  • Setting UITableViewCell height is expensive

    - by Sheehan Alam
I am doing a comparison in - (CGFloat)tableView:(UITableView *)tblView heightForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath It seems like performance of my app really slows down when I check if a cell.detailTextLabel.text isEqualTo:@"None"; What is a better way of doing the comparison and setting the cell height?

I try with the code below but when i append a object to array, these array isn't initialized. Can you help me? thanks and sorry for my english. #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> @interface AccelerometroViewController : UIViewController <UIAccelerometerDelegate, UITextFieldDelegate, UIAlertViewDelegate>{ //..... • how to dynamically recolor a CGGradientRef

    - by saintmac
    I have three CGGradientRef's that I need to be able to dynamically recolor. When I Initialise the CGGradientRef's the first time I get the expected result, but every time I attempt to change the colors nothing happens. Why? gradient is an instance variable ins a subclass of CALayer: @interface GradientLayer : CALayer { CGGradientRef gradient; //other stuff } @end Code: if (gradient != NULL) { CGGradientRelease(gradient); gradient = NULL; } RGBA color[360]; //set up array CGColorSpaceRef rgb = CGColorSpaceCreateDeviceRGB(); gradient = CGGradientCreateWithColorComponents ( rgb, color, NULL, sizeof (color) / sizeof (color[0]) ); CGColorSpaceRelease(rgb); [self setNeedsDisplay];

  • what's called after returning from presentModalViewController / dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:

    - by Reinhard
to show a modal uiview out of my mainView I use: [self presentModalViewController:myController animated:YES]; and in MyController I close that view with: [self dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:YES]; But how can I know in the mainView that the modal was finished (to redraw my table)? Currently I set a local variable to YES in my mainView after starting the modal view an react on viewWillAppear: [self presentModalViewController:myController animated:YES]; _reloadTableData = YES; -(void)viewWillAppear:(BOOL)animated { [super viewWillAppear:animated]; if (_reloadTableData) { _reloadTableData = NO; [_tableView reloadData]; } } Is there a better way to do so ?

  • UIViewController: setToolbarItems vs navigationItem

    - by Paul Sanwald
my application has a UIViewController subclass which is being managed by a UINavigationController. In the viewDidLoad of my UIViewController subclass, I was attempting to add a UIBarButtonItem to the toolbar like this: settingsButton = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithTitle:@"Settings" style:UIBarButtonItemStylePlain target:self action:@selector(viewSettings:)]; [self setToolbarItems:[NSArray arrayWithObject:settingsButton]]; this wasn't working out for me, so after some googling around, I tried this: [[self navigationItem] setRightBarButtonItem:settingsButton]; which worked out fine. from reading the UIViewController documentation, I'm still confused about why setToolbarItems wasn't working. I verified in the debugger that the button was in the toolbarItems array in the viewDidAppear method. the button itself just wasn't appearing on my toolbar. so, my question is, why didn't setToolbarItems work for me in the first code snippet? I don't have the toolbar configured in my xib for this view controller at all, if that makes a difference.

  • Not found in protocol

    - by Alex
I've subclassed MKAnnotation so that i can assign objects to annotations and then assign this object to a view controller like so: - (void)mapView:(MKMapView *)mapView annotationView:(MKAnnotationView *)view calloutAccessoryControlTapped:(UIControl *)control { PlaceDetailView *detailView = [[PlaceDetailView alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewStyleGrouped]; detailView.place = [view.annotation place]; [self.navigationController pushViewController:detailView animated:YES]; [detailView release]; } This is working great but i'm having the following issues: If i try and access the place getter method like so view.annotation.place i recieve an error: Accessing unknown place getter method If i acces the place getter method like so [view.annotation place] i receive a warning: place not found in protocol From my understanding this is because the place object is not defined in the MKAnnotation protocol, although i'm aware of this i'm not sure how to tell the complier that place does exist and it's not calling it blind.

  • Prevent Erroneous Property Assignment

    - by Gordon
Porting android applications to iphone applications always gives me the following pattern that I accidentally create: - (void) myFunc:(id)prop { self.property = property; } Which instead should be: - (void) myFunc:(id)prop { self.property = prop; } This always causes my program to quietly break because property gets reset to its existing value rather than being set to the new value, 'prop'. I cannot name the parameter 'prop' to 'property' since the compile complains that the parameter masks the instance variables visibility. Is there a good way to avoid this situation? There are no compiler warnings. Is there a way to make xcode prevent this? I cannot see very many situations where you would set a property to the value of its underlying instance variable (maybe to trigger a KVO binding?), but I don't see myself doing that in majority of cases. I understand the above code is synthetic and should be done with @synthesize, but I am just using it as a simplified example to illustrate my point.

