  • Jquery draggable + toggleClass problem..

  • Drag and drop game - why isn't it working now I've moved it to another domain?

    Earlier this year I did some work on a drag and drop game. It was the first thing I'd coded other than basic html. I got it working but then had to put it to one side for a while. I've now come back to work on it. The game I had created was put on the ftp of a domain I no longer have. I took the html and image files and put them on another domain expecting them to work. However now nothing drags! I don't know what could be different. I can barely remember how I coded this in the first place. Is there an additional file that should be on the ftp or something like that? Can anyone shed any light?   • jQuery, ASP.NET, and Browser History

    One objection that people always raise against Ajax applications concerns browser history. Because an Ajax application updates its content by performing sneaky Ajax postbacks, the browser backwards and forwards buttons don’t work as you would normally expect. In a normal, non-Ajax application, when you click the browser back button, you return to a previous state of the application. For example, if you are paging through a set of movie records, you might return to the previous page of records. In an Ajax application, on the other hand, the browser backwards and forwards buttons do not work as you would expect. If you navigate to the second page in a list of records and click the backwards button, you won’t return to the previous page. Most likely, you will end up navigating away from the application entirely (which is very unexpected and irritating). Bookmarking presents a similar problem. You cannot bookmark a particular page of records in an Ajax application because the address bar does not reflect the state of the application. The Ajax Solution There is a solution to both of these problems. To solve both of these problems, you must take matters into your own hands and take responsibility for saving and restoring your application state yourself. Furthermore, you must ensure that the address bar gets updated to reflect the state of your application. In this blog entry, I demonstrate how you can take advantage of a jQuery library named bbq that enables you to control browser history (and make your Ajax application bookmarkable) in a cross-browser compatible way. The JavaScript Libraries In this blog entry, I take advantage of the following four JavaScript files: jQuery-1.4.2.js – The jQuery library. Available from the Microsoft Ajax CDN at http://ajax.microsoft.com/ajax/jquery/jquery-1.4.2.js jquery.pager.js – Used to generate pager for navigating records. Available from http://plugins.jquery.com/project/Pager microtemplates.js – John Resig’s micro-templating library. Available from http://ejohn.org/blog/javascript-micro-templating/ jquery.ba-bbq.js – The Back Button and Query (BBQ) Library. Available from http://benalman.com/projects/jquery-bbq-plugin/ All of these libraries, with the exception of the Micro-templating library, are available under the MIT open-source license. The Ajax Application Let’s start by building a simple Ajax application that enables you to page through a set of movie database records, 3 records at a time. We’ll use my favorite database named MoviesDB. This database contains a Movies table that looks like this: We’ll create a data model for this database by taking advantage of the ADO.NET Entity Framework. The data model looks like this: Finally, we’ll expose the data to the universe with the help of a WCF Data Service named MovieService.svc. The code for the data service is contained in Listing 1. This function also renders the pager user interface. selectPage() – When you select a particular page by clicking on a page number in the pager UI, this function updates the current page index and calls the showMovies() function. Figure 1 illustrates what the page looks like when it is opened in a browser. Figure 1 If you click the page numbers then the browser history is not updated. Clicking the browser forward and backwards buttons won’t move you back and forth in browser history. Furthermore, the address displayed in the address bar does not change when you navigate to different pages. You cannot bookmark any page except for the first page. Adding Browser History The Back Button and Query (bbq) library enables you to add support for browser history and bookmarking to a jQuery application. The bbq library supports two important methods: jQuery.bbq.pushState(object) – Adds state to browser history. jQuery.bbq.getState(key) – Gets state from browser history. The bbq library also supports one important event: hashchange – This event is raised when the part of an address after the hash # is changed. The page in Listing 3 demonstrates how to use the bbq library to add support for browser navigation and bookmarking to an Ajax page. The value is returned as a string and the value is cast to an integer by calling the JavaScript parseInt() function. Next, the showMovies() method is called to display the page of movies. The $(window).trigger() method is called to raise the hashchange event so that the initial page of records will be displayed. When you click a page number, the selectPage() method is invoked. This method adds the current page index to the address by calling the following method: $.bbq.pushState({ pageIndex: pageIndex }); For example, if you click on page number 2 then page index 1 is saved to the URL. The URL looks like this: Notice that when you click on page 2 then the browser address is updated to look like: /Default.htm#pageIndex=1 If you click on page 3 then the browser address is updated to look like: /Default.htm#pageIndex=2 Because the browser address is updated when you navigate to a new page number, the browser backwards and forwards button will work to navigate you backwards and forwards through the page numbers. When you click page 2, and click the backwards button, you will navigate back to page 1. Furthermore, you can bookmark a particular page of records. For example, if you bookmark the URL /Default.htm#pageIndex=1 then you will get the second page of records whenever you open the bookmark. Summary You should not avoid building Ajax applications because of worries concerning browser history or bookmarks. By taking advantage of a JavaScript library such as the bbq library, you can make your Ajax applications behave in exactly the same way as a normal web application.

