BIP BIServer Query Debug

With some help from Bryan, I have uncovered a way of being able to debug or at least log what BIServer is doing when BIP sends it a query request. This is not for those of you querying the database directly but if you are using the BIServer and its datamodel to fetch data for a BIP report. If you have written or used the query builder against BIServer and when you run the report it chokes with a cryptic message, that you have no clue about, read on. When BIP runs a piece of BIServer logical SQL to fetch data. It does not appear to validate it, it just passes it through, so what is BIServer doing on its end? As you may know, you are not writing regular physical sql its actually logical sql e.g. select Jobs."Job Title" as "Job Title", Employees."Last Name" as "Last Name", Employees.Salary as Salary, Locations."Department Name" as "Department Name", Locations."Country Name" as "Country Name", Locations."Region Name" as "Region Name" from HR.Locations Locations, HR.Employees Employees, HR.Jobs Jobs The tables might not even be a physical tables, we don't care, that's what the BIServer and its model are for. You have put all the effort into building the model, just go get me the data from where ever it might be. How do I know what the BIServer is up to? How can I find out what the issue might be if BIServer chokes on my query? There are a couple of steps: In the Administrator tool you need to set the logging level for the Administrator user to something greater than the default '0'. '7' is going to give you the max. Just remember to take it back down after you have finished the debug. I needed to bounce my BIServer service Now here's the secret sauce. Prefix the following to your BIP query set variable LOGLEVEL = 7; Set the log level to that you have in the admin tool Now run your BIP report. With the prefix in place; BIServer will write to the NQQuery.log file. This is located in the ./OracleBI/server/Log directory. In there you are going to find the complete process the BIServer has gone through to try and get the data back for you A quick note, if the BIServer can, its going to hit that great BIEE cache to get your data and you may not see the full log. IF this is the case. Get inot hte Administration page (via the browser login) and clear out your BIP report cursor. Then re-run. This will hopefully help out if you are trying to debug that annoying BIP report that will not run or is getting some strange data. Don't forget to turn that logging level back down once you are done. This will avoid the DBA screaming at you for sucking up all the disk space on the system.

Stepping over method without symbols - How to step into?

Using Visual Studio 2008 SP1 and a VB.NET project; I have some code which i cannot step into. The Immediate Window shows the message "Stepping over method without symbols 'Some.Namespace.Here'" How can i make sure the method always has symbols?! I need to step into every line of code. I am pressing F8 (which is "Step Into" in VS2008, from memory i think it used to be F11 in VS2005). This debugger stuff has always confused me: At the Solution level Property Pages i see a configuration dropdown with 4 values: Active (Debug), Debug, Release, All Configurations. - currently set to "Active (Debug)" At the Project level, i see a configuration dropdown with 2 values: Debug, Release. - currently set to "Debug"

Can't start HTTPD

I'm trying to start httpd, but it only gives me '[FAILED]'. Now, I installed exim, but that didn't worked, so I uninstalled it. But then the web server didn't worked any more! I tried to /etc/init.d/httpd start, but that gives '[FAILED]' without a reason. Infinite loop during A* algorithm

The A* algorithm is used by enemies to have a path to the goal. It's working but when sometimes I placed a tower in a grid (randomly) it produces a stack overflow error. The A* algorithm would iterate the enemy and find its path and pass the list to the enemy's path. I added debug logs and the list that I'm getting it looks like it would arrive from start cell to goal cell. What is the correct way to handle debug output in Java?

As my current Java projects grow bigger and bigger, I feel a likewise growing need to insert debug output in several points of my code. To enable or disable this feature appropriately, depending on the opening or closure of the test sessions, I usually put a private static final boolean DEBUG = false at the beginning of the classes my tests are inspecting, and trivially use it this way (for example): public MyClass { private static final boolean DEBUG = false; ... some code ... public void myMethod(String s) { if (DEBUG) { System.out.println(s); } } } and the like. But that doesn't bliss me out, because of course it works but there could be too many classes in which to set DEBUG to true, if you are not staring at just a couple of them. Conversely, I (like - I think - many others) wouldn't love to put the whole application in debug mode, as the amount of text being output could be overwhelming. So, is there a correct way to architecturally handle such situation or the most correct way is to use the DEBUG class member?

phonegap.js crashes android app

I'm having this weird problem, where including the phonegap.js file in my project causes the app to crash on both the android emulator and my phone. I got the latest file from GitHub, so I can't see why this isn't working. This happens even if I try to build the sample project that's included in the PhoneGap download... Scala has symbols - names that start with a single quote ' and which are a kind of string constants. I know symbols from Ruby (where they start with a colon). In Ruby they are used for some meta-programming tasks, like generating getters and setters for member variables (for example attr_reader :name to generate a getter for name). I haven't seen a lot of use of symbols in Scala code yet. What are practical uses for symbols in Scala?

