  • router gets disconnected once I terminate my SIP application

    Hey, Here is an interesting one, I have a SIP VoIP application which is able to register to the PBX server, and I can invite and see the user call on the callee end receiving an Invite, and on the caller end I see the Ringing response... now here is interesting part, if I close my application with out any notification to the server my router disconnects and restart, after a short while (30 - 150 sec). I could fix that if I would complete the ACK BYE process, but I'm just wondering why does my router hangs up? any ideas?

    Is it possible to programmatically change settings on a Netgear wireless router using C#? I have settings that I change often and I would like to create my own interface for making those changes. Currently I navigate to the admin web page (10.0.0.1) and it prompts me for a username and password. After I authenticate I can use the web interface to change the router's configuration. If this isn't possible with Netgear, do any outher wireless routers have an API for developers? Thanks! Darvis

    I'm trying to run the non-GUI version of configuration wizard using power shell because I would like to set config and admin database names. GUI wizard doesn't give you all possible options for configuration.     I have a 'main' router that receives the internet signal from the ISP and another one in my room, connected with a cable. The main router is running its original firmware and is very limited in its features, unfortunately I can not change this router, since my phone company has some hardcoded stuff in there and the internet will only work with this router. My second router is running DD-WRT firmware. Now I need to set up dynamic DNS, so I can access my NAS machine remotely, which is connected to the second router. As mentioned, this can't be done with the main router, due to its limited features. DHCP is turned off on the second router, since it gets its IP from the main one. Is there a possibility to set up dynamic DNS on the second router, without changing any (or much) on the main router? Maybe as a side note: I live in Germany, don't know if the set up of the routers are different in other countries.

  • linux passwords in configuration files

    Some programs on linux that use configuration files, want me to enter my password in plain text in one of their configuration files. For example newsbeauter, the rss reader wants me to enter my google account password in a ~/.newsbeauter/config if I want to read google reader feeds. Mutt also sort of wants a password in a text file, but gives an option of entering it on every login. Is there any secure workaround to storing a password in a config file like that (eg for newsbeauter)? I was thinking of running the app as root, but that doesn't seem right. Or somehow creating and deleting the file everytime I use the app. Any ideas?

    I recieve the following error when I try to configure SharePoint 2010 Server: "Cannot connect to the database master at SQL server at [computer.domain]. The database might not exist, or the current user does not have permission to connect to it."     We have a ProCurve Switch 2810-48G (J9022A). We need to disable auto negotiation on two ports and manually configure them to be full duplex gige ports. From the web GUI, Configuration Tab, Port Configuration sub tab, I am only presented with the option to configure the port as Auto - 1000. I take this to mean, auto negotiate duplex, manually configure the speed to be gige. From the CLI when I try to set 1000-full I get the following error: Value 1000-full is not applicable to port 39 (or whatever port I try) The exact commands I have entered are: config interface 39 speed-duplex 1000-full BTW: speed-duplex auto-1000 works ( I also tried full-1000 and that did not work either) How do I manually configure the port such that it is manually configured to use full duplex, 1000 mbs?

  • Scripted printer configuration changes

    I've got about a dozen Windows XP machines that I need to make a couple specific printer configuration changes to. The printer is "virtual" printer for an electronic delivery service. I'd like to not have to visit each machine individually. I already have the means to execute commands remotely on the machines, I just can't seem to find away to adjust these settings via command line or script. Specifically I need to be able to make the following changes: 1) As an admin user: - Device Settings - Font Substitution Table/Courier New - Change to "Courier" 2) As a specific* user: - Printer Preferences - Paper/Quality - Advanced - Change Graphic/Print Quality to "600 x 600" - Change Document Options/Printer Features/Graphics Mode to "HP-GL/2" *This change is a per user configuration, unless there's some way to make it once. In this situation I only really need it for a specific (different) user on each machine.

  • Router behind Router--second router (and its clients) cannot be "seen" even after both routers are D

