  • How do I get started with fog type effects in a first person game?

    Hey guys, I'm currently using JME3 to learn 3d game development in java, and I have run into a situation. I would like to add fog effects to my games, but I don't even know where to start to implement this. I know how to set the camera's far frustum to limit the render distance, but that just simply makes a sharp cutoff. I'd like the fog it up a bit to make it feel more natural. I'm looking for an answer that points me into the correct direction. I'm not looking for specific code snippets or even JME3's engine specifics. I just want to get an idea of how this stuff works in general. Thanks!

    hi, I'm trying to manipulate the speed (and pitch) of a sound while playing. so i played around with iphone sdk's AudioUnit. downloaded iPhoneMultichannelMixerTest and tried to add an AUComponent to the graph (in this case a formatconverter). but i get (pretty soon) following error when building: #import <AudioToolbox/AudioToolbox.h> #import <AudioUnit/AudioUnit.h> ... AUComponentDescription varispeed_desc(kAudioUnitType_FormatConverter, kAudioUnitSubType_Varispeed, kAudioUnitManufacturer_Apple); ^^ error: 'kAudioUnitSubType_Varispeed' was not declared in this scope. any ideas why? the documentation on this topic doesn't help me at all (just api doc isn't very helpful when having no clue about the concept behind). there are no examples on how to wire these effects together and manipulating there properties...so maybe i'm totally wrong, anyway any hint is great. thx for help.

  • Why does my CGI script keep redirecting links to localhost?

    Visit this page http://online-file-sharing.net/tos.html and click one of the bottom footer links. It redirects you to your localhost in the address bar. I have no idea why it does this. When I point my browser directly to the CGI file it works but it brings me to my localhost again. I'm hosting this website on my own server, which is this computer, and using XAMPP if this information helps. I'm also using DynDNS as my nameservers. I hope you can give me some insight.

    Hi, I have inherited a web project that is perl based and I'm attempting to set up a local testing server so changes can be made internally to the project. The server architecture Ubuntu 9.10 php 5.2.10 mysql 5.1.37 perl 5.10.0-24ubuntu4 All the dependent modules and packages are installed such as DateTime.pm, TemplateToolkit.pm but running the application throws the following error message: Can't locate object method "new" via package "Template" (perhaps you forgot to load "Template"?) at ../lib//KPS/TemplateToolkit.pm line 51 The code block that this refers to is: sub new { return Template->new( INCLUDE_PATH => $KPS::Config::templatepath, ABSOLUTE => 1, DEBUG => 1, ); } If anybody is able to shed any light on this or point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.     So I'm using a basic formmail script. Within the script I'm using a redirect variable. The value of the redirect is something like,"http://www.mysite.com/NewOLS_GCUK_EN/bling.aspx?BC=GCUK&IBC=CSEE&SIBC=CSEE" When the redirect action happens however, the url appears in the browser as: http://www.mysite.com/NewOLS_GCUK_EN/bling.aspx?BC=GCUK&amp;IBC=CSEE&amp;SIBC=CSEE you can see the &'s are replaced with "& a m p ;" is there any way to fix this?   • http/html/ajax: show result before site is completely processed

    hi! I am looking for a way to show in a webapp in front of a task a wait-message and after it hide the message. The task is running a longer time. I dont know if it is possible at all. The problem is, so far I can see, that the site will be returned to the users browser AFTER the task is completed because the task is part of the site as a inline code replaces by the webserver interpreter (no matter if php, perl or whatever). The only solution I can imagine is to parallel the task with threads or processes and requery the state with ajax in the website. Any idea to do it less complex? Thanks for help! regards chris

    I want to run some commands using the system() command, I do this way: execute_command_error("trash-put '/home/$filename'"); Where execute_command_error will report if there was an error with whatever system command it ran. I know I could just unlink the file using Perl commands, but I want to delete stuff using trash-put as it's a type of recycling program. My problem is that $filename will sometimes have apostrophes, quotes, and other weird characters in it that mess up the system command or Perl itself.

    Background: I am writing a script for a company that will allow users to create FTP accounts through a web interface. In the background, the script must run a bunch of commands: Add the user to the system (useradd) Open and edit various files mail the user via sendmail and a few other things... I'm basically looking for the most secure way of doing this. I've heard of the setuid method, the sudo method, and of course, running httpd as a priviledged user. There will be sanity checks on the data entered of course before any commands are executed (ie. only alphanumeric characters in usernames) What is the method used by the popular scripts out there (webmin for example), as it must be fairly secure?

  • How can I optimize Apache to use 1GB of RAM on my website? [closed]

    My VPS plan gives me 1GB of RAM burstable to 2GB. Of course I cannot use 2 GB, nor 1 GB, everyday, so I'm planning to optimize the performance of my webserver. The average of hits-per-hour is about 8'000-10'000. This means about 2 connections-per-second. Max hits-per-hour reached until now is about 60'000. That means about 16 connections-per-second. Unluckily my current apache configuration uses too much memory (when there are not connected clients - usually during the night - it uses about 1GB) so I've tried to customize the apache installation to fit to my needs. I'm using Ubuntu, kernel 2.6.18, with apache2-mpm-worker, since I've read it requires less memory, and fcgid ( + PHP).   • Why am I getting domainpark.cgi being called from my website?

    I used to test my site on www.exampleone.com and now I have moved to the real domain www.realdomain.com now and www.exampleone.com is now parked by 1and1 (default). Now when I test to see which requests are made by the www.realdomain.comI see domainpark.cgi and park.js from Sedo Parking also being requested as well as the js that serves the ads by adclicks. How do I get rid of this? It's not on the index page at all, and it's causing a lot of strain and slowing my site down.
