  I have this code on my JSP page <form action="LoginServlet" method="get"> <input type="text" name="username" /> <input type="text" name="password" /> <input type="submit" value="Submit" /> </form> and when I press Submit I get: The page cannot be displayed The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings. and LoginServlet.doGet method doesn't get called. But then when I press Enter again (in address bar) my doGet method gets called. What is wrong? I am using JEE eclipse and Tomcat

• Initial conditions with a non-linear ODE in Mathematica

  Hi, I'm trying to use Mathematica's NDSolve[] to compute a geodesic along a sphere using the coupled ODE: x" - (x" . x) x = 0 The problem is that I can only enter initial conditions for x(0) and x'(0) and the solver is happy with the solution where x" = 0. The problem is that my geodesic on the sphere has the initial condition that x"(0) = -x(0), which I have no idea how to tell mathematica. If I add this as a condition, it says I'm adding True to the list of conditions. • Check whether Excel file is Password protected

  I am trying to open an Excel (xlsm) file via VBA. It may or may not be protected with a (known) password. I am using this code: On Error Resume Next Workbooks.Open filename, Password:=user_entered_pw opened = (Err.Number=0) On Error Goto 0 Now, this works fine if the workbook has a password. But if it is unprotected, it can NOT be opened. Apparently this is a bug in XL2007 if there is also workbook structure protection active. (http://vbaadventures.blogspot.com/2009/01/possible-error-in-excel-2007.html). On old XL2003, supplying a password would open both unprotected and password protected file. I tried: Workbooks.Open filename, Password:=user_entered_pw If (Err.Number <> 0) Then workbooks.open filename This works for unprotected and protected file. However if the user enters a wrong password it runs into the second line and pops up the "enter password" prompt, which I do not want. How to get around this?

• Is there a mode for different Paypal IPN?

  I have a donation script at this moment where the user inputs the donation amount on the Paypal website. The problem with this is that some people donate $0.30 which equates to $0 after Paypal fees. I want to put first check the amount donated using an input on my website and then send off the amount to the Paypal website where they can continue to enter their credit card information and what not. How do I do this? Do I have to change to another mode? or am I supposed to send the amount to Paypal and then they'll know how it's handled?

  Hello, I am not a SQL Expert. I’m trying to elegantly solve a query problem that others have had to have had. Surprisingly, Google is not returning anything that is helping. Basically, my application has a “search” box. This search field will allow a user to search for customers in the system. I have a table called “Customer” in my SQL Server 2008 database. This table is defined as follows: Customer UserName (nvarchar) FirstName (nvarchar) LastName (nvarchar) As you can imagine, my users will enter queries of varying cases and probably mis-spell the customer’s names regularly. How do I query my customer table and return the 25 results that are closest to their query? I have no idea how to do this ranking and consider the three fields listed in my table. Thank you!

  I'm not sure how to fix this or what I did wrong, but whenever I enter in a value it just closes out the run prompt. So, seems I do have a problem somewhere in my coding. Whenever I run the program and input a variable, it always returns the same answer.."The content at location 76 is 0." On that note, someone told me that "I don't know, but I suspect that Program A incorrectly has a fixed address being branched to on instructions 10 and 11." - mctylr but I'm not sure how to fix that..   I published my app. I request a review to more than 150 sites but only 8 of them give me a (good) review. I can't reach the most famous blogs because I have to pay to bring on top of their queue. Now, my app seems to be nice but I have only 65 users playing it. This 65 users seems to really like it because I can see there are a lot of games played tracked in my stats. A lot of users say that my app is "fun like Doodle Jump and very addictive". So, what's the problem? Why only 65 people? In a word, how can simple games such "Doodle Jump" or "Flight Control" enter in top 10? What's their secret? What's my mistake? UPDATE: I have a site describing my app.

  In your experience, what kinds of things have turned away users and prospective users from using your programs? Also, what kinds of things turn you away from using someone else's programs? For example, one thing that really bugs me is when someone provides free software, but requires you to enter your name and email address before you download it. Why do they need my name and email address? I just want to use the program! I understand that the developer(s) may want to get a feel for how many users they have, etc, but the extra work I have to do really makes me think twice about downloading their software, even if it does really great things.

  I'm having the following problem: I'm using Oracle ADF for the view and controller of my app. With OpenSessionInViewFilter, I intercept the request and open an Hibernate's Session, and it is closed as soon as the bean's method finishes. What I need is to keep the Session opened until the page is rendered, because in my JSP y use the lazy attributes of the object i load from the DB. For example: When I enter index.jspx the IndexBean#main() is executed: public class IndexBean{ private DBObject myDBObject; public String main(){ this.myDBObject = this.myDAO.loadObjectFromDB(); return null; } } in index.jspx I have: ... <af:inputText value="#{myDBObject.lazyAttribute}" /> ... • Linenumber for Exception thrown in runtime-compiled DotNET code

  Not quite the same as this thread, but pretty close. My program allows people to enter some VB or C# code which gets compiled, loaded and executed at runtime. My CompilerParams are: CompilerParameters params = new CompilerParameters(); params.GenerateExecutable = false; params.GenerateInMemory = true; params.IncludeDebugInformation = false; params.TreatWarningsAsErrors = false; params.WarningLevel = 4; When this code throws an exception I'd like to be able to display a message box that helps users debug their code. The exception message is easy, but the line-number is where I got stuck. I suspect that in order to get at the line number, I may need to drastically change the CompilerParameters and perhaps even the way these dlls get stored/loaded. Does anyone know the least steps needed to get this to work?

