  Unbuntu 10.04 installed from Windows 7 (Wubi filesystme), Now Ubuntu is not booting giving this error. Target filesystem doesn't have /sbin/init. No init fount. Try passing init= bootarg. • Emacs-like keybindings system-wide?

  Is there a way to set Emacs-like keyboard shortcuts (at least the subset mentioned below) for the whole OS? This is possible in some apps such as the terminal, Emacs (go figure :) and additionally through special plugins in some other apps (Eclipse), but I got so used to C-f-ing through text and never having to jump to arrows that I'd like to be able to do this system-wide so that I can do it whenever I'm typing - e.g. searching for songs in Rhythmbox, typing stuff into the dash or the HUD, writing mails in Thunderbird or Gmail... The combos I'm most interested in are: C-f - forward C-b - backwards C-a - home C-e - end C-d - delete C-k - delete line (note for non-emacs users - C means Ctrl)

  Is there a equivalent of this command; yum list kernel-headers --showduplicates on Ubuntu with apt-get, apt-cache etc. The above command lists various versions of the kernel-headers rpm available on F20/RHEL or installations. There were a couple of warnings at "sudo apt-get install linux-headers-generic fglrx-legacy" with update-alternatives. But, at the last step I got "aticonfig: No supported adapters detected". Unity does not start anymore. I only can login to Gnome. How can I get back to a working system?

  Not long ago I started to use Ubuntu. When I was on Windows I used Notepad++. I was very surprised when I found that Notepad++ is only for Windows. So I installed Netbeans. Netbeans is a powerful IDE and in general I like it, except default styles. Maybe are there style profiles (i.e. plugins or other forms)? It would be good if there is a style profile completely identical to Notepad++. I will be very thankful if you would help me to find what I'm looking for.

• juju: How do I list all the relation variables and debug them interactively?

  I'm writing a charm that requires a mysql database, I found from looking at other charms that this (below) is how I get the info about the database: user=`relation-get user` password=`relation-get password` mysqlhost=`relation-get private-address` But I just found that from reading the wordpress charm example, is there a way to show all the relation variables that I can use? Also, while debugging my db-relation-changed script, I wanted to ssh into my host and interactively run those commands, for example relation-get user, but it didn't work. I resorted to having to restart everything and use juju log to print them out. This wasted a lot of time. Is there a way to print out these relations, either from my dev box or from the instance running my charm? • Has anyone used Genetify for A/B testing

  I'm working on a small project that will likely run on Wordpress, I always like to run some split testing to improve conversion rates for various goals. Typically if its a small site that I either don't have a budget for or want to keep it as inexpensive as possible I use Google Website Optimizer if I do have a budget I go with Visual Website Optimizer both are great and affordable, but for fun I was checking out alternatives and found Genetify which is an open source project and has some neat features. In searching around I don't see many people talking about it and wondered if anyone here has used it. If so what do you think about it?

  I am taking part in the development of a PHP CMS (yeah I know you are like, meeh). It is currently using simple tags for tagging content. What I want to do is push the whole thing to using Taxonomy but I am not sure on what to pay attention to, or how to go about structuring the whole vocabularies/terms. I'd love to be able to keep the user interaction close to that of the current simple tags and at the same time allow for more advanced usage by power users. The Drupal and the Wordpress taxonomy systems are being reviewed at the moment and they provide valuable resources. Nevertheless, it could be that someone has some simpler and more appropriate thoughts on this matter.

  I have recently upgraded from ubuntu 12.04 LTS to 12.10 (x64). I used to have transparent window tittle bar using gconf-editor -> apps -> gwd. But in 12.10 editing the value isn't doing nothing. Also in ccsm many plugins such as: opacity, brightness, saturation, desktop cube and rotate cube are all gone. I love that transparent look very much and I want to get it back in 12.10. I'm using Nvidia 7200GS ; AMD Athlon 7750 ; 3GB Ram. Is there any way to get it working?

• Can I extend my total RAM by buying more, and what kind do I need to buy

  I currently have 4 GB total RAM and I would like to get some more, to bring it to a total of 8 GB. Is it possible to simply buy another 4 GB and bring it to 8? If so, what kind should I be buying? There is a lot of different possibilities, DDR3, DDR2, clock speed, etc. I am kind of lost among all this. My current setup goes like this: ACER EG43M mainboard Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q8200 @ 2.33GHz 4 total RAM slots, 2 occupied by 2 GB sticks According to CPU-Z, my memory type is DDR3 (not sure how reliable that is) Full CPU-Z dump Windows 7 64-bit So basically, I want to know whether it's possible to extend my current RAM to get 8 GB total by buying another 4, and if so, what kind of RAM do I need? Note that I am not looking for shopping recommendations. I'm worried about the hardware compatibility.

• Hide from google while developing

  I will be building a (wordpress) web site. While I am developing, other team members will be pushing content. I'd like to have it hidden from google while under development. It will be hosted on godaddy. I have thought of not pointing the domain name to it until live and using "preview dns", or buying a static IP during development. Or hosting dev site in a sub-directory ("/dev/") until ready and then moving it up a level. If in the dev directory I'd add htaccess or robots.txt to not crawl. Is any of this a bad idea? Will google penalize for any of this - like search by IP and then associate that with the domain later on? Any better ideas?

