    Setup Windows 7 64-bit host OS running VirtualBox 4.2, with Ubuntu 12.04 guest OS. OpenSSH server is installed and running (ssh -v localhost connects locally in the guest machine). Can SSH to external servers (no outbound Windows firewall rule blocking port 22) Can ping the IP of the guest (192.168.56.101) Problem Using PuTTY to SSH to the IP of the guest OS (192.168.56.101), PuTTY returns almost immediately with Network error: connection refused How can I diagnose & resolve this issue?

    I was thinking of turning this on some large databases not just mail files - we have around 8 - 10GB of large databases as well as small databases of couple of hundred MB in size.   • Packet dropped even when firewall is turned off in windows server 2008

    We have a windows 2008 server and lately we have started seeing a lot of 5152 Events logged in the server (Windows Filtering Platform blocked a packet). We have an inbound rule configured to allow connections to the port which was working fine earlier. I'm not sure what changed lately. But this doesn't make any sense. The packet is dropped even when windows firewall is disabled. What am I missing?

  • Spam daily report on servers using sendmail

    Hello, we'd like to implement a daily spam report to our users like Dreamhost does. Basically we need to send a daily mail (at midnight for example) to inform a single user of all the emails currently in his spam folder with the related score to let them look right away if there's a false positive. We use a basic sendmail server with procmail to redirect spam to the spam folder in each home directory. Do you know if is there a perl script or some other tool that does just that?   • Stop squid caching 302 and 307 with deny_info

    TLDR: 302, 307 and Error pages are being cached. Need to force a refresh of the content. Long version: I've setup a very minimal squid instance running on a gateway which shouldn't not cache ANYTHING but needs to be solely used as a domain based web filter. I'm using another application which redirects un-authenticated users to the proxy which then uses the deny_info option redirects any non-whitelisted request to the login page. After the user has authenticated the firewall rule gets placed so they no longer get sent to the proxy. The problem is that when a user hits a website (xkcd.com) they are unauthenticated so they get redirected via the firewall: iptables -A unknown-user -t nat -p tcp --dport 80 -j REDIRECT --to-port 39135 to the proxy at this point squid redirects the user to the login page using a 302 (i've also tried 307, and i've also make sure the headers are set to no-cache and/or no-store for Cache-Control and Pragma). Then when the user logs into the system they get firewall rule which no longer directs them to the squid proxy. But if they go to xkcd.com again they will have the original redirection page cached and will once again get the login page. Any idea how to force these redirects to NOT be cached by the browser? Perhaps this is a problem w/ the browsers and not squid, but not sure how to get around it. After days and days trying to figure it out, only through a random stumble I found client_persistent_connections off server_persistent_connections off This did the trick. So it wasn't so much cache as it was a single persistent connection messing things up. W000T!

  • How to prevent iCal from sending email

    For the past two years I have been using John Maisey's most excellent iCal Reply Checker to take control over iCal's aggressive notification emails. Sadly, it doesn't work in OS X 10.6. (John clearly states on his web site that it's for 10.4 and 10.5, so this is entirely my fault, not at all his.) Does anyone know another way to prevent iCal from sending mail? Thanks.

I have setup my Gmail account in Outlook using IMAP like is suggested here - http://www.keenerliving.com/importing-outlook-into-gmail - and I can successfully upload Outlook emails into Gmail, but Exchange mail doesn't copy across the sender and receivers. All Exchange emails in Gmail are listed as sent by (unknown sender). How do you upload Exchange emails into Gmail from Outlook while maintaining the correct From and To email addresses?

  • 2 Servers setup for redundency, backup

    I presently have 1 dedicated virtual server running my website/blog/mail, etc. This is on Hyper-V with 512MB RAM. Windows Web2008. With the VM, I have these running within it: SmarterMail – for emails MS DNS – I have my own nameservers on this server SQL Express IIS7 2 IP Address I have now leased 2 physical servers : P4 2.6Ghz 1GB RAM 80GB HDD. With these new servers, I get 2 IPs per server as well. These are running Windows 2008 Standard. With the VM the HDD was obviously on a RAID setup so I was not worried about hardware issues as it fell on the provider to manage. However, with the new servers the HDD is not RAID’d, hence my concern is that if it fails I need a backup position. What would be the most ideal setup to go for? I am thinking: Server 1: (Web/PrimaryDNS) DNS – NS1 SQL Express – OFF turn on when required, ie. Server2 is down SmarterMail – OFF turn on when required, ie. Server2 is down IIS 7 Server2:(SQL/Backup) DNS – NS2 SQL Web Edition SmarterMail IIS 7 How can I set it up so that if 1 goes down I can have everything on 2 instantly or by manual switching over. I am confused as other DNS servers will cache the web servers IP address for requests, and if that server goes down, the backup server will have a different IP. How do I make this work? I will be doing routine backups, in which case I will keep copies of backups on both servers. If I am copying the same stuff on both servers like a mirror then I am losing on using the true performance out of it. It's like 1 server is always on standby. Ideally I want SQL and web on 2 diff machines for best performance. If Server1 goes down, I should be able to switch to Server2 fairly easily. I don't have a problem with manual intervention to start the sql/mail services, etc. In terms of scalabilty, the VM has coped pretty well to date. Moving forward the SQL and IIS workload is going to double pretty quickly. Some ideas would be great.

  • Is WAP still in use?

    I apologize if this question sounds too generic, but I am researching WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) and I am having a hard time finding recent news. Do cell phones still use WAP or is it replaced by TCP/IP? I am guessing that since WiFi is supported in new cell phones, WAP isn't used anymore. Or did I misunderstand what is WAP? Is any aspect of WAP used today? I supposed there is still Push Mail and MMS.

  • Squidguard (or equivalent) for IPv6

    We have recently implemented (native) IPv6 in our network. Everything is working very well so far, but our IPv4 network passes all HTTP traffic through Squid (2.7.STABLE6 on Ubuntu Server) + SquidGuard for filtering purposes. This is all managed via a redirect rule on the firewall (via Shorewall). I'm wondering now if it's possible to do the same thing with IPv6 at all. If it's any help we're using Shorewall6 for IPv6 traffic.

  • Can you disable your Gmail account but still view the messages?

    Howdy, Is there a way to disable a Gmail account but still be able to login and see the messages. I would also like to send an auto responder to any messages that may be addressed to that account. I have setup a filter on all incoming mail with a * for the From search term and am able to delete them. But it appears that the auto-responder does not work for messages that do not go through the inbox. Any other ideas? Thank you, Keith

    I am quite new in setting up e-mail server on linux - I barely set up the whole think to get it working and connected it with my domain and php script which uses PHPMailer 5.2.1. In my setting I am using smtp server from my web provider (domain) and all e-mail which are not defined (trash) are sent on one simple address like I have address [email protected]. So when somebody will send email to [email protected] it will be forwarded again to [email protected] even in case of failure. I am receiving emails like: Hi. This is the qmail-send program at comercio.interone.com.br. I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses. This is a permanent error; I've given up. I remember using MSN messenger and having a file transfer feature that worked decently well. However, my friend doesn't have this software and doesn't want to get it.     We're using the default SMTP server for our websites to send mail with, but in the last day sending messages started getting this error: Insufficient system storage. The server response was: 4.3.1 Out of memory Further digging found this message in the System event log: SMTP server cannot create a file in the queue directory C:\Inetpub\mailroot\Queue\ I've since given the Everyone account full control of the mailroot folder but it's still happening. There's enough space on the server and to the best of my knowledge nothing on the server has been changed
