  • OpenLDAP User Home Directory

    I'm trying to install OpenLDAP on CentOS 6.2 . I manually added the LDAP accounts on server, and I had been successful to login the server by the LDAP username/password, but I found that the Home on Desktop of GNOME still points to a local user's Home folder, at the same time, the LDAP user's Home folder was created under /home as expected. So my question is how should I map the Home folder of desktop to the path set on LDAP server ? Thanks ! And how should I use ldapadd command, it always tells me the SASL error, but I really do not know why. Thanks !

  • aptitude: list all previous recommended packages

    sometimes when installing a package, aptitude recommends several other packages. Is there a way to show all previous recommended packages of all installed packages? Thanks in advance. Casper Edit: Thanks for the replys so far. I already tried: aptitude show ~i | grep '^Recommends' | cut -d ' ' -f 2- Thats mostly ok. But it gives also things back like: console-setup | console-data (>= 2002.12.04dbs-1) I want an easy way, to install all missing recommended packages. So aptitude install console-setup | console-data (>= 2002.12.04dbs-1) won't work ;-) Is there a way, without manual checking all entries, to do this?

  • How can I make Firefox remember my session while still clearing browsing history on close?

    I am aware, thanks to this thread ( https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/forum/1/381229 ), that Firefox doesn't save sessions when browsing history is cleared at close, as effectively the open tabs are themselves cleared from the history before the session is saved. But I would like Firefox to behave differently. Is there any way to change Firefox's behavior so it will clear my browsing history when it closes, but remember only that a certain list of tabs were open, and then restore those tabs when it opens (not even necessarily with those tabs' histories)? I'm running FF 3.5.6 on Mac OS X 10.5. Thanks.

  • Set security on pattern of sub folders (Server 2003)

    I have a folder structure similar to the one shown below these paragraphs. How do I change security on every 'Photos' folder without clicking through each individually in Windows Explorer? There are about 50 top level folders (Bob, Jim, Eva, etc, etc) which have the same layout of folders inside. I am keen for any suggestions, either scripting or GUI. I am on Windows Server 2003. Cheap/free method would be good, as the company is part of a registered charity. Ideally I would like to do this via DFS path. E.G. \\mycompany.local\Shared\Staff\Bob\ Thanks for reading.   • Samba share not accessible from Win 7 - tried advice on superuser

    I have an old Red Hat Linux box that I use, amongst other things, to run Samba. My Vista and remaining Win XP PC can access the p/w-protected Samba shares. I just set up a new Windows 7 64-bit Pro PC. Attempts to access the Samba shares by clicking on the Linux box's icon in 'Network' from this machine gave a Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password. message when I gave the correct credentials. So I followed the suggestions in Windows 7, connecting to Samba shares (also checked here but found LmCompatibilityLevel was already 1). This got me a little further. If click on the Linux box's icon in 'Network' from this machine I now see icons for the shared directories. But when I click on one of these, I get \\LX\share is not accessible. You might not have permission... etc. I tried making the Win 7 password the same as my Samba p/w (the user name was already the same). Same result. The Linux box does part of what I need for ecommerce - the in-house part, it's not accessible to the Internet. As my Linux Fu is weak, I have to avoid changes to the Linux box, so I'm hoping someone can tell me what to do to Win 7 to make it behave like XP and Vista when accessing this share. Help please!? I had set 'Network security: LAN Manager authentication level' to Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated based on the advice in Windows 7, connecting to Samba shares and had restarted the machine, but that didn't work for me. I'll try playing with other Network security values. I have now tried the following: Network security: Allow Local System to use computer identity for NTLM: changed from Not Defined to "Enabled". Restarted machine Still says "\LX\share is not accessible. You might not have permission..." etc. Network security: Restrict NTLM: Add remote server exceptions for NTLM Authentication (added LX) Restarted machine Still says "\LX\share is not accessible. You might not have permission..." etc. I can't see any other Network security settings that might affect this. Any other ideas please? Thanks Roy

This are the pertinent details from L3: WAN Network: 6.59.186.60/30 Level3 Side: 6.59.186.61 Customer Side: 6.59.186.62 Cust. LAN IPs: 6.59.192.224/27 What would be the IOS commands to setup this route correctly? Am I correct that I would the choose an IP like 6.59.192.224, subnet 255.0.0.0, gateway 6.59.186.62? Thanks

    Hi - I am hoping someone can tell me how to set a consistent subject line in Outlook 2010, if there is a way. I am trying to find out for a client of mine and I do not have 2010 so cannot even test it but will send info to him to hopefully set up. Thanks! FYI - What I have done in the past, before he upgraded, was set up a link on a toolbar with a hyperlink that contains a blank email address but with a subject entered - do you know if this will work in Outlook 2010?   • Frustration with superuser.com user interface (please migrate this to "meta")

    Can someone please migrate this question to "meta" for me? I'm unable to post there while I wait for OpenID to fix my password problems. Thanks. I'm having problems with superuser.com's interface -- when I provide an answer to a question, sometimes the buttons get locked and then I find out that the question was migrated. Usually I can go back and copy-and-paste my answer at whatever site it goes to, but on occasion my answer is lost and I have to re-type it. This is very time-consuming, and makes it quite frustrating to use the system. In addition, I find that I'm wasting a lot of time dealing with having to re-register on the other sites. My suggestion is to not de-activate the "Submit answer" button but to just forward that along to the migrated site automatically, thus ensuring that answers that people put a lot of effort into don't get lost.   • Outlook 2007 Clients attachments not opening correctly

    Hello, Thanks for taking the time to read this. We are having an issue on our Terminal Server clients that has me perplexed. We are running Server2003 x64 and Exchange 2007 environment. When we attempt to open an attachment for example .jpeg and the user selects to open the file, it prompts them to select a program to open the file with. The file associations apear to be fine, if I save the document to the desktop and open it, it opens with the correct program automatically. If i select "always open using this program" it will then open automatically, but I don't want to have to do this for all file types we open regularly on each client. Is this some sort of Exchange server security setting that is forcing them to associate the file? Does outlook or exchange maintain its own file association database? Thanks for reading!