  • Can't record or play with a simple recorder?

    - by user1280535
I have 2 classes, a record and a player. In my main scene, I create an instance of them and play and record. But, as I see, it only records and somehow does not play (the file is not there!) Here is the code for both : -(void)record { NSArray *dirPaths; NSString *docsDir; NSString *sound= @"sound0.caf" ; dirPaths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES) ; docsDir = [dirPaths objectAtIndex:0]; NSString *soundFilePath = [docsDir stringByAppendingPathComponent:sound]; NSURL *soundFileURL = [NSURL fileURLWithPath:soundFilePath]; NSDictionary *settings = [NSDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys: [NSNumber numberWithFloat: 44100.0], AVSampleRateKey, [NSNumber numberWithInt: kAudioFormatAppleLossless], AVFormatIDKey, [NSNumber numberWithInt: 1], AVNumberOfChannelsKey, [NSNumber numberWithInt: AVAudioQualityMax], AVEncoderAudioQualityKey, nil]; NSError *error; myRecorder = [[AVAudioRecorder alloc] initWithURL:soundFileURL settings:settings error:&error]; if (myRecorder) { NSLog(@"rec"); [myRecorder prepareToRecord]; myRecorder.meteringEnabled = YES; [myRecorder record]; } else NSLog( @"error" ); } I can see the log of rec. -(void)play { NSArray *dirPaths; NSString *docsDir; dirPaths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES); docsDir = [dirPaths objectAtIndex:0]; NSString *soundFilePath1 = @"sound0.caf" ; NSURL *soundFileURL = [NSURL fileURLWithPath:soundFilePath1]; BOOL isMyFileThere = [[NSFileManager defaultManager] fileExistsAtPath:soundFilePath1]; if(isMyFileThere) { NSLog(@"PLAY"); avPlayer1 = [[AVAudioPlayer alloc] initWithContentsOfURL:soundFileURL error:NULL]; avPlayer1.volume = 8.0; avPlayer1.delegate = self; [avPlayer1 play]; } } I DONT SEE THE LOG OF PLAY ! I call them both with: recInst=[recorder alloc]; //to rec [recInst record]; plyInst=[player alloc]; //play [plyInst play]; and to stop the recorder: - (void)stopRecorder { NSLog(@"stopRecordings"); [myRecorder stop]; //[myRecorder release]; } What's wrong here? Thanks.

  • Manage more Images to move in View

    - by David Pollak
    hi everyone, I'm creating an app which has more UIImageView on a View, they should move normally from a side to the other. I have an issue: after entering the second image, the two UIImageView start to behave crazy (!) because they don' move freely, but they are like restricted in two different areas not touching each other even if I said different things the first thing that I want to do, is to let them move normally; this is the code I am using: `- (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; pos = CGPointMake(14.0, 7.0); [NSTimer scheduledTimerWithTimeInterval:0.05 target:self selector:@selector(onTimer) userInfo:nil repeats:YES]; }` - (void) onTimer { pallone.center = CGPointMake(pallone.center.x+pos.x, pallone.center.y+pos.y); if(pallone.center.x > 320 || pallone.center.x < 0) pos.x = -pos.x; if(pallone.center.y > 480 || pallone.center.y < 0) pos.y = -pos.y; } and for the other image that has to enter after: - (IBAction)spara{ cos = CGPointMake(8.0, 4.0); [NSTimer scheduledTimerWithTimeInterval:0.05 target:self selector:@selector(inTimer) userInfo:nil repeats:YES]; } - (void)inTimer{ bomba.center = CGPointMake(bomba.center.x+pos.x, bomba.center.y+pos.y); if(bomba.center.x > 50 || bomba.center.x < 0) pos.x = -pos.x; if(bomba.center.y > 480 || bomba.center.y < 0) pos.y = -pos.y; } what should I change ? and if I'd like the images to move only in one way (y) ? how do I do this ? I know, I'm a newbie thanks in advance

  • iPad --- managedObject problem when [self.tableViewSection reloadData]

