  • How to declare a vector or array of reducer objects in Cilk++?

    - by Jin
    Hi All, I had a problem when I am using Cilk++, an extension to C++ for parallel computing. I found that I can't declare a vector of reducer objects: typedef cilk::reducer_opadd<int> T_reducer; vector<T_reducer> bitmiss_vec; for (int i = 0; i < 24; ++i) { T_reducer r; bitmiss_vec.push_back(r); } However, when I compile the code with Cilk++, it complains at the push_back() line: cilk++ geneAttack.cilk -O1 -g -lcilkutil -o geneAttack   • How can I bind a instance of a custom class to a WPF TreeListView without bugs?

    - by user327104
    First, from : http://blogs.msdn.com/atc_avalon_team/archive/2006/03/01/541206.aspx I get a nice TreeListView. I left the original classes (TreeListView, TreeListItemView, and LevelToIndentConverter) intact, the only code y have Added is on the XAML, here is it: <Style TargetType="{x:Type l:TreeListViewItem}"> .... </ControlTemplate.Triggers> <ControlTemplate.Resources> <HierarchicalDataTemplate DataType="{x:Type local:FileInfo}" ItemsSource="{Binding Childs}"> </HierarchicalDataTemplate> </ControlTemplate.Resources> </ControlTemplate> ... here is my custom class public class FileInfo { private List<FileInfo> childs; public FileInfo() { childs = new List<FileInfo>(); } public bool IsExpanded { get; set; } public bool IsSelected { get; set; } public List<FileInfo> Childs { get { return childs; } set { } } public string FileName { get; set; } public string Size { get; set; } } And before I use my custom class I remove all the items inside the treeListView1: <l:TreeListView> <l:TreeListView.Columns> <GridViewColumn Header="Name" CellTemplate="{StaticResource CellTemplate_Name}" /> <GridViewColumn Header="IsAbstract" DisplayMemberBinding="{Binding IsAbstract}" Width="60" /> <GridViewColumn Header="Namespace" DisplayMemberBinding="{Binding Namespace}" /> </l:TreeListView.Columns> </l:TreeListView> So finaly I add this code to bind a Instance of my class to the TreeListView: private void Window_Loaded(object sender,RoutedEventArgs e) { FileInfo root = new FileInfo() { FileName = "mis hojos", Size="asdf" }; root.Childs.Add(new FileInfo(){FileName="sub", Size="123456" }); treeListView1.Items.Add(root); root.Childs[0].Childs.Add(new FileInfo() { FileName = "asdf" }); root.Childs[0].IsExpanded = true; } So the bug is that the button to expand the elementes dont appear and when a node is expanded by doble click the child nodes dont look like child nodes. • close button only for some tabs in Qt

    - by Costy
    Hello, I am using Qt for an assignment I have for college, and I want to use QTabWidget to display a chat window much like Pidgin's. I want to make the "group chat" tab always open and impossible to close and the rest of the "private channel" tabs closable. QTabWidget's setTabsClosable(bool) is not helping ... any ideas? ty

