  • Cross platform millisecond timer lasting more than 49 days?

    - by Cetra
Hey guys, I'm going to be developing a small dedicated server in C/C++ that will require uptime of forever. I've been looking into some time functions as millisecond timing is required for calculations. I have 2 problems that I'm facing: Using a 32bit integer to store the number of milliseconds since the operation began will wrap around at about the 49 days mark resetting to zero. There doesn't seem to be any standard system calls for getting elapsed milliseconds that are platform independant What should I do to resolve both these issues?

  • Continuous Integration of Git on Windows

    - by Duncan
Hey All, assuming I'm running a small shop (3 devs) and using a Windows 7 machine as a centralised Git and IIS server what is the easiest way to get CI up and running? This must be locally hosted CI (no github, no remote servers). I'm doing C# .Net development with Visual Studio 2008. Any help on getting this running with the minimum of effort and the nicest possible UI would be extremely helpful. Thanks!

  • How to read expected child nodes of a given node from schema in PHP?

    - by MartyIX
I was wondering if there's an implementation of a XML schema reader that for an arbitrary node in XML schema provides list of nodes which are supposed to be present as child nodes of given node, restrictions on nodes and so on. I'm planning to program it for my purposes but I would like to know if it isn't solved somewhere. I really need only a small subset what I described above. Thanks for tips!

  • What's causing this background-image to display "incorrectly" in Opera and Firefox?

    - by Sukasa
I know this is something I'm probably doing wrong, so please don't incinerate me for the thread title. I'm trying to put together a small personal website using HTML 5/CSS3. I've checked with the w3c validator and the site and CSS file fully conform according to the validator (However the validator has a warning attached that it might not be perfect). I'm not sure how to explain it without a picture, so here's a comparison of Chrome/Opera/Firefox: So, you can sorta see how in Chrome the background image is in one non-repeating piece, whereas in Opera/Firefox the image has, oddly, been broken up and placed slightly differently. I'm confident this is due to an error on my part, but I've had no luck at all figuring out why the image is being mangled in Opera and Firefox. Here's the CSS that's relevant to this issue: /* Content Pane */ .content { position: absolute; left: 220px; width: 800px; top: 80px; min-height: 550px; background-color: rgba(8,12,42,0.85); } /* Headers */ .content hgroup { background: url("Header_Flat.png") no-repeat left top; min-height: 38px; padding-left: 28px; text-shadow: 0 0 8px #FFA9FF; color: Black; text-decoration: none; } .content hgroup h1 { display: block; } .content hgroup h3 { display: inline; position: relative; top: -12px; left: 20px; text-shadow: 0 0 6px #AFF9FF; } .content hgroup h4 { display: inline; position: relative; top: -12px; left: 20px; font-size: xx-small; text-shadow: 0 0 6px #AFF9FF; } And the HTML: <hgroup> <h1>New Site!</h1> <h3>Now with Bloom!</h3> <h4> - Posted Tuesday, May 11th 2010</h4> </hgroup> Can anyone see what I'm doing wrong?

  • Calling C# code from Java?

    - by Keith G
Does anyone have a good solution for integrating some C# code into a java application? The code is small, so I could re-write in java, but I would rather reuse the code if possible. Don't repeat yourself, etc. Also, I know I can expose the C# as a web service or whatever, but it has some security/encryption stuff in there, so I would rather keep it tightly integrated if possible. Edit: It's going to be on a server-based app, so "downloading" another runtime is irrelevant.

  • Website Reviewing Application/Interface

    - by Eric Di Bari
I am the technology director at a small nonprofit, and we are in the process of making a new website. We have several proposed mock-ups of different homepage designs, and need to receive input from our board members. Is there an online application/program/framework that will receive and organize user comments? I'm looking for something that will allow commenting while viewing the page, rather than just a message board or wiki.

  • Is Active Directory required for a team using TFS 2010?

    - by Andy
I am new to TFS 2010 and wanted to give it a fair try for a small project with a team of 2-3 remote people. Is it a requirement that all my team users are part of an Active Directory network setup? or can I have my team-members to be loosely coupled and be able to login using username/password?