    - by user345777
Hi , I am creating a news aggregator application that fetches a xml feed every 4 minutes. After the xml is loaded, I clear everything by deleting all the objects in the database, then save the new objects back into the database. I then call [self.tableViewSection reloadData]; to reload the tableView. Thats when I get a problem. As soon as the code gets to a section where i access the new [[managedObject valueForKey:@"event_text"] description] content it fails with a : * Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSObjectInaccessibleException', reason: 'CoreData could not fulfill a fault for '0x4b3f6a0 '' Now from the flow I described on top, it seems odd to me that the tableView is populated properly the next time i launch the application, with the "new" data I fetched in the previous session. So its not that data thats corrupt , but seems to me something goes wrong when I refetch the managedObject after saving new data. Also keep in mind thats this app runs fine on the iPhone, its the iPad thats is giving me this problem.

  • UIWebView load remote html page with local images and javascript files

    - by BlueNile
Im creating application that will display remote page on the UIWebView using local images and javascript/css files for faster loading. I want to avoid using cache because for this to work it must first load all the content. I was searching online for possible solution. Here is what I have: NSURLRequest *urlrequest = [ [NSURLRequest alloc] initWithURL: [NSURL URLWithString:urlString] ]; NSData *returnData = [ NSURLConnection sendSynchronousRequest:urlrequest returningResponse: nil error: nil ]; NSString *HTMLData = [[NSString alloc] initWithData:returnData encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]; NSString *resourcePath = [[NSBundle mainBundle] resourcePath]; resourcePath = [resourcePath stringByReplacingOccurrencesOfString:@"/" withString:@"//"]; resourcePath = [resourcePath stringByReplacingOccurrencesOfString:@" " withString:@"%20"]; [webView loadHTMLString:HTMLData baseURL: [NSURL URLWithString: [NSString stringWithFormat:@"file:/%@//",resourcePath] ]]; urlString is defined and I moved files to the app bundle. Code works as I can see the remote page but no images nor javascript files are present.

  • UINavigationController shows blank view

    - by Adam8797
I am making a simple navigation based application that drills down one level and show a new xib file each time. When I drill down one level my screen shows up blank. I still have the navigation controller at the top with a back button but my view dosent load. Here is my code - (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { circle_area *subViewOneController = [[circle_area alloc] init]; UIViewController *tvc = subViewOneController; if (indexPath.row == 0 && indexPath.section == 0) { [[self navigationController] pushViewController:tvc animated:YES]; } } like I said this returns a blank screen.

  • Looping the layout that was set up in Interface Builder

    - by Slavenko
I just need for someone to point me in the right direction of how I should be doing things. I wanted to make an iOS news like app that would have interface resembling Windows Phone. Large and small image tiles that represent one news item each. Now I was thinking to create some basic layout in storyboard, that would consist out of, for example, a title, and a 3 different sized tiles/images (the gray part on the attached image). Now, I would be getting the data as a JSON array that has holds different news categories so I was wondering if somehow the set up layout could be reused in a for loop since the layout will only repeat itself (the red part on the attached image) and oly the data would be different. Can this be done, should I even try doing something like this, or should I try to create an entire layout programmatically? I wouldn't mind doing it programatically, it's just that I don't have much experience in creating layouts that way, and wanted to make sure that I don't do something that I might regret later. Thank you for any help and advice.

  • Access static Method in GDB

    - by Besi
I recently discovered the GDB in Xcode which makes up for some functionality which IMHO seems to be lacking in Xcode. So I can do the following in GDB: (gdb) po [LoginManager sharedSession].loginToken 20D52FE9-3573-437E-9A65-846572B63726 However, I have another Service class, which is currently not loaded so I get the following error: (gdb) po [SessionService displaySessionInfoForToken:@"XXX"] No symbol "SessionService" in current context. I don't understand why the LoginManager can be loaded but not the SessionService.

  • Cocoa : Once and for all, how to really reset the standardUserDefaults

    - by Korion
I tried using -resetStandardUserDefaults, I tried removing the plist file, none of those really do what I need. I want to reset my preferences completely, as if the app re-installed. Is there a good solution to this? I tried : NSString *appDomain = [[NSBundle mainBundle] bundleIdentifier]; [[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] removePersistentDomainForName:appDomain]; But Xcode complains. Apparently, it doesn't like that the plist file has disappeared.