• Good book about advanced programming techniques [closed]

  I am looking to a book covering adavnced programming techniques, covering different practical scenarios and describing the different challanges with the relative solutions. As example, which are the best ways to implement a module for buying on a web application with credit card or how to manage responsivenes for the frontend of the web application itself (dealing with cache, optimeze plugins, etc). On the web there are tons of tutorials about these topics, but I am looking for a book where such cases are collected all together and treated by real professionists. If the book would provide some code samples, that would be a plus (especially if C# .NET), but I am more interested in the approach/solution rather than the code details. I could not find any of these cases in the general book about programming, therefore I hope someone might point me in the right direction. EDIT: I have 4 years experience as web developer, mainly with Microsoft (C#, ASP.NET, SQL Server) and client side technologies (jQuery, HTML/CSS).

• Should I be concerned about hAtom tags on my blog?

  I am using a theme that automatically adds hatom-entry, hatom-feed classes on my WordPress blog. I read that such tags/classes should be used for syndicated content. Anyway, then I ran a Rich Snippet Tool, which threw a "HAtomfeed" error. So I removed a "hfeed" div tag. Now, should I be concerned? Can this cause any problems? I still have a couple of these classes (listed below), and I just hope they do not effect my site's ranking. I went to youtube and it said I needed to upgrade Adobe Flash Player and litte window in the to left hand corner came up saying to install plugin needed so I pressed it and then it said no suitable plugins found. So then I Pressed download from Adobe and I just downloded the first thing which was Yum assuming thats the linux version of the plugin I needed. Then I opened the yum download and Archive Manager came up and now I don't know what to do. Help Please

  I am getting a "Package Operations Failed" message at the 95% mark of each download. Details show "Reading database" for each 5 percentage segment until Reading database ... 95%dpkg: unrecoverable fatal error aborting: failed in buffer_read(fd): files list for package `gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly' I have tried to download a number of piece of software (most recently PDF Editor) and am getting the same message at the same point in the download. Is there something wrong with my Ubuntu version, a virus or is it the software being downloaded? Using 10.04 LTS. P.S. Same problem when trying to download updates.

  A few months ago compiz suddenly stopped working. That is, it got to a refreshrate where the redrawing is more than noticeable. It took 5 seconds to redraw a chat window. Ever since I've been using metacity instead, but I've found myself missing some plugins badly. I found the following solution: export __GL_YIELD="NOTHING"; compiz --replace This works fine, everything is fast again with compiz. But how to make sure this variable is always set whenever I run compiz? I'm using standard nVidia drivers, failed to get the open source ones working.

• Google Analytics API data for goals (funnels) doesn't match - how do they reconcile?

  I have a Google Analytics account with a well-functioning funnel made up of 4 goals. I can query the API and get the data out, but it does not match the funnel report in Analytics. Without getting into specific values, I can give you an example with faked data. Here's how the funnel might look: Shopping Cart 100 > 100 > 20 80 (80%) Address Page 5 > 85 > 25 60 (71%) Payment Page 2 > 62 > 10 52 (84%) Checkout 1 > 53 (49.07% funnel conversion rate) Okay, so you would expect the API to output data something like this: goal1Starts goal1Completions goal1Abandons 100 80 20 goal2Starts goal2Completions goal2Abandons 85 60 25 goal3Starts goal3Completions goal3Abandons 62 52 10 goal4Starts goal4Completions goal4Abandons 53 53 0 Instead, it's different. Firstly, the abandons are associated with the following goal (so goal1 always has 0 abandons and goal4 always has 0 abandons. Okay, I can work with that. What's confusing is that the numbers are always a little different. The goal1Completions always match the report, as do the goal4Completions, but everything else is off by a small amount. Sometimes it's only 2 visits, other times it's off by 50. For the report above here's the kind of results I would tend to get: goal1Starts goal1Completions goal1Abandons 100 100 0 goal2Starts goal2Completions goal2Abandons 105 84 21 goal3Starts goal3Completions goal3Abandons 90 65 25 goal4Starts goal4Completions goal4Abandons 58 53 5 Here's what I know: Goal(n)Completions + Goal(n)Abandons = Goal(n)Starts Goal(n)Starts = Goal(n-1)Completions Goal(n)Starts - Goal(n-1)Completions != reported number entering at that level That third one is particularly disappointing.   I´ve to make an offer to a client who wants me to develope a web-service for him. I have some trouble calculating the pricing - can you help me? Here is a rough outline of the project: It´s a portal on which various artists and entertainers can register and administrate there profile (texts, gallerie, some embedded videos, choose categories and radius of offer, etc). Other user can browse the artists by 3-4 level categories and countries/staats. If someone wants to hire a artists, he can put them in an "shopping-basket" and can mail everyone in his basket. The Artists can answer them with a form on the website (he doesn't get the email of the other person). Users should be able to comment/rate the artists. But if an artists wants this comments/ratings visible on his profile he must pay, and after that, the admin of the site must activate this comments/ratings. So, no more information given, what would you charge (ca.)? Edit: It´ll be developed with php/codeigniter. A .psd design is already there.
