• Inject a EJB into a JSF converter with JEE6

  Hi, I have a stateless EJB that acceses my database. I need this bean in a JSF 2 converter to retreive an entity object from the String value parameter. I'm using JEE6 with Glassfish V3 @EJB annotation does not work and gets a NPE, because it's in the faces context and it has not access to the ejb context. My question is: Is it still possible to Inject this bean (With a @Resource or other annotation, a JNDI lookup,...), or do i need a workaround? • Google App Engine - About how much quota does a single datastore put use?

  The latency for a datastore put is about 150ms (http://code.google.com/status/appengine/detail/datastore/2010/03/11#ae-trust-detail-datastore-put-latency). About how much CPUTime is used by a single datastore put with data size of 100 bytes, into an entity that has only 2 columns, and no indexes? I plan to do some testing with this later today to figure it out, but if anyone already knows that would help me out :). Also, does anyone know about how much extra overhead in CPUTime doing this datastore put through the task queue would be? • How can I use different metadata for a Dynamic Data form view and the list view?

  We often need a summarised list view with more detailed form view. So far, the only two way I can think of doing this are using a 'custom' list or form view than uses a sumplimentary 'remove' or 'add' list of fields anb generalise this over all entity sets, or create a custom metadata provider that infers somehow which columns to supply. Are there any other ways of distinguishing these two views? PS, I wrote a fun little general details page, that handles insert, edit, and view, all on one page template. Maybe I could somehow use that? It's here.

  Senario: Open an account in CRM 2011 beta and click on activities on the left navigation pane, you will now see activities of the selected account and now have two filter drop down lists on the top which allow you to view activities of the account or sub accounts of this account. Is this filter drop downs something customizable or is it a feature only available for system entities (like acitivity)? Is this functionality provided because Activity entity have N:1 relationship with Type of Behavior = System? can we provide the same or similar functionality by using Type of behavior = Parental!?!? • How do you map a composite id to a composite user type with Fluent NHibernate?

  i'm working w/ a legacy database is set-up stupidly with an index composed of a char id column and two char columns which make up a date and time, respectively. I have created a icompositeusertype for the date and time columns to map to a single .NET DateTime property on my entity, which works by itself when not part of the id. i need to somehow use a composite id with key property mapping that includes my icompositeusertype for mapping to the two char date and time columns. Apparently w/ my version of Fluent NHibernate, CompositeIdentityPart doesn't have a CustomTypeIs() method, so i can't just do the following in my override: mapping.UseCompositeId() .WithKeyProperty(x => x.Id, CommonDatabaseFieldNames.Id) .WithKeyProperty(x => x.FileCreationDateTime) .CustomTypeIs<FileCreationDateTimeType>(); is something like this even possible w/ NHibernate let alone Fluent? I haven't been able to find anything on this.

Is it possible to influenece on the order of displayed fields somehow?

• Updating Many-to-Many relationship with LinqToSQL

  If I had, for example, a Many-to-Many mapping table called "RolesToUsers" between a Users and an Roles table, here is how I do it: // DataContext is db, usr is a User entity // newUserRolesMappings is a collection with the desired new mappings, probably // derived by looking at selections in a checkbox list of Roles on a User Edit page db.RolesToUsers.DeleteAllOnSubmit(usr.RolesToUsers); usr.RolesToUsers.Clear(); usr.RolesToUsers.AddRange(newUserRolesMappings); I used the SQL profiler once, and this seems to generate very intelligent SQL - it will only drop the rows which are no longer in the mapping relationship, and only add rows which did not already exist in the relationship. It doesn't blindly do a complete clearing and re-construction of the relationship, as I thought it would. The internet is surprisingly quiet on the subject, and the query "LinqToSQL many-to-many" mostly just turns up articles about how the LinqToSQL data mapper doesn't "support" it very well. How does everyone else update many-to-many with LinqToSQL?

• Symfony2 & Twig - theming file upload widget

  I have an Symfony2 edit form for an entity and one of the fields is for the user's profile picture. I'm trying to theme the Twig file upload widget so that the current picture set for the field is displayed above the file input. So far, I have: {% form_theme edit_form _self %} {% block field_widget %} {% set type = type|default('text') %} {% if type == 'file' %} <img src="{{ value }}" /> {% endif %} {{ block('form_widget_simple') }} {% endblock %} All works well except that the value variable is blank (which makes sense I guess). My question is how can I get hold of the path to the file? Is there a way to pick it out of the form values for the field? Could I perhaps pass it through as an option to the field? Srz if this is a dumb question, still pretty new to Symfony and Twig..

  Hi, Im loading an entity 'Member' from its id in route data. [ListItemsForMembershipType(true)] public ActionResult Edit(Member someMember) {...} The attribute on the action loads the membership type list items for a dropdown box and sticks it in viewdata. This is fine for add forms, and search forms (it gets all active items) but I need the attribute to execute BASED ON THE VALUE someMember.MembershipTypeId, because its current value must always be present when loading the item (i.e. all active items, plus the one from the loaded record). So the question is, what is the standard pattern for this? How can my attribute accept the value or should I be loading the viewdata for the drop down in a controller supertype or during model binding or something else? It is in an attribute now because the code to set the viewdata would otherwise be duplicated in each usage in each action.

  I am very new to Fluent NHibernate and I have a problem that I cant find the answer to. I have a string column in my database table, containing a mathematical expression i.e: "10 + 15 * 5". On my entity I have a property that I call Formula and this returns a class that contains the mathematical "formula" (not as a string). I beleive this post http://intellect.dk/post/Implementing-custom-types-in-nHibernate.aspx explains how to solve it for NHibernate. But I am not sure... How do I get this working with Fluent NHibernate?

