• Colored PS1 string

  Clarification: I want __foo to be executed each time the PS1 string is presented in the terminal, not when the PS1 string is constructed (hence its being in quotes). __foo contains logic that examines the current directory, so its execution must be deferred. I'm trying to use different colours in my Bash PS1 string from within a Bash function: LIGHTRED="\033[1;31m" LIGHTGREEN="\033[1;32m" RESET="\033[m" __foo () { # Do some stuff and genereate a string to echo in different colours: echo -n '\['$1'\]firstcolour \['$2'\]secondcolour' } PS1='$(__foo '$LIGHTRED' '$LIGHTGREEN')\['$RESET'\] \$' Essentially I want __foo to generate part of the PS1 in a bunch of different colours. My attempt doesn't seem to work, though; it produces the following output: -bash: 31m: command not found -bash: 32m: command not found \[]firstcolour \[\]secondcolour $ What gives, and how can I fix it?

• C# web service, MySql encoding problem

  I use C# web service to insert, delete and get data from MySql database. The problem is some of the data is in Macedonian (Cyrilic). When I insert directly in the database, it inserts ok. For example: "???" is "???". When I insert throgh the service, it's not. For example: "???" is "???". When I try to get data throug the service, it gets it ok. What's the problem with the inserting? • Accessing Web.config directly in ASP.NET MVC 1

  I'm trying to implement integration testing in my ASP.NET MVC 1.0 solution. The technologies in use are LINQ-to-SQL, NUnit and WatiN. I recently discovered a pattern that will allow me to create a testing version of the database on the fly without modifying the development version of the database. I needed this behavior in order to run my user interface tests in WatiN that may modify the database. The plan is to modify the connection string in the Web.config file, and pass that new connection string to the DataContext constructor. This way, I don't have to add routes or modify my URLs in order to perform the integration testing. I've set up the project so that the test setup can modify the connection string to point to the test database when the tests are running. The connection string is stored in web.config. The problem I'm having is that when I try to run the tests, I get a NullReferenceException when trying to access the HTTPContext. From everything that I have read so far, the HTTPContext is only available within the context of a controller. • Using application roles with DataReader

  I have an application that should use an application role from the database. I'm trying to make this work with queries that are actually run using Subsonic (2). To do this, I created my own DataProvider, which inherits from Subsonic's SqlDataProvider. It overrides the CreateConnection function, and calls sp_appsetrole to set the application role after the connection is created. This part works fine, and I'm able to get data using the application role. The problem comes when I try to unset the application role. I couldn't find any place in the code where my provider is called after the query is done, so I tried to add my own, by changing SubSonic code. The problem is that Subsonic uses a data reader. It loads data from the data reader, and then closes it. If I unset the application role before the data reader is closed, I get an error saying: There is already an open DataReader associated with this Command which must be closed first. If I unset the application role after the data reader is closed, I get an error saying ExecuteNonQuery requires an open and available Connection. The connection's current state is closed. I can't seem to find a way to close the data reader without closing the connection.

• Server returns 500 error only when called by Java client using urlConnection/httpUrlConnection

  Hi - I'm having a very strange problem. I'm trying to call a servlet (JSP) with an HTTP GET and a few parameters (http://mydomain.com/method?param1=test&param2=123). If I call it from the browser or via WGET in a bash session, it works fine. However, when I make the exact same call in a Java client using urlConnection or httpURLConnection, the server returns a 500 error. I've tried everything I have found online including: urlConn.setRequestProperty("Accept-Language", "en-us,en;q=0.5"); Nothing I've tried, however, has worked. Unfortunately, I don't have access to the server I'm calling so I can't see the logs. • C++ Program Flow: Sockets in an Object and the Main Function

  I have a rather tricky problem regarding C++ program flow using sockets. Basically what I have is this: a simple command-line socket server program that listens on a socket and accepts one connection at a time. When that connection is lost it opens up for further connections. That socket communication system is contained in a class. The class is fully capable of receiving the connections and mirroring the data received to the client. However, the class uses UNIX sockets, which are not object-oriented. My problem is that in my main() function, I have one line - the one that creates an instance of that object. The object then initializes and waits. But as soon as a connection is gained, the object's initialization function returns, and when that happens, the program quits. How do I somehow wait until this object is deleted before the program quits? Summary: main() creates instance of object Object listens Connection received Object's initialization function returns main() exits (!) What I want is for main() to somehow delay until that object is finished with what it's doing (aka it will delete itself) before it quits. Any thoughts?