    Couple of terminology I guess I should get out of the way for consistency's sake throughout the post: External Router/Modem - SMC 8014WG - External IP 173.32.144.134 - Internal IP 192.168.0.1 Internal Router - LinkSys WRT120N - "External" IP of 192.168.0.175 - Internal IP 192.168.1.1 - Connected via Ethernet Cable (a really long one, from the basement to the second floor) PC - IP 192.168.200 - Connected Wirelessly via WAP2 Personal. Laptop - Used to try and diagnose the problem, a 4th machine to the setup which won't be part of the final setup once everything works. The actual problem: I've tried setting the LinkySys router as a DMZ'd client on the SMC router, and then DMZ'd the actual PC on the LinkSys. So the DMZ looks like this: On the SMZ, client with IP 192.168.0.175 is DMZ'd. On the LinkSys, client with IP 192.168.1.200 is DMZ'd. No dice. I then tried port forwarding the necessary port on the SMC to the LinkSys (lets just say, port 80). Then port forwarded Port 80 on the LinkSys to the PC. Same as the DMZ scenario above, but change DMZ with port forwarding. No dice, still :(. Now here's where I went stupid--and tell me if one should never do this--I enabled both DMZ and port forwarding at the same time. I fired up Opera--my browser of choice ;)--typed in 173.32.144.134:6333 and... ... Third time is the charm they say? Well, clearly not. Otherwise I wouldn't be here ;). To diagnose the problem, I enabled "Allow remote access to the Admin panel" on the LinkSys router, and specified port 6333 as the port to use. I port forwarded port 6333 on the SMC to 192.168.0.175, and access my external IP of 173.32.144.134:6333 in hopes of seeing the Admin panel... No dice (I think I've ran out of dice by now ;)). So to see where the problem was, I connected a laptop to the SMC via LAN cable, and typed in 192.168.0.175:6333, and viola, Admin Panel access! So the problem looks like it lies with the SMC--But that's as far as I've got, I've done the port forwarding, the DMZ'ing, and I've even disabled the built-in firewall for safe measures, but nothing worked. So, here I am. Unable to connect to the PC behind the Internal router externally, and without anything to go on other than to come here and ask for the wisdom of the the superuser folks :). If any more detail is required, just ask. (Apologies in advance, if questions should never be this long winded!)

    router A no wifi +--- pc01 +--- pc02 | +--- router B wifi +--- pc03 +--- printer In my LAN I have a modem-router (say A) (no wifi connection) acting as DHCP server, and connected to the Internet. Now, I want to add another router (say B) (with wifi connection) to the LAN, in order to connect wifi pc's and net printers. Here I would disable DCHP server functionality. Is it correct to connect router B to router A via an ethernet port? In router A I define an IP address (eg 192.168.1.100) to be assigned to router B (MAC address). I expect to see router B listed as an attached device, in router A's status, but on the contrary it is not listed.

  • Is using something other than XML advisable for my configuration file?

    I have a small tool I'm designing which would require a configuration file of some sort. The configuration file in my case is really more of a database, but it needs to be lightweight, and if needed the end-user should find it easily editable. However, it also will contain a lot of things in it. (depending on certain factors, could be 1Mb or more) I've decided I'd rather use plain ol' text, rather than trying to use SQLite or some such. However, with using text, I also have to deal with the variety of formats. So far, my options are XML JSON Custom format The data in my file is quite simple consisting for the most part of key-value type things. So, a custom format wouldn't be that difficult... but I'd rather not have to worry about writing the support for it. I've never seen JSON used for configuration files. And XML would bloat the file size substantially I think. (I also just has a dislike of XML in general). What should I do in this case? Factors to consider: This configuration file can be uploaded to a web service(so size matters) Users must be able to edit it by hand if necessary(ease of editing and reading matters) Must be able to generate and process automatically (speed doesn't matter a lot, but not excessively slow) The "keys" and "values" are plain strings, but must be escaped because they can contain anything. (unicode and escaping has to work easily)

  • Adding a Second Wireless Router to an Existing Wired Network

    I apologize ahead of time, I know this has been asked before, but I'm still having problems...maybe you guys can help. I started out with the basic instructions from the highest-voted answer at http://serverfault.com/questions/41572/adding-a-second-wireless-router-to-my-network The new Wireless router in question is a Linksys Wireless-N Gigabit Router, Model # WRT310N Here are the steps I've taken in setting it up: Plug my laptop into LAN port #2 in the new router. Nothing else is connected at this point Configure the new router to be 192.168.1.200 (the original router is 192.168.1.1, and its DHCP clients are from 192.168.1.100-x.x.x.199) Set the internet connection on the new router to "DHCP Client" Turn off the DHCP server & NAT routing on the new router Plug in a LAN cable from the original router into the LAN port #1 on the new router (NOT the WAN port, nothing is plugged in there) Reset the new router Afterwards, I try to ping 192.168.1.1 from the laptop plugged into LAN port #2 on the new router, with no response. 192.168.1.200 garners no response either. Typing "ipconfig" tells me: Autoconfiguration IP Address: 169.254.198.113 Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0 Default Gateway: 169.254.198.113 What's going wrong? I appreciate any help!