I have mono 2.11 set up with my nginx 1.0.15 webserver running on centos 6.2. I built it from source and xps2, xps4 and fastcgi-mono-server2 work as expected. The problem is when I try and run fastcgi-mono-server4. Is my gedit-latex-plugin working properly?

I have installed gedit-latex-plugin(0.2 rc3) to be used with gedit(2.30.3) in ubuntu 10.04. How to Collect Debug Info for Oracle SQL Developer

In a perfect world, there would be no software bugs. Developers would always test their code. QA would find any scenarios and bugs the developers hadn’t already thought of. Regression tests would be complete and flawless. But alas, we can only afford to pay mere humans here, so we will have bugs from time to time. Or sometimes you are trying to do something the software wasn’t designed for, or perhaps your machine has exhausted it’s resources trying to build the un-buildable. When you run into problems, you will need help. Developers need your help so they can help you. Surprisingly enough, feedback like this isn’t very helpful: Your program isn’t working. How can I make it work? When you are ready to work with us on the SQL Developer OTN forum, you will most likely be asked to run SQL Developer and capture the output from the command console. In case you need help with this, ere’s a step-by-step process you can follow in Windows 7 (should work in XP too.) Open a windows command window Start – Run – CMD Once it’s open, click on the window icon and select ‘Defaults.’ Change the default buffer size to be something bigger, much bigger. Set the CMD window default buffer size HIGHER Note: you only need to do this once. Navigate to your SQL Developer Installation Folder Instead of running the ‘sqldeveloper.exe’ file in the root directory, we are going to go several sub-directories down. Find the ‘bin’ sub-directory and run the ‘sqldeveloper.exe’ there. When you do this, a CMD window will open, and then you’ll see the SQL Developer application load. how to debug "deep" crashes in Android?

Hi All, I've been trying to debug an android crash that is occurring without a Java Stack Trace... Java Stack Trace bugs are very easy for me to fix... but this bug I'm getting seems to be crashing inside the "NDK" or whatever it is the deep internals of Android are called... I've made no modifications to the NDK btw... I just dunno what else to call that layer hehe. Anyway I'm mainly looking for advice on deep-debug methods, rather than help with this specific problem... because I doubt I can post all the source code involved... so really I just need to know how to set breakpoints at the deep layers or whatever other methods there are to trace deep-crashes to their source... so I will briefly describe the bug and then post a LogCat. I have an app with 7 Activities Activity_INTRO Activity_EULA Activity_MAIN Activity_Contact Activity_News Activity_Library Activity_More INTRO is the initiating one... it fades in some company logos... after displaying them for a set time it jumps to the EULA activity... after the user accepts the EULA, it jumps to MAIN... MAIN then creates a TabHost and populates it with the 4 remaining activities now heres the thing... when I click on say, the More tab of the TabHost, the app pauses for a few seconds and then hard-crashes... no java stack trace, but an actual ASM level trace with the registers and IP and stack... the same thing occurs no matter which tab I select, Contact, News, Library, More... all of them crash with the same hard-crash if however I set the manifest to start the app at Activity_MAIN, bypassing the INTRO and EULA, then these crashes do not occur... so something is lingering from those opening activities that is somehow hosing the TabHost'ed Activities... and I'm wondering what the hell that could be... because I'm using finish() on those activites when they need to jump... in fact here is how I'm doing it let me know if you see any bugs: when jumping from INTRO to EULA I do: //Display the EULA Intent newIntent = new Intent (avi, Activity_EULA.class); windbg dv cmd fail - Private symbols (symbols.pri) are required for locals

i have a C++ application compiled with VS 2008 with pdb file enabled. After i tried to use dv command to display local vars, it shows the following message: Unable to enumerate locals, HRESULT0x80004005 Private symbols (symbols.pri) are required for locals. Type ".hh dbgerr005" for details. Note that: i've run the "dv" command on the correct frame which has the symbol file. i can use "dt" command successfully. i've included the symbol path and the pdb file has been loaded successfully as following: start end module name 00400000 0043f000 helloworld (private pdb symbols) c:\test... Does anyone know the cause? Is there any configuration i missed to enable local var watch? Or VS 2008 pdb is not supported by windbg (i'm using the latest windbg version)?