  I have a copy of Windows 7 Professional that I have downloaded from the MSDN e-academy (thanks to my school). Now, the problem is that these license keys are one-use only. If I need to reformat or do a factory reset, what is the best way for me to do so, without invalidating my license and screwing me out of an operating system? Edit: I would also like to know some information on the "restore to factory settings" option in Windows 7 recovery center. Does it do exactly as the name implies and starts you off as if you had just done a fresh install? If I had some kind of nasty trojan or virus, would it be able to survive through the factory reset? The recovery center also has an option for reformatting, though I don't think that it's an actual format - it just backs up your stuff into a Windows.old folder or something like that. Does that require a valid license key?

This is most amazing error that i have ever had, we write 100 CD, in these CDs we got one setup.exe file that autorun. in some of these CDs when I explore the cd the setup.exe file become the command prompt file and give me above error. and when I reset the system and put it in another pc it`s ok. if I reset the first pc the autorun.exe run. so I change it different computer, randomly get this problem. I am sure about the virus, because I checked on different pcs and with fully update definition so someone tell me what happen?

  I have a media server located in a very inconvenient part of my house. Occasionally I will have to reset my router or it will reset itself. The issue is the PC loses connectivity for some reason, and I am forced to walk outside, around the house, into the basement, over a bunch of toys and weights and boxes, to push a button to reboot it. I would love to have it check itself every 5-10 minutes and auto reboot if it is unable to ping a given address/IP. Any ideas how to accomplish this?

• Server responses "bus error" to every command

  I have a linux machine dedicated to MySQL server with a pretty high load. Today I woke up and was terrified to see, that database server is down. I could connect to it via SSH, but it was responding with bus error to each and every command.   I must admit that I feel rather foolish having to ask this. I recently switched ISPs, and the new one gave us a Ubee DVW3201B as our home gateway. I want to change the Administrator username/password from the defaults, but I've been having some difficulty. Every time, after I save the new username and password, I'm prompted to re-authenticate to the administration interface. It fails no matter what I try. I've tried using: New username / New password Default username / New password Default username / Default password None of the above works. This has happened twice now, with my only recourse after failure being to do a reset to factory defaults (press and hold the hard reset button for 10 seconds). Is there something I'm missing?

  I've recently lost my window options, had to somehow manipulate my way to Xchat and ask some people how do I get it back (it was metacity --replace, and after I decided to stop the command and run it in background the X was completely useless so I had to do killall -u user). And that was after the internet connection stopped working for some reason (might've been the ISP) ..The thing is, after using linux a long time, I still get the feeling that on dire situations, I don't know the good tricks (stuff like metacity --replace) I feel like a really need like a "rescue" cheatsheet for things like "how to save the X no matter what without pressing reset" and "how to reset the system to "normal state"" "how to connect to the internet through the command line" "how to monitor what the X is doing" (using ubuntu linux 10.04 btw)

• Question about using an access database as a resource file in Visual Studio.

• Android - BitmapFactory.decodeByteArray - OutOfMemoryError (OOM)

  I have read 100s of article about the OOM problem. Most are in regard to large bitmaps. I am doing a mapping application where we download 256x256 weather overlay tiles. Most are totally transparent and very small. I just got a crash on a bitmap stream that was 442 Bytes long while calling BitmapFactory.decodeByteArray(....). Why would it be trying to create a 23671KB Bitmap and running out of memory?
