• How does the VS XAML designer know what to auto-populate certain values with?

  <Button Name="MyButton" Content="Test" FontStyle="Italic" /> In the above XAML definition of a button, the FontStyle property is set to Italic. The designer is somehow able to populate a list for me to choose from when I hit the = sign. How is this achieved? Before you answer, consider that the FontStyle property is, appropriately enough, of type FontStyle (which is a struct). It's not an enumeration, which would be trivial for VS to list out at design time, so how are the valid list of options chosen to be displayed? There is also a completely separate FontStyles class which contains three static fields, Italic, Normal, and Oblique which just so happen to be the three items VS provides in the drop down list. Is there some mapping going on behind the scenes between the FontStyle struct and FontStyles class, because I've looked in many places in both the object browser and in .NET Reflector and couldn't determine anything from either. • MVC binding form data problem.

  I am using an object that matches all the fields in my form. I then use the default binding to populate the object in my action, like this; public ActionResult GetDivisionData(DivisionObj FormData) My DivisionObj initializes all it's values to string.empty in the constructor. The problem is that when the binder populates the model from the posted form data, any data that is not posted is set to null in the object, eventhough I initialized the object to contain empty strings. Is there a way to change this so that unposted data will be an empty string.

• How do you set a double value to a "non-value"

  I have two double data elements in an object. Sometimes they are set with a proper value and sometimes not. When the form field from which they values are received is not filled I want to set them to some value that tells me, during the rest of the code that the form fields were left empty. I can't set the values to null as that gives an error, is there some way I can make them 'Undefined'. PS. Not only am I not sure that this is possible, it might not also make sense. But if there is some best practice for such a situation I would be keen to hear it.

  Back in the ASP classic days when i needed to write out the name/value pairs of forms submitted by POST i thru this loop into the page: on error resume next for each x in Request.Form Response.AppendToLog x & "=" & Request(x) next It threw all the form fields and values into the log just as GETs are. Does IIS7 .net give me any better method? (this is for the dev/testing portion of the project i don't have any concern about the space or cycles used to accomplish this). thx

• Is there any way to use GUIDs in django?

  I have a couple of tables that are joined by GUIDs in SQL Server. Now, I've found a few custom fields to add support for GUIDs in django, but I tend to shy away from using code in blog posts if at all possible. I'm not going to do anything with the GUID other than join on it and maybe assign a GUID on new entries (although this is optional). Is there any way to allow this using django's built-in types? Like can I use some kind of char field or binary field and "trick" django into joining using it? If it's any help, I'm using django-pyodbc.

  Hi, I have a model Transaction for which I need to display the results of many calculations on many fields for a subset of transactions. I've seen 2 ways to do it, but am not sure which is the best. I'm after the one that will have the least impact in terms of performance when data set grows and number of concurrent users increases. data[:total_before] = Transaction.where(xxx).sum(:amount_before) data[:total_after] = Transaction.where(xxx).sum(:amount_after) ... or transactions = Transaction.where(xxx) data[:total_before]= transactions.inject(0) {|s, e| s + e.amount_before } data[:total_after]= transactions.inject(0) {|s, e| s + e.amount_after } ... • Is there a way to query if array field contains a certain value in Doctrine2?

  Starting out with Symfony2 + Doctrine. I have a table with User objects (fos_user), for which my schema contains a roles column of an 'array' type. Doctrine saves fields of this type by serializing them from php 'array' to 'longtext' (in mysql's case). So let's say I have the following users saved into DB: **User1**: array(ROLE_ADMIN, ROLE_CUSTOM1) **User2**: array(ROLE_ADMIN, ROLE_CUSTOM2) **User3**: array(ROLE_CUSTOM2) Now in my controller I want to select all users with ROLE_ADMIN set. Is there a way to write a DQL query which would directly return me User1 and User2? Or do I need to fetch all users to have Doctrine to unserialize roles column and then for each of them do in_array('ROLE_ADMIN', $user-getRoles())? I have searched the DQL part of the manual, but so far did not find anything similar to my needs...

• Android: how can i tell if the soft keyboard is showing or not?

  Heres the dilemma: I am showing a screen with 3 input fields and 2 buttons inside of a tab(there are 3 tabs total, and they are on the bottom of the screen). the 2 buttons are set to the bottom left and right of the screen, right above the tabs. when i click on an input field, the tabs and buttons are all pushed up on top of the keyboard. i desire to only push the buttons up, and leave the tabs where they originally are, on the bottom. i am thinking of setting the visibility of the tabs to GONE once i determine that the soft keyboard is showing, and visibility to VISIBLE once the soft keyboard is gone. is there some kind of listener for the soft keyboard, or maybe the input field? maybe some tricky use of OnFocusChangeListener for the edit text? How can i determine whether the keyboard is visible or not?

  I am trying to count across 2 tables and I dont see whats wrong with my query yet I get a wrong result. User 2 does not exist in table_two, so the zero is correct. SELECT t1.creator_user_id, COUNT(t1.creator_user_id), COUNT(t2.user_id) FROM table_one AS t1 LEFT JOIN table_two AS t2 ON t2.user_id = t1.creator_user_id GROUP BY t1.creator_user_id, t2.user_id Actual result 1 192 192 2 9 0 Expected result 1 16 12 2 9 0 The result indicate a missing group by condition, but I already got both fields used. Where am I wrong ? Also, can I sum up all users that doesnt exist in table_two for t1 ? Like user 3 exists 21 times in t1, then the results would be: 1 16 12 (users with > 0 in t2 will need their own row) 2 30 0 (user 2=9 + user 3=21 => 30) Its okay for the user Id to be wrong for sum of t1 for all users with 0 in t2. If not possible, then I'll just do two queries.