WinDbg can't find mfc90 version 9.0.30729.4148 symbols on msdl.microsoft.com

I think the title states my problem fairly well. Where are those mfc symbols? Some background info: I have a crash dump that I want to analyze in WinDbg. My symbol path contains msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols (and it says h t t p first but I'm a new user here so I'm not allowed to write that twice. The 9.0.30729.4148 version seems to be installed by some Windows update When a dump contains an earlier version of mfc90, it is located by WinDbg on the Microsoft symbol server with the same settings. When I use !sym noisy, the output for mfc90.dll contains: SYMSRV: http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols/mfc90.dll/4A596D4939c000/mfc90.dll not found The same thing happens on two different computers Edit: See my comments below. The symbols are present on the server, but WinDbg can't get them.

Visual Studio Symbols stored/loaded from wrong place

Hello, I'm rather new to symbol servers and I've been experimenting with them and Visual Studio 2008 running Windows XP(SP3). I've encountered a wierd problem as my symbols are not being cached locally in the directory I've specified all the time. The possible reasons I have found for this si that the symbols(.pdb's) are being written to VS's IDE directory and/or the symbols are somehow being written in with the .exe, which I find odd since it should be read only. The symbols are being sent to the "server" I've specified so that part of the system shouldn't be the problem. Has anyone else had this type of issue before and/or maybe a solution to this problem? Thanks :)

Weird symbols on Mac

Since I've had my mac, I keep seeing this weird symbol. Till today, it had been only in the place of bullet points in OpenOffice.org. The first pictures shows this in a .doc file created on a Windows system. I thought nothing of it - just an annoyance. It appears no matter what the font. Real bullets appear if I delete the text and insert a bulletted list using the toolbar. Then, today I noticed in in iTunes - which seemed strange. Image 3 is a zoom of the character. It says on it: Private Use E000 F8FF. What is it (unicode related?), and how do I get the bullets working properly? Edit: The plot thickens... If I boot in Safe Mode, the symbols look like little snap boards like you'd have at the beginning of filming a scene in a film...

Can I get debug symbols for flash player? Or any other way to get support for flash?

The company I am working for has a flash component (using flex and cs4) that crashes intermittently in chrome, FF and IE. (so far only win32 platforms) I submitted a bug report to Adobe but have not heard anything back from them. Their support process seems like a black hole. WE can get a dump from Flash using these steps but after submitting the bug we got no help at all. We loaded this into MS visual studio but can;t get decent stack information because there are no symbols for the flash stuff. Microsoft and other companies provide symbols to help with debugging and we would like to get that from adobe. Is there any way to make progress on this? Does anyone know where to get flash symbols or how else we can make progress? It is hard to debug the process if the container just dies. the binary is flash10c.ocx I just spent a painful hour on the phone with adobe folks - and the final answer from one of them (I spoke to about 8 people) was that they do not have a per incident purchase plan for developer support for flash. I find that hard to believe. Does anyone know how to get support for Flash?

Juju Zookeeper & Provisioning Agent Not Deployed

I am using juju with the openstack provider, i expected that when i bootstrap that zookeeper and provisioning agent would get deployed on the bootstrap vm in openstack. This dose not seem to be the case. the bootstrap vm gets deployed but it seems that nothing gets deployed to the VM. So I turned on my computer and log into my gnome-shell session to find that the shell is gone, and there is instead a very thick panel with a vertically repeated pattern of the gradient the Unity panel displays. I ran some tests and found out that my graphic acceleration was failing. Debug Symbols not loading

I am trying to enable visual studio to step through the .net framework source code when I am debugging. I have tried with both Visual Web-Developer-Express-2010 and Visual-Studio-2011-Express-For-Web and I am getting the same problem with each. When I get to the break point at the .net method I wish to step into I do right-clickstep-into-specificclick-method-to-step-into. Then VS opens a new tab. saying it couldn't find or load the symbols. It gives a list of the assembly symbols it looked for. There is also a 'Load Symbols hyperlink which doesn't work. And another hyperlink that takes me to the debug settings dialog. I have read tutorials on how to set it up and have believe I have the correct settings. In the debugging general settings I have - enable address-level debugging - checked enable source server support - checked enable .net framework source stepping - checked enable just my code - not checked In the debugging symbol settings I have - symbol file (.pdb) locations - Microsoft Symbol Servers - checked Caching Directory - C:\Users\MyAccount\AppData\Local\Temp\SymbolCache Automatically load symbols for: all modules unless excluded - checked Why is it not working? Symbols taking very, very long time to load when hosting ASP.NET app in IIS

Hi, I'm hosting my project using IIS, running from Visual Studio. Whenever I recompile, on the first run it takes several minutes (on a not awful machine) to load all the symbols. Please see http://joshz.com/so/symbols.html for a list of the symbols that are loaded. At the bottom there is a ThreadAbortException, I'm not sure if this is playing a role. Any advice would be greatly appreciated; it's slowing my day down enormously! As a note: the project has never run quickly since I joined the company and started working with it.
