then, once I submit the form, I just get a blank page. I enable error and warnings reporting under php.ini to make sure I'm not missing something, but still I'm not getting anything, just the blank page. Then I checked under apache log files, and what I notice is that every time I submit the form I see the following line coming up under the apache logs: [Wed Apr 07 21:40:28 2010] [notice] child pid 70223 exit signal Segmentation fault (11) I'm clueless on this one. Any ideas on how to fix it?

• How do I handle user authorization the safest way?

  I'm developing a small website where I'm going to allow user to create accounts but I'm quite clueless when it comes to safety around authorizations. I have built my project in PHP with codeigniter and found a library (Tank Auth) that could handle authorization for me. It stores password in a safe way but I'm still worried about the part when the user sends their password to my server. One easy way to do it would be to send the password in a post-request but I would guess that it's quite easy to sniff such a password. Should I do something with the password on the client side before sending it to my server? And is there any good javascript libraries for this?

• Allocated Private Bytes keeps going up in one computer but not the other

  OK, this may sound weird, but here goes. There are 2 computers, A (Pentium D) and B (Quad Core) with almost the same amount of RAM. If I run the same code on both computers, the allocated private bytes in A never goes down resulting in a crash later on. In B it looks like the private bytes is constantly deallocated and everything looks fine. In both computers, the working set is deallocated and allocated similarly. Could this be an issue with manifests or DLLs (system)? I'm clueless. Note: I observed the utilized memory with Process Explorer.
