• Global Import/using Aliasing in .NET

  Using import aliasing in a single class, we can reference class library namespaces by assigning our own custom alias like this: ' VB Imports Db = Company.Lib.Data.Objects // C# using Db = Company.Lib.Data.Objects; And then we are able to reference the classes inside of Company.Lib.Data.Objects by using the Db alias that we assigned. Is it possible to do this at the global level so that the alias is applied to the entire solution instead of the given file? Currently, we are working with web applications, so I was hoping we could add something to web.config, but I am also interested in whether or not this is possible with windows forms, console apps, and/or class libraries.

  Following up on Reason for unintuitive UnboundLocalError behaviour (I will assume you've read it). Consider the following Python script: def f(): # a+=1 # 1 aa=a aa+=1 # b+='b' # 2 bb=b bb+='b' c[0]+='c' # 3 c.append('c') cc=c cc.append('c') # 4 a=1 b='b' c=['c'] f() print a print b print c The result of the script is: 1 b ['cc', 'c', 'c'] The commented out lines (marked 1,2) are lines that would through an UnboundLocalError and the SO question I referenced explains why. However, the line marked 3 works! By default, lists are copied by reference in Python, therefore it's understandable that c changes when cc changes. But why should Python allow c to change in the first place, if it didn't allow changes to a and b directly from the method's scope? I don't see how the fact that by default lists are copied by reference in Python should make this design decision inconsistent. What am I missing folks?

  I have used dlopen to load an object and dlsym to get a function pointer to a shared object function. Everything works fine. I have tested it calling then the shared function which (for now) only prints and it works-prints fine in the main program calling it. Now I want to pass two arguments to this function. An int and a char * .Can anyone help me understand how can I pass arguments to a shared function? I have searched in the web but I cannot understand how it works.

  I have an application that is written with the NetBeans Platform 5.5. I'm having trouble consuming a web service. If I create a Java SE application in NetBeans, I can add a web service reference without problem. Since my application is using the NetBeans Platform, many of the menu choices change. So, I cannot figure out how to add a reference to the web service. I've googled this topic a number of ways but haven't found any pages that deal with consuming a service through the platform. They all talk about consuming a service with a Java SE application. Changing the application from the Platform architecture is not an option.

  I am developing a C# VS 2008 website, trying to add a Master file. I created a virtual directory in IIS housing the "Master" folder, containing the Master files. Now how do I reference these files from my website in VS? One problem is I do not know where I need to publish this Master folder to. Other problem is I do not know how to reference this Master file in my aspx Page directive. FYI, this master folder is physically located outside of c:\inetpub\ in a totally separate file location. Is this a problem?

• How to expose information about a running .NET exe?

  I have a .NET exe that I wrote and it has a couple properties that I made public and want to expose. I want to shell this exe (Process.Start()) and then somehow reference this exe and get access to these public properties. These properties expose information about the running exe. I know how to shell to the exe. And I know how to add a reference to the exe from my project that I want to use this object. But how do I get access to the properties of this running exe? I hope I am explaining myself well. If you do know the answer maybe you could just tell me what the standard method is to expose properties of a running exe to another application at run-time. Thanks for any help!

What I want as a result of query is, list (rows) of members, where all references of the member are "collected" in one column.   I have a table generated from some PHP code that lists a SMALL amount of important information for employees. I want to make it so each row, or at least one element in each row can be clicked on so the user will be redirected to ALL of the information (pulled from MySQL database) related to the employee who was clicked on. I am not sure how would be the best way to go about this, but I am open to suggestions. I would like to stick to PHP and/or JavaScript.   I have a WF which will be hosted on WCF . The service Contract will contain a single operation containing two parameters. Parameter1 will be a string and will contain the name of the workflow to invoke and parameter two will contain the input for the invoked Work Flow. All operations will take the same parameter. All the operations will return the same return value. I have created the service implementation and I would like to depending on the value of parameter1 start executing the appropriate workflow and return the value (There can be number of workflow classes say Operation1, Operation2...which will be the passed in as the value in Parameter1). How can I instantiate different workflow classes and pass parameters and get the return values from them which I should then pass back to the calling Client. (Also Should I be using ReceiveActivities in all of my Launchable WorkFlow Classes ? ) Any code samples or pointers would help

  It seems like I might be overlooking something obvious, but I can't figure out how to retrieve the raw (unscaled) dimensions of a bitmap being displayed in an ImageView. For example, if I load a bitmap using Bitmap b = BitmapFactory.decodeResource(...), I can get those dimensions from b.getWidth() and b.getHeight(), and I could pass the bitmap into an ImageView using setImageBitmap(b). But if I have a subclass of ImageView, is there any way to retrieve those dimensions without having to pass them in explicitly? I guess I'm looking for a getImageBitmap() analog of ImageView's setImageBitmap() method, which would retrieve a Bitmap object that I can call getWidth() and getHeight() on. Any other way to retrieve the original dimensions would work too, though.

• Do fields need to be explicitly final to have a "proper" immutable object?

  You often read about immutable objects requiring final fields to be immutable in Java. Is this in fact the case, or is it simply enough to have no public mutability and not actually mutate the state? For example, if you have an immutable object built by the builder pattern, you could do it by having the builder assign the individual fields as it builds, or having the builder hold the fields itself and ultimately return the immutable object by passing the values to its (private) constructor. Having the fields final has the obvious advantage of preventing implementation errors (such as allowing code to retain a reference to the builder and "building" the object multiple times while in fact mutating an existing object), but having the Builder store its data inside the object as it is built would seem to be DRYer. So the question is: Assuming the Builder does not leak the Object early and stops itself from modifying the object once built (say by setting its reference to the object as null) is there actually anything gained (such as improved thread safety) in the "immutability" of the object if the object's fields were made final instead?

Right now we have a PHP script connected to the flex application, that gets user/pass input from the user and checks if there's such user in the AD, and that the password is correct. I don't want to ask for user/pass, but to make the application get the domain username that connected to it, so I could use it (check if the user has access to my application and such). Is there a way to do so?

• Updating the collections of entities with NHibernate the correct way

  A simple question regarding how NHibernate works: I have a parent entity that has a collection of other child entities. Those child entities have a reference to the parent entity they belong to. Now I want to implement an Add method to the parent entity that would add a child to it. Should that Add method only add the child to its new parents collection, or should it also update the parent reference of the child or should it also remove the added entity from its previous parents collection? Do I have to do all these things in that method or will NHibernate do something for me? Thanks.

• Creating a Pop up and setting its view state before it displays

  Hi, I am a beginner developer in Flex, and I have been using viewstates lately. I had a couple of custom popup titlewindow components that are initialized using: PopUpManager.createPopUp(this, ContentCreate, true); They both contain view states already, and are very similar so I wanted to combione them into one popup titlewindow and change view state on initialisation of the popup to either the Create version of the popup or the Update. I thought I was being smart haha, but I realized soon after refactoring my code that, I as far as I know I can't pass parameters to the popup to indicate which state I want, if it is created using the PopUpManager. Does anyone know how to pass parameters to the PopupManager, or create the ContentCreate component(TitleWindow) in mxml or code so I can specify the view state?