  • drag to pan on an UserControl

    - by Matías
    Hello, I'm trying to build my own "PictureBox like" control adding some functionalities. For example, I want to be able to pan over a big image by simply clicking and dragging with the mouse. The problem seems to be on my OnMouseMove method. If I use the following code I get the drag speed and precision I want, but of course, when I release the mouse button and try to drag again the image is restored to its original position. using System.Drawing; using System.Windows.Forms; namespace Testing { public partial class ScrollablePictureBox : UserControl { private Image image; private bool centerImage; public Image Image { get { return image; } set { image = value; Invalidate(); } } public bool CenterImage { get { return centerImage; } set { centerImage = value; Invalidate(); } } public ScrollablePictureBox() { InitializeComponent(); SetStyle(ControlStyles.AllPaintingInWmPaint | ControlStyles.OptimizedDoubleBuffer, true); Image = null; AutoScroll = true; AutoScrollMinSize = new Size(0, 0); } private Point clickPosition; private Point scrollPosition; protected override void OnMouseDown(MouseEventArgs e) { base.OnMouseDown(e); clickPosition.X = e.X; clickPosition.Y = e.Y; } protected override void OnMouseMove(MouseEventArgs e) { base.OnMouseMove(e); if (e.Button == MouseButtons.Left) { scrollPosition.X = clickPosition.X - e.X; scrollPosition.Y = clickPosition.Y - e.Y; AutoScrollPosition = scrollPosition; } } protected override void OnPaint(PaintEventArgs e) { base.OnPaint(e); e.Graphics.FillRectangle(new Pen(BackColor).Brush, 0, 0, e.ClipRectangle.Width, e.ClipRectangle.Height); if (Image == null) return; int centeredX = AutoScrollPosition.X; int centeredY = AutoScrollPosition.Y; if (CenterImage) { //Something not relevant } AutoScrollMinSize = new Size(Image.Width, Image.Height); e.Graphics.DrawImage(Image, new RectangleF(centeredX, centeredY, Image.Width, Image.Height)); } } } But if I modify my OnMouseMove method to look like this: protected override void OnMouseMove(MouseEventArgs e) { base.OnMouseMove(e); if (e.Button == MouseButtons.Left) { scrollPosition.X += clickPosition.X - e.X; scrollPosition.Y += clickPosition.Y - e.Y; AutoScrollPosition = scrollPosition; } } ... you will see that the dragging is not smooth as before, and sometimes behaves weird (like with lag or something). What am I doing wrong? I've also tried removing all "base" calls on a desperate movement to solve this issue, haha, but again, it didn't work. Thanks for your time.

  • C# Extend array type to overload operators

    - by Episodex
    I'd like to create my own class extending array of ints. Is that possible? What I need is array of ints that can be added by "+" operator to another array (each element added to each), and compared by "==", so it could (hopefully) be used as a key in dictionary. The thing is I don't want to implement whole IList interface to my new class, but only add those two operators to existing array class. I'm trying to do something like this: class MyArray : Array<int> But it's not working that way obviously ;). Sorry if I'm unclear but I'm searching solution for hours now... UPDATE: I tried something like this: class Zmienne : IEquatable<Zmienne> { public int[] x; public Zmienne(int ilosc) { x = new int[ilosc]; } public override bool Equals(object obj) { if (obj == null || GetType() != obj.GetType()) { return false; } return base.Equals((Zmienne)obj); } public bool Equals(Zmienne drugie) { if (x.Length != drugie.x.Length) return false; else { for (int i = 0; i < x.Length; i++) { if (x[i] != drugie.x[i]) return false; } } return true; } public override int GetHashCode() { int hash = x[0].GetHashCode(); for (int i = 1; i < x.Length; i++) hash = hash ^ x[i].GetHashCode(); return hash; } } Then use it like this: Zmienne tab1 = new Zmienne(2); Zmienne tab2 = new Zmienne(2); tab1.x[0] = 1; tab1.x[1] = 1; tab2.x[0] = 1; tab2.x[1] = 1; if (tab1 == tab2) Console.WriteLine("Works!"); And no effect. I'm not good with interfaces and overriding methods unfortunately :(. As for reason I'm trying to do it. I have some equations like: x1 + x2 = 0.45 x1 + x4 = 0.2 x2 + x4 = 0.11 There are a lot more of them, and I need to for example add first equation to second and search all others to find out if there is any that matches the combination of x'es resulting in that adding. Maybe I'm going in totally wrong direction?