  • Extending Database-as-a-Service to Provision Databases with Application Data

    Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c Database as a Service (DBaaS) empowers Self Service/SSA Users to rapidly spawn databases on demand in cloud. The configuration and structure of provisioned databases depends on respective service template selected by Self Service user while requesting for database. In EM12c, the DBaaS Self Service/SSA Administrator has the option of hosting various service templates in service catalog and based on underlying DBCA templates.Many times provisioned databases require production scale data either for UAT, testing or development purpose and managing DBCA templates with data can be unwieldy. So, we need to populate the database using post deployment script option and without any additional work for the SSA Users. The SSA Administrator can automate this task in few easy steps. For details on how to setup DBaaS Self Service Portal refer to the DBaaS CookbookIn this article, I will list steps required to enable EM 12c DBaaS to provision databases with application data in two distinct ways using: 1) Data pump 2) Transportable tablespaces (TTS). The steps listed below are just examples of how to extend EM 12c DBaaS and you can even have your own method plugged in part of post deployment script option. In “Additional Configuration Options” step of Customize “Create Database Deployment Procedure” flow, provide the name of the SQL script in the Custom Script section and lock the input (shown in Fig. 3). Continue saving the deployment procedure. Figure-3: Using Custom script option for calling Import SQL Now, an SSA user can login to Self Service Portal and use the flow to provision a database that will also  populate the data using the post deployment step. Using Transportable tablespaces to populate databases Copy of all user/application tablespaces will enable this method of populating databases. These are the required steps to extend DBaaS using transportable tablespaces: Production DBA needs to create a backup of tablespaces. Datafiles may need conversion [such as from Big Endian to Little Endian or vice versa] based on the platform of production and destination where DBaaS created the test database. Here is sample backup script shows how to find out if any conversion is required, describes the steps required to convert datafiles and backup tablespace. SSA Administrator should copy the database (tablespaces) backup datafiles and export dumps to the backup location accessible from the hosts participating in the database zone(s). Create a post deployment SQL script and this script can either be uploaded into the software library by SSA Administrator or made available on a shared location accessible from servers where databases are likely to be provisioned. Here is sample post deployment SQL script using transportable tablespaces. Using DBCA, create a template for the production database – all the init.ora parameters should be included. NOTE: DO NOT choose to bring tablespace data into this template as they will be created SSA Administrator should customize “Create Database Deployment Procedure” and provide DBCA template created in the previous step. In the “Additional Configuration Options” step of the flow, provide the name of the SQL script in the Custom Script section and lock the input. Continue saving the deployment procedure. Now, an SSA user can login to Self Service Portal and use the flow to provision a database that will also populate the data using the post deployment step.   • How is external memory, internal memory, and cache organized?

    Consider a system as follows:= A hardware board having say ARM Cortex-A8 and Neon Vector coprocessor, and Embedded Linux OS running on Cortex-A8. On this environment, if there is some application - say, a video decoder is executing - then: How is it decided that which buffers would be in external memory, which ones would be allocated in internal SRAM, etc. When one says calloc/malloc on such system/code, the pointer returned is from which memory: internal or external? Can a user make buffers to be allocated to the memories of his choice (internal/external)? In ARM architectures, there is another memory called as Tightly coupled memory (TCM). What is that and how can user enable and use it? Can I declare buffers in this memory? Do I need to see the memory map (if any) of the hardware board to understand about all these different physical memories present in a typical hardware board? How much of a role does the OS play in distinguishing these different memories? Sorry for multiple questions, but i think they all are interlinked.

  • What happens to a SIGINT (^C) when sent to a perl script containing children?

    I have a Perl script that forks. Each fork runs an external program, parses the output, and converts the output to a Storable file. The Storable files are then read in by the parent and the total data from each of the children are analyzed before proceeding onto a repeat of the previous fork or else the parent stops. What exactly happens when I issue a ^C while some of the children are still running the external program? The parent perl script was called in the foreground and, I presume, remained in the foreground despite the forking. Is the SIGINT passed to all children, that is, the parent, the parent's children, and the external program called by the children??

  • Best way for an external (remote) graphics designer to style ASP.NET MVC 4 app?

    My customer has his own graphics designer he wants to use to style his web application we're building in ASP.NET MVC 4. Our solution is in Bitbucket, but if he can't run it what choices do we have? I doubt he uses Visual Studio 2012. One idea is for us to publish to our solution to a file system, send it to him, have him create a local IIS website on his machine (assuming he isn't using a Mac). Mocking data or pointing to a test SQL in Azure isn't a problem. Then he can make changes to .css and .cshtml files. Will this even work? The point is that he needs to be able to test his changes. I know he can modify the views and just check-in. But he needs to deliver a working design. So it seems inefficient. The graphics designer will have access to our test site so he can see how it works, what data we have and fields. Another idea is for him to build a static mock site using just HTML/CSS. Later I'd integrate his styles into customer's solution, split his html into partial views which we use and add Razor syntax. Again, we'd like to leverage graphics designer for all of this. Is there a best practice documented around this subject? How do other teams deal with this situation?

