• How are these numbers converted to a readable Date/Time string?

  I have 2 XML files I'm reading - one has a date/time attribute that's readable (ex. May 1, 2010 12:03:14 AM) and the other... not so much (ex. 1272686594492). Both files have the complicated date/time format, but only the newer one has the readable version. I cannot figure out how to make the complicated version readable. Any ideas? I have an ajax-based search that should just trigger the search when actual characters are pressed like a-Z (upper and lowercase), numbers and maybe a questionmark, a dash(hyphen), and an exclamation mark. Also the spacebar should be enabled. Otherwise the ajax search would be triggered as well if the shift-, option, or control-key, is pressed.   The problem is that I want to output Mathematica compatible floating point numbers. The only difference with the standard IOStream or printf output format is that the exponential e is replaced by *^: Standard C/C++ output format: 1.23e-4 Mathematica format: 1.23*^-4 Is there a way to manipulate streams to achieve this effect? My original idea was just to use istringstream and dump it to a string and then replace all the e's. I would also be okay if someone posted code to parse through the bits of the floating point number and output it directly (i.e. a printf("%e") replacement).

  I'd like to get the message number and severity level information from SQL Server upon execution of an erroneous query. For example, when a user attempts to delete a row being referenced by another record, and the cascade relationship is "no action", I'd like the application to be able to check for error message 547 ("The DELETE statement conflicted with the REFERENCE constraint...") and return a user friendly and localized message to the user. When running such a query directly on SQL Server, the following message is printed: Msg 547, Level 16, State 0, Line 1 <Error message...> In an Asp.Net app is this information available in an event handler parameter or elsewhere? Also, I don't suppose anyone knows where I can find a definitive reference of SQL Server message numbers?

I am wondering about the following questions: Is it true that when these peripheral devices are plugged onto the computer, the addresses(port numbers) of their control registers are thus determined by how they are attached to the address bus (i.e. the hard-wiring rules, not any soft things)? Who makes the scheme of the port number assignment? If I was given a naked computer(with no operating system and with many peripheral devices), how could I figure out the port number assignment so I can use them to control peripheral deveices.   At work, we just got a large number exotic cellular devices that need to be programmed. To do this, you plug in a standard home telephone and dial a series of numbers, with pauses between them. To me, this is a task that begs to be automated, and we've got one Linux desktop (a test Asterisk machine) with a modem on it. Does anybody know an easy way to approach this task? I could install Ruby or Python on that desktop. I also know PHP, but I'm not sure how to run it outside of a server setup, and it seems silly to install Apache for this.

  Hi, I'm writing an app in pure C which expects two line at input: first one, which tells how big an array of int will be, and the second, which contains values, separated by space. So, for the following input 5 1 2 3 4 99 I need to create an array containing {1,2,3,4,99} Now, my question is - what is the fastest (yet easy ;)) way to do so?   I need to generate a commutative hash based on three sets of "score" structs. Each score has a "start", an "end" and a "number". Both start and end are usually huge numbers (8-9 digits) but number is just from 1 to 4. I need them to be commutative so the order does not matter. I'm using XOR at the moment but it seems to be giving bad results. Since I'm working with large large datasets, I'd prefer a performance-friendly solution. Any suggestions?   In C# I would create a List then I could add and remove numbers very easily. Does identical functionality exist in Javascript, or do I have to write my own methods to search and remove items using a loop? var NumberList = []; NumberList.Add(17); NumberList.Add(25); NumberList.Remove(17); etc. I know I can use .push to add a number, so I guess it's really how to remove an individual number without using a loop that I'm looking for. edit: of course, if there's no other way then I'll use a loop!:)

  I have a data frame that was sampled from another data frame. As a result, when I print the output of the data frame, I get a jumble of numbers on the left hand side of the data frame. The original data frame was nicely numbered from 1,2,3,4,5, and so on. But my new data frame is numbered 5,15,3,65, etc on the left hand side. Is there a way I can access the row index information for a data frame in R? thank you!

  Is there a way to swap back in (to put back all the memory data that was put into the page file (or swap, whatever you prefer)) memory on a windows PC? On linux, one can easily do this with the swapoff /dev/sdaX, where X is the swap partition. On windows, it seems to ask me to reboot each time.. The reason I'd like to do this, is that, even though swapping out the data to the swap file allows me to play a resource-hungry game fully in physical ram, when I stop the game, all the rest of my programs run slow. This is or course normal; all the programs were pushed into the page file because my RAM was too small, and all memory access to those programs after gaming bumps into hard page faults, with major delays and some frustration as a consequence. However, that frustration could easily be avoided, by simply allowing the PC to copy all data back into the physical memory for a minute or so, and then resume working on a fast working PC! (rather than having to endure the slowness -while- working) Thanks in advance for any advice on this! Kind regards

• How can I reconfigure the nvidia proprietary drivers from the command line (ssh)?

  I have a linux HTPC (running XBMC) in my living room. This morning I ssh'ed into the machine and did upgrade it to 10.10. When it finaly resarted it says something about running in low quality graphics and eventually returned to a command line login prompt. I ssh'ed in again and did a sudo reboot now. When it came back on this time the image is rapidly scrolling from the top to the bottom of the screen. I guess the installed driver doesn't quite work with the S-Video port on which the TV is connected. previously it was working right with the nvidia proprietary drivers. How can I install thoses without using the GUI tool that comes with Ubuntu?

• Why can't I connect to my router's config page with Windows 7?

  I've got a Belkin wireless router, and just bought a new Dell computer with Windows 7 pre-installed. I can connect to the Internet and my home network just fine, but when I try to visit my router's configuration page at http://192.168.2.1, I get a "Connection was reset" error. Nothing I do will make the router's configuration page come up in my web browser. More background information: I could always get to the router's config page from my Windows XP machine. I never had any trouble prior to getting this Windows 7 computer. I can ping 192.168.2.1 successfully from my Windows 7 computer. My PC is connected to the router by a physical CAT5 cable, not via wireless. Every device connected to my router, including the new computer, can get to the Internet with no problem. Here are some things that did not solve the problem: I tried turning off IPV6 in Windows. I tried turning off my firewall and antivirus software I tried using https instead of http I tried disabling and then enabling the network connection in Windows I tried reverting my network card driver back to an older version I have tried both Firefox and Internet Explorer web browsers. Has anyone experienced something like this before, and solved it? Thanks a lot for your help!

• Printing special / extended characters on web page - Firefox or printer issue?

  My dad brought this to my attention and I'm looking into it, but thought I'd post here and see if anyone has any ideas... He's running Win7, using Firefox and printing to a wireless connected Brother HL-2170W printer. He's got a web page (http://cornandsoybeandigest.com/inputs/fertilizer/applying-nitrogen-after-planting-0512/index.html) that has extended/special characters in it - the funny "a" in Fernandez. The characters show correctly in Firefox on the page. He printed it, and the extended "a" printed as a diamond with a question mark. He says it shows that way in the print preview, too. I pulled up the same page in Ubuntu, Firefox, and it displayed in my print preview and physically printed everything correctly. I just checked on my wife's Win7 PC in Firefox and the print preview looked correct on her system, too. We have a Brother 2040 here. Soooo, my question is, is this possibly a problem in the browser somehow, or the printer driver? I'm leaning towards the printer driver now, but I can't say I've run into this before. Is it a setting somewhere? I just installed this printer for him the other day, using the CD that came with it; I could try updating the driver from Brother's website I guess. Is there anything else I should look at or check? Thanks!

However, on 1 particular page, the separator shows saying the footnote continues from previous page, but a brand new footnote follows.