  • How to do a search from a list with non-prefix keywords

    - by aNui
    First of all, sorry if my english or my post got any mistakes. I am programming a program to search the name from the list and I need to find them if the keyword is not in front of the names (that's what I mean non-prefix) e.g. if I my list is the music instruments and I type "guit" to the search textbox. It should find the names "Guitar, Guitarrón, Acoustic Guitar, Bass Guitar, ..." or something like this Longdo Dictionary's search suggestion. here is my simple and stupid algorithm (that's all I can do) const int SEARCHROWLIMIT = 30; private string[] DoSearch(string Input, string[] ListToSearch) { List<string> FoundNames = new List<string>(); int max = 0; bool over = false; for (int k = 0; !over; k++) { foreach (string item in ListToSearch) { max = (max > item.Length) ? max : item.Length; if (k > item.Length) continue; if (k >= max) { over = true; break; } if (!Input.Equals("Search") && item.Substring(k, item.Length - k).StartsWith(Input, StringComparison.OrdinalIgnoreCase)) { bool exist = false; int i = 0; while (!exist && i < FoundNames.Count) { if (item.Equals(FoundNames[i])) { exist = true; break; } i++; } if (!exist && FoundNames.Count < SEARCHROWLIMIT) FoundNames.Add(item); else if (FoundNames.Count >= SEARCHROWLIMIT) over = true; } } } return FoundNames.ToArray(); } I think this algorithm is too slow for a large number of names and after several trial-and-error, I decided to add SEARCHROWLIMIT to breaks the operation And I also think there're some readymade methods that can do that. And another problem is I need to search music instruments by a category like strings, percussions, ... and by the country of origins. So I need to search them with filter by type and country. please help me. P.S. Me and my friends are just student from Thailand and developing the project to compete in Microsoft Imagine Cup 2010 and please become fan on our facebook page [KRATIB][3]. And we're so sorry we don't have much information in English but you can talk to us in English.

  • Class hierarchy problem (with generic's variance!)

    - by devoured elysium
    The problem: class StatesChain : IState, IHasStateList { private TasksChain tasks = new TasksChain(); ... public IList<IState> States { get { return _taskChain.Tasks; } } IList<ITask> IHasTasksCollection.Tasks { get { return _taskChain.Tasks; } <-- ERROR! You can't do this in C#! I want to return an IList<ITask> from an IList<IStates>. } } Assuming the IList returned will be read-only, I know that what I'm trying to achieve is safe (or is it not?). Is there any way I can accomplish what I'm trying? I wouldn't want to try to implement myself the TasksChain algorithm (again!), as it would be error prone and would lead to code duplication. Maybe I could just define an abstract Chain and then implement both TasksChain and StatesChain from there? Or maybe implementing a Chain<T> class? How would you approach this situation? The Details: I have defined an ITask interface: public interface ITask { bool Run(); ITask FailureTask { get; } } and a IState interface that inherits from ITask: public interface IState : ITask { IState FailureState { get; } } I have also defined an IHasTasksList interface: interface IHasTasksList { List<Tasks> Tasks { get; } } and an IHasStatesList: interface IHasTasksList { List<Tasks> States { get; } } Now, I have defined a TasksChain, that is a class that has some code logic that will manipulate a chain of tasks (beware that TasksChain is itself a kind of ITask!): class TasksChain : ITask, IHasTasksList { IList<ITask> tasks = new List<ITask>(); ... public List<ITask> Tasks { get { return _tasks; } } ... } I am implementing a State the following way: public class State : IState { private readonly TaskChain _taskChain = new TaskChain(); public State(Precondition precondition, Execution execution) { _taskChain.Tasks.Add(precondition); _taskChain.Tasks.Add(execution); } public bool Run() { return _taskChain.Run(); } public IState FailureState { get { return (IState)_taskChain.Tasks[0].FailureTask; } } ITask ITask.FailureTask { get { return FailureState; } } } which, as you can see, makes use of explicit interface implementations to "hide" FailureTask and instead show FailureState property. The problem comes from the fact that I also want to define a StatesChain, that inherits both from IState and IHasStateList (and that also imples ITask and IHasTaskList, implemented as explicit interfaces) and I want it to also hide IHasTaskList's Tasks and only show IHasStateList's States. (What is contained in "The problem" section should really be after this, but I thought puting it first would be way more reader friendly). (pff..long text) Thanks!

  • Unlocking a mutex from a different thread (C++)