    At the last MIX conference, Netflix announced that they are exposing their catalog of movie information using the OData protocol. This is great news! This means that you can take advantage of all of the advanced OData querying features against a live database of Netflix movies. In this blog entry, I’ll demonstrate how you can use Netflix, jQuery, JSONP, and OData to create a simple movie lookup form. The form enables you to enter a movie title, or part of a movie title, and display a list of matching movies. For example, Figure 1 illustrates the movies displayed when you enter the value robot into the lookup form.   Using the Netflix OData Catalog API You can learn about the Netflix OData Catalog API at the following website: http://developer.netflix.com/docs/oData_Catalog The nice thing about this website is that it provides plenty of samples. It also has a good general reference for OData. For example, the website includes a list of OData filter operators and functions. The Netflix Catalog API exposes 4 top-level resources: Titles – A database of Movie information including interesting movie properties such as synopsis, BoxArt, and Cast. People – A database of people information including interesting information such as Awards, TitlesDirected, and TitlesActedIn. Languages – Enables you to get title information in different languages. Genres – Enables you to get title information for specific movie genres. OData is REST based. This means that you can perform queries by putting together the right URL. For example, if you want to get a list of the movies that were released after 2010 and that had an average rating greater than 4 then you can enter the following URL in the address bar of your browser: http://odata.netflix.com/Catalog/Titles?$filter=ReleaseYear gt 2010&AverageRating gt 4 Entering this URL returns the movies in Figure 2.     Just successfully installed and ran Windows 8's Windows to Go on a USB external hard drive. However, after shutting down and removing the USB hard disk, whey I to start my laptop (with only Windows 7 installed), but it doesn't boot and trying to repair it doesn't work. It seems that Windows 8 had corrupted the partition table on the laptop's hard drive, causing Windows 7 to fail to boot. How do I fix that and avoid future problems of the same type?

  • Powershell script to delete sub folders and files if creation date is >7 days but maintain parent folders of sub folders and files <7 days old

    I'm currently using the Powershell script below to delete all files directories and sub directories of "$dump_path" that are seven days or older based upon the creation date and not modified date. The problem with this script is this: If folder "A" is seven (or more) days old it will be deleted even if its sub folders and files are less then seven days old. What I would like this script to do is this: Delete all files from the root and in all sub folders of "$dump_path" that are seven or more days old but maintain the parent folder(s) of files and folders that are less than seven days old even if that means the parent folders are more than seven days old. If all subfolders and files are seven days or older than the parent folder then the parent can be deleted. Slightly obscure problem I know, but the intention is to have a 7 day retention period of all data in a 'sandbox' location of our shared areas. Also, an added bonus if it could generate a log of what it deletes and e-mails it out post deletion. Thank you for reading and I hope that all makes sense!   • Why would the SQL 2008 "Generate scripts..." utility generate an invalid SQL script?

    I have a SQL2008 database that needs to be restored to a SQL2005 instance. I have gone through the "Generate scripts..." wizard, set it for SQL2005 compatibility, and generated a 62MB SQL script. When I run it on the SQL2005 instance, it throws all kinds of errors, and some of them are really strange in that they describe an invalid database. FK constraints are wrong. It's trying to create FKs on columns that don't exist. It's trying insert records with duplicate key errors. It's trying to create the same objects twice. Any idea how this could happen? This SQL script was generated by SQL Server Management Studio just minutes before I tried to restore it, and was not modified. Why would this generate an invalid SQL file? Doesn't it just describe the SQL2008 database, which is presumably valid since we're using it? In particular, the duplicate key insertion errors mystify me. If there's a key constraint in the SQL script, then there must be the same thing in the SQL2008 table. So how could we get rows in there that violate that key constraint?

    I've got an server application that uses Winhttp to fetch information from an external source. Occasionally, I'll need to troubleshoot connectivity issues and I'd like an easy way to test connections through winHTTP (on the off-chance that there's something that is specifically impeding winHTTP and not other unrelated connectivity commands like telnet). Does IE use WinHTTP? If not, are there any tools (preferably already integrated into Windows) that I can use? Occasionally I'll use IE but I'm not sure if that's quite the same.

    im building a pretty large website that will have many pages and folders. I have 1 stylesheet. How do I add the style sheet to "ALL" of these folders? I didnt have this problem before I started to put the pages in SEPERATE folders. Now that each page has its own folder it no longer reads my stylesheet unless its in the SAME folder Example, lets say I have a folder of pets, another of cars, and another of planes. I have to put my stylesheet in EACH and everyone of these folders so that I can see my site. How can I do it so that I do NOT have to put a stylesheet in each and every folder? In other words how can I get my stylesheets on the same page as my folders without having them in that folder? How can I get them to communicate while being in a different folder?