• Core Data produces Analyzer warnings

  Hi I am doing the final touch ups on an app and I am getting rid of every compiler/analyzer warning. I have a bunch of Class methods that wrap my apps access to Core Data entities. This is "provoking" the analyzer. + (CDProductEntity*) newProductEntity { return (CDProductEntity*)[NSEntityDescription insertNewObjectForEntityForName:@"CDProductEntity" inManagedObjectContext:[self context]]; } Which results in an Analyzer warning: Object with +0 retain counts returned to caller where a +1 (owning) retain count is expected In the method that calls the above Class Method I have this: CDProductEntity *newEntity = [self newProductEntity]; Which results in an Analyzer warning: Method returns an Objective-C object with a +1 retain count (owning reference) Explicitly releasing or autoreleasing a Core Data entity is usually very very bad, but is that what it is asking me to do here? First it tells me it has a +0 retain count and that is bad, then it tells me it has a +1 which is also bad. What can I do to ensure that I am either dealing with a Analyzer hiccup or that I release correctly? Thanks in advance

  Hi everyone, I have a one-to-many relationship between Part and Params (a "Part" has many "Params). I'm trying to do something naive like this: Part sourcePart = em.find(Part.class, partIdSource); Part destPart = em.find(Part.class, partIdDest); Collection<Param> paramListSource = sourcePart.getParamList(); destPart.setParamList(paramListSource); Basically I want to copy all the parameters from sourcePart to destPart. Hopefully the persistence provider will automatically set the right foreign keys in the Param table/entity. The above code will obviously not work. Is there any easy way of doing this, or do I have to do create a new collection, then add each Param (creating new Param, setting attributes, etc) ?

• Proper way to structure a Sync Framework DAL

  I am creating a WPF app that needs to allow users to work in a temporary disconnected state and I plan to use a Local Database Cache. My question's are about my data access layer. Do you typically create the whole DAL to point at the Cache or both and create a switching mechanism? Is Entity's a good way to go for my DAL against the Cache? I am used to L2S but my understanding is that I can't use that against SQLCE, correct? Thanks! PS: Any good resources out there for using Sync, Linq, and WPF ALL TOGETHER? Tutorials, videos, etc?

• How to handle null {id} on route?

  What if a user hits my site with http://www.mysite.com/Quote/Edit rather than http://www.mysite.com/Quote/Edit/1000 In other words, they do not specify a value for {id}. If they do not, I want to display a nice "Not Found" page, since they did not give an ID. I currentl handle this by accepting a nullable int as the parameter in the Controller Action and it works fine. However, I'm curious if there a more standard MVC framework way of handling this, rather than the code I presently use (see below). Is a smoother way to handle this, or is this pretty mush the right way to do it? • Map null column as 0 in a legacy database (JPA)

  Using Play! framework and it's JPASupport class I have run into a problem with a legacy database. I have the following class: @Entity @Table(name="product_catalog") public class ProductCatalog extends JPASupport { @Id @GeneratedValue(strategy = GenerationType.IDENTITY) public Integer product_catalog; @OneToOne @JoinColumn(name="upper_catalog") public ProductCatalog upper_catalog; public String name; } Some product catalogs don't have an upper catalog, and this is referenced as 0 in a legacy database. If I supply the upper_catalog as NULL, then expectedly JPA inserts a NULL value to that database column. How could I force the null values to be 0 when writing to the database and the other way around when reading from the database?

License is an entity class,and it is not in my scope to modify it. So I cannot mark it as serializabel neither i can use IpropertyChanged Interface. I am trying to write a RegExp to convert this to an HTML entity that looks like "&#x1F36B;". This displays the character correctly in my html page. I haven't been able to correctly display the character that should be associated with "\uf36b", especially when in a longer sentence that also includes other text. How can I write a regexp that replaces strings like "\uf4d6" and "\uf36b" but leaves other text alone? Example: var str = "I need \uf36b #chocolate"; This should be converted to: I need &#x1F36B; #chocolate;

  I am learning JPA and have confusion in the @SequenceGenerator annotation. Upto my understanding, it automatically assigns a value to numeric identity fields/properties of an entity. Q1. Does this sequence generator make use of the database's increasing numeric value generating capability or generates the number on his own? Q2. If JPA uses database auto increement feauture, then will it work with datastores that don't have auto increement feature? Q3. If JPA generate numeric value on his own, then how the JPA implementation knows which value to generate next? Does it consult with the database first to see what value was stored last so as to generate the value (last + 1). ====================================================================================== Q4. Please also throw some light on sequenceName and allocationSize properties of @SequenceGenerator annotation.

I guess ancestor() filter does not help because those entities are modified in memory. Should I not to iterate reference property in transaction function and always provide them as function parameters like def bulk_update_album_group(updated,deleted): ??? Is there any good coding pattern for this situation?

  I receive the following exception when Im trying to alter my @ID in an @Entity. identifier of an instance of com.google.search.pagerank.ItemEntity was altered from 1 to 2. I know that im altering the primary key in my table. Im using JPA-annotations. I solved this by using this single HQL query: update Table set name=:newName where name=:oldName instead of using the more oo approach: beginTransaction(); T e = session.load(...); e.setName(newName); session.saveOrUdate(e); commit(); Any idea what the diff is?

Unfortunately the value which is coming from the database is getting automatically html escaped -- which I do now want it to -- how do I suppress this?