    - by dan
    I'm using the C++ boost::thread library, which in my case means I'm using pthreads. Officially, a mutex must be unlocked from the same thread which locks it, and I want the effect of being able to lock in one thread and then unlock in another. There are many ways to accomplish this. One possibility would be to write a new mutex class which allows this behavior. For example: class inter_thread_mutex{ bool locked; boost::mutex mx; boost::condition_variable cv; public: void lock(){ boost::unique_lock<boost::mutex> lck(mx); while(locked) cv.wait(lck); locked=true; } void unlock(){ { boost::lock_guard<boost::mutex> lck(mx); if(!locked) error(); locked=false; } cv.notify_one(); } // bool try_lock(); void error(); etc. } I should point out that the above code doesn't guarantee FIFO access, since if one thread calls lock() while another calls unlock(), this first thread may acquire the lock ahead of other threads which are waiting. (Come to think of it, the boost::thread documentation doesn't appear to make any explicit scheduling guarantees for either mutexes or condition variables). But let's just ignore that (and any other bugs) for now. My question is, if I decide to go this route, would I be able to use such a mutex as a model for the boost Lockable concept. For example, would anything go wrong if I use a boost::unique_lock< inter_thread_mutex for RAII-style access, and then pass this lock to boost::condition_variable_any.wait(), etc. On one hand I don't see why not. On the other hand, "I don't see why not" is usually a very bad way of determining whether something will work. The reason I ask is that if it turns out that I have to write wrapper classes for RAII locks and condition variables and whatever else, then I'd rather just find some other way to achieve the same effect.

  • Countdown timer using NSTimer in "0:00" format

    - by Joey Pennacchio
    I have been researching for days on how to do this and nobody has an answer. I am creating an app with 5 timers on the same view. I need to create a timer that counts down from "15:00" (minutes and seconds), and, another that counts down from "2:58" (minutes and seconds). The 15 minute timer should not repeat, but it should stop all other timers when it reaches "00:00." The "2:58" timer should repeat until the "15:00" or "Game Clock" reaches 0. Right now, I have scrapped almost all of my code and I'm working on the "2:58" repeating timer, or "rocketTimer." Does anyone know how to do this? Here is my code: #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> @interface FirstViewController : UIViewController { //Rocket Timer int totalSeconds; bool timerActive; NSTimer *rocketTimer; IBOutlet UILabel *rocketCount; int newTotalSeconds; int totalRocketSeconds; int minutes; int seconds; } - (IBAction)Start; @end and my .m #import "FirstViewController.h" @implementation FirstViewController - (NSString *)timeFormatted:(int)newTotalSeconds { int seconds = totalSeconds % 60; int minutes = (totalSeconds / 60) % 60; return [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%i:%02d"], minutes, seconds; } -(IBAction)Start { newTotalSeconds = 178; //for 2:58 newTotalSeconds = newTotalSeconds-1; rocketCount.text = [self timeFormatted:newTotalSeconds]; if(timerActive == NO){ timerActive = YES; newTotalSeconds = 178; [rocketTimer scheduledTimerWithTimeInterval:1.0 target:self selector:@selector(timerLoop) userInfo:nil repeats:YES]; } else{ timerActive = NO; [rocketTimer invalidate]; rocketTimer = nil; } } -(void)timerLoop:(id)sender { totalSeconds = totalSeconds-1; rocketCount.text = [self timeFormatted:totalSeconds]; } - (void)dealloc { [super dealloc]; [rocketTimer release]; } - (void)didReceiveMemoryWarning { // Releases the view if it doesn't have a superview. [super didReceiveMemoryWarning]; // Release any cached data, images, etc that aren't in use. } - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; // Do any additional setup after loading the view from its nib. timerActive = NO; } - (void)viewDidUnload { [super viewDidUnload]; // Release any retained subviews of the main view. // e.g. self.myOutlet = nil; } - (BOOL)shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)interfaceOrientation { // Return YES for supported orientations return (interfaceOrientation == UIInterfaceOrientationPortrait); } @end