  • Adding a Image to UITable View Cell

    - by Graeme
Hi, I have a table in which I want a dynamic image to load in at the left-hand side. The table needs to use an IF statement to select the appropriate image from the "Resources" folder, and needs to be based upon [dog types]. The [dog types] is extracted from an RSS feed, and so the image in the table cell needs to match the each cell's [dog types] tag. I suspect I need to use - (UIImage *)imageForTypes:(NSString *)types { to do such a thing. Thanks.

  • Help adding a backgroundView to UITableViewCell

    - by Alex
I'm getting really desperate trying to add a UIImageView to UITableViewCell.backgroundView. All my efforts have resulted in this crappy rendering: It looks like the cell's label's white background is sitting on top of cell's background and covering portions of it. I tried setting the label's background color to clear, or some other color and it does not have any event. It is always white. The reason I know it's the text label's background causing this white area is that if I don't do [cell setText:@"Cell text here"]; the white area is gone and I see just the cell's background image. Here's the code that I'm using. The table view is added in the .xib file and UITableView is added to UIViewController: - (NSInteger)numberOfSectionsInTableView:(UITableView *)tableView { return 1; } - (NSInteger)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView numberOfRowsInSection:(NSInteger)section { return [myCollection.items count]; } - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { NSUInteger rowIndex = indexPath.row; static NSString *CellIdentifier = @"Cell"; UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier]; if (cell == nil) { cell = [[[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault reuseIdentifier:CellIdentifier] autorelease]; cell.backgroundView = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:[UIImage imageNamed:@"darkCellBackground.png"]]; cell.selectedBackgroundView = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:[UIImage imageNamed:@"darkCellBackground.png"]]; } [cell setText:@"Cell text here"]; return cell; } - (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { // Navigation logic may go here. Create and push another view controller. // AnotherViewController *anotherViewController = [[AnotherViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"AnotherView" bundle:nil]; // [self.navigationController pushViewController:anotherViewController]; // [anotherViewController release]; [tableView deselectRowAtIndexPath:indexPath animated:YES]; } - (BOOL)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView canEditRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { return NO; } I'm sure I'm doing something wrong but cant quite figure out what.

  • ios - how do I concatinate strings to create a url?

    - by GeekedOut
I am trying to make a url by first collecting the parameters, and then in one statement creating the actual url. Here is what I am trying to do: NSString *urlString = @"http://www.some_login_url.com?email=%@&password=%@"; NSString *email = self.email.text; NSString *password = self.password.text; NSString *url_to_send = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@%@", urlString , email , password]; So what I wanted to do was replace the @ symbols with the values in the variables, but instead the second variable just got appended to the end of the string. How would I change the last line so I could put the right parameters in their correct spots? Thanks!!

  • UILabel with custom font displays *wrong* custom font

    - by winsmith
I'm using this method to embed custom fonts in my iPhone app. The embedding works: When I run the following code, the fonts are listed. (Currently, I'm embedding all family members of Myriad Pro in OTF format) for( NSString *familyName in [UIFont familyNames] ){ for( NSString *fntName in [UIFont fontNamesForFamilyName:familyName] ){ NSLog(@"%@", fntName); }} When I try to set the font of a label to MyriadPro or MyriadPro-Bold, this works just as expected. However, when I set the font to MyriadPro-BoldCond, the label is still set in MyriadPro-Bold instead of the condensed version. (The font names are correct, I checked.) My Code: [recommendationLabel setFont:[UIFont fontWithName:@"MyriadPro-BoldCond" size:140]]; recommendationLabel.adjustsFontSizeToFitWidth = YES; What's the deal?

  • How do I run modals windows from code with cocoa?

    - by Leandro
Hi,everybody I`m trying to run a window as modal directly from the code. My program starts and a main NSWindows is showed.A thread still running to see if the user has a valid distribution. if he doesn't I need to run a modal.I mean, I have no buttons clicked in the interface.I've designed a NSWindow on the interface builder for a password set, and I want to call it only when my validation is not successful. I have tested and realized that these methods which are responsible for modal windows running only work in a IBAction environment. //This doesn't work -(void) showPasswordWindow { [NSApp runModalForWindow:[self window]]; } //this works But its not useful for me =( - (IBAction) passwordWindowButton:(id)sender { [NSApp runModalForWindow:[self window]]; } Please, help this newbie =)
