• WPF Visual States and the transitions between them

  I'm trying to define many different states in my app (around 7 in my case) and I have defined each one of them with a "Default Transition" of zero seconds, but the animation that accompanies each state goes for 1 second. When I fire up my app I have a button than goes through the states one by one, when I go "State1" - "State2" it looks perfect, but when I tell my app (which should be in State2 now) to go to "State3" it reverts all the objects in my scene back to their base state, and then animates to "State3", why doesnt it go from "State2" to "State3". I was hoping to only define each state's end position without defining a starting position as this would really take a long time to do. Can this be done? Any examples? Cheers, Mark

• Setting WPF image source in code

  I'm trying to set a WPF image's source in code. The image is embedded as a resource in the project. By looking at examples I've come up with the below code. For some reason it doesn't work - the image does not show up. By debugging I can see that the stream contains the image data. So what's wrong? • [iPhone] presentModalViewController not working

  Hi, here's my code: ViewController *vc = [[ViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"TableView" bundle:nil]; [self.navigationController presentModalViewController:vc animated:YES]; //[self setView:[vc view]]; If I call it, nothing happens. However, if I change it to: ViewController *vc = [[ViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"TableView" bundle:nil]; //[self.navigationController presentModalViewController:vc animated:YES]; [self setView:[vc view]]; The view appears just fine (without the transition, of course). What am I doing wrong? Is there anything special you have to take care of when initializing the view controller?   I got a Data Access Layer that's being formed by one DBML in which i just include all object I need. Is it necessary to write more functionality in this dbml or can I just use the dbml as my DAL? I ask this because I am currently writing functionality to, for example, get all Articles from a Table in the Business Logic Layer. So I'm kind of lost now. • How would you adblock using Python?

  I'm slowly building a web browser in PyQt4 and like the speed i'm getting out of it. However, I want to combine easylist.txt with it. I believe adblock uses this to block http requests by the browser. How would you go about it using python/PyQt4? [edit1] Ok. I think i've setup Privoxy. I haven't setup any additional filters and it seems to work. The PyQt4 i've tried to use looks like this self.proxyIP = "127.0.0.1" self.proxyPORT= 8118 proxy = QNetworkProxy() proxy.setType(QNetworkProxy.HttpProxy) proxy.setHostName(self.proxyIP) proxy.setPort(self.proxyPORT) QNetworkProxy.setApplicationProxy(proxy) However, this does absolutely nothing and I cannot make sense of the docs and can not find any examples. [edit2] I've just noticed that i'f I change self.proxyIP to my actual local IP rather than 127.0.0.1 the page doesn't load. So something is happening.

• Accessing protected REST endpoint with JQuery

  I have a site where members login to their account (FormsAuth). I would like to set up a RESTful service that I can access using jQuery. I would like to protect these services using the same FormsAuth. How would a third-party site be able to access these services? They would need to pass in the Principal/Identity to the service, right? I've only seen examples of Basic Authentication (which Twitter uses and jQuery supports). I'm very new to WCT/REST, so not sure how this should be done.

• Loading and storing encryption keys from a config source

  I am writing an application which has an authenticity mechanism, using HMAC-sha1, plus a CBC-blowfish pass over the data for good measure. This requires 2 keys and one ivec. I have looked at Crypto++ but the documentation is very poor (for example the HMAC documentation). So I am going oldschool and use Openssl. Whats the best way to generate and load these keys using library functions and tools ? I don't require a secure-socket therefore a x.509 certificate probably does not make sense, unless, of-course, I am missing something. So, do I need to write my own config file, or is there any infrastructure in openssl for this ? If so, could you direct me to some documentation or examples for this.

• DNS Lookup in ASP / ASP.Net

  I have a Windows server that is intermittently losing the ability to lookup DNS information. I'm trying to get to the root cause of the problem but in the mean time I'd like to be able to monitor whether the server can perform lookups. Basically, it should attempt to lookup some common hostnames and the display 'Success' if the lookups are successful. I see lots of examples of doing this with third party components in ASP but I would prefer to be able to do this with a single ASP / ASP.Net script that would be portable and not require anything additional be installed.

  GUI i am trying to use JSpinner but as you can see from the attached image that it looks bad. i am on windows 7. i was wondering if anyone knows how to make it look good? just for clarity. bad means the edges dont line up and good means the spin control edges line up correctly. thank you.   Hey all, I'm looking for some ANTLR examples, I tried googling a bit but I found certain things which didn't fit my requirments. I found the Mantra project, but it's statically typed and is 'too' big for me at this moment, then I found 'pie' as interpreter, which is dynamically typed, which what I want, but it uses a syntax-directed interpreter. I'm looking for a pretty small language which is dynamically typed and uses AST's if possible. It doesn't need to be advanced, if it would have classes I would already be very happy. • Resize Ext.form.ComboBox to fit its content