  • Performance of looping over an Unboxed array in Haskell

    - by Joey Adams
    First of all, it's great. However, I came across a situation where my benchmarks turned up weird results. I am new to Haskell, and this is first time I've gotten my hands dirty with mutable arrays and Monads. The code below is based on this example. I wrote a generic monadic for function that takes numbers and a step function rather than a range (like forM_ does). I compared using my generic for function (Loop A) against embedding an equivalent recursive function (Loop B). Having Loop A is noticeably faster than having Loop B. Weirder, having both Loop A and B together is faster than having Loop B by itself (but slightly slower than Loop A by itself). Some possible explanations I can think of for the discrepancies. Note that these are just guesses: Something I haven't learned yet about how Haskell extracts results from monadic functions. Loop B faults the array in a less cache efficient manner than Loop A. Why? I made a dumb mistake; Loop A and Loop B are actually different. Note that in all 3 cases of having either or both Loop A and Loop B, the program produces the same output. Here is the code. I tested it with ghc -O2 for.hs using GHC version 6.10.4 . import Control.Monad import Control.Monad.ST import Data.Array.IArray import Data.Array.MArray import Data.Array.ST import Data.Array.Unboxed for :: (Num a, Ord a, Monad m) => a -> a -> (a -> a) -> (a -> m b) -> m () for start end step f = loop start where loop i | i <= end = do f i loop (step i) | otherwise = return () primesToNA :: Int -> UArray Int Bool primesToNA n = runSTUArray $ do a <- newArray (2,n) True :: ST s (STUArray s Int Bool) let sr = floor . (sqrt::Double->Double) . fromIntegral $ n+1 -- Loop A for 4 n (+ 2) $ \j -> writeArray a j False -- Loop B let f i | i <= n = do writeArray a i False f (i+2) | otherwise = return () in f 4 forM_ [3,5..sr] $ \i -> do si <- readArray a i when si $ forM_ [i*i,i*i+i+i..n] $ \j -> writeArray a j False return a primesTo :: Int -> [Int] primesTo n = [i | (i,p) <- assocs . primesToNA $ n, p] main = print $ primesTo 30000000

  • How to do a search from a list with non-prefix keywords[Solved]

    - by aNui
    The Problem is Solved. Thanks for every answers. First of all, sorry if my english or my post got any mistakes. I am programming a program to search the name from the list and I need to find them even if the keyword is not in front of the names (that's what I mean non-prefix) e.g. if I my list is the music instruments and I type "guit" to the search textbox.

  • iPhone: Problems releasing UIViewController in a multithreaded environment

    - by bart-simpson
    Hi! I have a UIViewController and in that controller, i am fetching an image from a URL source. The image is fetched in a separate thread after which the user-interface is updated on the main thread. This controller is displayed as a page in a UIScrollView parent which is implemented to release controllers that are not in view anymore. When the thread finishes fetching content before the UIViewController is released, everything works fine - but when the user scrolls to another page before the thread finishes, the controller is released and the only handle to the controller is owned by the thread making releaseCount of the controller equals to 1. Now, as soon as the thread drains NSAutoreleasePool, the controller gets releases because the releaseCount becomes 0. At this point, my application crashes and i get the following error message: bool _WebTryThreadLock(bool), 0x4d99c60: Tried to obtain the web lock from a thread other than the main thread or the web thread. This may be a result of calling to UIKit from a secondary thread. Crashing now... The backtrace reveals that the application crashed on the call to [super dealloc] and it makes total sense because the dealloc function must have been triggered by the thread when the pool was drained. My question is, how i can overcome this error and release the controller without leaking memory? One solution that i tried was to call [self retain] before the pool is drained so that retainCount doesn't fall to zero and then using the following code to release controller in the main thread: [self performSelectorOnMainThread:@selector(autorelease) withObject:nil waitUntilDone:NO]; Unfortunately, this did not work out. Below is the function that is executed on a thread: - (void)thread_fetchContent { NSAutoreleasePool *pool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; NSURL *imgURL = [NSURL URLWithString:@"http://www.domain.com/image.png"]; // UIImage *imgHotspot is declared as private - The image is retained // here and released as soon as it is assigned to UIImageView imgHotspot = [[[UIImage alloc] initWithData: [NSData dataWithContentsOfURL: imgURL]] retain]; if ([self retainCount] == 1) { [self retain]; // increment retain count ~ workaround [pool drain]; // drain pool // this doesn't work - i get the same error [self performSelectorOnMainThread:@selector(autorelease) withObject:nil waitUntilDone:NO]; } else { // show fetched image on the main thread - this works fine! [self performSelectorOnMainThread:@selector(showImage) withObject:nil waitUntilDone:NO]; [pool drain]; } } Please help! Thank you in advance.

  • Does Java support default parameter values?

    - by gnavi
    I came across some Java code that had the following structure: public MyParameterizedFunction(String param1, int param2) { this(param1, param2, false); } public MyParameterizedFunction(String param1, int param2, boolean param3) { //use all three parameters here } I know that in C++ I can assign a parameter a default value. For example: void MyParameterizedFunction(String param1, int param2, bool param3=false); Does Java support this kind of syntax? Are there any reasons why this two step syntax is preferable?

