• T-SQL Operations on a Calculated Date Field

  Can I do WHERE operations on a calculated date field? I have a lookup field, which has been written badly in SQL and unfortunately I can't change it. But basically it stores dates as characters such as "July-2010" or "June-2009" (along with other non date data). I want to extract the dates first (which I did using a LIKE opertor) and then extract data based on a date range. SELECT BusinessUnit, Lookup, ReleaseDate FROM ( SELECT TOP 10 LookupColumn As Lookup, BU as BusinessUnit, CONVERT(DATETIME, REPLACE(LookupColumn,'-',' ')) as ReleaseDate FROM [dbo].[LookupTable] WHERE LookupColumn LIKE N'%-2010' ) MyTable ORDER BY ReleaseDate WHERE ReleaseDate = '2010-02-01' I'm having issues with WHERE operator. I would assume creating a subquery to encapsulate the calculated field would allow me to do operations with it such as WHERE but maybe I'm wrong. Bottom line is it possible to do operations on calculated fields?

  Hi Maybe it's simple question, but it's my first time with EF + win app so ... I'm building win app with EF by adding edmx as data source then drag and drop the tables to get navigator and binding source .. when I press the add button in the navigator it allows me to enter new data but when I save the context I get NULL data for all fields except the auto increment field ( the ID field ).... What should I do to save many entries ...? DO I have to loop over all the entities in the binding source and add them to the context ?? Thanx in advance Update: I forgot to say that when i use data grid view it adds the items correctly but with "Details" it didn't ..

  Hi everyone, I have two classes (class1 and class2) that just store data, no methods. I have a third class that has an instance variable that, depending on some user input, will be set to one of the two classes. So, in the third class I declare the variable generically as NSObject *aClass; and during runtime set it to whatever it should be. aClass = [[Class1 alloc] init]; // or aClass = [[Class2 alloc] init]; However, when I try to access fields from aClass NSString *str = aClass.field1; It gives me the error: request for member 'field1' in something not a structure or a union. Field1 is declared in both class1 and class2. When I try to cast aClass aClass = (Class1 *) aClass; it gives the same error. What am I doing wrong, is there a better way to do this?

  In my database I have a form for searching products (fields : id, name, manufacturer_id[set to display manufacturer's name], category_id, price). I would like to have the ability of adding manufacturers through this form. So I've created vba script but it does not work. Still when I enter new name it gives me prompt to "Select element from the list". What am I doing wrong ? • How would I create a VIM or Vi command to delete all text after a certain character for every line i

  Scenario: I have a text file that has pipe (as in the "|" character) delimited data. Each field of data in the pipe delimited fields can be of variable length, so counting characters won't work (or using some sort of substring function... if that even exists in VIM). Is it possible, using VIM / Vi to delete all data from the second pipe to the end of the line for the entire file? There are approx 150,000 lines, so doing this manually would only be appealing to a masochist... e.g. Change the following lines from: 1111|random sized text 12345|more random data la la la|1111|abcde 2222|random sized text abcdefghijk|la la la la|2222|defgh 3333|random sized text|more random data|33333|ijklmnop to: 1111|random sized text 12345 2222|random sized text abcdefghijk 3333|random sized text I'm sure this can be done somehow... I hope. TIA UPDATE: I should have mentioned that I'm running this on Windows XP, so I don't have access to some of the mentioned *nix commands (CUT is not recognized on Windows).

• Wrong intrepretation of some columns in ireport

  Hi, I got a strange problem. I am using iReport 3.7.1 tool to create some reports. The Query Editor has one query. It shows all the data types of the fields in that query exactly same as the data types shown when I execute it using SQLYOG editor. The problem is here: One field data type is mismatched. I don't know the reason. SQLYOG says it is INTEGER whereas iReport Query Editor says its a long value. BTW The value that assigned to that filed is zero. Can anyone help ? I want to zero-in on this issue.

  Problem I don't have a details row or anything. I have simply a body and I dragged on textboxes for labeling textfields from my dataset. The problem is when one of the fields has too much data for the current page, it "page-breaks" at the start of the field leaving the textbox (label for the field) behind on the previous page. What I've tried Put the data field and the textbox label a) inside a rectangle - didn't work b) inside a list and the list inside a rectangle - didn't work c) inside a list with keep together property set to TRUE or FALSE - didn't work Question How would I group the textbox and the textfield so that regardless of where the pagebreak happens it includes its label?