    Trying to get casperjs running on Ubuntu 12.04. But when I run it I get "No such file". I can fix it by changing the first line of the casperjs python file from: #!/usr/bin/env python to: #!/usr/bin/python Result: $ casperjs --version 1.1.0-DEV I managed to fix it, but I'm wondering why it didn't work with #!/usr/bin/env python, since that seems to be a normal interpreter line. Do I have something configured wrong?   • GitHub: Are there external tools for managing issues list vs. project backlog

    Recently I posted one of my the projects1 on GitHub and as I was exploring capabilities of the site, I noticed they have a rather decent issue tracking section. I want to use that section as a) other people can report bugs if they'd like and b) other people can see which bugs I'm aware of. However, as others have noted, issues list cannot be prioritized in order to create a project backlog. For now my backlog has been a text file, but I'd like to be able to have it integrated so the same information isn't maintained in different places. Having a fully ordered list, which is something we also practice at work, has been very useful as I can open one file, start with line 1 and fire off 2 or 3 items in one sitting without having to go back to a full issues/stories bucket. GitHub doesn't offer this. What GitHub does offer is a very nice and clean API so issues can easily be exported into anything else. I've searched to see if there are other websites (like Trello) that integrate with GitHub issues, but did not find anything. Does anyone know of such a product, service or offline tool? Those that use GitHub, what is your experience in managing backlog? I kinda hate the idea of manually managing two disconnected lists like some people seem to be doing with Wiki project pages. 1 - are shameless plugs allowed no this site? Searched but didn't find a definite answer. If it's bad practice, STOP and don't read further As a developer I got sick and tired of navigating to same set of folders 30 times a day, so I wrote a little, auto-collapsible utility that gets stuck to the desktop and allows easy access to the folders you constantly use.

  • How can I save state from script in a multithreaded engine?

    We are building a multithreaded game engine and we've encountered some problems as described below. The engine have 3 threads in total: script, render, and audio. Each frame, we update these 3 threads simultaneously. As these threads updating themselves, they produce some tasks and put them into a public storage area. As all the threads finish their update, each thread go and copy the tasks for themselves one by one. After all the threads finish their task copying, we make the threads process those tasks and update these threads simultaneously as described before. So this is the general idea of the task schedule part of our engine. Ok, well, all the task schedule part work well, but here's the problem: For the simplest, I'll take Camera as an example: local oldPos = camera:getPosition() -- ( 0, 0, 0 ) camera:setPosition( 1, 1, 1 ) -- Won't work now, cuz the render thread will process the task at the beginning of the next frame local newPos = camera:getPosition() -- Still ( 0, 0, 0 ) So that's the problem: If you intend to change a property of an object in another thread, you have to wait until that thread process this property-changing message. As a result, what you get from the object is still the information in the last frame. So, is there a way to solve this problem? Or are we build the task schedule part in a wrong way?   • How to run a local and external website on same computer with 2 NIC's, 2 Routers and 3 seperate networks?

    Hello and hopefully I can get some answers to my question, though I think I'm making it more complicated for myself than it has to be. My business is a used auto dealership, and I'm in the process of connecting it to the world - via ethernet from the business server [running Xubuntu] to the ISP's ethernet router/modem, so that I can host our own website (no more than 5-10 people probably visiting at any time - mainly paying their bill), as well as set up a web based internal-intranet site - via DD-WRT Router on the 2nd NIC on the business server - that'll be accessed over Wifi from employees personal devices. On the other end of this is trying to offer free wifi to customers that is completely seperate of the 2 mentioned above networks. Quick Rundown: 1. Web Site for Customers to access. I'm going to use no-ip.org for DNS for the moment being, so I'll have a site that customers can access from anywhere in the world at "mybiz.no-ip.org". This will be forwarded to NIC #1 on the server, possibly at an address like "108.69.." as its being provided an IP from the ISP's modem/router, that is from Time Warner, and they allow NO! configuration options. Web Site for employees to access. I'm trying not to use the server too much as a desktop, only for critical situations, so having a backend thats seperate from the front-facing website is critical. This will be the DD-WRT router hardwired into NIC #2 on the server. This WiFi will be password accessible. Public WiFi for customers. The DD-WRT can seperate networks if I'm correct, I just can't seem to understand how to seperate the 2 and still have internet access on both. I've done it before, but the "Public" wifi (with no password set to connect) kept dropping the connection like a problem was happening that I couldn't figure out. So if I could do a little drawing, this is how it would/should possibly look.