  • In Objective C, is there a way to call reference a typdef enum from another class?

    - by Adrian Harris Crowne
    It is my understanding that typedef enums are globally scoped, but if I created an enum outside of the @interface of RandomViewController.h, I can't figure out how to access it from OtherViewController.m. Is there a way to do this? So... "RandomViewController.h" #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> typedef enum { EnumOne, EnumTwo }EnumType; @interface RandomViewController : UIViewController { } and then... "OtherViewController.m" -(void) checkArray{ BOOL inArray = [randomViewController checkArray:(EnumType)EnumOne]; }

  • Any tips on reducing wxWidgets application code size?

    I have written a minimal wxWidgets application: stdafx.h #define wxNO_REGEX_LIB #define wxNO_XML_LIB #define wxNO_NET_LIB #define wxNO_EXPAT_LIB #define wxNO_JPEG_LIB #define wxNO_PNG_LIB #define wxNO_TIFF_LIB #define wxNO_ZLIB_LIB #define wxNO_ADV_LIB #define wxNO_HTML_LIB #define wxNO_GL_LIB #define wxNO_QA_LIB #define wxNO_XRC_LIB #define wxNO_AUI_LIB #define wxNO_PROPGRID_LIB #define wxNO_RIBBON_LIB #define wxNO_RICHTEXT_LIB #define wxNO_MEDIA_LIB #define wxNO_STC_LIB #include <wx/wxprec.h> Minimal.cpp #include "stdafx.h" #include <memory> #include <wx/wx.h> class Minimal : public wxApp { public: virtual bool OnInit(); }; IMPLEMENT_APP(Minimal) DECLARE_APP(Minimal) class MinimalFrame : public wxFrame { DECLARE_EVENT_TABLE() public: MinimalFrame(const wxString& title); void OnQuit(wxCommandEvent& e); void OnAbout(wxCommandEvent& e); }; BEGIN_EVENT_TABLE(MinimalFrame, wxFrame) EVT_MENU(wxID_ABOUT, MinimalFrame::OnAbout) EVT_MENU(wxID_EXIT, MinimalFrame::OnQuit) END_EVENT_TABLE() MinimalFrame::MinimalFrame(const wxString& title) : wxFrame(0, wxID_ANY, title) { std::auto_ptr<wxMenu> fileMenu(new wxMenu); fileMenu->Append(wxID_EXIT, L"E&xit\tAlt-X", L"Terminate the Minimal Example."); std::auto_ptr<wxMenu> helpMenu(new wxMenu); helpMenu->Append(wxID_ABOUT, L"&About\tF1", L"Show the about dialog box."); std::auto_ptr<wxMenuBar> bar(new wxMenuBar); bar->Append(fileMenu.get(), L"&File"); fileMenu.release(); bar->Append(helpMenu.get(), L"&Help"); helpMenu.release(); SetMenuBar(bar.get()); bar.release(); CreateStatusBar(2); SetStatusText(L"Welcome to wxWidgets!"); } void MinimalFrame::OnAbout(wxCommandEvent& e) { wxMessageBox(L"Some text about me!", L"About", wxOK, this); } void MinimalFrame::OnQuit(wxCommandEvent& e) { Close(); } bool Minimal::OnInit() { std::auto_ptr<MinimalFrame> mainFrame( new MinimalFrame(L"Minimal wxWidgets Application")); mainFrame->Show(); mainFrame.release(); return true; } This minimal program weighs in at 2.4MB! (Executable compression drops this to half a MB or so but that's still HUGE!) (I must statically link because this application needs to be single-binary-xcopy-deployed, so both the C runtime and wxWidgets itself are set for static linking) Any tips on cutting this down? (I'm using Microsoft Visual Studio 2010)

    I need to disable the Mouse Clicks, Mouse movement and Keyboard Inputs for a specific windows for a Kiosk application. Is it feasible using .NET ? • How to keep iPhone app out of iPad store?