Ideally I would like to save the settings in an XML file, have the ability to edit the file while the game server is running and then send the server the command to reload the settings from the file. I know I can use a database to do this as well, but the game server is fairly small and I think it would be more practical to just save settings in a flat-file. I will have file-level access to the machine the server will run on. What should I use?

  • Why is there only one configuration management tool in the main repository?

    How is it that Cfengine does not exist in the Ubuntu (10.04 LTS) Main Repository? I can't find a discussion of this anywhere (using Google). The only configuration management in Ubuntu Main seems to be Puppet. I looked for a wide variety of others as well - all from Wikipedia's list of configuration management tools - and none of them are present in Ubuntu main. I looked for bcfg2, opensymbolic, radmind, smartfrog, spacewalk, staf, synctool, chef - none are present. From my vantage point as a system administrator, I would have expected to find at least bcfg2, puppet, cfengine, and chef (as the most widely used tools). Why is cfengine (or chef and others) not included in Ubuntu main? Why is there only one configuration management tool in Ubuntu main? By the way - the reason this is important in the context of server administration is because Ubuntu main is fully supported by the Ubuntu team with updates and security updates; the other repositories are not.

(many more) Is there some consensus within the development community about which option is preferable?

  • Wired connection to windows ISC stopped working

    I have had my Linux box connected to the internet through a Windows computer by wiring them together with a cat5 cable then the Windows is connected wireless to a router. This setup has worked since I got the Linux box but just yesterday stopped working. The changes that occurred were: I changed networking so that I was connecting the Linux box and Windows computer through a second router so during that time the Linux box went through a router to connect to the Windows computer that was still connected wireless to the first router. The Internet didn't work on the Linux box at the time they second router was involved when I removed it and directly connected the Linux box and Windows the Internet worked again. Another thing that changed was that I had disconnected my Windows computer from all network connections and deleted them to make my Ethernet work better. Also at that time my dad had I connect the Windows to a third router and changed some settings in it. After reconnecting this time the connection between the router and the windows would not establish. If anyone has any ideas as to why this is I would greatly appreciate it!

  • Server configuration advice for new site that could get lots of traffic within 6m

    We're setting up a new web2.0 type site with elements of e-commerce. Budget is kind of tight. Due to the nature of the site and promotions, etc., we expect traffic could ramp up fairly quickly. Looking for advice for a good configuration to start with, we' looking to co-lo with CalPop in downtown LA. We've looked at Dell, ABMX.com, and got a quote from CalPop (they make their own servers as they also do managed hosting). Price range has been anywhere from about $1200-$3300 per server. We're thinking to start with a web server and db server, both with mirrored drives. It would be nice to stay under about 2k per server if possible. Min configuration for each would probably be a quad-core with 8GB Ram. Thinking to run Windows Server 2008 R2 (Web Edition?) and SQL Server 2008. Looking for advice on the best server configurations and/or brands that fit the budget, yet will allow us to smoothly scale as traffic increases. Reliability is also pretty important. Also wondering if a switch/router is necessary or useful to connect the two servers.

The trouble I am having is that the access points here are wifi only and no RJ45 and I need to use RJ45 to connect some equipment that I am working with. I have purchased an RT-N66U and installed Tomato (shibby ver. 1.28) and successfully replaced the existing access point, but now I want to enable the access point that I have replaced as it links wirelessly to 3 others. Can I plug in a cable from the access point to my RT-N66U and get it to access the internet via my router? I have no access to the existing wireless access point, and don't want to reset it as it's not mine. There is another router situated in the roof somewhere which I also have no access to, but it's supplying my RT-N66U internet and I most definitely have a double-nat, which although isn't the best way of doing things I am limited with what I can do. Any suggestions on routing tables, vlans etc would be helpful, but I have no experience in these fields before - but I know the tomato firmware can cater for this. My router is set to IP 10.0.1.1 and dhcp is 10.0.1.100-200 The wireless access point address was 192.168.1.2 but this was assigned by the router in the roof which has the address 192.168.1.1. There is a cable from this router going to a wall socket which I now have my RT-N66u attached to via the WAN port. I understand it's scruffy and it isn't the way to do things but I have tried to ask for the admin details but as the wireless network is looked after by a third party and nobody knows their details I am stuck with this dilemma. I could buy three wireless access points and replace the existing but this isn't what I want to do, and although I have installed plenty of DD-WRT wireless repeater bridges they simply don't work here for some unknown reason. The phone line here is very noisy too and I don't have the rights to install ADSL in a building that isn't mine, and 3G coverage isn't good enough either. Thanks for your time