  There are quite few solutions on Ext forums, but I wasn’t able to get any of them work. It seems I am missing something minor. I need to resize combobox to fit its content when it’s first created. I do not need to worry about resizing it when content is changing. Is there any working examples using Extjs 3.2? • FFmpeg on iPhone

  Hello, I have downloaded ffmpeg libraries for iPhone and compiled them. My objective is to create a movie file from a series of images using ffmpeg libraries.The amount of documentation for ffmpeg on iphone is very less. I checked an app called iFrameExtractor, which does the opposite of what i want, it extracts frames from a video. On the command line there is a command called ffmpeg -f image2 -i image%d.jpg video.mov This turns a series of images into a video. I actually checked it on my mac and it works fine. What i wanted to know was how do we get the equivalent in iPhone. Or rather which class/api or method to call. There are a couple of examples of apps doing this on iPhone. • How to properly use Gearman with my PHP application?

  For now I just want to use Gearman for background processing. For example, I need to email a recipient that they have a private message waiting for them once the sender submits their message into the DB. I assume I can run the worker/client and server on my primary server but I have no problems offloading some of the tasks to a different web server. Anyways, my question is how do I handle multiple "functions?" Let's say I need a job that handles the email portion and a job to handle image manipulation. Can I have multiple functions in the worker? I've followed a couple of examples I found online but each example only shows one function being initialized. Do I have to start up multiple "workers" to handle multiple functions?

• IIS 7.5 powershell module usage issues

  Has anyone managed to use this module with success, i'm running 32bit Windows 7, where i have opened an administrator shell using run as administrator, i have imported the WebAdministration module and then attempted to use the commands with some issues, have provided two examples here Websites I created a web site with the following command new-website -name testsite -port 80 -hostheader testsite -physicalpath c:\temp Then i attempted to get the sites details using the command get-website -name testsite but it always returns all sites, seems to ignore the -name parameter. Only way i can get the site is using a filter get-website | ? { $_.name -eq 'testsite' } | get-member When i use appcmd it works as expected using the following command C:\> C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\appcmd.exe list site testsite AppPools When i try to list the apppools using the following command dir iis:\apppools i get the following error Get-ChildItem : Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED)) Yet when i use appcmd as follows i get all the apppools as expected without any error C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\appcmd.exe list apppool Has anyone successfully managed to use the WebAdministration module ? • Matrix multiplication in java (RE-POST)

  Apologies for the re-post; the earlier time I'd posted I did not have all the details. My colleague, who quit the firm was a C# programmer, was forced to write Java code that involved (large, dense) matrix multiplication. He's coded his own DataTable class in Java, in order to be able to a) create indexes to sort and join with other DataTables b) do matrix multiplication. The code in its current form is NOT maintainable/extensible. I want to clean up the code, and thought using something like R within Java will help me focus on business logic rather than sorting, joining, matrix multiplication, etc. Plus, I'm very new to the concept of DataTable; I just want to replace the DataTable with 2D arrays, and let R handle the rest. (I currently do not know how to join 2 large datasets in java very efficiently Please let me know what you think. Also, are there any simple examples that I can take a look at?

  I recently became interested in iPhone app development, so I've been looking at online tutorials, and also reading a book, trying out the examples as I go along. I'm getting better, but one of the things I still find quite annoying about the usual development model is that I really have no idea what the SDK is really doing behind the scenes to make the app "work" because Apple protects me from this. For example, when I make connections on interface builder, this presumably corresponds to code being generated somewhere... Where that code is and what it does and how it works are not obvious (to me). So I'm wondering, is it possible to create an iPhone app entirely programmatically? That is, have execution start in some main method, which will then programmatically create any views, register event listeners, etc. And if yes, what are some good resources for something like this?

• Why would I do an inner join on a non-distinct field?

  I just came across a query that does an inner join on a non-distinct field. I've never seen this before and I'm a little confused about this usage. Something like: SELECT distinct all, my, stuff FROM myTable INNER JOIN myOtherTable ON myTable.nonDistinctField = myOtherTable.nonDistinctField (WHERE some filters here...) I'm not quite sure what my question is or how to phrase it, or why exactly this confuses me, but I was wondering if anyone could explain why someone would need to do an inner join on a non-distinct field and then select only distinct values...? Is there ever a legitimate use of an inner join on a non-distinct field? What would be the purpose? And if there's is a legitimate reason for such a query, can you give examples of where it would be used?

• JSON to Persistent Data Store (CoreData, etc.)

  All of the data on my application is pulled through an API via JSON. The nature of a good percentage of this data is that it doesn't change very often. So to go and make JSON requests to get a list of data that doesn't change much didn't seem all that appealing. I'm looking for the most sensible option to have this JSON saved onto the iPhone in some sort of persistent data store. Obviously one plus of persisting the data would be to provide it when the phone can't access the API. I've looked at a few examples of having JSON and CoreData interact, for example, but it seems that they only describe transforming NSManagedObjects into JSON. If I can transform JSON into CoreData, my only problem would be being able to change that data when the data from the API does change. (Or, maybe this is all just silly.)