• Can I use foreach to return only a certain type from a collection?

  If I enter the code below, I get an error. Basically, the foreach will break when it comes across a Control that isn't a label. foreach (Label currControl in this.Controls()) { ... } I have to do something like this. foreach (Control currControl in this.Controls()) { if(typeof(Label).Equals(currControl.GetType())){ ... } } can anyone think of a better way of doing it without me needing to check the type?   I'm doing Javascript validation on my number fields. I'm using RegEx to do this - first time RegEx user. I need the user to only enter numbers and decimals, but not commas. (i.e. 3600.00 is okay, but 3,600.00 is not). I can't figure out how to eliminate the commas as an accepted character. Any help is appreciated. • Perl : how to interrupt/resume loop by user hitting a key?

  Hi all: This is for debugging purpose. I've got a for loop that generates some output to Cygwin bash's CLI. I know that I can redirect outputs to text files and use Perl or even just a normal text editor to inspect the values printed out for a particular iteration, just feel that a bit painful. What I am now thinking is, to place a special subroutine inside the for loop, so that it would be "interrupted" at the beginning of each iteration, and Perl script should only resume to run after user/programmer hits a key(the Enter Key from keyboard?) In this way I can directly inspect the values printed out during each iteration. Is there a simple way to do this, without using additional libraries/CPAN ? Many thanks to the hints/suggestions in advance.

• Good workflow with emacs+swank+slime+clojure?

  I just wanted opinion on good workflow using the emacs environment with clojure+swank+slime. I often find myself doing very repetitive keycommands and wonder if there is an obvious better way. I include swank with lein and start my project using lein swank from shell. Then I connect with emacs and do the correct use commands so that I can start to use (run-tests ). Then I do some coding and then want to test. To run the test I need to change buffer in emacs to the swank-repl C-x o, then I need to go to the prompt M-, then repeat the command M-p, then enter, maybe with an exception, then back to the code buffer and continue all over again with all the emacs commands. I find it a bit repetitive. I guess the solution would be to start hack on emacs and maybe add a shortcut for doing this repetitive task, but I would love to hear some suggestions because I can't be the only one who find this tedious?

• Implementing a 'Send Feedback' feature in a Java desktop application

  I would like to implement a 'Send Feedback' option in a Java desktop application. One which will pop up a box for the user to enter a comment, then send it to us along with a screenshot of the application window. How would be the best way to communicate the data to us? Two obvious solutions spring to mind: Email - I'm thinking that the application would connect to an SMTP server set-up by us, with the username/password somehow hidden in the code. SMTP over SSL for security (not of the data being sent, but of the SMTP username/password). Web service - pretty self explanatory. Which of these would be best, or is there a better alternative?

• What format do I use to store a relatively small amount of user data

  I am writing a small program for our local high school (pro bono). The program has an interface allows the user to enter school holidays. This is a simple stand alone Windows app. What format should I use to store the data? A big relational data is obviously overkill. My initial plan was to store the data in an XML file. Co-workers have been suggesting that I use JSON files, Access Databases, SQL Lite, and SQL Server Express. There was even a suggestion of old school INI files.

• Help getting ActiveScaffold to work properly

  Hey there I was curious about the ActiveScaffold Rails plugin, but somehow I can't get it to work properly. I've followed the steps which are described on http://activescaffold.com/tutorials/ . The table and everything shows up and when I click on "Create new", the dialog pops up. However, when I fill out the form and click "Create", I just get "500 Internal server error". In the server log, it says "NameError (wrong constant name ###):", with ### being what I entered in the first form field. If I don't enter anything in the form, it says "NoMethodError (undefined method `new_record?' for #):"... So what am I doing wrong here? Thanks in advance for your help :)

• Longer Form Fields in Drupal

  I have a really silly problem that has cost me a load of time already. I have created a content template with a URL in there. When I look at the HTML code for it, I see a big fat "maxlength=256" in the form tag. I'd like to expand the length of this field, because my customer wishes to enter really long links (over 500 characters). Any idea how I can change it? When I do a generic search through the code I see so many occurences of 256, but the length might just as well be in the database somewhere. I have of course made the database field a longer varchar (1024 sounded poetic to me), so that's something I don't have to worry about. I think it's silly, but the customer's always right, as we know. I am using Drupal 6.14.

  I want to create a browser based game and I have a huge problem, the game can be easily hacked. The problem is at a page where you can go to "work", I store in a file the work ending date and the amount of money what you will receive after finishing the work. There are 4 type of works. The problem is that I use ajax to send to a php file the necessary information. The URL looks like this x.php?date=....&pay=.... The javascript part of the page calculates the date and the pay but if you simply enter in your URL bar x.php?date=anynumber&pay=99999 you will receive that 99999 dollars. What should I do ? And sorry for my bad english :)
