  • Erlang: What are the pros and cons of different methods for avoiding intermediate variables?

    At one point while traveling the web, I came across a great page which contrasted the clarity and terseness of different methods of doing a sequence of operations without having to make a bunch of throwaway variables, e.g., Var1, Var2, Var3. It tried list comprehensions, folds, maps, etc. For some reason, now matter what I google, I can't find it again. Anyone have any idea what I'm talking about? Or want to explore the topic anyway?

  • How do I sync iPad Notes without Mail?

    The default Notes app on the iPad is fine for my note taking needs. I see how it syncs through iTunes to Mail, but if one doesn't use Mail for e-mail management, is there any other way to sync and view the iPad notes on the desktop? (We use Eudora for mail management, and Apple's Mail is not great if all you want to do is view your notes with it.)

    Has anybody used the ATK Framework? It is claimed to be geared toward developing apps for business use. Manipulating data, knowledge bases, etc... This is what I primarily develop (on the side-for my own use). The site hasn't given me a great overview of why it may be better than other frameworks. What are your thoughts / experiences with this product?

    I am working on a site and it works/looks great in Safari, Firefox, Chrome and IE8. For some reason when testing it in IE 6 and 7 the jQuery does not work (the images are there but static) I get the following error message: Internet Explorer Script Error.     I am trying to convert this native sql into an HQL query. Basically it returns all the contacts that are duplicates (by company, firstname, and lastname). The query below works great, but performing a joined subselect seems impossible in HQL is it not?!   • What is the best way to create a shortcut hook mechanism for Office

    I am looking to create shortcut handler for MS Office. I am creating an addin with VS2010 for Office 2010. The handler needs to listen to all keyboard events when Word/PowerPoint is active. Although there is a lot of material for creating application level shortcut handlers, I couldn't find one that was specific to Office.   • Good JavaScript engine for animating via Sprite Sheets (not in canvas)

    I've looked around a bit for a great JavaScript Sprite Sheet animator lib/engine but couldn't find any good ones so I thought I'd ask around =). What I'm looking for in the engine is: Animate an image in a non-canvas setting (ex: div via css or img tags) Control frame rate/animation speed Flags to loop or to animate once etc. Are there any engines like this out there? If not I can always make my own but then again, I don't want to re-invent the wheel =].

I have an activity that on it's onCreate method it does: registerForContextMenu(theView); and in onCreateContextMenu: super.onCreateContextMenu(menu, v, menuInfo); menu.add(blablabla); This works great, but the problem is that the context menu disappears when the screen rotates. And now I start to ask myself are there situation when it's better NOT to use MVVM. Or is it such a nice pattern which you can use anywhere?     I'm using the great (IMHO) jQuery Address plugin but it's been driving me insane since I didn't know that it automatically tracked the pages on Google Analytics. How do I keep it from doing it? I tried this but apparently it's never called. $.address.tracker(function(){console.log("hello")}) I guess I could somehow overwrite the function in the plugin but I hope there's a better way...

    Python's SimpleHTTPServer is a great way of serve the contents of the current directory from the command line: python -m SimpleHTTPServer However, as far as web servers go, it's very slooooow... It behaves as though it's single threaded, and occasionally causes timeout errors when loading JavaScript AMD modules using RequireJS. It can take five to ten seconds to load a simple page with no images. What's a faster alternative that is just as convenient?
