  • What's the proper response to WM_ENDSESSION with ENDSESSION_CLOSEAPP and wParam == FALSE?

    According to the WM_ENDESSION docs, when lParam is ENDSESSION_CLOSEAPP and wParam is FALSE, "the application should not shut down". So, should I just ignore that and use the default response? What is it's purpose? (I'm listening to Windows events/messages in Qt (C++) to shutdown some launched processes, but that's just the context and shouldn't have any bearing here...)

  • Powershell $LastExitCode=0 but $?=False . Redirecting stderr to stdout gives NativeCommandError

    Can anyone explain Powershell's surprising behaviour in the second example below? First, a example of sane behaviour: PS C:\> & cmd /c "echo Hello from standard error 1>&2"; echo "`$LastExitCode=$LastExitCode and `$?=$?" Hello from standard error $LastExitCode=0 and $?=True No surprises. I print a message to standard error (using cmd's echo). I inspect the variables $? and $LastExitCode. They equal to True and 0 respectively, as expected. I always supposed it is True if and only if $LastExitCode is 0 but my example contradicts that. Here's how I came across this behaviour in the real-world (simplified). It really is FUBAR. I was calling one Powershell script from another. The inner script: cmd /c "echo Hello from standard error 1>&2" if (! $?) { echo "Job failed. Sending email.." exit 1 } # do something else Running this simply .\job.ps1, it works fine, no email is sent. However, I was calling it from another Powershell script, logging to a file .\job.ps1 2>&1 > log.txt. In this case, an email is sent! Here, the act of observing a phenomenon changes its outcome. This feels like quantum physics rather than scripting! [Interestingly: .\job.ps1 2>&1 may or not blow up depending on where you run it]

    Is it bad to write: if (b == false) //... while (b != true) //... Is it always better to instead write: if (!b) //... while (!b) //... Presumably there is no difference in performance (or is there?), but how do you weigh the explicitness, the conciseness, the clarity, the readability, etc between the two? Note: the variable name b is just used as an example, ala foo and bar.

  • Why does Javascript's OR return a value other than true/false?

    I saw this construction in order to get the browser viewport width: function () { return window.innerWidth || document.documentElement.clientWidth || document.body.clientWidth; } I understand the browser quirks involved. What I don't understand is why || returns the value. So I tried this alert(undefined || 0 || 3); and sure enough, it alerts 3. I find this bizarre, because I expect true or false. Could anyone explain what's going on?

By default I use IsExpanded of TreeViewItem to true. But in a particular case, I want to set IsExpanded property to false. So that treeview loading doesn't take time to generate all items. How can I set that in code since I don't have reference to TreeViewItem's instance at that time?

  • Django: How do I use assert False, sys.exc_info()[0] without showing a system error page?

    I'm new to Django and have some code in my views.py like this: try: myfunction() except: assert False, sys.exc_info()[0] This is very helpful because I get an email with lots of useful info if there's an error. The problem is that it also redirects the user to a Webfaction system error page. What I'd like to know is how do I still get the useful error email, but redirect the user to my own error page? Also, is this the best way to be handling errors in Django?

    I understand why passing a null to HashTable.Contains() doesn't work, but I don't understand what the point of it throwing an ArgumentNullException is - instead of just simply returning false? What is the benefit of throwing the exception (other than to make me do null checks before calling .Contains())? Caused By [System.ArgumentNullException] Key cannot be null.   • When would isSearchable return false for an Oracle JDBC column?

    In what cases would a call to java.sql.ResultSetMetaData.isSearchable(int col) return false for an Oracle database? The documentation for the method doesn't really answer the question: "Indicates whether the designated column can be used in a where clause." I can think of only one case - when the column is the result of an aggregate function (in which case it would have to be part of a HAVING filter, not a WHERE filter). Are there any other cases?

    Spring's @Autowire can be configured such that Spring will throw an error if no matching autowire candidates are found: @Autowire(required=false) Is there an equivalent JSR-330 annotation? @Inject always fails if there is no matching candidate. Is there any way I can use @Inject but not have the framework fail if no matching types are found? I haven't been able to find any documentation to that extent.

    I am running Kubuntu 13.10 on a Lenovo G500 laptop. My question is similar to this one: How can I remap my F keys on my HP laptop? That is to say, my F1-F12 keys are mapped to certain special functions, and only holding down the Fn key restores access to the standard F1-F12 keys. How do I remap certain keys? I would like to know if there is a way to remap Fx to Fn+Fx and vice-versa. As per the instructions of #87043 I checked my BIOS and there is no option to switch the Fx/Fn key functionality. Googling through Leonovo's support forums indicates a BIOS update enabling this is in the works, but there's no indication of when it will be complete. Using xev I was able to see what X sees when F1-F12 are pressed. Some send separate keycodes, but some are somehow mapped to key combinations or other unknown things: F1 - XF86AudioMute F2 - XF86AudioVolumeLower F3 - XF86AudioVolumeRaise F4 - Alt_L + F4 F5 - F5 F6 - Disables touchapd, cannot quite understand what xev tells me is happening, reenables if disabled (Kernel log reveals these have well-defined scancodes not assigned to any keycodes) F7 - XF86WLAN F8 - Alt_L + Ctrl_L + Tab F9 - Turns off LCD backlight, xev sees nothing F10 - Super_L + p F11 - XF86MonBrightnessLower F12 - XF86MonBrightnessRaise Following the instrusctions on this page: How do I remap certain keys? I remapped all the keys that have definite keycodes (F1, F2, F3, F5, F7, F11, F12) This still leaves the F4, F6, F8, F9, F10 keys not functioning properly. I need to do this in my model, vs using a ModelForm. If there is another way to do it (while still in clean()), I'm completely open to any suggestions.

  • Why does DataSet.HasChanges() return true if called in the same function as change but false otherwi

    Assuming that the buttons are being clicked in order, the following code modifies row 1 in a .net DataSet, then row 0. HasChanges returns true, but GetChanges only gives me the change for row 0. If I comment out the line in the button2 click event that modifies row 0, then HasChanges returns false. Can anyone explain to me why HasChanges() and GetChanges() only return true when they are called in the same function as the change to the DataSet?