• Grails - Need to restrict fetched rows based on condition on join table

  Hi guys, I have these two domains Car and Driver which have many-to-many relationship. This association is defined in table tblCarsDrivers which has, not surprisingly, primary keys of both the tables BUT additionally also has a new boolean field deleted. Herein lies the problem. When I find/get query on domain Car, I am fetched all related drivers irrespective of their deleted status in tblCarsDrivers, which is expected. I need to put a clause/constraint to exclude the deleted drivers from the list of fetched records. PS: I tried using an association domain CarDriver in joinTable name but that seems not to work. Apparently it expects only table names, not maps. PPS: I know its unnatural to have any other fields besides the mapping keys in mapping table but this is how I got it and it cant be changed. • How to Return A File and a strongly Typed data at the same time?

  Hi I am using asp.net mvc 1.0 and I want to return a XML file but I also want to return a strongly typed data back so I can update some fields. Like the XML file will contain users who failed to be inserted into the database. So I want that to appear as a dialog save box what asp.net mvc return file() would do. However I also want to return on the page like values like how many users failed to be added, how many users where added, etc. So I want to use scafolding with the class file I want to pass it along. If this was a view I could pass it along as an object model but I don't see a parameter for that in File(). I also don't want to save the xml file onto the harddrive I want to do it through memory. So have a link that would display on the page to download the file and show the the data I want would not be desired.

• How can I catch a change event from an HTML text field when a user clicks on a link after editing?

  Our webapp has a form with fields and values that change depending on values entered. Each time there is a change event on one of the form elements, we use an expensive AJAX call to update other elements on the page. This works great for selects, radio buttons and checkboxes. The issue comes in when a user adds content to a text field, and then clicks a link without taking the focus from the text field. The browser moves to a new page, and the contents of the text field are never saved. Is there an easy way to code around this? The AJAX call is too expensive to call with each key press.   Hi all, I'm a very young software architect. Now I'm working in a very large and I have to lead a group of developers to rewrite all the mortgage system of the bank. I'm looking at database tables and I realize that there is no any data model, neither documentation. The worst part is that there are about 1000 tables in dev environment, and like 600 in production. I trust more the production environment, but anyway, what can I do? I mean, I can suicide me or something, but is there any good reverse engineering tool, so at least I could get the schema definition with the relations between tables and comments extracted from the fields? • Why input elements don't render the value passed in ASP.Net MVC?

  This post asks this question but doesn't really give an answer, so I thought I would ask the question differently. I have a page that renders a hidden value from the model: <%=Html.Hidden("myName", model.myValue) %> Since I am passing a value in the value parameter, you would think it would output that value, but it doesn't. The code for rendering input fields has the following: string attemptedValue = (string)htmlHelper.GetModelStateValue(name, typeof(string)); tagBuilder.MergeAttribute("value", attemptedValue ?? ((useViewData) ? htmlHelper.EvalString(name) : valueParameter), isExplicitValue); Basically, if the ModelState (which contains posted values) contains a value for the "name" passed, it will use that value instead of your passed value to the helper method. In my case, I updated the model and my updated value wasn't outputted. If I pass a value to a method, I expect that value to be rendered. Am I missing something in this design or is it just wrong?

• jQuery access each matched element from '.find' by an index

  Using jQuery's .find() method to return a set of elements, I am trying to access items in the returned set by their order in that set. For example, a table with two rows and in each row a select box and two text input fields, accessed with the following: $('table#tbl').find('tr.row').each(function(i) { }); To get the first element I would have thought I could use $('table#tbl').find('tr.row').each(function(i) { alert( $(this).find(':input').get(1).val() ); }); And variations of the above, but apparently this doesn't work. Could anyone suggest the correct method to access item x of n elements returned?

  Hi All Just hoping soemone can help me to write better code than I can come up with on my own. I am using the jquery validation plugin. I have some fields that are mandatory ONLY if certain options are chosen. The below code works fine. But the thing is, is that that my list of 'OR's is much longer than I've put here. and it needs to be applied not just to 'directorsName' but a whole long list of inputs, selects etc. My question is.. how can I wrap up the code contained inside the RETURN? (so I dont have to keep repeating my 'OR's. • What experience is the most valued in a programmer?

  I've been coding application level software for a while now. I've had some experience with internet (server/client based) applications, but that has been fairly scant. The field doesn't scare although I know that experience can be almost be measured in gold. I see myself as a highly qualified and experienced programmer, but I also see my short comings in these fields. Does this count against me (and others like me?) and would this cut anyone from obtaining the shortlist or are there other factors which bear more weight?

  I have a Bash script that is working on my OpenSuSE box, but when copied across to my Ubuntu box, is not working. The script reads in from a file.   Hi, I would like to sort elements in a comma-separated list. The elements in the list are structs and I would like the list to be sorted according to one of the fields in the struct. For example, given the following code: L = {struct('obs', [1 2 3 4], 'n', 4), struct('obs', [6 7 5 3], 'n', 2)}; I would want to have a way to sort L by the field 'n'. Matlab's sort function only works on matrices or arrays and on lists of strings (not even lists of numbers). Any ideas on how that may be achieved? Thanks, Micha