I couldn’t figure out how to bind to a table at all. I have built the inline sql that would do this for me but it would destroy my shared pool (not using binds). So a General question how do I bind to complex/composite types using Nhibernate?

  In Sql Server I am using an XML type column to store a message. I do not want to store duplicate messages. I only will have a few messages per user. I am currently querying the table for these messages, converting the XML to string in my C# code. I then compare the strings with what I am about to insert. Unfortunately, Sql Server pretty-prints the data in the XML typed fields. What you store into the database is not necessarily exactly the same string as what you get back out later. It is functionally equivalent, but may have white space removed, etc. Is there an efficient way to compare an XML string that I am considering inserting with those that are already in the database? As an aside, if I detect a duplicate I need to delete the older message then insert the replacement.

  I'm looking for a way to do query auto-completion/suggestions in Lucene. I've Googled around a bit and played around a bit, but all of the examples I've seen seem to be setting up filters in Solr. We don't use Solr and aren't planning to move to using Solr in the near future, and Solr is obviously just wrapping around Lucene anyway, so I imagine there must be a way to do it! I've looked into using EdgeNGramFilter, and I realise that I'd have to run the filter on the index fields and get the tokens out and then compare them against the inputted Query... I'm just struggling to make the connection between the two into a bit of code, so help is much appreciated! To be clear on what I'm looking for (I realised I wasn't being overly clear, sorry) - I'm looking for a solution where when searching for a term, it'd return a list of suggested queries. When typing 'inter' into the search field, it'll come back with a list of suggested queries, such as 'internet', 'international', etc.

Does this sequence generator make use of the database's increasing numeric value generating capability or generates the number on his own? Q2. If JPA uses database auto increement feauture, then will it work with datastores that don't have auto increement feature? Q3. If JPA generate numeric value on his own, then how the JPA implementation knows which value to generate next? Does it consult with the database first to see what value was stored last so as to generate the value (last + 1). ====================================================================================== Q4.   We are working on clean-up and analysis of a lot of human-entered customer data. We need to decide programmatically whether 2 addresses (for example) are the same, even though the data was entered with slight variations. Right now we run each address through fairly simplistic string replacement (replacing avenue with ave, for example), concatenate the fields and compare the results. We are doing something similar with names. At the very least, it seems like our list of search-replace values should already exist somewhere. Or perhaps you can suggest a totally different and superior way to detect matches?

  Hi all, I have a set of data that contains garbled text fields because of encoding errors during many import/exports from one database to another. Most of the errors were caused by converting UTF-8 to ISO-8859-1. Strangely enough, the errors are not consistent: the word 'München' appears as 'München' in some place and as 'MÃœnchen'. Is there a trick in SQL server to correct this kind of crap? The first thing that I can think of is to exploit the COLLATE clause, so that ü is interpreted as ü, but I don't exactly know how. If it isn't possible to make it in the DB level, do you know any tool that helps for a bulk correction? (no manual find/replace tool, but a tool that guesses the garbled text somehow and correct them)

  I'm dealing with blobs of up to - I estimate - about 100 kilo bytes in size. The data is compressed already. Storage engine: InnoDB on MySQL 5.1 Frontend: PHP (Symfony with Propel ORM) Some questions: I've read somewhere that it's not good to update blobs, because it leads to reallocation, fragmentation, and thus bad performance. Is that true? Any reference on this? Initially the blobs get constructed by appending data chunks. Each chunk is up to 16 kilo bytes in size. Is it more efficient to use a separate chunk table instead, for example with fields as below? parent_id, position, chunk Then, to get the entire blob, one would do something like: SELECT GROUP_CONCAT(chunk ORDER BY position) FROM chunks WHERE parent_id = 187 The result would be used in a PHP script. Is there any difference between the types of blobs, aside from the size needed for meta data, which should be negligible.

  hello everyone i have a complex query to be written but cannot figure it out here are my tables Sales --one row for each sale made in the system SaleProducts --one row for each line in the invoice (similar to OrderDetails in NW) Deals --a list of possible deals/offers that a sale may be entitled to DealProducts --a list of quantities of products that must be purchased in order to get a deal now im trying to make a query which will tell me for each sale which deals he may get the relevant fields are: Sales: SaleID (PK) SaleProducts: SaleID (FK), ProductID (FK) Deals: DealID (PK) DealProducts: DealID(FK), ProductID(FK), Mandatories (int) for required qty i believe that i should be able to use some sort of cross join or outer join, but it aint working here is one sample (of about 30 things i tried) SELECT DealProducts.DealID, DealProducts.ProductID, DealProducts.Mandatories, viwSaleProductCount.SaleID, viwSaleProductCount.ProductCount FROM DealProducts LEFT OUTER JOIN viwSaleProductCount ON DealProducts.ProductID = viwSaleProductCount.ProductID GROUP BY DealProducts.DealID, DealProducts.ProductID, DealProducts.Mandatories, viwSaleProductCount.SaleID, viwSaleProductCount.ProductCount the problem is that it doesnt show any product deals that r not fullfiled (probably because of the productid join). i need that also sales that dont have the requiremnets show up, then i can filter out any saleid that exists in this query "where AmountBought thank you for your help