    - by Eric
    I have an iPhone app that I have started to turn into a universal app, however the process is not complete and I want to release an update to the iPhone version. I know that you can specify device capabilities in the Info.plist file to restrict your app to certain devices, but how can I do this to prevent the unfinished universal version from appearing in the iPad store? Is checking the LSRequiresiPhoneOS BOOL entry (in the Info.plist file) enough? Thanks!

  • what's the way to determine if an Int a perfect square in Haskell?

    - by valya
    I need a simple function is_square :: Int -> Bool which determines if an Int N a perfect square (is there an integer x such that x*x = N). Of course I can just write something like is_square n = sq * sq == n where sq = floor $ sqrt $ (fromIntegral n::Double) but it looks terrible! Maybe there is a common simple way to implement such predicate?

    Hi.... I've an iPad app that supports all orientation... my problem was on the start up of the application. In case of landScapeRight and landScapeLeft and portrait(top home button) the views shows correctly but when the app start in portrait (bottom home button) the views show in landscape mode... I've implemented the - (void) willRotateToInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)toInterfaceOrientation duration:(NSTimeInterval)duration - (BOOL)shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)interfaceOrientation When I change the apps orientation the views shows correctly.

  • Working through exercises in "Cocoa Programming for Mac OS X" - I'm stumped

    - by Zigrivers
    I've been working through the exercises in a book recommended here on stackoverflow, however I've run into a problem and after three days of banging my head on the wall, I think I need some help. I'm working through the "Speakline" exercise where we add a TableView to the interface and the table will display the "voices" that you can choose for the text to speech aspect of the program. I am having two problems that I can't seem to get to the bottom of: I get the following error: * Illegal NSTableView data source (). Must implement numberOfRowsInTableView: and tableView:objectValueForTableColumn:row: The tableView that is supposed to display the voices comes up blank I have a feeling that both of these problems are related. I'm including my interface code here: #import <Cocoa/Cocoa.h> @interface AppController : NSObject <NSSpeechSynthesizerDelegate, NSTableViewDelegate> { IBOutlet NSTextField *textField; NSSpeechSynthesizer *speechSynth; IBOutlet NSButton *stopButton; IBOutlet NSButton *startButton; IBOutlet NSTableView *tableView; NSArray *voiceList; } - (IBAction)sayIt:(id)sender; - (IBAction)stopIt:(id)sender; @end And my implementation code here: #import "AppController.h" @implementation AppController - (id)init { [super init]; //Log to help me understand what is happening NSLog(@"init"); speechSynth = [[NSSpeechSynthesizer alloc] initWithVoice:nil]; [speechSynth setDelegate:self]; voiceList = [[NSSpeechSynthesizer availableVoices] retain]; return self; } - (IBAction)sayIt:(id)sender { NSString *string = [[textField stringValue] stringByTrimmingCharactersInSet:[NSCharacterSet whitespaceCharacterSet]]; //Is the string zero-length? if([string length] == 0) { NSLog(@"String from %@ is a string with a length of %d.", textField, [string length]); [speechSynth startSpeakingString:@"Please enter a phrase first."]; } [speechSynth startSpeakingString:string]; NSLog(@"Started to say: %@", string); [stopButton setEnabled:YES]; [startButton setEnabled:NO]; } - (IBAction)stopIt:(id)sender { NSLog(@"Stopping..."); [speechSynth stopSpeaking]; } - (void) speechSynthesizer:(NSSpeechSynthesizer *)sender didFinishSpeaking:(BOOL)complete { NSLog(@"Complete = %d", complete); [stopButton setEnabled:NO]; [startButton setEnabled:YES]; } - (NSInteger)numberOfRowsInTableView:(NSTableView *)aTableView { return [voiceList count]; } - (id)tableView: (NSTableView *)tv objecValueForTableColumn: (NSTableColumn *)tableColumn row:(NSInteger)row { NSString *v = [voiceList objectAtIndex:row]; NSLog(@"v = %@",v); NSDictionary *dict = [NSSpeechSynthesizer attributesForVoice:v]; return [dict objectForKey:NSVoiceName]; } /* - (BOOL)respondsToSelector:(SEL)aSelector { NSString *methodName = NSStringFromSelector(aSelector); NSLog(@"respondsToSelector: %@", methodName); return [super respondsToSelector:aSelector]; } */ @end Hopefully, you guys can see something obvious that I've missed. Thank you!