  • Declare Locally or Globally in Delphi?

    - by lkessler
I have a procedure my program calls tens of thousands of times that uses a generic structure like this: procedure PrintIndiEntry(JumpID: string); type TPeopleIncluded = record IndiPtr: pointer; Relationship: string; end; var PeopleIncluded: TList<TPeopleIncluded>; PI: TPeopleIncluded; begin { PrintIndiEntry } PeopleIncluded := TList<TPeopleIncluded>.Create; { A loop here that determines a small number (up to 100) people to process } while ... do begin PI.IndiPtr := ...; PI.Relationship := ...; PeopleIncluded.Add(PI); end; DoSomeProcess(PeopleIncluded); PeopleIncluded.Clear; PeopleIncluded.Free; end { PrintIndiEntry } Alternatively, I can declare PeopleIncluded globally rather than locally as follows: unit process; interface type TPeopleIncluded = record IndiPtr: pointer; Relationship: string; end; var PeopleIncluded: TList<TPeopleIncluded>; PI: TPeopleIncluded; procedure PrintIndiEntry(JumpID: string); begin { PrintIndiEntry } { A loop here that determines a small number (up to 100) people to process } while ... do begin PI.IndiPtr := ...; PI.Relationship := ...; PeopleIncluded.Add(PI); end; DoSomeProcess(PeopleIncluded); PeopleIncluded.Clear; end { PrintIndiEntry } procedure InitializeProcessing; begin PeopleIncluded := TList<TPeopleIncluded>.Create; end; procedure FinalizeProcessing; begin PeopleIncluded.Free; end; My question is whether in this situation it is better to declare PeopleIncluded globally rather than locally. I know the theory is to define locally whenever possible, but I would like to know if there are any issues to worry about with regards to doing tens of thousands of of "create"s and "free"s? Making them global will do only one create and one free. What is the recommended method to use in this case? If the recommended method is to still define it locally, then I'm wondering if there are any situations where it is better to define globally when defining locally is still an option.

  • What are the elements of a team development suite?

    - by mhempey
For small-to-large teams developing software together, what tools are used to form a comprehensive team development framework? Specifically, I'm looking for a comprehensive list of all the individual functions involved (e.g. source control, bug management, testing tools, project management), not specific product recommendations. I'm also not restricting the list to a particular methodology (e.g. Scrum).

  • What libraries provide cross-platform 3D and P2P support?

    - by uckelman
I'm trying to find a constellation of libraries which, taken together, meet the following requirements: Smooth scaling, rotation, panning (in two dimensions). I'll have a large bitmap (or SVG, in some cases), maybe up to 10000x10000 pixels, which serves as map, with some middling number of small bitmaps (or, again, possibly SVG) that can be dragged around over it. I need to be able to zoom, rotate, and pan this scene; however, the view will always be normal to (i.e., looking head-on at) the large bitmap, so I'm not really using the depth dimension. Peer-to-peer. I'd like for multiple users to be able to connect in order to share one of the scenes mentioned above, preferably peer-to-peer, without much configuration by the user. I'm intending to have a server running for cases where users are unable to connect P2P; I'd like to have the failover happen automatically, or possibly have some way of promoting clients who are capable to be servers themselves. Synchronization. Once a user has started dragging one of the small bitmaps (a piece), no other user should be able to drag that piece until the drag stops. I haven't thought of exactly how to do this---there might be a simple solution, or this kind of synchronization might be something that a library provides. Cross(ish)-platform. I need to be able to run on Linux, Windows, and Mac OS. It would be nice to also be able to run on tablets. Having mostly the same code for all platforms is a plus, but not absolutely necessary. (L)GPL compatible. I'm planning to release under the LGPL or GPL, preferably the latter, so I need libraries which have compatible licenses. I'm not set on any particular language, I'd like to use the library or libraries which make the work easiest, though my preference is to work in at most two languages for the project. (The Model could potentially be in one language and the View in another, so they could talk to each other via some protocol I define, if that would get me a better selection of libraries to use.) Can anyone offer suggestions for what to use?
