  • Problem with bootstrap loader and kernel

    We are working on a project to learn how to write a kernel and learn the ins and outs. We have a bootstrap loader written and it appears to work. However we are having a problem with the kernel loading. In addition, the bootloader and kernel do work within bochs as we do get the message "Welcome to our OS". But booting from the floppy we get output like so: Loading Kernel Shell ........... ERROR : Press key to reboot Other specifics: OpenSUSE 11.2, GNOME desktop, AMD x64 Any other information I may have missed, feel free to ask. I tried to get everything in here that would be needed. If I need to, I can find a way to get the entire bootloader.asm posted somewhere. We are not really interested in using GRUB either for several reasons. This could change, but we want to see this boot successful before we really consider GRUB.

    I'm (lazily) using shell_exec() to execute a Twitter API Call. shell_exec('curl -u user:password -d "id=3191321" http://api.twitter.com/1/twitterapi/twitterlist/members.xml'); That works fine when I authenticate correctly and put in a number for the id. But when I try to put in a variable ($id), it screws up. $addtolist = shell_exec('curl -u pxlist:Weekend1 -d "id='.$id.'" http://twitter.com/username/twitterlist/members.xml'); I tried flipping the quote types $addtolist = shell_exec("curl -u pxlist:Weekend1 -d 'id=$id' http://twitter.com/username/twitterlist/members.xml"); I tried using double quotes and escaping them $addtolist = shell_exec("curl -u pxlist:Weekend1 -d \"id=$id\" http://twitter.com/username/twitterlist/members.xml"); None of them worked. What am I doing wrong?

Returning results : http://search.twitter.com/search.json?q="ipad+AND+ipod"+OR+"joke+AND+funny"&rpp=100&callback=? But there's results with #ipod AND #ipad because when I search only for #ipod, I can see a lot of posts with both hashtags. Example : http://search.twitter.com/search.json?q=%23ipad&rpp=100&callback=? P.S. %23 = # Any idea?

    I'm producing HTML from twitter search results. Happily using the Net::Twitter module :-) One of the rules in Twitter is that all-numeric hashtags are not links. This allows to unambiguously tweet things like "ur not my #1 anymore", as in here: http://twitter.com/natarias2007/status/11246320622 The solution I came up with looks like: $tweet =~ s{#([0-9]*[A-Za-z_]+[0-9]*)}{<a href="http://twitter.com/search?q=%23$1">#$1</a>}g; It seems to work (let's hope), but I'm still curious... how would you do it?

    Hi, We're about to launch a little twitter Christmas competition, and I've run into a little snag. To enter, people will need to post a tweet in the following format: @user blah, blah, blah #hashtag Currently, I have a form where they enter their answer (the blah, blah, blah) and a PHP script which encodes the entire statement and adds on the twitter url: http://www.twitter.com/home?status=%40user%20blah%2Cblah%2Cblah%20%23hashtag Then takes the user to twitter and puts the status in the update field. However, whilst the spaces (%20) are decoded fine the @ and # characters remain as %40 & %23 respectively, even when the tweet is posted. I cannot put the actual characters in the url as twitter mistakes this for a search. Is there any way to solve this? I'd like to do it without requiring username & password etc if possible. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

The problem is that my nav bar, once collapsed, will not drop down when I click the dropdown icon.     I'm developing a javascript App that needs, as part of its functionality, for users to be able to update their Twitter status. The App is designed to work on mobiles, and as such I don't really want to be sending users all the way over to the Twitter site to sign in; they should just be able to pass their credentials to the app, and I'll handle all the signin. So I'm trying to use the Basic Auth with the restful API. However, whenever I call this code, I get a "401 Unauthorized" error from Twitter.     To note, I'm not interested in simply 'hiding' content for mobile devices, I want to filter out that content completely. I'm also not trying to address the issue by building a mobile specific interface (mob.example.com). There was another question regarding something similar: How do I prevent useless content load on the page in responsive design? The solution, in that post, was to set a session during the initial request, and then use the session to filter content on subsequent requests. I primarily develop in Rails, and I'm wondering if there are any gems or ruby-specific solutions to this problem?

  • How much to charge Ruby on Rails Website [closed]

    I figured it be appropriate to ask this question on webmasters, over the stackoverflow site seeing as there are similar questions here. I am freelancing for a client in the Boston area, who has the html/css templates for their site made by another web designer. They are basically looking for someone to set up the template, and then make the backend so that a user can purchase music on their site (they are musicians). I am wondering then what would be an appropriate amount to charge them to develop such a system, I am a student, and this would be my 3rd Ruby on Rails project, but probably at least the 20 web design project I have been hired to do and I have other programming knowledge, Python, C, etc. I am thinking of suggesting that they pay 1000usd to set up such a system, but I don't know if this is appropriate. To me it seems justifiable given my experience, and the low end of RoR developers I have seen charging 25usd/hr all the way up to 150usd/hr. Any advice would be appreciated.

    I need to integrate a free/busy calendar integration with Zimbra. Unlike outlook, it seems, Zimbra requires polling their API. I need to be able to grab the free/busy data in background tasks for 10's of thousands of users on a regular time interval, preferably every few minutes. What would be the best way to implement this in a Rails application without bogging down our current resque tasks? I have considered moving this process to something like node.js or something similar in Ruby. The biggest problem is that we have no control over the IO, as each clients Zimbra instances could be slow and we don't want to create a huge backup in tasks. Thoughts and ideas?

  • Good ergonomic keyboards for ruby/rails programmer using vim (on Mac) [closed]

    I'm looking to buy an ergonomic keyboard but I'm unable to find answers for my specific needs. I'm a programmer so I need to be able to have quick/easy access to my curly brace and bracket keys. I use vim extensively so having the ctrl and esc keys in a easier to reach location would help. I'm also a mac user (doing ruby/rails dev). With all these things in mind, what are some good options for ergonomic keyboards? I'm afraid someone will see this as "off topic" but please realize I need to ask fellow programmers. For example, I was thinking of the Kinesis Keyboard but read some reviews saying it's not good for programming. That's when I realized other programmers would be the best at answering this question.

  • Migrating Ruby on Rails Website to New Server (Linux)

    I have an existing website that is a Ruby on Rails project. I have another server i need to transfer the existing website too. The server i wish to transfer too was originally hosting the website so has the necessary gems/configuration are installed. I have tar the current releases shared dir from the old server and transfered them over to the new server. I have then unpack the tar in the apps directory to the new location which is a different URL path. My problem is now as you can see below that the path on the current - is pointing to the old url.
